Girl overdoses on espresso coffee



A teenager was taken to hospital after overdosing on espresso coffee.
Jasmine Willis, 17, developed a fever and began hyperventilating after drinking seven double espressos while working at her family's sandwich shop.
The student, of Stanley, County Durham, was taken to the University Hospital of North Durham, where doctors confirmed she had overdosed on caffeine.
She has since made a full recovery and is now warning others about the dangers of excessive coffee drinking.
Ms Willis, who had thought the coffees were single measures, said the effects were so severe that she began laughing and crying for no reason while serving customers at the shop.

She developed a fever and began struggling to breathe after being sent home by her father.
"My nerves were all over the place.
"I was drenched. I was burning up and hyperventilating.
"I was having palpitations, my heart was beating so fast and I thought I was going into shock.
"I did not realise this could happen to you and I only hope other people learn from my mistake."
The teenager, who was allowed home after a few hours of observation, suffered side effects for days afterwards and now says she cannot stand the sight of coffee.
Her father Gary, who runs The Sandwich Bar in Stanley, said: "She did not realise she was drinking double measures. "I have always stressed to my children the importance of moderation but Jasmine got caught out on this occasion."

 

Well I'm in trouble. I do a good 10 cups before I get to work! Then head for the coffee pot.

people have to remember that coffee dehydrates you, so if thats all you drink all day, it'll make you really sick. and wrinkled.

 

I thought that one would make you smile you junkie !

But on the positive, coffe (in resonable amounts) does help cholesterol and has even been known to improve sexual longevity. Excess amounts can cause a decrease in uric acids and can contribute to kidney stone development.

I can proudly say I've gone my whole life thus far without ever drinking even a single cup of coffee. I've taken the odd sip here or there, but overall I find it nasty, bitter stuff. Not to mention the idea of becoming dependent on anything but Leila just pisses me off. Addiction is for the weak-minded.

At one time, I had a cup of coffee in my hand or at hand all day long at work and at home.
I didn't know I was addicted until I went cold turkey to do some blood work. I had severe withdrawal symptoms, something the med profession didn't know of until the astronauts experienced the same before I did.

I could not drink coffee or stand the smell for about 5 yrs. Now I drink an occassional cup but go days at home without making any.

I do get withdrawal symptoms if I drink more than 2 cups of coffee a day and then skip a day. So I try (try) to limit myself to 2 a day. I try so very hard.

 

I'd die without coffee drinks during the day and monsters (energy drinks) to get me going in the morning.

 

At one point in my Naval career my coffee cup would not cool off from the time I got up (5:30AM) until I went to bed (11:00PM). It's not that I was adicted, not any more than I was adicted to air.

That's how I am with diet mountain dew. I poor a huge glass and it gets done on my way to getting another glass

yeah, if I don't drink any at all in the morning, at least a cup, I tend to get a headache...

congrats, unfortunately I am STILL like that with cigarettes, ha ha! and as a matter of fact, the two seem to go hand in hand..

 

Coffee, the fourth most dangerous legal drug.
But, its the one I would not personally outlaw.

As for me, I enjoy the occasional cup of coffee, but I am not much of a morning person, so I don't have time to brew a pot of coffee. Even if I did, it would go to waste because I would only drink one cup...and that would be on the go!

In college I worked at a coffee shop and got really addicted to the foo foo coffee drinks. Which sucks because they are so damned expensive. So every once in a while I'll treat myself to one of those.
