There are millions of people who receive more refund dollars than they have paid in taxes. This means that they are receiving monies that someone else has paid or they are receiving money that has been borrowed in every citizens name.

In the height of the 2007-2008 real estate meltdown, I recall reading that only something like 3% or 4% of all mortgages in the United States were toxic.

I also read at the time that a far higher percentage of homes and land in the U.S. were owned outright. I forget the exact number, so I won't make something up, but I was stunned by the huge percentage of households in the United States that do not have a mortgage at all.

The contrast supports the argument that most of these crises are fueled by socialist poison. In the case of the housing crisis, it was the subprime industry, catering to a small subset of buyers, which in turn grew out of Carter's Community Reinvestment Act and Clinton's bullying of banks with class action suits for redlining.

Government meddling can be found behind far too many of these failures, and the crisis with Social Security is certainly no exception.

If we taxed the entire population at 100% by confiscating all earned income, every last cent of it, and if everyone in the country agreed to it out of patriotism and not a single "evil one percenter" fled, we still wouldn't put a dent in our national debt.

No one advocates taxing the entire population by 100%. Bernie Sanders advocates raising the top tax rate to one percent lower than it was during the Eisenhower administration.

Most Americans enjoyed pay raises every year that beat inflation, but that can be attributed to other reasons.
