This matchup sickens me, because I don't want to vote for Trump.

The one encouraging piece of news I've heard is that Ben Carson finally leads Trump in a poll. It is only one poll. Iowa. But it is something. It is better than nothing. I hope I'll be able to vote for Carson.

But he said that years ago, playing up to a fundamentalist Christian audience. I can forgive it. Same way I can forgive Einstein for being a deist. Many brilliant people believe in God. Faith is irrational. It transcends intelligence. Smart people can be very irrational.

What bugs me is that Carson actually had the stupidity to say it publicly. That tells me he's probably not ready for prime time.

But I'll take him over Hillary Clinton anyday, and I'd rather see President Carson than President Trump, that's for sure.

Over half of Republican voters believe in the literal truth of the Genesis creation story. For many, this is a critical issue. This puts Republican candidates in a bind. I doubt that many of them are sincere creationists. Nevertheless, they need to dodge this issue on the campaign trail.

Ben Carson is a Seventh Day Adventist. This is a Fundamentalist Protestant sect. He may actually believe in creationism, despite the biology he needed to learn prior to and during medical school. If he really is a Creationist, he has a troubling ability to believe anything he wants to believe, and to disbelieve anything he does not want to believe. I want political leaders who have the willingness to examine evidence and to make unpleasant conclusions, if that is what the evidence warrants.

 

I think Carson is a religious wack job.

 

It is one thing to agree with Albert Einstein that the Universe has a Divine Intelligence behind it. It is something quite different to agree with Ben Carson that this Divine Intelligence created the universe less than 7,000 years ago.

Ben Carson has said that he is a Creationist. By definition, that means that he believes in the literal truth of the Genesis creation story, you know, Adam and Eve, and all that.

The Scofield Reference Bible, containing the Old and New Testament of the King James Version gives a date of 4004 BC for the beginning of Genesis, where it says, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth." The Scofield Reference Bible is a favorite for Protestant Fundamentalists. I am sure you can find it for sale in Seventh Day Adventists book stores.

In other words, God created the heaven and the earth in 4004 BC. According to my arithmetic

4,004 + 2,015 = 6,019.

Carson is either a liar, or he is terribly delusional.
