President-elect Donald Trump is abandoning his "drain the swamp" mantra as he builds his administration and prepares to take the oath of office, according to Trump ally and former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

Gingrich, who throughout the campaign and since the election has taken on the role of a Trump ambassador, told NPR in remarks published Wednesday that he noticed the president-elect has shifted away from some of his campaign trail rhetoric.

The "drain the swamp" line – encapsulating Trump's plans to turn official Washington on its head – became a fixture of Trump stump speeches, while "lock her up" – referring to his opponent Hillary Clinton's long-simmering email server problems – was a favorite chant of Trump supporters.

"I'm told he now just disclaims that. He now says it was cute, but he doesn't want to use it anymore," Gingrich said of the "drain the swamp" refrain in the "Morning Edition" interview. "I'd written what I thought was a very cute tweet about 'the alligators are complaining,' and somebody wrote back and said they were tired of hearing this stuff."

Trump also has noticeably backed away from a campaign trail promise to appoint a special prosecutor who, in the hopes of many of his supporters and allies, might produce a criminal indictment against Clinton in connection with her use of a private email server while secretary of state or her work with the Clinton Foundation. Federal prosecutors previously declined to pursue server-related charges against Clinton upon the FBI's recommendation that she not face any.

"I've noticed on a couple of fronts, like people chanting 'lock her up,' that he's in a different role now and maybe he feels that as president, as the next president of the United States, that he should be marginally more dignified than talking about alligators in swamps," Gingrich added. "I personally have, as a sense of humor, like the alligator and swamp language. ... I think it vividly illustrates the problem, because all the people in this city who are the alligators are going to hate the swamp being drained. And there's going to be constant fighting over it.

"But, you know, he is my leader and if he decides to drop the swamp and the alligator, I will drop the swamp and the alligator."

Critics say that, far from moving to rid influence peddlers from the White House's orbit, Trump's first wave of actions as president-elect – filling out his Cabinet and other senior staff positions – has instead done the opposite.

"I can't be bought," Trump said during the campaign. "I won't owe anybody anything."

Yet some Trump and GOP backers are cashing in: With a Cabinet collectively worth $13 billion and counting, the highest ranks of Trump's incoming administration include wealthy donors who helped bankroll his presidential bid.

All told, according to a Washington Post analysis earlier this month, six Trump picks – along with their families – together gave $11.6 million to Trump's campaign, his allied super PACs and the Republican National Committee.

The total includes $7.5 million tied to Linda McMahon, the World Wrestling Entertainment co-founder Trump has tapped to lead the Small Business Administration.

Trump Transition Official Boycotts Israeli Govt Meeting Over Snub Of Far-Right Pol

A representative of President-elect Donald Trump's transition team was among a group of conservative lawmakers and officials from the U.S. and Europe who boycotted a meeting with Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely this week over her decision to exclude a far-right Swedish pol from the briefing, the Times of Israel reported Wednesday. A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry told the Times that the delegation had canceled its briefing with Hotovely (pictured above) because she would not allow the attendance Swedish pol Kristina Winberg, whom the spokesperson described as "a member of a party with neo-Nazi tendencies."

A representative for the group also told the Times that the delegation was boycotting the meeting in protest of Winberg's exclusion.

Becky Norton Dunlop, deputy to the senior adviser on Trump’s transition team for policy and personnel, was among the delegation scheduled to participate in the briefing. She is in Israel for the three-day Jerusalem Leaders Summit, a gathering of conservative politicians and advocates. The meeting with Hotovely in the Knesset was canceled just hours before it was scheduled to begin Wednesday, the Times of Israel said.

“The Swedish representative is a member of a party with neo-Nazi tendencies and therefore the Foreign Ministry decided not to include her in the meeting with Hotovely,” Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon told the Times. “Unfortunately the entire group decided to cancel the meeting.”

Winberg's participation also prompted Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked to cancel a speech at the Jerusalem Leader’s Summit on Tuesday, Nahshon confirmed to the Times. Winberg was excluded from a briefing with Foreign Ministry’s deputy director Jeremy Issacharoff on Tuesday, the Times reported.

Winberg is a member of the European Parliament for the Sweden Democrats, an ultra-nationalist party which has taken hardline anti-immigration views.

Schumer Gives Trump's $1 Trillion Infrastructure Gamble A Big Bear Hug

Incoming Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) said he's on board with Trump's proposal for a massive $1 trillion infrastructure bill, according to a report from Politico.

Schumer might be more aligned with Trump on the infrastructure plan than Republican leaders who have warned against the infrastructure bill's price tag – and appears eager to exploit those tensions.

Schumer made the comments during an interview on Jon Karl's and Rick Klein's "Powerhouse Politics" podcast.

“We think it should be large,” Schumer said according to a write up from Politico. “He’s mentioned a trillion dollars. I told him that sounded good to me.”

The infrastructure bill may be a place where Schumer's and Trump's visions align more than Trump's and his own party's do. HIllary Clinton's proposed infrastructure plan was far less expansive than Trump's.

McConnell told reporters earlier this month that “I hope we avoid a trillion-dollar stimulus.”

Washington is watching Schumer closely to see what deals he may be able to broker with the new president. Schumer said on the podcast he plans to be judicious, but isn't going to be blocking any pieces of legislation just because they are coming from Trump.

“We’re not going to oppose something simply because it has the name Trump on it, but we will certainly not sacrifice our principles just to get something done,” Schumer said.

The headline is accurate. The important thing is Trump's transition and Trump's transition team is obviously trying to ram neo-Nazis down everyone's throat including Israel. So go figure Israel objects to meeting with Nazis.

Comedian Tom Arnold caused quite a stir earlier this week when he talked about tapes he purportedly has of Donald Trump making wildly offensive comments during his tenure as host of The Apprentice — and it seems he’s got Team Trump’s attention.

On Twitter Wednesday, Arnold claimed to have received a voicemail from someone in Trump’s camp threatening him with a defamation suit over his claims that he has tapes of Trump spewing racial slurs and calling his own son a “retard.”

Rather than being intimidated by this threat, however, Arnold welcomed it as an opportunity for the entire country to see how Trump has treated people over the years.

“It’s on!” Arnold said. “Open Apprentice vaults for discovery! Miss Universe too!”

Given how much information such a lawsuit could potentially reveal on the president-elect, it will be interesting to see if his legal team really pursues it against Arnold in the coming months.

he combination of Donald Trump, Twitter and nuclear weapons seems to be enough to send chills down some people’s spine.

President-elect Trump on Thursday tweeted out that he wants to “greatly strengthen and expand” America’s nuclear arsenal, on the grounds that it would make the world “come to its senses” on reducing the number of nuclear weapons it produces.

The timing of Trump’s tweet is interesting because it came after Russia said this week that it was looking to strengthen its own nuclear capabilities to be able to penetrate missile defense shields.

ox News host Neil Cavuto worried on Thursday that Americans would not get to enjoy the fruits of Donald Trump’s economic plans if the new president triggers a nuclear war.

In a tweet on Thursday morning, Trump argued that the “United States must greatly strengthen and expand its nuclear capability until such time that the world comes to its senses regarding nukes.”

The news came at the conclusion of Stuart Varney’s Fox Business show, just as he was preparing to turn the broadcast over to Cavuto.

“I’m thinking this out,” Cavuto explained. “Let’s say we get to Dow 20,000 so we’re all richer for it. But Donald Trump also promises more nukes so we’re all blown up just as we’re counting our money.”

“What? Have you become some kind of leftist all of the sudden?” Varney replied.

“No, I’m just worried,” Cavuto revealed. “You don’t seem to be.”

resident-elect Donald Trump once praised the late Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein for his prowess at killing terrorists — and now Saddam’s daughter is returning the favor with compliments of her own.

CNN reports that Raghad Saddam Hussein has been pleased so far with what she’s seen from the president-elect, who during the campaign trail falsely claimed that he had been against the Iraq War from the very beginning.

“This man has just arrived to the leadership… but from what is apparent, this man has a high level of political sensibility, that is vastly different than the one who preceded him,” she said in an interview with CNN. “He exposed the mistakes of the others, specifically in terms of Iraq, which means he is very aware of the mistakes made in Iraq and what happened to my father.”

Raghad also shared Trump’s view that her father was very tough on terrorists, and said that there’s no way that groups like Islamic State would have been able to set up shop in Iraq if he were still in power.

“Yes, there was brutality, sometimes a lot of it and I can’t support brutality,” she explained. “But Iraq is a country that is difficult to rule and it’s only now that people are realizing it.”
