Syria fires missiles at Israeli jets following airstrikes
Syria fired missiles at Israeli warplanes early Friday after a series of Israeli airstrikes inside Syria — a rare military exchange between the two hostile neighbors that was confirmed by both sides.

The Israeli military said its aircraft struck several targets in Syria and were back in Israeli-controlled airspace when several anti-aircraft missiles were launched from Syria toward the Israeli jets.

Israeli aerial defense systems intercepted one of the missiles, the army said, without elaborating. It would not say whether any other missiles struck Israeli-held territory, but said the safety of Israeli civilians and Israeli aircraft was "not compromised."

The army said the incident set off sirens in Jewish settlement communities in the Jordan Valley, part of the West Bank.

The firing of missiles from Syria toward Israeli aircraft is extremely rare, though Israeli military officials reported a shoulder-fired missile a few months ago.

A Syrian military statement said four Israeli warplanes violated Syrian airspace — flying into Syria through Lebanese territory — and targeted a military position in central Syria.

Damascus said Syrian anti-aircraft systems confronted the planes and claimed one of the jets was shot down in Israeli- controlled territory and that another was hit. The Israeli military denied the allegation and there was no sign that any of the jets had been hit or downed.

The Syrian statement, in line with typical anti-Western rhetoric from Damascus, said the "blatant aggression" was an attempt by Israel to support "terrorist gangs" of the Islamic State group inside Syria and "deflect from the victories" of the Syrian army in the country's civil war, which this week entered its seventh year.

Israeli Channel 10 TV reported that Israel deployed its Arrow defense system for the first time against a real threat and hit an incoming missile, intercepting it before it exploded in Israel.

The station said the Israeli military had been on a mission to destroy a weapons convoy destined for the Lebanese Hezbollah group, which is backed by Iran and fights alongside Syrian government forces.

There was no immediate comment from Hezbollah.

Jordan, which borders both Israel and Syria, said parts of the missiles fell in its rural northern areas, including the Irbid district. The military said the debris was the result of the Israeli interception of missiles fired from Syria toward Israeli positions and bases.

Radwan Otoum, the Irbid governor, told the state news agency Petra that the missile parts caused only minor damage.

A chunk of missile crashed into the courtyard of a home in the community of Inbeh in northern Jordan, about 40 kilometers (25 miles) from the Syrian border.

Umm Bilal al-Khatib, a local resident, said she heard an explosion and initially thought a gas cylinder had exploded. When she went outside she found a small crater and a 3-meter-long (10-foot) cylinder. She said her husband contacted Jordanian authorities, who removed the debris.

The Haaretz daily said the interception took place north of Jerusalem. However, the Arrow is designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles high in the stratosphere, so it remained unclear why the system would have been used in this particular incident.

The Israeli military had no immediate comment on the reports.

The Arrow is part of what Israel calls its "multilayer missile defense" comprised of different systems meant to protect against short and long range threats, including the thousands of missiles possessed by Hezbollah in Lebanon and rockets used by Hamas and other Islamic militant groups in Gaza.

Israel has been largely unaffected by the Syrian civil war raging next door, suffering mostly sporadic incidents of spillover fire that Israel has generally dismissed as tactical errors by Syrian President Bashar Assad's forces. Israel has responded with limited reprisals on Syrian positions in response to the errant fire.

The Syrian conflict, which began in March 2011 as a popular uprising against Assad, eventually descended into a full-blown civil war with Syrian government forces fighting an array of rebel groups. The chaos has allowed al-Qaida's affiliate in Syria and the Islamic State group to expand their reach.

The skies over Syria are now crowded, with Russian and Syrian aircraft backing Assad's forces and a U.S.-led coalition striking Islamic State and al-Qaida targets.

Israel is widely believed to have carried out airstrikes on advanced weapons systems in Syria — including Russian-made anti-aircraft missiles and Iranian-made missiles — as well as Hezbollah positions, but it rarely confirms such operations.

Hezbollah is pledged to Israel's destruction and fought a monthlong war with the Jewish state in 2006.

Rex Tillerson: Military Action Against North Korea Is ‘on the Table’

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson warned Friday that military action against North Korea was "on the table" if the country continued to develop its weapons program.

"If they elevate the threat of their weapons program to a level that we believe requires action then that option is on the table," he told a press conference in South Korea.

"Certainly we do not want for things to get to a military conflict," he added. "But obviously if North Korea takes actions that threaten the South Korean forces or our own forces then that would be met with an appropriate response."

"Let me be very clear — the policy of strategic patience has ended," he added on Friday. "We are exploring a new range of security and diplomatic measures. All options are on the table."

However, he added that "we have many, many steps we can take before we get to" military action and "we hope that that will persuade North Korea to take a different course of action. That's our desire."

That last part pretty much echoed what military dude posted yesterday and it's good to know they are keeping all options open and not shooting from the hip.

"Hey Bill, is that a missile in your pocket or are you glad to see me?"
Nothing says "Monday" quite like the threat of imminent nuclear destruction from a diminutive, family-murdering psychopath. In this case, we're referring to North Korea's Kim Jong-un (also known as the "Pillsbury Dough Boy of Death") who has declared that if a "single bullet is fired" by U.S. forces in Korea, they will nuke us into oblivion.

Even with a famously calm, cautious, and cool-headed President like Donald Trump delicately handling the crisis, it is at least a little bit worrisome to contemplate North Korea's desire to wreak havoc on our nation and the world. Especially since they could quite possibly pull it off, thanks to our old friends Bill and Hillary Clinton.

As you may recall if you don't get all your news from mainstream media, Hillary "That Glass Ceiling Is Thicker Than It Looks" Clinton and her husband raised tens of millions of dollars for their (ahem) "charitable foundation" by peddling State Department access and favors, as well as signing off on highly questionable deals like selling 20% of America's uranium reserves to Russia.

But this was hardly new behavior for the gruesome twosome. Way back in 1996, when the Clintons were actually renting out the Lincoln bedroom for sleazy celebrity romps in return for campaign contributions, Bill struck a controversial deal (again for hefty campaign donations) to let the Loral Corporation sell advanced missile guidance technology to China.

After which, in a spontaneous burst of unbridled capitalism, China sold the technology to the lunatics running North Korea - a terrifying and entirely predictable outcome which the Clintons didn't give a flying damn about as long as their illicit checks cleared. Some things never change.

And are Hillary's supporters outraged over this? They are not - and probably wouldn't be even if they'd heard of this existential nuclear threat and the attendant scandals (which they haven't). Instead, they spent the weekend in breathless distress over reports that climate change could cause mammals to shrink by as much as 15%.

In this nightmarish scenario, horses would become the size of slightly smaller horses, Great Danes would become the size of regular Danes, and the average sociopathic asshole would be exactly the size of Kim Jong-un.

    From the "Loral" link above:

Why Bill Clinton is responsible for North Korea’s Successful Missile Program

    12/14/12

North Korea just successfully tested a three stage rocket that can someday soon be easily converted into a delivery system carrying nuclear weapons capable of reaching the U.S. The person to be congratulated is our favorite former U.S. president from Arkansas. Hows that?

    1) Bill Clinton sold vital satellite guidance technology to China in the late 90′s.

“World Net Daily 7/21/98 Charles Smith “.President Clinton signed a SECOND part to the waiver for Loral’s Globalstar system in July of 1996. The second part of the Clinton waiver was not for satellites to Russia but allowed Loral to sell an encrypted telemetry control ground station to China for the Loral Globalstar satellites.. . ”

“USA Today 5/19/99 “…In 1996, the Administration transferred the licensing authority for exporting satellite technology from the State Department, which had opposed giving new technology to China, to the Commerce Department, which immediately approved the transfer. Given the green light by the Commerce Department, Loral Corporation provided China with missile technology to improve its satellite launch and guidance systems. This same technology can be used to improve the performance of missiles aimed at the United States… ”

    2) Next, China wants to get it’s money back, so they sold the technology to North Korea, their ally. It’s amazing that Mr. Clinton didn’t consider this.
Suspected Sale by China Stirs Concern at White House, New York Times
    “By MARK LANDLER
    Published: April 20, 2012
WASHINGTON — The Obama administration says it believes that a Chinese manufacturer sold North Korea<
the chassis and other parts for a missile-transport vehicle displayed in a military parade this week,a senior official said Friday, raising new concerns about China’s ability to enforce a ban on military sales
    to North Korea.. . ”

    3) Now that North Korea has proven the technology successful, they will sell the technology to Iran.

    4) Why did this happen?
“The Union Leader 4/23/99 Richard Lessner “…The link between the Clinton-Gore campaign and Red China’s military intelligence chief, however, may only be the tip of the illegal contribution iceberg. Millions in Asian money flowed into the Clinton-Gore campaign and the Democratic Party from sources connected to Beijing. The money trail suggests that the Communists used various corporations and business figures as cut-outs to conceal . . .”

    Nice Job Bill!

    Clinton Defends China Satellite Waiver

    5/22/1998

President Bill Clinton on Friday defended a controversial satellite deal with China, even as White House officials delivered documents to the House International Relations Committee about the arrangement.

The president said the deal to launch U.S. satellites on rockets owned by other nations was "correct" and "based on what I thought was in the national interest and supportive of our national security."

    NY Times:

Clinton Approves Technology Transfer to China

    5/11/1999

The Clinton Administration notified Congress today that it had approved the export of technology to China to permit the launching of a communications satellite aboard a Chinese rocket next month.

    ChinaGate

At the center of the 1996 United States campaign finance controversy was an alleged effort by the People’s Republic of China to influence domestic American politics during the 1996 federal elections.

Technology companies allegedly made donations of millions of dollars to various Democratic Party entities, including President Bill Clinton’s 1996 re-election campaign, in return for seats on taxpayer-funded trade missions and permission to sell high-tech secrets to China.

The U.S. Senate report about the 1996 fund-raising investigation noted that American exports to China grew from $3 billion in 1980 to $38 billion in 1994. Between 1991 and 1996, United States exports to mainland China increased by 90.5 percent, and the United States designated the PRC as one of the top ten “Big Emerging Markets” offering the largest potential for United States goods in future years.

Judicial Watch brought the case on behalf of shareholders of Loral Space & Communications Ltd. claiming they transferred sensitive US missile technology to China in the 1990s. The CEO Bernard Schwartz gave $1.5 million to various Democratic Party entities including Bill Clinton’s 1996 reelection campaign.

At the same time Schwartz and Loral convinced the Clinton Administration to transfer technology export licensing authority from the State Department to the more politically-influenced Commerce Department. Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown (later killed in a plane crash), and at Hillary’s instruction then reportedly sold seats on department trade missions to China.

Schwartz and Loral then obtained licenses from the Commerce Department that were needed to launch Loral-manufactured communications satellites into orbit from China.

'Matter of time' before IS leader Baghdadi killed: Tillerson
By AFP | Published: 22nd March

WASHINGTON: Secretary of State Rex Tillerson declared Wednesday that Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi's death is imminent, as US-backed forces close in on the jihadists in Syria and Iraq.

"Nearly all of Abu Bakr Baghdadi's deputies are now dead, including the mastermind behind the attacks in Brussels, Paris and elsewhere," Tillerson told a coalition meeting in Washington.

"It is only a matter of time before Baghdadi himself meets this same fate," he promised, as he opened discussions between the 69 members of the US-led military coalition and their Iraqi ally.

Earlier this month, a US defense official told reporters that Baghdadi, the elusive leader of the Islamic State group's so-called "caliphate" had fled the Iraqi city of Mosul.

The northern city has been encircled and partially liberated by US-backed Iraqi forces, amid intense street battles, and officials now think the IS chief is cut off from command.

Now, the US-led coalition hopes to finalize the reconquest of northern Iraq and to turn the screw on the last IS bastion in Syria, its nominal capital in the city of Raqa.

US airlifts Syrian rebels into key Islamic State-held city near Raqqa

WASHINGTON – The U.S. military airlifted hundreds of Syrian fighters into a key area west of Raqqa held by Islamic State group to launch an assault on a strategically vital town and nearby dam, the Pentagon said Wednesday.

The Syrian Arab Coalition fighters aim to seize the town of Tabqa and its dam on the Euphrates River, which would cut the final supply and communications lines that the Islamic State group has from the western region of the country into its de facto capital of Raqqa, said Eric Pahon, a Pentagon spokesman. Tabqa is about 25 miles west of Raqqa along the Euphrates River.

A spokesman for the Operation Inherent Resolve coalition said the overnight troop insertion Wednesday caught Islamic State fighters in the area off guard and the U.S.-backed rebels had already captured several villages in the countryside near Tabqa. The operation to liberate the city, the dam and a military airfield nearby is expected to last several weeks, said Army Col. Joseph E. Scrocca, a Kuwait-based coalition spokesman.

“The fight is raging on and … we are pretty confident the [Syrian Arab Coalition] is going to get this accomplished,” he said.

A United States Marines artillery unit, as well as Army Rangers, have been deployed to Syria to aid in the assault on the de facto capital of the Islamic State group, Raqqa.

The goal of the deployment is to expedite the defeat of the group in a battle that in recent days has been called "difficult and complicated." But the U.S.-led coalition on Thursday insisted attempts to isolate the city held by the extremist group are going "very, very well."

The United States said forces total 400 – this is in addition to the 500 U.S. military personnel already in the country, deployed during the Obama administration. U.S. Air Force Col. John Dorrian, speaking for the coalition, said the additional forces would be working with partners in Syria, the Syrian Democratic Forces and the Syrian Arab Coalition, but would not have a frontline role.

To start I wish all a good weekend as our rotation now enters phase 2 after a nice break back home . The following article is both very extensive and somewhat disturbing however all is not as it may appear on the surface . As I previously stated , if ISIS thinks that using human shields will stop us from doing what is necessary they are still mistaken but here is an example of how things can and do go badly at times . The only portion of the following article that has been confirmed is that the US military acknowledges it but does not endorse the article and are doing an internal investigation .

Pakistan allows General (Retd) Raheel Sharif to lead Saudi-led military alliance

ISLAMABAD: The government of Pakistan has agreed to give a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to former Chief of Army Staff General (Retd) Raheel Sharif to lead a 39-nation alliance of Muslim states led by Saudi Arabia.

The revelation was made by Defence Minister Khawaja Asif in Geo News programme Jirga which will be aired on Sunday at 10:00 PM.

The minister said that official documentation in this regard had not been done but the government had agreed in principle, adding that the government had received a written request from the Saudi government.

Asif added that he had visited Saudi Arabia for Umrah earlier this year, and had also met officials of the Saudi government.

He said that in May the advisory board of defense ministers of member countries will attend a meeting held in this regard, adding that the structure of the alliance had not been decided so far. “When General (Retd) Raheel Sharif joins he will define a structure,” he said.

In January this year the Defence Minister had informed the senate that the former army chief had not asked for an NOC to lead a Saudi led military alliance.

News of the alliance's formation was first reported in December 2015, with reports of Middle Eastern, African and Asian states including Saudi Arabia, Gulf states, Pakistan, Egypt being part of the then 34 nation coalition.

Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Tunisia, Sudan, Malaysia, Egypt, Yemen and other Muslim countries are said to be part of the coalition. The Joint Command Centre, headquarters of the military alliance is located in Riyadh.

The coalition would tackle "the Islamic world's problem with terrorism and will be a partner in the worldwide fight against this scourge" announced Saudi defence minister and deputy crown prince Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud at a press conference in Riyadh in 2015.

US military's latest toy set: Record-breaking laser death star, er, truck
An armored station with enough power to destroy an entire... drone
Lockheed Martin says it is ready to deliver its most powerful laser weapon yet to the US military. This Death-Star-on-wheels can shoot down drones, missiles, and similar stuff, we're told.

The American weapons conglomerate self-funded the building of a 30kW test system and then scaled the design up. The 60kW version is mounted on a heavy expanded mobility tactical truck (HEMTT), which has an onboard generator capable of producing 200kW of power. Lockheed says the new laser is 43 per cent power efficient.

"The inherent scalability of this beam-combined laser system has allowed us to build the first 60kW-class fiber laser for the US Army," said Dr Robert Afzal, senior fellow for laser and sensor systems.

"We have shown that a powerful directed energy laser is now sufficiently light-weight, low-volume and reliable enough to be deployed on tactical vehicles for defensive applications on land, at sea and in the air."

The weapon is a beam-combined fiber laser, meaning different laser modules are fired up and they are combined using fiber optic cable into a single light source. Lockheed says the design is currently capable of generating a 60kW beam, and claims the design can go up to 100kW.

Afzad said the laser is near "diffraction-limited," meaning it is operating close to the limit of being able to focus all of the beam's energy in a single spot. As a laser travel through the atmosphere, the beam becomes more diffuse and needs focusing, and it appears Lockheed is approaching the limits of being able to keep the laser tightly focused over long distances.

Laser weapons are a key technology that militaries around the work want to crack, because they have several key advantages. They operate at the speed of light, are virtually invisible, and – as long as you have electricity – will never run out of ammunition.

That last point is critical. Missiles cost a lot and using them against cheap targets can get very expensive. Earlier this week, General David Perkins told a military conference that a "close ally" of the US had recently shot down a $200 commercial drone using a $3.2m Patriot missile.

"I'm not sure that's a good economic-exchange ratio," Perkins said. "In fact, if I'm the enemy, I'm thinking, 'Hey, I'm just going to get on eBay and buy as many of these $300 quadcopters as I can and expend all the Patriot missiles out there'."

Lockheed has tested the weapon against drones, rockets, and trucks and claims that its tracking system is highly effective and capable of keeping the laser beam steady so that it can heat up the target to destruction. The range isn't specified, but is thought to be one or two miles. Sadly Lockheed doesn't have a shark-mounted version.

"Delivery of this laser represents an important milestone along the path to fielding a practical laser weapon system," said Paula Hartley, general manager of advanced product solutions at Lockheed.

"This milestone could not have been achieved without close partnership between the US Army and Lockheed Martin. We are pleased to be able to deliver this system for their further integration and evaluation."

Seeing Iraqi's simply abandon their post and equipment and tuck tail still haunts me every time we are charged with training the next batch of local fighters here but the vetting process has risen dramatically since our teams arrival here . I would feel much better if someone would simply let us off our leash and go do what needs to be done ourselves .
If it helps there are about a dozen bastards here that will never take credit for anything ever again as far as causing terror to innocent civilians around the world and we didn't use any cruise missiles to make our point ! Officially it is close quarters training and we are happy to give the credit to the locals , you know with the whole no boots on the ground support role policy and all .;)

This is posted out of respect for the fallen and nothing else ... it was on the YT page I was listening to and thought of this thread.
