Your public opinion polls are irrelevant, to say the least.

Constitutionally speaking, only 11 of the listed above are the responsibility of the federal fucking government.

World humanitarianism is not a requirement by the USC.

Education, state issue, not a federal oversight or a fundamental right to oversee as the responsibility of the federal fucking government.

Unemployment, state issue, not a federal oversight or a fundamental right to oversee as the responsibility of the federal fucking government.

Healthcare, private sector, not a federal oversight or a fundamental right to oversee as the responsibility of the federal fucking government.

EPA, another communistic take over of Capitalism, not a federal oversight or a fundamental right to oversee as the responsibility of the federal fucking government.

Combating crime, state issue only, not a federal oversight or a fundamental right to oversee as the responsibility of the federal fucking government.

The list goes on and on...of course.

A central government is not protected under the U.S.C, it is the course of limiting a central government.
    No.

The federal fucking government has coerced the States and limited their own right to maintain their rights....with bribery

This country was not designed for a collective, it was designed to ''promote the individual'', along with the promoting of ''States Rights''

Unfortunately Mr. Lincoln for ever tarnished the notion of states rights .

I don't think much of Mr. Lincoln but for some reason people think that he was a God well I think he was one of the most self serving people that ever lived .

I agree with you about states rights though

National defense is as important as Sovereignty, hand in hand as it were.

Those that are against defense spending usually take the entire world at review and that is incoherent.

The U.S. is a military power, and it will maintain that category at all costs.

It's not the defense spending that is catapulting the national debt, it's the entitlements.

Military cuts are a wet dream for the socialists.

Seceding from the nation is a right, yet when clearer rational minds prevail, they make the argument that they wont be able to succeed and be a successful State..

Maintaining slavery for profit was not a good reason to secede from a nation.

But that's what democrats do...enslave for personal profit

When pressed Mr. Lincoln said that he would not free a single slave unless he thought it would help the union

His emancipation proclamation was one of the most hypocritical documents in human history . It freed not a single slave in Northern controlled territory and even preserve slavery in Kentucky and when Lincoln was challenged on this he said I would like to have God on my side but I need Kentucky.

But it made it impossible politically for Europeans to Acknowledge southern sovereignty.

What a complete ass Lincoln was !

But the truth is that the Civil War was never about slavery but rather about state sovereignty .

North had the military power to force The southern states to stay in the union so it used it in spite of the long political tradition to do otherwise .

I never favored Lincoln as a President.

And yes, the Civil War was precedented upon States Rights, not slavery.

Fortunately, most Americans disagree with you. For years polls have indicated majority support for raising taxes on the rich.

Of course "most Americans" favor progressive tax plans. Because "most Americans" don't fall in the upper crust of income. It's the old "gore his Ox, leave mine alone" thinking.

The new constitution has put at rest, forever, all the agitating questions relating to our peculiar institution -- African slavery as it exists amongst us -- the proper status of the negro in our form of civilization. This was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution...

Our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite idea [than freedom]; its foundations are laid, its corner- stone rests upon the great truth, that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery -- subordination to the superior race -- is his natural and normal condition. If the majority of Americans believed that Indian Americans are useless and should be either expelled or killed would you support this ?

In other words at what point would you disagree with public opinion polls ?

I agree that there is a disparity between the rich and the poor in this country but I also feel that this is due to the poor and the rich manipulating a crazy complicated tax system .

Know that you do not like the flat tax Idea but keep in mind that the rich don't like it either so you and the rich are in complete agreement

Both sides played the game of moral supremacy . Just because the vice President of the confederacy said one thing does not make it any more true than when the president of the union said what he said

The defense of slavery was clearly the motive behind secession.

Until the Civil War became a war to end slavery the Confederacy had the better argument. Nothing in the United States Constitution forbids secession. The Declaration of Independence implies the right to secede.

The United States would be a far better country if Southern whites had grown their own tobacco and cotton, and if slavery and the slave trade had never been permitted.

The US had slavery early in it's history. It took a war, but slavery was ended and the UNITED States prospered without it.
All this blather about the Civil war and what it was about detracts from the central issue; is a flat tax a better than the current 10,000 page tax structure?

You are judging 19th century whites by 21st century standards .

You seem to be stuck in this Notion that the Civil War was fought on the basis of slavery . Lincoln completely capitalized on this notion as well . I am a history major and I can tell you that there were tons of complaints from the south about the lack of federal support for southern infrastructure . They in fact felt abandoned by the north on these issues and they felt what was the point of staying in the union where they were ignored . And you were completely ignoring Lincoln completely allowed slavery in states like Kentucky so there was no moral issue here . It was about a bunch of states that made money for the union that the union had no interest in treating equally . The South had a powerful political argument But they could not possibly have won their independence without international support just as the US could not have won their own revolutionary war without foreign support . Lincoln recognized this and played a very nasty political game with the Europeans with his Emancipation Proclamation . He is also responsible for what would be by today's standards's millions of deaths. So keep calling it a war about slavery but be aware that nearly all historians disagree with you

Abraham Lincoln freed the slaves and reunited the United States. Those achievements were not certain during his first inauguration. By achieving both he proved that he is America's greatest president.

If the Confederacy had survived Negro slavery might still exist. It is unlikely that Southern whites would have voted to free the slaves after fighting a civil war to keep them in bondage.

I cannot imagine Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. giving his "I Have a Dream" speech on the steps of the Jefferson Davis Memorial in the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia.

My regret about the Civil War is that the United States Army did not make better use of the Gatling Gun and the Henry Rifle. Together these would have annihilated the Confederate Army. There would have been few survivors. Southern white women who wanted to get married after the Civil War would have had to choose between the Union veterans who had killed their relatives and sweethearts, or former slaves.

Gen. Sherman hated Southern whites. During his march through Georgia he wrote a letter to his wife saying that he feared his march to the sea would shorten the Civil War. He wrote, "We need to kill another 300,000 Rebels first."

      Huh.
Shooter would have thought there was enough bloodshed during the Civil War even for the Dog.
      Apparently not.

I have some serious doubts about whether slavery would've continued even into the early 20th century because of mechanization .

Lincoln succeeded in uniting the country but At s horrible cost.

Sherman motivated southern whites but he clearly hated Native Americans even more and went on in his military career to kill a very many after the Civil War .

The south never had the capacity financially to become a sovereign nation and would likely have reunited with the north certainly by this time or it would've become perhaps a vassal state to one of the European powers .

What bothers me the most about Lincoln is that he made it very clear that he would not free a single slave if he thought that would reunite the country .

I've already mentioned his view of the state of Kentucky which he allowed to continue to practice slavery .

I maintain that he was a political opportunist but on that we will continue to disagree forever

Sherman was not perfect. I like this quote from him, "The young bloods of the South; sons of planters, lawyers about towns, good billiard players and sportsmen, men who never did any work and never will. War suits them. They are splendid riders, first rate shots and utterly reckless. These men must all be killed or employed by us before we can hope for peace."

After graduating from West Point Sherman was stationed to the South as a lieutenant. That was when he came to hate Southern white men. He saw them as lazy and vicious. Southern white men liked gambling, drinking, chewing tobacco, forcing themselves on black women, and going to whore houses. They thought work was for slaves.

Prior to the Civil War anti slavery agitation was illegal in the South. Uncle Tom's Cabin was not allowed there. Lincoln's name was not on the ballot in Southern states in the 1860 election.

Gen. Sherman won the Civil War. Gen. Grant made the mistake of attacking heavily fortified positions. The military technology of the day favored defense. Grant took too many casualties for any military advantage he gained.

The way to win a war is to attack high benefit targets that are lightly defended. That is what Sherman did. If it was not for Sherman's march to the sea, Grant might have lost the war.
