As the investigations into alleged links between President Donald Trump and Russia during the 2016 presidential election are being conducted in Congress, reports have surfaced that Trump had borrowed money from Moscow during the 2008 financial crisis. The former head of MI6, Richard Dearlove, claimed that the president had borrowed money to boost up his real estate empire that was hit by the financial crisis nine years back, according to the Independent.

Trump had reiterated before taking office that Russia never had "leverage" over him, however, the president has been accused several times of having links to Moscow. And not just Trump, several of his top aides have been said to have alleged links with Moscow, according to reports.

Trump's former national security adviser, Michael Flynn, resigned Feb. 13th, after speculations over his alleged links to Russia. Transcripts of intercepted calls between Flynn and Russian ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyev, as described by U.S. officials to various news publications, reflected that two had discussed sanctions ahead of Trump's inauguration. Flynn was part of the transition team at the time when he had spoken with Kislyev. He had written in his resignation letter that he had misled the vice-president Mike Pence, who had earlier denied that Flynn had discussed any sanctions with Kislyev, the Guardian reported.

Trump's campaign chairman, Paul Manafort, resigned last year in August amid questions over his campaign role and also his extensive lobbying overseas, particularly in Ukraine where he represented pro-Russian interests.

Roger Stone, Trump’s longtime confidant and former campaign advisor, had admitted in March that he had communicated with one of the Kremlin-connected hackers who was behind the Democratic National Committee email breach last year, according to reports. Stone, one of several Trump associates who is under FBI investigation for potential Russian ties, acknowledged in a lengthy statement on March 10 that he communicated with Guccifer 2.0 through Twitter messages last summer.

Asked to list members of his foreign policy team in an interview with the Washington Post, Trump named Carter Page, who worked for seven years as an investment banker at Merill Lynch. Page has been facing questions over his Russia ties since his nomination. During the campaign last year, he denied there was anything suspicious about his visits to Moscow. After the campaign ended, he also denied specific allegations into his meetings with Russian government and business figures, CNN reported.

J.D. Gordon, a former adviser to Trump, had told the Independent last month that he met with the Russian ambassador to the U.S., Sergey Kislyak, five months before the election to discuss how Moscow and Washington could collaborate on tackling Islamist extremism if Trump became president. He said he spoke to Kislyak at the Republican National Convention in July about Trump’s desire to rework on the strategic relationship between the two nations.

Good. Release them. You know that the Democrats can lay their hands on his returns and could arrange to release them. Don't wait for Trump to do it; it's unlikely he ever would. There's no percentage in him releasing them now, it would only give his unsupporters new material to spew about. It doesn't matter what's in his returns, unsupporters would spew.
So, release the damn things and spew on.

Or, just keep on spewing about it. You aren't going to listen to Shooter any more than Trump is going to listen to unsupporters about his tax returns.

Rachel Maddow’s excellent reporting on Trump and Russia is driving Fox News crazy

It is clear Rachel Maddow is scaring Fox News. She is beating them consistently in the ratings and her reach is increasing. Just maybe some Fox News addicts are weaning themselves off the crack.

It is clear that Rachel Maddow is having an impact because of her in-depth reporting. She gives serious print journalists their due. And that is a disturbing proposition for the purveyors of false news and misinformation.

DailyKos' News Corpse wrote an article titled "Rachel Maddow's Brilliant Reporting on Trump and Russia Has Upset the Snowflakes at Fox News" is worth reading. He writes,

For the past several weeks Rachel Maddow has been enjoying record ratings for her MSNBC program. Not only that, in the Key 25-to-54 demographic, Maddow is beating her direct Fox News competition, Tucker Carlson. The surge in viewers can be attributed to the "gift" of endless atrocities and absurdities courtesy of Donald Trump & Company.

As a result of the program's accelerating success, Fox News is exhibiting signs of anxiety and desperation. This week Fox News lashed out to criticize Maddow by featuring an analysis of her coverage published by The Intercept. Fox's headline complained "Report Calls Out Just How Much Time MSNBC's Maddow Spends on Trump & Russia."

Oh my. We certainly can't have that. In addition to beating Fox in the ratings she's bringing attention to the most damaging scandal of the Trump administration. No wonder Fox is worried. It's bad enough to be losing to a liberal network, but they're also failing to protect their boss in the White House. A boss who regards the whole Russia thing as fake news.

The criticism that Maddow is spending too much time on Trump and Russia is ironic. It's exactly that coverage that is propelling her ratings growth. Clearly there is an audience that's thirsty for the truth on this subject. And Maddow is well aware of that. In a recent interview she told the Hollywood Reporter that:

"We've put a lot of effort into the Russia scandal and I don't regret that, and I intend to be as aggressive as I possibly can on that story because here is a scandal that is of transcendent, historic importance and is existentially about whether or not this presidency should exist or whether it is the product of a crime."

The article in The Intercept is actually a well researched and written examination of Maddow's choice of topics. And reasonable readers can agree or disagree with its conclusions. While it does fault her for overdoing the Trump/Russia story, it does so from the perspective that other stories important to progressives were getting short shrift. For example immigration, the Obamacare repeal effort, and Trump's Muslim ban.

It is ironic that Fox News is accusing any network of spending an inordinate amount of time on any story. After-all, they must forget their infatuation with Benghazi, a fake scandal.

The point is there is mounting evidence that members of the Trump's campaign actively colluded with Putin/Russia to sabotage our presidential election. Another point is corruption among members of the Trump campaign that may include money laundering. And the major unanswered question is how deep do Trump's ties to Putin and Russian money goes.

Which is a major reason we need to see Trump's tax returns. And if not all us at least the members of the Senate and House Intelligence Committees need to see them. Which is another thing that is being blocked by the Republicans on those committees.

You suspect money laundering and want to see his tax returns? Please read that over and see if you do not laugh at it yourself.
Do you actually think Trump would include money made from money laundering on his tax returns knowing he has been audited every year for a long time and will be audited for many years in the future.

Publicizing Federal Tax returns are not important...Trump won without publicizing them.

To this day, yes, this day, still no evidence that Trump won the election due to any Russian involvement.

The only mounting evidence that is abound lately, the batshit lunacy form the leftists has gone full blown meltdown.

Well we know Trump is not just a liar. Trump is a pathological liar who lies constantly. But Trump is definitely hiding something in his income taxes. And the kindest theory I've seen is his tax returns would show he is nowhere as rich as the claims he is. Or as some speculate his tax returns would show his connections to Russian money and who owns him. Like some of these guys.

Trump has deep ties to organized crime — federal investigators know it, and the public is catching up

As President Trump discovers the prerogative of unilaterally making war, the media gaze has turned away from the ongoing FBI, House and Senate investigation of his Russia ties to the simpler dramas of cruise missiles, big bombs, and tough but loose talk on North Korea.

Yet even “the mother of all bombs” cannot obliterate the accumulating body of evidence about his relationship with Russian organized crime figures and the not unrelated question about whether he and his entourage colluded with Russian officials in the 2016 presidential election. The story, notes Talking Points Memo’s Josh Marshall, is “Hiding in plain sight.”

The evidence of pre-election collusion between Trump and the Russians, while growing, is far from definitive. The evidence on Trump’s organized crime ties is stronger. Says Marshall:

“If we’d never heard about Russian intelligence hacking of the 2016 election or Carter Page or Paul Manafort or Sergei Kislyak this [Trump’s organized crime connections] would seem like an extraordinarily big deal. And indeed it is an extraordinarily big deal.”

Chronologically speaking, Trump’s ties to organized crime figures came first. Mutually beneficial transactions dating back to the 1990s led to closer relations in the 2000s and culminated in the contacts during the 2016 campaign. It all began with Russians who wanted to get their money out of the country.

Hot Money

As Donald Trump Jr., executive vice president of development and acquisitions for the Trump Organization, told the “Bridging U.S. and Emerging Markets Real Estate” conference in September 2008 (on the basis, he said, of his own “half dozen trips to Russia in 18 months”):

“n terms of high-end product influx into the United States, Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets; say in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo and anywhere in New York. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

For example, David Bogatin: In the 1990s, the FBI considered Bogatin one of the key members of a major Russian organized crime family run by a legendary boss named Semion Mogilevich. According to the late investigative reporter Wayne Barrett, Bogatin owned five separate condos in Trump Tower that Trump had reportedly sold to him personally.

Vyacheslav Ivankov, another Mogilevich lieutenant in the United States during the 1990s, also resided for a time at Trump Tower, and reportedly had in his personal phone book the private telephone and fax numbers for the Trump Organization’s office in that building.

Cyprus

A lot of this Russian organized crime money flowed through Cyprus, and one of its largest banks, the Bank of Cyprus. The bank’s chairman, Wilbur Ross, is now secretary of commerce. When senators considering Ross’ nomination asked about Cyprus, Ross said Trump had forbidden him from answering questions on the subject.

Not coincidentally, Illinois congressman Mike Quigley, a member of the House Intelligence Committee, recently traveled to Cyprus to investigate, according to the Daily Beast.

“The fact that Turkey, the U.S. and Russia and other countries are really interested in Cyprus, because of its strategic location… the fact that Russians launder their money there to avoid sanctions, and the fact that key U.S. and Russia players were there—all make it really important for the Russia investigation,” Quigley explained in an interview.

Cyprus is also a focus of U.S. authorities investigating Trump’s former campaign manager, Paul Manafort, whose curious real estate transactions in New York are drawing attention, according to the WNYC radio station:

“Nine current and former law enforcement and real estate experts told WNYC that Manafort’s deals merit scrutiny. Some said the purchases follow a pattern used by money launderers: buying properties with all cash through shell companies, then using the properties to obtain ‘clean’ money through bank loans.”

According to the Associated Press, the records of Manafort’s Cypriot transactions were requested by the U.S. Treasury Department Financial Crimes Enforcement Network, which works internationally with agencies to track money laundering and the movement of illicit funds around the globe.

Meetings and Plans

Trump White House officials, skittish about such reports, balked when Russian banker Aleksander Torshin was scheduled to meet President Trump in February. Torshin is the deputy governor of the Bank of Russia and a close ally of President Vladimir Putin. He has cultivated Washington conservatives such as Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.) and former National Rifle Association president David Keene.

Torshin has also been targeted by a long-running Spanish police investigation into a Russian organized crime syndicate known as the Taganskaya. The White House canceled Torshin’s meeting with Trump rather than “exacerbate the political controversy over contacts between Trump associates and the Kremlin,” reported Yahoo News’ Mike Isikoff.

Also in February, Trump received a proposed peace plan for Ukraine and Russia, offered by his personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, and two Russians with organized crime convictions: Felix H. Sater, a business associate who once helped Trump scout deals in Russia; and a Ukrainian lawmaker trying to rise in a political opposition movement shaped in part by Manafort. The plan also would have lifted U.S. sanctions on Russia, a prime goal of the Putin government.

Sater pleaded guilty to a role in a stock manipulation scheme decades ago that involved the Mafia. Artemenko spent two and a half years in jail in Kiev in the early 2000s on embezzlement charges, later dropped, which he said had been politically motivated.

Big Picture

The sheer proliferation of such contact indicates, at a minimum, that Russian organized crime figures felt comfortable in the Trump milieu.

Jonathan Winer, former deputy assistant secretary of state for law enforcement in the Clinton administration, says that he was investigating Semion Mogilevich 20 years ago when “the brainy don” (as he was known) pioneered the laundering criminal proceeds through quasi-legitimate companies in the United States, especially in high-end real estate.

Winer finds it “disturbing” that Mogilevich’s associates have done business with Trump. He told a Washington conference earlier this month:

“Imagine you’re a foreign government and you want to launder money for domestic espionage operations in the United States. [High-end real estate] would be a great way to do it. It was the method used by Colombian drug traffickers all over Latin America and Miami in the 1980s and 1990s. It’s a form that Russian organized crime has used… All of a sudden we’re starting to see the same kind of patterns involving some criminal people and some Russian officials showing up in current investigations with Trump properties.”

The story right now, he says, is “confusing as hell.” The key, he explains, is the pattern:

“These ties link up, coalesce, organize and resolve,” Winer says. These are “relationships that make some sense. So we need to get below what we can see on the surface and see what actually happened. … I don’t know who’s going to be indicted, but boy, do I know this: the American people needs to be to get the facts, and then justice can be done.”

Majority of Voters Want President Trump to Release His Tax Returns

The majority of American voters still want President Donald Trump to release his tax returns — but less so than before he was elected.

A new Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll found 53% of voters say Trump should be forced to release his tax returns, and 51% say Trump’s taxes are either very or somewhat important to them. Additionally, 45% say Trump’s taxes are relevant to his job in the White House.

The Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll surveyed 2,353 registered voters over a two-day period in early April.

Before the 2016 presidential election, 62% of voters said it was either very or somewhat important that the candidates release their tax returns, according to a Monmouth University poll.

The new data from the poll comes just days before protesters plan to march to demand Trump release his tax returns on April 15, which is historically when Tax Day falls although it has been extended until April 18 this year.

Trump broke decades of precedent by refusing to release his tax returns while he was a presidential candidate. In fact, Trump maintains that no one — aside from reporters — cares about his tax returns.

"I don’t think they care at all," Trump said of Americans' thoughts on his tax returns at a press conference ahead of his inauguration. "The only one that cares about my tax returns are the reporters."

But at least 24 states have introduced bills that would require Trump — and all other future presidential candidates — to release their tax returns in order to be listed on the state's 2020 ballots. And at least 1 million people have signed a petition on the White House’s website to demand Trump “immediately release” his tax returns.

I have been saying for a long time now the dossier put together by the former British spy Christopher Steele has far more credibility then the PR hacks and Trump supporters are willing to admit.

The FBI used a contested dossier alleging ties between Russia and Donald Trump’s campaign in order to convince a judge to grant approval for FISA warrant against former Trump aide Carter Page, CNN reports.

 Sources also told CNN FBI Director James Comey has used the dossier in briefings to members of Congress as a source of information “to bolster [the FBI’s] investigation.”

Officials told CNN the use of parts of the dossier by the FBI means the bureau has corroborated at least some of its contacts. Earlier this month, it was reported the FBI obtained a FISA warrant against Page during the presidential election, meaning they had probably cause to convince a judge he was acting as an agent of a foreign government. Page has denied any wrongdoing.
