And this level of incompetence by a president and his administration on anything is simply unacceptable. But when it involves kids that are going to traumatized for the rest of their lives and some of them mentally, physically, and sexually abused should be criminal. And people who try and make up excuses for it are in fact and in deed deplorable. Especially anyone who claims they were sexually abused themselves.

DHS secretary panics under questioning from Kamala Harris: We do not ‘detain’ children, we ‘care for them’

Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen on Wednesday insisted that her agency does not illegally “detain” immigrant and refugee children, but she said it does “care for them” in facilities where they are not allowed to leave.

At a Senate hearing on Thursday, Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) suggested that DHS had violated federal statutes by detaining children longer than is legally allowed.

“You [testified] that your agency does not detain children,” Harris noted. “However, it appears that there is some conflict between your understanding and what the [Inspector General] reported in September of 2018.”

“There was a finding that [Customs and Border Patrol] held children for an extended period of time in facilities solely for short-term detention,” the senator continued, “despite assertions from you that children were being transferred to [Health and Human Services] within 72 hours as is statutorily required.”

Harris said that in several cases children were held in CBP custody for at least 25 days.

“How do you reconcile the testimony you’ve provided this committee with the report from the IG?” Harris asked.

Nielsen argued that housing children for dozens of days is not the same as detaining them.

“What you’re talking about is an unaccompanied child,” Nielsen opined.

“But, Secretary, I just have a minute left,” Harris interrupted. “You testified that you don’t detain children. The IG report indicates that CBP — I’m not finished — the IG report indicates that CBP has detained children. And not only has CBP detained children, they have detained them for longer than is statutorily allowed.”

“How do you reconcile the IG report with your testimony this morning?” Harris pressed.

“We do not detain children,” Nielsen insisted. “What we do is, when we apprehend them at a border patrol station, we process them. And as soon as there is room in an HHS facility, we transfer them.”

“So does the processing involve detention?” Harris wondered.

“It’s not a detention facility!” Nielsen exclaimed.

“Do they stay in CPB custody? Do they spend the night there?” the California senator tried again, appearing annoyed.

“We are not able to, under the law, put them anywhere else,” Nielsen replied. “So, we will care for them until bed space opens at a detention facility at HHS.”

“In other words, you do detain children,” Harris remarked.

“In other words, we do not have enough detention facilities at HHS because 10,000 children were sent here unaccompanied and their parents chose to do that,” Nielsen insisted.

The Trump administration resorted to child snatching to try and deter people from coming here seeking asylum which is actually illegal itself under US laws. But they also resorted to something as drastic and dangerous as separating children from their parents with no fucking plan beyond that. They just said grab the kids with no idea what to do with them afterwards. And that ought to be criminal. But at the very least it is really and truly deplorable. And so are the people who support it.

U.S. is violating human rights, lying about how asylum seekers are treated at border, per new report
Seeking asylum should not be a crime.

Under orders by the Trump administration, thousands of asylum seekers fleeing dangerous living situations are being arbitrarily detained, forced to return to their country of origin, and separated from their children. According to a scathing new report from Amnesty International, these actions by the U.S. government violate human rights.

The U.S. is prohibited from sending asylum seekers back to countries or territories where their lives or freedom would be threatened, either directly or indirectly, yet that is exactly the policy of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Seeking asylum is not a crime, yet the Trump administration continues to treat those who arrive at ports of entry in search of a better life as if they were criminals.

For the report, Amnesty International interviewed dozens of asylum seekers and immigration officials and concluded that the administration deliberately adopted this policy in order to deter immigration to the U.S.

Over the summer, both Attorney General Jeff Sessions and DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen repeatedly insisted that asylum seekers who entered through designated ports of entry at the border would not be arrested.

“We do have a policy of prosecuting adults who flout our laws to come here illegally instead of waiting their turn, claiming asylum at ports of entry. They can go to our ports of entry if they want to claim asylum and they won’t be arrested,” Sessions said in June. “We cannot and will not encourage people to bring their children or other children to the country unlawfully by giving them immunity in the process.”

This report directly contradicts those statements. In fact, the report found that DHS implemented a de-facto policy of turning away of asylum-seekers along the entire U.S.-Mexico border, including at designated ports of entry, a policy that Nielsen herself admitted exists. She labeled it the “metering” of asylum claims.

We are ‘metering’, which means that if we don’t have the resources to let them [asylum-seekers] in on a particular day, they are going to have to come back. They will have to wait their turn and we will process them as we can, but that’s the way that the law works. Once they come into the United States, we process them. We have asked Congress to fix this loophole. It’s a huge gaping loophole that we need to fix because it is so abused.

Turning away asylum seekers, even if they’re told to come back later, violates a basic principal of international human rights law: the prohibition of “refoulment,” forcing people to return to a place where they might be at risk of serious human rights violations.

Some asylum seekers travel hundreds or even thousands of miles to reach a port of entry, and have nowhere to go if turned away at the border, forcing them to sleep in line for days or weeks.

According to the report, in late December 2017, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) turned away dozens of asylum seekers at the San Ysidro port of entry. When 24 asylum seekers decided to sleep in line at a plaza on the Mexico side of the border, Mexican municipal police cleared the area and arrested the remaining asylum seekers.

In addition to being turned away at ports of entry, some asylum seekers were also separated from their children. Amnesty International interviewed 15 individuals who were separated from their children by DHS officials, both before and after the Trump administration’s “zero-tolerance” policy went into effect.

While the administration hasn’t yet publicly disclosed how many families were separated as a result of the policy, CBP provided data to Amnesty International in September that detailed approximately 8,000 “family units” were separated — a number far greater than the 3,000 previously estimated.

That the Trump administration would lie about its treatment of asylum seekers isn’t too surprising, considering the entire family separation crisis revolved around one huge lie told by Sec. Nielsen — that the U.S. did not have a policy of separating families at the border.

A recently disclosed memo signed by Nielsen in April 2018 proves there was.

“DHS could also permissibly direct the separation of parents or legal guardians and minors held in immigration detention so that the parent or legal guardian can be prosecuted,” the memo said.

Abrupt release of hundreds of migrants in Phoenix is 'start of dam breaking'
"You'll start to see this all across the southern border soon," a senior DHS official told NBC News.

WASHINGTON — Hundreds of migrant families seeking asylum in the U.S. were released from detention in Arizona this week without warning and without instructions on where to go, how to find relatives or travel to their court hearings.

A senior Department of Homeland Security official told NBC News the release is "the start of a dam breaking" as family detention facilities, which now hold thousands of migrants, reach capacity.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers are releasing the families from detention en masse without following their usual protocol that ensures immigrants have a means to travel to their court hearing and reunite with potential relatives in the U.S.

The adults have ankle monitors to track their whereabouts until their scheduled court date to make their case before a judge for asylum.

"This is the start of a dam breaking," the official said. "You'll start to see this all across the southern border soon."

The reason, the official said, is the growing number of immigrant families coming to the U.S. seeking asylum. In August, the latest month for which data is available, more than 12,700 parents and children traveling together were apprehended crossing the U.S.-Mexico border, up from 4,193 in August 2017.

ICE spokeswoman Yasmeen O'Keefe said because of the volume of families presenting themselves along the Arizona border, ICE can no longer review each immigrant's travel plans prior to release without violating a federal court agreement, known as the Flores settlement, that limits the amount of time children can be detained to 20 days.

"To mitigate that risk, ICE began to curtail such reviews in Arizona beginning Sunday, October 7," O'Keefe said.

Immediately, churches and nonprofit organizations in Arizona began to feel the effect of that policy. A representative of a church in Phoenix, who asked not to be named in order to avoid retaliation by anti-immigration protesters, said she received word from ICE it would begin bringing the immigrants over the weekend.

By Monday night, her church was providing shelter, food, showers and Greyhound bus tickets to more than 100 immigrants. Previously, the largest number of immigrants the church had sheltered was about 30, she estimates.

She is unsure how many have come without travel arrangements and ICE did not tell her church that many had not been helped with those arrangements.

"We are all sitting here, all volunteers, all running around making sure we have enough pizza to feed lunch to everyone," she said. "We spend so much time with the minutiae that we really don't know what's going on. No one has told us this is part of a broader policy."

Arizona shelter shut in latest case of alleged migrant child abuse

PHOENIX -- Staff members at a Phoenix-area shelter for unaccompanied migrant children physically abused three children, leading to the closure of the shelter, federal officials said. It was the latest in a series of incidents of alleged abuse involving staff members at shelters and children.

Southwest Key's Hacienda del Sol shelter was shut down last Friday, but federal officials did not reveal the reason behind the closure until Tuesday.

The Texas-based federal contractor has fired the staffers involved in the Sept. 18 incident, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services said in a statement.

The agency did not release additional details about the incident.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office did not immediately respond Wednesday to a request to locate the incident in its files. It was not immediately clear how many staff members were involved, or if any face possible criminal charges.

The Health and Human Service Department's Office of Refugee Resettlement oversees children who crossed the border without their parents or have been separate from their parents due to the Trump administration's previous zero-tolerance border policy.

"ORR has a zero-tolerance policy for all forms of abuse or inappropriate behavior at (migrant) care provider facilities and acts quickly to address any alleged violations of policy, including initiating employee disciplinary action, termination, or reporting to law enforcement agencies and all relevant licensing bodies," the agency said.

The children were all relocated to the company's other shelters within 10 days, The Arizona Republic reported.

Southwest Key is working to retrain staff, said Jeff Eller, a Southwest Key spokesman.

The closure comes after Arizona officials moved to revoke the licenses for Southwest Key after it missed a deadline to show that all employees passed background checks.

Arizona has seen numerous allegations of sexual abuse at its many shelters for immigrant children, including one made by the government of El Salvador, which said it received reports of three children, 12 to 17, who were sexually abused at unnamed shelters in Arizona.

Last month, a former youth care worker was convicted of sexually abusing seven teenage boys at a Phoenix-area shelter for immigrant children.

In August, authorities arrested a 32-year-old man on allegations that he had molested a 14-year-old girl at a Southwest Key facility the previous month.

One of the really disgusting things on this thread is the way @shootersa has consistently tried to derail and deflect screaming about our terrible "foster care system" to falsely claim that people like me who think Trump's child separation policy is nothing short of child snatching and child abuse just want to bash Trump and don't care about American kids placed in the "hell of foster care." But when I did a search of shootersa's posts on foster care I found about 35 of them with about 90% dealing with the child separation policy and exactly one that even mentioned "the hell of foster care" but did not elaborate. But maybe I missed some and shootersa can post them to defend himself.

But even so I will be very interested to see if he still supports Trump on this.

So they can say "asylum" and force a years long series of hearings to get them out. Meanwhile, they establish roots and suck off of our society.

Meanwhile, in the United States, 450,000 American kids, "torn from the arms of their mothers" are in foster care. 80% are abused, 60% are sexually abused. 20% of them will never be adopted or returned to their families. Virtually none will attend college, only a small minority will finish High School. They face a future that includes a much greater chance of early death, pregnancy, drug addiction, and poverty.

They are lost souls in Shooters opinion, and before we wring our hands and gnash our teeth in emotional outbursts at the relatively safe situation of people who have come here ILLEGALLY, we perhaps ought to think a bit about the much larger problem we have with foster kids, and if we must wring our hands and gnash our teeth and have emotional outbursts, how about it be for American kids who have done nothing to deserve what they experience.

Ramos had a history of prior convictions, but due to Virginia Beach’s sanctuary policies, he was never detained. He was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to 40 years in prison.

You don't need to bother answering. Your mission to destroy Trump knows no boundaries, does not subscribe to anything approaching honesty, or ethics, or fairness. When "Jimmy" was assigned to me I thought he would be adopted quickly. He was a beautiful blonde boy, blue eyes, and the most engaging smile ever.

The foster family I placed him with was unknown to me; we were stretched thin for foster care beds, and I had to take what was available. When I dropped Jimmy off with them they seemed like a nice couple, the home was clean and their two children were well behaved and anxious to meet their new friend. Jimmy was excited to start in his new school with his new friends.

Two days later I got the call from the Hospital. Jimmy was in the emergency room. When I got there, I found my engaging blue eyed little boy wrapped in bandages and with tubes and monitors all over him. The doctor said Jimmy had been found in a neighbors garage, severely beaten and sexually abused. The neighbor had been arrested. The neighbor, it turned out, was a violent sex offender released the prior year from prison. No one was told of the mans record. No one thought to check the proximity of a foster care home to the home of a sexual predator monster. Until he kidnapped, raped, sodomized, and beat Jimmy there had been no problems.

Jimmy was awake, and I sat with him while the doctors finished up. Jimmy looked over at me and said "did you know about our neighbor"?
No, I didn't.
"Then it's OK. But tell other kids; they can't hear you scream when the door is closed. Don't ever let them close the door."

Jimmy died two days later.

It's been nearly a year since 3-year-old Fabian Garcia died in the care of a Big Island foster home.

Records: ER staff suspected abuse in death of 3-year-old foster child
A Hawaii County medical examiner ruled the cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head. But exactly how that trauma happened remains a mystery.

"It's just miserable — what happened," said Garcia's mother, Sherri Garett.

On Tuesday, Garett was finally able to speak publicly about her son's death. A gag order initiated by state Department of Human Services has prevented the toddler's parents from talking.

But recently, the state Supreme Court ruled that order was unconstitutional.

Garett remembers little Fabian as always wearing a smile. He was caring and a quick learner, she said.

"Life seemed to excite him. It was awesome," She said. "In turn, he made us the happiest we had every been."

But that changed in 2016.

The family's attorney says the state placed Fabian and his two siblings into foster care based on a parent's positive drug test and the fact that the family was renting a home that was in foreclosure.

It wasn't long before Garett says she saw signs of mistreatment.

"Black eyes, lumps on their forehead, missing fingernails, bite marks, bruises, deep scratches on my son's genitals," Garett said.

During their last visit, she recalls Fabian screaming and trying to hide when it was time to say goodbye.

After his death emergency room staff diagrammed his injuries because they too suspected abuse.

July 26 will mark one year since Fabian's death, but the toddler's autopsy report has yet to be released.

Garett says not having those answers has made it impossible to move forward and she worries the lack of forensic insight could compromise the investigation into her son's death.

"I would have died for him. There's no way that he would've died before me if he was still with me," Garett said.

She says she's determined to get to the bottom of her son's death and keep his memory alive.

"He was here. He was awesome and he deserves justice," she said.

About a month after Fabian's death, the state Department of Human Services returned the boy's two siblings to Garett.

HNN reached out to the agency and asked about its investigation into the boy's death. A spokesperson said they are unable to share any information.

The parents of little Alex lost custody of their daughter when law enforcement learned they had smoked marijuana while the child was asleep in her room. There does not seem to be any other rationale proffered for the removal of Alex from her parents' care -- one use of marijuana, in the home, while the child was asleep.

The parents were cited for neglect and Alex entered the foster care system. During an early visit, Alex's father noticed the child had unexplained bruising on her body, and also that her bag had mold and a strong mildew odor. He demanded that Alex be moved to a safer home, and Alex was, in fact, moved into the home of another foster parent, a woman named Sherill Small.

Seven months later, Alex was brought to the hospital where she remained, comatose, for two days before she died.

Small has been arrested and charged with capital murder. And a caring father will never have the chance to regain custody of his child.

What makes this case even more galling is that the CPS agency in question had a problematic record when it came to ensuring safe environments for foster children:

Officials with the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services tell KVUE they rely on private child placing agencies to perform background checks on all foster homes. The agency in this case is called Texas Mentor and state records show 15 total deficiencies for the Austin branch of that agency over the past two years. Four of those deficiencies were for failing to perform proper background checks on people who live in foster homes.
We can leave the debate about whether parental marijuana use constitutes de facto neglect or abuse for another time. It's undisputed Alex's parents broke the law in Texas when they smoked pot.

But from the sole perspective of the child's welfare, it's hard to give any credence to the notion that Alex was in more danger in her parents' home than she was in foster care -- especially given the tragic outcome.

Or even this child??

A little more than two months after three children were removed from the Caneyville home of Ryan and April Payton in March 2017, the youngest of the children — age 4 — died from a head injury while in foster care at a Radcliff home.

On Thursday night, the man police believe is responsible for the May 10 death of Hunter Payton was arrested and charged with murder.

Billy Paul Embry, 33, was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Thursday by Radcliff police. According to an arrest warrant, a final report from the state Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville determined the boy died from an inflicted head injury.

Elizabethtown attorney Ron Hines, who is representing the Paytons, said Friday the children never should have been removed from the home in the first place. The three children, Hines said, had been in foster care since March 6 at the home of Embry and his husband.

Hines said someone reported to Child Protective Services there was drug use in the Payton home. He said the couple was given less than 24 hours to take a drug test or the children would be removed. He said they didn’t have the money to pay for a test and the next day, CPS removed the two boys and a girl. Hunter was the youngest of the children.

A person with the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services’ Protection and Permanency office in Elizabethtown said Friday afternoon no one from the office could comment. A number provided to seek comment went unanswered twice Friday afternoon.

“They didn’t have the $20,” Hines said. “Some people are stretched each month for that $20.”

Hines said he became involved in the case shortly after Hunter’s death when a friend of the couple recommended they call him.

The other children were removed from Embry’s home, Hines said, soon after Hunter initially was injured and they remain in foster care.

Embry told authorities in May that Hunter had suffered a head injury from a fall, the warrant stated.

Radcliff Police Department was contacted May 8 by Norton Children’s Hospital in Louisville in reference to a possible child abuse incident after the child was transported there from Hardin Memorial Hospital. When Hunter arrived at the hospital, he was unconscious and not breathing, according to the warrant.

He was pronounced dead at 8:15 a.m. May 10.

An autopsy was performed May 11 and a final findings report from examinations was completed Dec. 27. A warrant for Embry’s arrest was issued Thursday night.

Hunter initially was injured, according to the warrant, at a residence on Black Ravens Court. Embry was the only adult in the home when the child sustained the injury.

“We’ve been trying to get these children out of foster care and back to their loving parents,” Hines said.

He said the family is pleased someone is being “brought to justice.”

“It’s somewhat anti-climactic,” Hines said. “Their son is still dead. ... They are somewhat relieved, not that there is closure. At least someone is being held accountable.”

Embry is being held in lieu of a $250,000 cash bond in the Hardin County Detention Center. He is scheduled to appear at 9 a.m. Friday in Hardin District Court.

Radcliff Police Chief Jeff Cross said the investigation into the child’s death is ongoing.

“We had to wait to get everything we needed with results,” he said. “That’s why there was a delay in the charges.”

He said Embry is “where we believe the responsibility lies.”

First there is no guarantee that people who meet your criteria will make good parents. Second, your criteria smacks of your prejudices. We're talking drug addicts right? I did it really didn't answer my concerns. You foster a very simple criteria that you believe would cure a lot of problems but you neglect the complexities involved with this idea. As I stated above it only addresses what you see as "unfit" to have and raise children, when there are a lot more factors to consider before we turn reproduction over to the state.

There are two really strange developments in this issue. One is kind of scary to me and that is that most of the children taken out of the polygamist compound are being shipped out to foster care. I really have to wonder what these kids are going through and how tough it must be for the ones who were not abused or taken advantage of to be taken from their parents and placed with strangers.

SAN ANTONIO - More than half the teenage girls taken from a polygamist compound in west Texas have children or are pregnant, state officials said Monday.

A total of 53 girls between the ages of 14 and 17 are in state custody after a raid 3 1/2 weeks ago at the Yearning For Zion Ranch in Eldorado. Of those girls, 31 either have children or are pregnant, said Child Protective Services spokesman Darrell Azar. He didn't specify how many are pregnant.
"It shows you a pretty distinct pattern, that it was pretty pervasive," he said.
State officials took custody of all 463 children at the ranch controlled by the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, saying a pattern of teen girls forced into underage "spiritual" marriages and sex with much older men created an unsafe environment for the sect's children.
Under Texas law, children under the age of 17 generally cannot consent to sex with an adult. A girl can get married with parental permission at 16, but none of these girls is believed to have a legal marriage under state law.
State officials said earlier that they had found girls who were pregnant or had children of their own at the ranch, but they had not provided more than rough estimates until Monday.
Church officials have denied that any children were abused at the ranch and say the state's actions are a form of religious persecution.
FLDS spokesman Rod Parker said he does not believe the CPS count is accurate. He said that from talking to ranch residents, he believes at least 17 of the girls may actually be adults but have been labeled by CPS as minors.
Agency officials have called into question claims of adulthood among the girls since the raid and have in some cases disputed documentation provided, saying the girls look younger than 18. Because many FLDS members share similar names and have complicated family relationships, identifying all of the children taken into custody has been a challenge.
"I do have serious questions about how they are determining age in there," said Parker, who is trying to get a better count from FLDS families.
He noted though that since law enforcement confiscated every document that might show family relationships as part of its weeklong raid, the sect is at a disadvantage in proving names and ages.
The latest information from CPS comes with "absolutely nothing to back it up other than it's coming from them, and they think we should trust them," Parker said.
All the children are supposed to get individual hearings before June 5 to help determine whether they'll stay in state custody or that parents may be able to take steps to regain custody of their children.
Civil-liberties groups and lawyers for the children have criticized the state for sweeping all the children, from nursing infants to teen boys, into foster care when only teen girls are alleged to have been sexually abused.
No one has been charged since the raid, which was prompted by a series of calls to a domestic abuse hotline, purportedly from a 16-year-old forced into a marriage recognized only by the sect with a man three times her age. That girl has not been found and authorities are investigating whether the call was a hoax.
On Monday, CPS also revised its total count of children in state custody to 463, up one from Friday. Azar said the change resulted from finally getting the children out of the San Angelo Coliseum and into foster facilities around the state, where they were able to get a more accurate count.
Of those 463 children, 250 are girls and 213 are boys. Children 13 and younger are about evenly split — 197 girls and 196 boys — but there are only 17 boys aged 14 to 17 compared with the 53 girls in that age range.
Azar said the numbers could still change slightly because authorities have not seen documentation on all the children and have struggled to positively identify everyone.
On Monday, all were assigned caseworkers, who will work only on FLDS cases.
The sect, which broke from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints more than a century ago, believes polygamy brings glorification in heaven. Its leader, Warren Jeffs, is revered as a prophet. Jeffs was convicted last year in Utah of forcing a 14-year-old girl into marriage with an older cousin.

Glad you asked. I've spent all of my adult life thinking about kids and helping them through things like coaching wrestling, working in things like the Boys and Girls Club, working with parents I know to see if I can talk them out of raising their kids the same fucked up ways they were raised. I've volunteered at the school, mentored kids, and things as simple as just talking to them at sporting events, school plays, and even just in stores telling complete strangers; you done good kid.

For the other ones the world over I try and remember that where ever bombs are falling they are also falling on kids, where ever cluster bombs are being dropped kids are stepping on them. Where ever bullets are flying they are hitting kids. And not matter what those terrorists did to us on 9/11 their kids didn't do a damn thing.

I remember when ever we allow our selves to react with anger and emotion instead of reason, understanding, compassion and logic, were doing the same thing child abusers do, because its not just what we do, its how we think that allows violence, abuse, neglect and death to spread the world over and get to the kids. And I also remember every day not matter what color or religion the parents are kids and just kids and deserve to be carried for and taken care of. And most of all I never support things that end up punishing kids because they were born to shitty parents.

And we all need to remember that when we bitch about welfare programs, advocate for drug testing parents on welfare and taking away their benefits if they test positive, complain about illegal aliens getting benefits and possibly worst of all allow us to think that putting a kid in foster care is better then leaving them with parents that might be fucked up but still love and care for their kids.

This isn't a morbid thought its logic and reason. What did that kid really die of? Mental illness and violence. As I watch this thread progress and I see most people on it support and even glorifying violence I have to see them as similar to the guy who stomped that kid to death. No matter what we may think of him, in his own mind he believed the kid deserved it.

Here's your delusional prejudices in action again. You got any idea how many children are raped beaten abused and neglected in the foster care system. The lucky ones end up living a life of constantly being shuffled from place to place never even having a stable life. There aren't people willing to adopt them, that's a sickening myth. As I have explained and others have witnessed just because people live in poverty, or do drugs, or live in bad neighborhoods does not mean they don't love their kids every bit as much as you do. If you really care about the kids then you would work to try and elevate poverty, you would support social programs to make sure they have medical care, adequate food and clothing and education for both their parents and them to try and end these cycles. Instead you always want to tout things like personal responsibility and if people make bad choices they should have to bear the negative consequences of those choices. But if you really loved and cared about kids, you'd remember they are not the ones who made those choices, so there is no way they can be responsible for them but they are actually forced to bear more of the hurt, damage and suffering then their parents.

But it does not change the fact that there are multitudes more kids in need of foster care then there are foster parents like the ones you describe. Many regular posters know that both of Shooter's kids are adopted. They are brother and sister, so we kind of got a 2 fer 1 deal.

Our son was 7 and our daughter was 4 when we adopted them. They had been in foster care since their mother killed a third sibling, about a year before. She was a drug using prostitute who was a user/abuser from a very early age.

Shooter gives the state child welfare folks very high marks; they made sure we understood all the shit that was about to come down on us as new parents. They supported us and monitored us from our first contact with them and for about 6 months after the adoption was final. Perhaps most important, our kids each got a "life book" that detailed their life. The books included pictures of the birth mom and some of her family members, their original birth certificates, our daughters had a snip of her hair and so forth. Those books are perhaps the most important possession our kids have. Our daughter added a couple of chapters to it when she was older. It gave our kids a sense of heritage.

Couple of things if anyone is considering adoption;
1) The kids will come with baggage. They will come with baggage. Guaranteed. They will pee in the closet. They will hide food. They will lie. They will bite. They will act irrational. They will tell you they hate you. They will tell your state counselor you are abusing them. Learn to deal with it.
2) Any kid who has been in foster care/state care is a well developed con artist. Defenses up!
3) You will not have a good medical history or family medical history. This is important; when you are sure you have found your kids make the state (or whoever) show you the file. All of it. If necessary, be an asshole about it. Even well intentioned counselors won't tell you everything. In our case they wouldn't let me copy any of it or take it out of the agency, but I spent a full day reading and taking notes. That knowledge probably saved our sons life a few years later.
4) Schools should understand that adopted kids struggle with projects that require them to write about themselves and their families. My son told his teacher to go fuck herself. My daughter wrote one of the most moving and intelligent papers I've ever read when she was 11 years old. One would think this isn't that big a deal, but really, it stirs up a lot of shit adopted kids are trying to deal with and get behind them.
5) Above all, they need love and stability. They need to believe from a very early point that no matter what, you are their parents now, and you will not leave them or abandon them. No matter what. And they will promptly and often test you on this. See item 1.
6) If you cannot go into adoption with the absolute commitment that you are in this for life, and that no matter what they do or turn into, they are yours and your responsibility, don't do it. Don't do it because it will scar you, and will certainly scar the kids. This is not a joke, or like getting a puppy, or for that matter, like anything you have ever done before.
7) It is both the happiest and scariest moment when you hear the judge say "you are now officially a family" In our case, it was also the moment our son picked to test us (see item 5).
8) They will continually remind you that you are not their "real" parents. Warning; this is another test. Our answer was always "Well you are our real kids, now do what I tell you".
9) No matter how carefully you plan and budget, no matter the financial help the state or whoever gives you, adopting kids are expensive. Not the legal fees (we had none) but the shit you have to buy kids when they come live with you. Ours each came with their entire worldly goods in a shopping bag. Except for keepsakes, everything in the bag and everything they were wearing we had to throw out. And replace. Plus. Think about it. Full wardrobes for each. Bedroom furniture. Toys. Bikes. Everything. Right now. Plus, they needed medical check ups, and that led to a lot of dentist bills, counseling sessions, in my son's case treatment for a hereditary joint issue no one knew about, and tutors. Adopted kids are almost certainly going to need help catching up in school.
10) And finally, whatever you think would be the ideal kid(s) for you to adopt, know two things. Your ideal kid, right down to eye color, is out there and ready to be adopted. And almost certainly, if you and the agency you work with do it right, you will not end up with your "ideal" kid.
You will end up with your kids though. And be much richer for it.

But the real thing is we now have more than 3,000 children in a tent city concentration camp right now. And you know what? Reality does come to bear. We have thousands more on the way and no fucking place to put them.

Inside Tornillo: The expanded tent city for migrant children
The facility in western Texas can house up to 3,800 children and plans to stay open until at least the end of the year.

TORNILLO, Texas — Thirty miles from El Paso in this small dusty border town, teenage boys can be seen playing soccer behind barbed wire fences in front of a backdrop of hundreds of white-topped tents.

Here, the Trump administration has vastly expanded its capabilities to hold immigrant children in temporary tent shelters before they are united with parents, other relatives or sponsors.

Children between 13 and 17 were brought here from more than 100 other Health and Human Service facilities across 17 states now at capacity.

Tornillo's so-called "tent city" was designed to temporarily house 450 children under the care of Health and Human Services in June, when Trump's zero tolerance policy separated over 2,500 migrant children from their parents. Now, after the vast majority of those children have been reunited, the facility still holds 1,500 children, all of whom crossed without parents. Tornillo's tent city can now hold 3,800 children and plans to stay open until the end of the year or longer if necessary.

The Department of Homeland Security and HHS say the expansion was necessary to deal with the surge of immigrant children arriving at the border without guardians to care for them. But border crossings by unaccompanied alien children, known as UACs to immigration agents, are not at record levels.

The incident commander in charge of Tornillo's facility told reporters on Friday "there is no question whatsoever" that the rise in migrant children being detained by the U.S. government is due to the "extra precautions" the Trump administration is now taking to match children to suitable guardians, including their biological parents.

Under the new standards, everyone in the household where a child may be placed must now submit fingerprints to be run against FBI criminal background databases. Previously, those who could show documentation proving to be a biological parent and household members were excluded from background checks.

The incident commander said that as of Friday, 826 out of the 1,500 children in Tornillo were awaiting the completion of those background checks before they could go to a home.

The average length of stay for children at Tornillo is now 59 days, up from roughly 30 days under the Obama administration, according to HHS. Children at Tornillo stay an average of 25 days, according to HHS, but many have waited longer at other facilities.

One 16-year-old Guatemalan girl, whose name will not be disclosed for privacy reasons, told NBC News that she has spent one month in Tornillo after spending two-and-a-half months in a HHS facility in Miami. She is waiting to be reunited with her adult brother, who is living in Texas, and said she fears being sent back to Guatemala where her parents live.

Lawyers from the ACLU have argued subjecting parents to fingerprinting and background checks is burdensome and separates families over small crimes that would otherwise not be the grounds for taking a child from a home of a U.S. citizen.

Because Tornillo is on federal land, it is not subject to state inspections, something that many child welfare advocates are quick to point out as a potential for danger and mismanagement. The incident commander, however, said Tornillo exceeds state standards when it comes to ratios for childcare, medical and mental health workers.

Life in Tornillo
While children live in this limbo — first waiting for their sponsor, and then waiting to find out whether they will be allowed to stay in the United States — HHS follows a strict schedule to occupy their time.

Children spend most of the day in fully enclosed air-conditioned tents, where they receive schooling, meals, and recreational activities. Three workers are assigned to sleeping tents of 20 children each. Until recently, children were given optional workbooks rather than mandatory lessons taught by teachers.

The favorite activity by far, according to care workers, is soccer. Children have three hours of recreational time each day and usually flock to the turf for soccer games.

Touring the sleeping tents, one finds birthday balloons, art projects and toys made of yarn dangling from the bunks. Some have Bible verses and hand-drawn pictures of home with the words like "Honduras" spelled across them.

Lining the soccer field are trailers labeled for the services they offer the children. One trailer devoted to haircuts has a "BARBER" sign on the door. A group of boys were lined up around the trailer, waiting for a trim. Four other boys sitting in the back, all age 14, said they've been treated well inside the facility.

One of the nearby tents features a form at the entrance, allowing the boys to request to meet with medical professionals, mental health workers, case managers or legal services. The staff have 12 hours to respond to the requests, according to the incident commander.

On the opposite side of Tornillo, more than 300 girls live in the largest tent in the camp. Beds line one side and on the other sit the tables and chairs that the girls use to eat their meals and have classes. "It's like a house party," the incident commander said.

On Friday afternoon, a 15-year-old girl from Honduras was sitting on her bed, pulling her dark hair into a ponytail. She said she had recently celebrated her birthday in Tornillo.

Children are allowed to make two phone calls per week to their family members or sponsors. But the teen girl said on her birthday she wasn't able to contact her relative living in Virginia. She didn't know the phone number.

Yeah God spare those kids from the "hell of foster care", or living with family, or a sponsor. So much more humane to concentrate them in tents 20 to the tent until .......... sometime..

More and more it's looking like those "spontaeous" asylum marches are well organized assaults on America.

Not that it matters to the gemeral. The mission comes first.

And if the general thinks bringing shooters kids into it will get a rise, he's sadly mistaken. Shooter is proud of his kids.

And, considering who is bringing them up, the post is just more of the same ignorant shit we always see from the general.
