  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Lmao.

Did you actually read and think about what you posted ,
or just fall in love with the idea ?

that's gotta be about the most cockeyed bit of bullshit humour in a long time.

Some ignoramous predicted 2.2 million deaths by now (so he says) ,
on god knows what basis ,
so that means your "recovering" better than expected .

exactly on what basis are you "recovering" at all

Surely you can't be serious ?

You've got the worst covid record in the world already anyway ,
but to have , 2.2 million deaths , you'd have a death rate of over 25%

It never even looked like it.

    Plus
if 25% of your infected people were dying , I'm quite sure you'd have all got over your pretty devisive squabbling
    and bullshitting ,
enough to make a halfway decent attempt to control and stop it.

      ER.
how would the death of two million get you herd immunity ?

By my calculations it would be more like
      35 million American deaths ,
      to gain proper herd immunity.

Currently , 2 million deaths would only gain you about 5% immunity (at average known rates)

Here's one for those of you who want to be members of the herd mentality!

Ending Covid-19 via herd immunity is 'a dangerous fallacy'
Prominent scientists sign open letter saying strategy is ‘unsupported by evidence’

The concept of ending the Covid pandemic through herd immunity is “a dangerous fallacy unsupported by scientific evidence”, say 80 researchers in a warning letter published by a leading medical journal.

The international signatories of the open letter in the Lancet say the interest in herd immunity comes from “widespread demoralisation and diminishing trust” as a result of restrictions being reimposed in many countries because of surging infections in a second wave.

The suggestion that the way out is by protecting the vulnerable and allowing the virus to transmit among those less at risk is flawed, they say. “Uncontrolled transmission in younger people risks significant morbidity and mortality across the whole population. In addition to the human cost, this would impact the workforce as a whole and overwhelm the ability of healthcare systems to provide acute and routine care.”

The signatories have expertise spanning public health, epidemiology, medicine, paediatrics, sociology, virology, infectious disease, health systems, psychology, psychiatry, health policy, and mathematical modelling. They include a number of scientists who sit on the breakaway Independent Sage group in the UK, such as former chief scientist Sir David King, former WHO director Anthony Costello, virologist Prof Deenan Pillay, behavioural scientist Prof Susan Michie and professor of European public health Martin McKee.

There is no evidence that immunity after recovering from Covid-19 lasts, they say, adding that people who are vulnerable would be at risk for the indefinite future and cannot be kept safe.

“Prolonged isolation of large swathes of the population is practically impossible and highly unethical,” they say, calling for action to suppress the levels of virus in the population.

“It is critical to act decisively and urgently,” they say. “Effective measures that suppress and control transmission need to be implemented widely, and they must be supported by financial and social programmes that encourage community responses and address the inequities that have been amplified by the pandemic.”

Those restrictions will be needed “to reduce transmission and fix ineffective pandemic response systems, in order to prevent future lockdowns”. If the numbers of infections can be pushed down to a low level, it will be possible to keep the virus suppressed through “an efficient and comprehensive” test, trace, isolate and support system, “so life can return to near-normal without the need for generalised restrictions. Protecting our economies is inextricably tied to controlling Covid-19. We must protect our workforce and avoid long-term uncertainty.”

There are success stories – among them Japan, Vietnam and New Zealand, they say.

“The evidence is very clear: controlling community spread of Covid-19 is the best way to protect our societies and economies until safe and effective vaccines and therapeutics arrive within the coming months. We cannot afford distractions that undermine an effective response; it is essential that we act urgently based on the evidence.”

Other signatories to the letter from the UK include epidemiologist Prof David Hunter, cancer researcher Prof Charles Swanton of the Crick Institute and global health professor Devi Sridhar. Those from the US include global health professor Gavin Yamey of Duke University, Prof Rochelle P Walensky from Harvard medical school and Dr Ali Nouri of the Federation of American Scientists. Researchers from Italy, Israel, Malaysia, Spain, Ireland, Germany, France, Australia, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Canada have also signed.

Trump has pushed all actual scientists and doctors that actually specialize in infections diseases aside and instead is listening to and acting on the already debunked lies of a radiologist because he looked good on Fox News.

The big problem many , maybe most places now have ,
    is covid weariness.

After misleading and miss leading their populations , with bullshit information ,
misinformation , useless half arse measures and leadership ,

How the Fuck can you get leadership that will turn around , backtrack on all the bullshit , dish out the tough reality ,
    and
put their people under propper control measures that work ,
    and
get them to follow them ,
and accept penalties for those who don't
    etc , etc ,
after 10 months of crap nonsense ?

Well we'd love to have you ,
but it's not looking good for at least a couple of years.

    So sad .
This could have been mostly all over in a couple of months ,
if only people and authorities did the basic right thing ,
    instead of blaming and bullshitting.

    Such a disappointment ,
and a pain in the arse ,
that we all have to live with this unnecessary problem for endless months ,
and probably at least a couple of years.

While petty squabbling and bullshitting carries on ,
NONE of us are safe .

We all have to live with the consequences of others stupidity ,
and the high risk of it comming back ,
for those of us who did make the effort and got control.

Over 70,000 again in the US yesterday ,
    over 60,000 the day before.
(even India , with the population , and much worse demographics , can't catch up

This is not going away untill the people wake up and smell the flowers ,
    and tell their leaders
    they need meaningful action ,
    not half arsed dodging.

It's really not that hard ,
compared to the ongoing months and years of this shit.

Two , maybe three months , you can gain control ,
but you gotta start with at least four weeks of hard arsed genuine all over effort.

Following my post two above , #2732 ,
here today we have a case in point.

A new case who is not an arrival (not an import , but the source certainly is.

    * * *

There is a new case of covid-19 in the community in New Zealand today.

The person with the Covid-19 infection is a man who works in ports in New Zealand, including in the last two weeks at ports in Auckland and Taranaki.

He was regularly tested as part of border testing working in the shipping industry.

He returned a negative test on October 2 but felt unwell on Friday October 16 and after contacting Healthline, took a Covid-19 test which returned a positive result yesterday afternoon.

Bloomfield said the contact tracing systems were quickly put into action.

“Because the man was tested so quickly after developing symptoms within the space of a few hours, we were able to identify and isolate his own close contacts within the space of a few hours .

    * * *
So there we have a perfect illustration of the ongoing problems for all of us who do have covid under control ,
we never know where the next case might originate.
In this case off a ship involved in imports and exports through our ports.

Now we have to wait and see if the border testing regime has been rigid enough to keep this case confined to his close contacts.

If not we could be headed for more restrictions again.

Interestingly , no-one on the ship is showing any symptoms ,
    and
they were all wearing PPE ,
so you'd be excused for thinking there was almost no risk.

    Just goes to show ,

and it's happening almost everywhere that has it under control.
All having problems with it comming back across the border , one way or another.

Once again we are very lucky the man was being cautious , limiting contacts anyway , because of his job having contact with foreigners on ships , and self isolated as soon as he had the first hint of possible symptoms.

It is worrying that there is no obvious source of the infection suggesting it could be from a viral residue on the impoted goods.

      Could be.
      Maybe ,
more likely there's an asyptomatic carrier on the boat .
      (or someone's bullshitting)

I guess we'll find out in time.

They'll have the genome sequence soon ,
      quite possibly already done,
then they'll have an idea of whereabouts it's origins were.

The vessel is currently at anchor offshore , refused entry to its next port of call.

So there'll be lots of testing before there's any more unloading or anything alongside.

    No new cases today ,
so no contacts tested so far are infected.

Gnome sequencing shows the one new community case is a completely new strain to NZ.

So it is not connected in any way to any previous cases.

The ship he is thaught most likely to have caught it from , is now on its way to Brisbane .

The second ship he had contacts with , is quarantined at anchor off its next port of call. (while it is possible that ship was the source , it is not thaught likely.
The concern is more that he may have spread it to that ship)

Well in the US your cases are sky rocketting and the point man for Trump is an X-ray machine operator!

    Way to go.....

Twitter removes false coronavirus tweet by Trump's favourite health adviser
    • Scott Atlas tweeted: ‘Masks work? NO!’
    • Twitter bans ‘false or misleading content’ with potential to harm
Twitter has removed a tweet by Scott Atlas, a controversial scientist who has Donald Trump’s ear, in which he wrongly stated that masks fail to protect against coronavirus.

The Washington Post, meanwhile, reported that Atlas has scattered discord inside the White House, so infuriating Deborah Birx, the coronavirus response coordinator, that she complained to Vice-President Mike Pence, calling for Atlas to be removed.

The Post reported that at one meeting in the Oval Office, Atlas placed himself behind the Resolute Desk after Trump had left the room. The scientist, a senior fellow from Stanford’s conservative Hoover Institution, denied the account.

On Sunday, Twitter took down the tweet in which Atlas said: “Masks work? NO.” The company said the post violated its policy on Covid-19 misinformation that prohibits “sharing false or misleading content which could lead to harm”.

In a stream of posts, Atlas falsely claimed that several US states and other countries had taken up widespread use of masks without evidence of any positive effect. He also incorrectly said that there were “many harms” to the practice.

Twitter’s move to block Atlas’s public comments is the latest controversy to hit since he joined the White House as a pandemic adviser in August.

A neuroradiologist, Atlas has no training in virology or epidemiology yet is understood to have become the key scientific influence on the president, eclipsing respected experts such as Anthony Fauci, the country’s top specialist in infectious diseases.

Atlas’s views on how to deal with the virus have raised alarm in scientific circles. He has repeatedly cast doubt on masks and social distancing, and suggested people could gain natural self-defenses against the disease even without a vaccine through “herd immunity”.

Shortly after his appointment to the White House, 78 of his former colleagues at Stanford medical school wrote an open letter in which they lamented that many of Atlas’s opinions “run counter to established science”. Robert Redfield, head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), was recently overheard discussing Atlas on a phone call. “Everything he says is false,” Redfield said.

Coronavirus is back on the ascendant, across the US. Data compiled by Johns Hopkins records more than 8m confirmed cases, with almost 220,000 deaths.

\Friday saw the daily number of confirmed cases exceed 70,000 for the first time since July, with almost 900 deaths. In a leaked report, the White House put 26 states in the “red zone” – indicating a dangerous level of new infections – including almost all states in the midwest.

The surge in cases spells political peril for Trump as he finalizes his push for re-election in two weeks’ time. His rival, former vice-president Joe Biden, has put criticism of Trump’s handling of the pandemic at the center of his campaign.

Despite the rising numbers, and despite his own recent illness from the disease, Trump has stuck to his line that the threat of the virus is overplayed. At a rally in Nevada on Sunday he repeated his false claim that the US was “rounding the turn”.

In North Carolina on Sunday, Biden said: “As my grandfather would say, ‘This guy’s gone around the bend if he thinks we’ve turned the corner.’ Things are getting worse, and he continues to lie to us about circumstances.”

Trump and Atlas have regularly been seen in public without wearing masks. Their behavior goes against the official advice of the administration’s own public health agency, the CDC, which recommends mask-wearing in public settings.

Masks are particularly important for preventing the spread of the virus from people who show no symptoms and may not know they are contagious. Face coverings are primarily useful in protecting other people, rather than the individuals wearing them.

    A summary from the Guardian......

How are countries across the world responding to a resurgence in coronavirus cases? PA Media has the following round-up:

    France

    • President Emmanuel Macron announced a 9pm to 6am curfew for nine French cities last week as new daily infections peaked at more than 30,000.
    • The measure, which came into force on Saturday and is due to last at least four weeks, affects almost 20 million people in cities including Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Lille and Toulouse.
    • Macron also reinstated the state of health emergency for France, which ended three months ago.
    Germany

    • Chancellor Angela Merkel has urged people to avoid unnecessary travel, cancel parties and remain at home wherever possible.
    • While Germany was praised for its response to the first wave of Covid-19, case numbers have rapidly climbed over recent weeks, setting a new record of 7,830 on Saturday.
    • Merkel has called on Germans to obey the rules as they did earlier this year.
    Italy

    • Prime minister Giuseppe Conte announced new measures at the weekend meaning that mayors can close public squares after 9pm, permitting access only to reach homes or businesses – a move that stops short of the stricter French curfew.
    • Restaurants and bars can only operate with table service after 6pm, but can stay open until midnight, while local festivals have been banned.
    • With more testing in place, new daily infections in Italy have doubled in a week to more than 10,000.
    Netherlands

    • Prime minister Mark Rutte said last week that the country needed to move a step closer to a full lockdown due to the spread of the virus, with cases increasing by some 60% in a week.
    • As of last Wednesday, bars and restaurants were closed, the sale of alcohol after 8pm was banned and households could receive no more than three guests per day.
    • People were also advised to limit their use of public transport as much as possible.
    Czech Republic

    • A surge in infections in the Czech Republic in recent weeks has made it one of Europe’s worst-hit countries.
    • Restrictions include a ban on sports competitions, the closure of bars and restaurants, and a ban on public gatherings of more than six people.
    • The new measures sparked a violent protest in Prague at the weekend.
    Australia

    • Restrictions in Melbourne have been eased, with residents no longer limited in the time they can spend away from home for education or socialising.
    • Restrictions allowing people to travel three miles from home have been increased to 15 miles, and outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people from two households will be allowed.
    • The partial reopening of shops, bars and restaurants will begin on 2 November.
