Fifteen stories is more than we've seen in a while, which seems to prove the worth of the theme. Good job, Hush!

It's interesting that non-entries outnumber entries. Is this because the CAW and KAW series have gone on long enough to produce a fair sized group of winners? Or is it because the veterans aren't afraid to write, even knowing they can't win? These writing challenges aren't about votes, folks -- never were. They're about having fun and maybe entertaining your peers by writing.

If you're sitting there wondering if you might enter - DO SO! It can be both rewarding and enjoyable. My interest was piqued by the very first CAW back in 2010, I'd always secretly harboured a desire to write stories but had never had anything to inspire me to do so. @ejls 's challenge interested me, and subsequently I have discovered a hobby which I find to be a pleasant pastime.

Of course, I also harbour a wish to be 'discovered' and become the next EL James or JK Rowling and get rich & famous, but I know that's never going to happen, I just enjoy taking part in the various challenges. Sometimes I do quite well in the voting (I even won one once), sometimes I bomb out (I have come last, or next to last on several occasions) but it's always fun taking part whenever I have the time to spare.

 

I know this is probably tongue in cheek, but I also know it's a dream of many an author, so I may just leave my two cents about this, for posterity: I don't think anyone gets "discovered" anymore, at least not in the traditional sense. Certainly not here. Editors and publishers get enough manuscripts on a daily basis to never having to hunt for new talent on obscure parts of the internet ever again. James and Rowling didn't get "discovered" either. James had a massive following from her fanfic and Rowling just sent her manuscript to many publishers the old-fashioned way. Both are also extremely good at what they're doing, so that helps.

But, to be perfectly honest, it's never been easier as it is today to just publish your stuff yourself, if you're really inclined to do so. All major ebook stores make it easy for independend authors to put their works on there, and there are several services which can even get your books into print and physically into the hands of your readers. So, if anyone really dreams of doing this, there's really no excuse anymore not to try it.

 

I can think of one example. Andy Weir he published his novel himself on Amazon, then a literary agent approached him. Then the literary agent sent it to the publishers.

Though by the time he was "discovered", he was getting near the top of the Amazon best sellers.

 

Andy Weir has nothing to fear from me outdoing him.

 

No need for the YET. I know very well that I cannot attain such a high level of performance. I just enjoy trying to do a fair job writing in a second language.

Just wanted to say again that I'll probably participate. The story is about 90% done, and I'll try to finish it in time. It's like my 4th attempt at the same story, lol, though I guess it's because I wasn't sure how to approach it. We'll see how it'll end up.

 

I haven't spent much time here lately. I have been busy the last couple months.

I am glad to see writers still write, Readers still read, and Trolls still suck ass-water.
