BRADENTON, Fla. – Over and over and over, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has described his COVID-19 vaccination plan in just two words: “Seniors First” — yet the addition of two extra words at the beginning might have made it far more accurate: “Rich” and “White.”

Because, while coronavirus vaccines are more broadly available in Florida today just as they are nationally, DeSantis’ earliest efforts, particularly his high-profile visits to the opening of “pop-up” vaccine clinics around the state, favored wealthier, whiter communities — which also happen to be his voting base.

“I’m 71 years old, and I haven’t been able to get one,” said Willie Smith, a Black retired truck driver and Air Force veteran, during a visit to Little Buddy’s Neighborhood Store to pick up some lottery tickets. “I’ve been trying to go online, but I haven’t been able to get one. They’re always full.”

Smith’s bad luck was to live in a poor part of Bradenton rather than a dozen miles west in Lakewood Ranch, a brand-new housing development where the median household income is $106,000 — nearly twice that of Manatee County as a whole and quadruple that of Smith’s neighborhood. DeSantis staged a photo opportunity at Lakewood Ranch’s Premier Sports Complex in February, bringing 3,000 doses with him, for the exclusive benefit of residents of the two zip codes that make up the development.

Another “pop-up” clinic was set up at a golf course retirement community near Punta Gorda, in southwest Florida’s Charlotte County, that was built by a major donor. Still another was set up for The Villages, the famously Republican retirement community near Ocala.

And a clinic was even arranged for 1,200 residents in Key Largo’s Ocean Reef Club, an exclusive enclave of multi-million dollar homes, many with their own docks with quick access to the Atlantic. According to reporting by the Miami Herald, the hospital providing the vaccine doses for that clinic had to cancel hundreds of appointments already made for other people, including those with underlying health problems.

It’s almost like if you’re not a contributor, you don’t exist. It’s like he can’t see you.Charlie Crist, former Republican governor and current Democratic congressman
Even DeSantis’ efforts in January to partner exclusively with the Publix grocery store chain contributed to the racial and socioeconomic disparity in vaccinations. While the Florida-based company — which is also a major DeSantis donor — has more pharmacies than any other chain in the state, it has also purposefully targeted middle-class to wealthy neighborhoods in Florida over the decades, leaving poorer areas to competitors like Winn-Dixie and Food Lion. Other chains only began offering vaccines in February as part of the federal retail pharmacy program.

“It’s actually as bad as it looks,” said Tracy Pratt, chair of the Manatee County Democrats. “We have a lot of vulnerable people who have been shut in, and they were angry that people who had access through a wealthy developer got theirs first.”

DeSantis has scoffed at such critiques, typically with base-pleasing attacks on the news media. The governor and his office claim that wealth and race played no role in his vaccine rollout and point out that the first locations to get clinics were retirement communities in Democrat-rich Broward and Palm Beach counties.

Actual statistics say otherwise. According to an exhaustive analysis of vaccine and demographic data by the USA Today Network of Florida newspapers, Floridians 65 and older in the richest third of the counties had been vaccinated at a rate 4 percentage points higher than the rest of the state. What’s more, the better access for the rich has resulted in just 6.4% of the state’s vaccines going to African Americans, although they account for 17% of the state’s population.

I'm disabled vet and my mom is 84 she and my sister had to try everyday till the beginning of March to get her a appointment. I was lucky the VA sent me a email asking me to sign up to get mine it took only two days I get my second shot tomorrow. My sister is still trying. We live in port Charlotte area have 6 publix within 10 miles. So even though DeSantis isn't the smartest cookie in the bunch. But it had nothing to do with black or white. But now it is getting better. So call the VA and get your shot..

So, when one looks at the infection and death rates for Florida and the infection and death rates for the US, one can't help but note that Florida is literally mirroring the US in terms of infections and deaths.

For liberals, that means Florida is doing no better, and NO WORSE than the rest of the country.
    Same for the vaccination rates.

So we can only conclude that the twirling and spew about Florida and its "RAGING" increase in virus infections, and the suggestion that Desantis is racist, is caused because a report came out saying Florida governor Desantis is a front runner for President in 2024.

The mortality for black residents in Florida is 149.5 per 100,000.

The mortality rate for white residents in Florida is 150.5 per 100,000

The black mortality rate for the nation is 215 per 100,000.

There is a good article on News 4 jax about how the governor worked with local churches in black communities to set up pop up vaccination sites.

    Oh, hell no!
Now Ivanka, maybe. But only if she runs as a despicable against Chelsea Clinton who runs as a deplorable.

Could you imagine the strokes and heart attacks the hard core despicables would have when Trump stood up on the dias with Ivanka while she accepted the nomination?
And the deplorable strokes and heart attacks when Hillary and Bill stood up there with Chelsea as she accepted the deplorable nomination?

Cmon man, lets dream a little!

'Total insanity': Florida blasted for concluding voters can't legalize recreational marijuana

    Facebook.

The Florida Supreme Court was blasted on Thursday for a controversial ruling to overturn the will of Sunshine State voters.

"On Thursday, the Florida Supreme Court—probably the most conservative state high court in the country–concluded that the state's voters could not be trusted with a ballot initiative that would legalize recreational marijuana for adults. By a 5–2 vote, the court tossed out the initiative, denying Florida residents the opportunity to vote on it. To justify its action, the majority seized upon a dubious rationale: It asserted that the ballot summary implies that the initiative will somehow legalize marijuana under federal law, rendering it "affirmatively misleading." Because of this putative defect, the court denied Floridians an opportunity to repeal state laws banning recreational weed," Slate legal reporter Mark Joseph Stern reported.

"The campaign to liberalize Florida's marijuana laws has long pitted the people against state officials. For years, the Republicans in the state legislature and governor's mansion refused to expand access to cannabis. In 2016, Floridians took the matter into their own hands, legalizing medical marijuana through a ballot initiative amending the state constitution that passed with more than 71 percent of the vote. Former Republican Gov. Rick Scott, abetted by GOP state legislators, attempted to gut this new law by strictly limiting qualifying conditions for the drug and banning smokable marijuana. A court blocked that ban, and the legislature eventually repealed it," Stern explained.

"Seizing this momentum, cannabis reform advocates launched a new ballot initiative to legalize recreational marijuana for all adults over the age of 21. As of Thursday, the initiative's sponsor had raised $8.2 million and collected more than 556,000 signatures out of the 891,589 needed to get on the ballot in 2022. Its strong support at this early date indicated a real possibility that the initiative would cross the 60 percent threshold necessary to amend the state constitution. But as its proponents were collecting signatures, Attorney General Ashley Moody, a Republican, asked the Florida Supreme Court to weigh in on the measure's legality," he explained.

"It seems as if the majority is offended by the notion of legalizing marijuana under state law while it remains illegal under federal statute, and worked its way back from that conviction. But that is not the Florida Supreme Court's decision to make; it is supposed to be the choice of the voters," Stern wrote. "Then again, Florida Republicans are not very friendly to self-governance through ballot initiative. In recent years, they have placed heavy new burdens on this process in an effort to restrict the number of proposed amendments that reach the ballot. This drive is motivated in part by the success of a ballot initiative restoring voting rights to people convicted of felonies, which the legislature opposed and then eviscerated. Thursday's decision may be a byproduct of Republican hostility toward the initiative process as much as it is a consequence of five conservative justices' distaste for marijuana reform. Whatever the motivation, the bottom line is clear: The Florida Supreme Court does not trust the state's voters to govern themselves."

'Fascist' Ron DeSantis burned to the ground by Florida reporter for his latest Trump-like move

    Tom Boggioni
    April 26, 2021

    (Gage Skidmore/Flickr)

In a scorching column in the Miami Herald, Fabiola Santiago brutally called out Florida Gov. Don DeSantis (R) for the latest piece of legislation that he has signed which she called just another step down the path to fascism as he sets himself up for a White House run in 2024.

As the columnist notes, DeSantis has signed a bill he demanded that would, in essence, criminalize protesting in direct contravention of the U.S. Constitution.

Santiago notes, "Florida lawmakers have assaulted and trampled the U.S. Constitution during this legislative session like the state hasn't seen since Jim Crow days. Every bill, every strategy was already cooked, party-ready, at the behest of the state's maximum leader, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis," before adding, "DeSantis is, after all, channeling his political mentor, Donald Trump, and following his bombastic, destructive script to reelection next year, and onward, to the White House in 2024, perhaps."

Focusing on the bill, the columnist notes that any Floridian caught up in a protest against DeSantis's polices --or malfeasance by the police -- could quickly find themselves in jail without bail for "rioting."

Writing "DeSantis and his enablers turn the Constitution into a pliable document, chipped away by legislating at the state level in order to win elections, then so be it," the columnist added, "If, in the process, DeSantis quacks like a racist, that's just the price of doing business with the base."

Pointing out that DeSantis "surrounded by more than a dozen white men and women" signed the bill as America awaited the verdict in the Derek Chauvin case, Santiago explained that the state can expect to be hauled into court as civil rights attorneys have a field day challenging the law.

"Without an ounce of sensitivity, DeSantis assaults the rights of Floridians to protest, presiding over a major crackdown on free speech, delivered by the acquiescent, overwhelmingly Republican Legislature via the HB 1 bill — their No. 1 priority after more than a year of a pandemic. Coming in a close second: voter suppression," she accused. "Who's going to go to a protest knowing that if a few protesters get violent or more rowdy than police feel like tolerating — and you get caught in the melee — you'll be carted off to jail, charged with a felony and held without bail like a murderer? What low-income minority resident who works — and they're the ones holding down essential jobs tied to a schedule — is going to risk losing a job to stand in hours-long lines when they find themselves without a mail-in ballot?"

"In his quest for absolute power, the Ivy League-educated governor, a lawyer, forgets the law of the land isn't that of his scribes in the Legislature, but the document signed on Sept. 17, 1787. Bring on the civil-rights lawyers," she wrote before concluding. "Florida needs them to show the governor who's boss."

You can read the whole piece here.

The only way treasonous conservative/Republicans can stay in power is to lie, cheat, and steal elections and turn true traitors to the United States of America and everything it has ever stood for since the Constitution was ratified.

Democrats fume over silence from DeSantis on Florida election

But DeSantis, an arch-conservative and close ally of former President Trump, has not so much as hinted at when he could call a special election, stirring speculation among Democrats that he may be trying to keep the seat open for as long as possible. DeSantis’s office did not respond to an email seeking comment on the special election.
