The smoking/vaping age was already raised by the federal government. Florida just changed the law to mirror the federal laws.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signs bill limiting local governments to impose gun regulations
Supporters say law is meant to protect Second Amendment rights, takes effect July 1

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Amid a legal battle that could be decided by the Florida Supreme Court, Gov. Ron DeSantis has signed a measure that will ratchet up a ban on local gun regulations.

DeSantis signed the bill (SB 1884) on Friday after the Republican-controlled Legislature passed it in party-line votes late last month. The bill, which will take effect July 1, will broaden a 2011 law that can make local governments pay as much as $100,000 in damages if they are sued for imposing gun regulations.

Florida since 1987 has barred cities and counties from passing regulations that are stricter than state firearms laws, and the penalties in the 2011 law were designed to strengthen that “preemption.”

Rep. Cord Byrd, a Neptune Beach Republican who was the House sponsor of the bill signed Friday, said during an April 28 floor debate that the measure is needed to protect Second Amendment rights. He said the bill is designed to “send a message” to local governments.

“I brought this forward so that local governments will once and for all stop violating the rights and stop wasting taxpayer money,” said Byrd, an attorney who represents gun owners.

But Democrats argued that cities and counties should not be punished for trying to curb gun violence and recounted incidents such as the 2016 mass shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando.

“If the state doesn’t want to take any action against the gun lobby, stop prohibiting local governments from doing that,” Rep. Anna Eskamani, D-Orlando said during the debate.

DeSantis signed the bill about a month after a panel of the 1st District Court of Appeal upheld the 2011 law that threatens penalties if cities and counties approve gun regulations. Dozens of local governments and officials challenged the 2011 law after the February 2018 mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland that killed 17 people.

Under the 2011 law, local governments can be forced to pay up to $100,000 in damages and attorney fees if they are found to have violated the 1987 preemption on gun regulations. Also, local officials can face $5,000 fines and potential removal from office for passing gun regulations.

The bill signed Friday will broaden the law in two ways: It will allow lawsuits for “unwritten” local policies that violate the gun-regulation preemption. Also, local governments could still be forced to pay damages and attorney fees if they change gun-related ordinances or policies after lawsuits are filed --- a change that could block arguments about the mootness of lawsuits.

There are no further Govt requirements to wear a mask in Florida ! Private Business can do what they want and make you wear one, or leave the store ! At least in Florida the same rule applies that a bakery doesn't have to make a cake for a gay wedding. Private Business can choose who they do or do not want to serve, as it should be!

Gov. Ron DeSantis: Vast Majority of New Floridians Back GOP

    OAN Newsroom
    UPDATED 8:43 AM PT – Friday, May 28, 2021

Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) announced voters from all over the U.S. are flocking to Florida to enjoy their constitutional freedoms.

The governor also mentioned that an overwhelming majority of new Floridians have been registering to vote as Republicans. Even former Democrat voters are registering as Republicans following their move to the Sunshine State.

Florida has been enjoying a massive economic boom since lifting all COVID-19 restrictions and outlawing future government mandates. According to the state’s Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis, around 900 people are moving to Florida per day.

While the rate of people moving to Florida has been rising for years, the Sunshine State has seen a boom since the pandemic because of the ease on restrictions. Throughout the pandemic, DeSantis was one of few governors determined to keep the economy open despite constantly being blasted by Democrats for doing so. Many Floridians have expressed enthusiasm about their economic prospects.

DeSantis went on to declare that lockdowns and economic slumps in Democrat run states were the reasons why many new Floridians turned into staunch Republicans. He added, most people are able to see through the lies the Democrat media reports and are tired of it.

You would be wrong T1, I've lived in Florida for over 30 years! Florida used to vote Blue, then they became purple, After useless Senator Nelson was defeated, Florida is full blown RED. Its the New York/Jersey Republican's moving here that keeps making it Redder. You will be all right if you move here!

Ron DeSantis Cheered Like a Rockstar at Massive Concert With Pointed Shot at Fauci
By Nick Arama | Jun 07, 2021 9:30 PM ET

Democrats might want to take a look at this one.

Because this shows just how much trouble they are in with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. They’ve done all they could, inventing different ways to attack him, it seems, every week. But it only seems to be helping to build him up more and feeding his profile to the Republican base.

That showed, clearly when he was called out on stage last night at Panama City Beach, at the 2021 Gulf Coast Jam. The concert was supposed to be last Labor Day but was delayed because of the pandemic. It’s now the largest concert held in the country since the start of the pandemic, with an estimated 22,000 people.

    From WTSP:

“It’s the first major, over 20,000 people in population event that I’m aware of, that Billboard Magazine is aware of and that Rolling Stone Magazine is aware of (in the U.S. since COVID-19),” Gulf Coast Jam producer Rendy Lovelady told the Panama City News Herald. “After this weekend, it’s a house of cards and they just fall everywhere. There (will be) thousands of them across the country.”

That sounds like a pretty good prediction, with all kinds of restrictions continuing to fall.

Masks were optional at the event that, in addition to DeSantis, featured headliners Lynyrd Skynyrd, Brad Paisley and Luke Bryan.

When DeSantis was announced, he was greeted with raucous cheers, from what looked like a largely young audience. That should especially worry the Democrats.

“Florida chose freedom over Fauci-ism,” DeSantis told the crowd. “My message for other states and other countries: open your states, open your schools, let people live their lives, don’t make them wear masks.”

Talk about a message one can cheer for, that’s it and it feels like the country is coming out of its long pandemic sleep.

Last week, DeSantis called for accountability from government officials and Dr. Fauci in regard to their actions during the pandemic, especially in regard to issues raised by the Fauci emails. Another long-needed message that we need to hear from more officials in government.

If DeSantis can keep putting forth clear and consistent messages, and pull an audience like this, he’s going to be tough to beat.

Psst! I guess you didn't hear that her entire story was a lie and she never even had access to the case count data - nowhere near it.
Is this just being ignorant, or is it the old Libtard ploy of repeating what you know is a lie?

Report: Red states leading economic recovery after COVID recession

    OAN Newsroom
    UPDATED 4:25 PM PT – Thursday, June 10, 2021

Red state economies are bouncing back following a recession caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Data collected by Moody’s Analytics and CNN Business shows states that didn’t impose lockdowns or quickly rolled back restrictions, outperformed states that kept them in place.

The economies in South Dakota and Florida are doing even better now than they were before the pandemic. This comes as Gov. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) decided to go against issuing a lockdown order last spring. Furthermore, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) was one of the first governors to remove COVID-19 restrictions.

“We will never do any of these lockdowns again, and I hear people say they’ll shut down the country, and honestly, I cringe,” said DeSantis. He went on to say that lockdowns only delay the inevitable and create more problems.

Other states like Nebraska and Idaho are performing at pre-pandemic levels. Additionally, West Virginia, Nevada, Montana, Iowa and Arizona aren’t too far behind.

Meanwhile, blue states that imposed strict lockdowns are lagging behind in economic recovery, which includes higher unemployment rates.
