Here are 5 disturbing bombshells from a new book on Trump's 'rudderless' pandemic response

President Donald Trump looks on as White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Dr. Deborah Birx delivers remarks during a coronavirus update briefing (AFP)

The United States recently passed yet another grim milestone in the 2020/2021 pandemic when Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore reported that the COVID-19 death count had passed 600,000 in the United States. Nonetheless, there is reason for optimism where the pandemic is concerned. Around 65% of U.S. adults, according to the New York Times, have been at least partially vaccinated for COVID-19, and President Joe Biden — who has been promoting vaccination aggressively — hopes to get that number up to 70% by July 4. Biden obviously takes the pandemic much more seriously than former President Donald Trump, who repeatedly downplayed its severity in 2020.

Trump's dysfunctional response to the worst global health crisis in more than 100 years is the focus of a new book by Washington Port reporters Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta: "Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration's Response to the Pandemic That Changed History," which Post reporter Dan Diamond discusses in detail in an article published on June 21. Here are five bombshells in the book, according to Diamond.

    1. Trump wanted to quarantine infected Americans at Guantánamo Bay

Guantánamo Bay, Cuba is where is where the Bush Administration kept suspected terrorists following the 9/11 attacks. And it is also where, according to Abutaleb and Paletta, Trump wanted to keep Americans who tested positive for COVID-19. In February 2020, Abutaleb and Paletta report, Trump asked aides, "Don't we have an island that we own? What about Guantánamo?"

    2. Kushner had a meltdown after learning about a delay in mask shipments

In late March 2020, according to Abutaleb and Paletta, Robert Kadlec — preparedness chief at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services — informed then-White House Senior Adviser Jared Kushner that there would be a delay in shipments of protective face masks, which wouldn't be available until June. And Kushner reportedly became unglued, shouting at Kadlec, "You fucking moron! We'll all be dead by June!"

    3. Trump feared that COVID-19 testing would cause him to lose the election

In March 2020, the month in which the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 to be a global pandemic, the United States wasn't doing nearly as much testing as it should have been. But Trump, according to Abutaleb and Paletta, believed the U.S. was doing too much — and his reason was entirely political. Trump, during a March 18, 2020 phone conversation with then-Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, reportedly shouted, "Testing is killing me! I'm going to lose the election because of testing! What idiot had the federal government do testing?"

    4. No one knew exactly who was in charge of Trump's COVID-19 response

Trump had two separate COVID-19 task forces in 2020: a White House task force led by then-Vice President Mike Pence, and a task force led by Kushner that focused on private sector efforts in response to the pandemic. According to Abutaleb and Paletta, the Trump Administration's COVID-19 response was so chaotic that it was hard to know who exactly was in charge.

In their book, Abutaleb and Paletta, "One of the biggest flaws in the Trump Administration's response is that no one was in charge of the response. Was it (Dr. Deborah) Birx, the task force coordinator? Was it Pence, head of the task force? Was it Trump, the boss? Was it Kushner, running the shadow task force until he wasn't? Was it Marc Short or Mark Meadows, often at odds, rarely in sync? Ultimately, there was no accountability, and the response was rudderless."

    5. Mark Meadows berated a top HHS official

After former Rep. Mark Meadows replaced Mick Mulvaney as White House chief of staff, he became — according to Abutaleb and Paletta — a source of misery for Kadlec. When there was a delay with the rollout of remdesivir (a drug used to treat COVID-19), Meadows reportedly screamed at Kadlec, "I'm going to fire your ass if you can't fix this." According to Abutaleb and Paletta, "That was what the response had turned into: a toxic environment in which no matter where you turned, someone was ready to rip your head off or threatening to fire you."

Almost 900 Secret Service Agents Got COVID Under Trump, Records Show

Between March 1, 2020 and March 9, 2021, 881 Secret Service members tested positive for COVID-19, according to government records obtained by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington. The majority were either Special Agents or in the Uniformed Division. During the first year of the pandemic, then-President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence went against public health guidelines at the time, holding large-scale rallies and multiple trips with Secret Service protection. When the number of cases was surging in December, Pence took a ski trip to Vail, putting at least 48 agents at risk, according to CREW.

An inquiry by staff to investigate COVID policies within the Secret Service was reportedly blocked by DHS Inspector General, Joseph Cuffari, a Trump appointee. CREW states that because of the Inspector General’s unwillingness to look into the matter, it’s impossible to know how many agents contracted COVID-19 because of the Trump administration’s refusal to follow guidelines. However, it appears that the number of positive cases was far higher than the government previously reported.

    Read it at CREW

At present the infection rate of covid is roughly 10%.
The secret service has just shy of 9,000 employees, 4,500 of them officers or agents. The story doesn't indicate for sure if only sworn agents/officers were counted in the 900 or if all secret service employees were counted.

None the less, the conclusion is that trump still lives rent free in despicables heads.

Trump was in real danger of dying and on a 'dizzying' array of meds to keep him alive after catching COVID: report

An explosive new excerpt from a book about former President Donald Trump's handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic claims that he was far more ill than the White House let on, and was put on a "dizzying" array of medications to keep him alive.

The new book, titled "Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration's Response to the Pandemic That Changed History," was written by Washington Post reporters Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta, and is due to be released on June 29th.

In an excerpt of the book published in the Washington Post Thursday, it is revealed that Trump's blood oxygen level after catching COVID-19 last year fell below 90 percent, which is the point at which the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends immediately starting oxygen therapy.

In addition to starting oxygen therapy, Abutaleb and Paletta write that "Trump's doctors threw everything they could at the virus all at once," including monoclonal antibodies, antiviral drug remdesivir, and the steroid dexamethasone, which the reporters note "is usually administered if someone is extremely ill."

The bottom line, Abutaleb and Paletta report, is that "the president was on a dizzying array of emergency medicines by now — all at once."

The bottom line is Trump is a criminal of epic proportions, which you choose to ignore, and you loft him to the point where he runs your political party.

That's why he's still relevant. You guys love him blindly!

Hare-brained Jared Kushner scheme massively backfired at crucial phase during pandemic: new book

    Jared Kushner (Time)

The authors of a new book about former President Donald Trump's handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic are spilling additional details about Trump son-in-law Jared Kushner's role in mismanaging the public health crisis.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, Washington Post reporters Damian Paletta and Yasmine Abutaleb explain how one of Kushner's big initiatives at the start of the pandemic actually backfired and slowed down the national response to the deadly disease that has claimed the lives of more than 600,000 Americans.

The initiative in question was a plan to use big-name pharmacies like CVS and Walgreen's as drive-through testing sites to make it easier for Americans to get quick COVID-19 test results.

"When he came in and wanted to launch that initiative, he actually caused a two-week shortage of testing because all the swabs and a lot of the personal protective equipment had been diverted to this drive-thru site," Abutaleb explained.

Abutaleb and Paletta's book, titled "Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration's Response to the Pandemic That Changed History," goes on sale today.

It's relevant when you're trying to divert attention away from what makes your party look bad.

@anon_de_plume Sure the Democrats are pathetic corporate fascists. But, that is waaaay better than an ongoing criminal enterprise calling itself a political party. I’m only a Dem by necessity. If I haven’t escaped this country to a first world nation by 2024, I probably will vote People’s party. Depending on their nominee of course.

I agree! There's a reason the founding fathers kept corporations on a very short leash! Read gangs of America ( http://www.gangsofamerica.com/ ), it will make you understand why the revolutionary was was actually fought against corporations (under the sanction of the British crown). Hence why they have worked tirelessly to corrupt our government. The People must start paying attention.

There was even another case of treason when Trump came down with COVID. For the national security of the country Pence should have been briefed and temporarily sworn in to assume the duties of president. But even though Trump was incapicated he refused to do that and left the country at risk.

While he got the best treatments in the world at a government run hospital.

Trump hung up on Alex Azar when he tried to warn of 'extremely dangerous' COVID-19 in January 2020: book

Donald Trump swears in Alex Azar as HHS secretary (White House/screen grab)

An explosive new book about former President Donald Trump's handling of the novel coronavirus pandemic claims that he hung up on his own Health and Human Services chief when he tried to warn him about COVID-19.

The Daily Mail reports that Washington Post reporters Yasmeen Abutaleb and Damian Paletta claim in their new book that former HHS Secretary Alex Azar first tried to alert Trump to the potential dangers of the virus in January 2020, when it was alarming public health officials by ripping through the Chinese city of Wuhan.

"Mr. President, I've got to tell you something," Azar said, according to the book. "There's this new virus out of China that could be extremely dangerous. It could be the kind of thing we have been preparing for and worried about."

Trump, however, was more interested in berating Azar about new HHS regulations of flavored e-cigarettes, which Trump worried could cost him votes in the 2020 presidential election.

Azar again tried to warn Trump about the virus and the need to take safety precautions in screening international travelers.

"Yeah, okay," Trump reportedly replied -- then abruptly hung up on Azar.

Abutaleb and Paletta's book, titled "Nightmare Scenario: Inside the Trump Administration's Response to the Pandemic That Changed History," went on sale this week.

Traitor Trump and his treasonous conservative/Republicans have been trying for months to try and misdirect attention from Trump and his administration killing half a million Americans. But its not going to work. It does not matter what Dr Fauci or China did. If we grant the most extreme conspiracy theory, that China deliberately released the virus to attack the US, then Trump was the biggest ally they had and did everything he could to spread the virus as far and wide as possible and make sure it killed as many Americans as possible by constantly lying to the American people and making masks and now even vaccines a political issue instead of a health issue.

Democrats nail GOP obsession with COVID-19 lab leak theory: Nothing can excuse Trump's 'lethal recklessness'

"Regardless of how it started, no origin can excuse the lethal recklessness of Donald Trump's mismanagement of COVID-19 -- nothing," said Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), a member of the House's Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. "Presidents have a responsibility to protect public health regardless of the origin of a public health crisis."
