The problem faced by Matt and Margery is that Trumpism is not scalable. They tried to take Trumplite on the road and fell short. While Trump can still rent a hall, they can't. Hotel owners own a television, and with a TV in every room, certainly more than average. This means they've had plenty of time to watch the January 6th attack on the Capitol. They don't want that crowd in their hotel. It's like the Fort Lauderdale hotels that won't take springbreak reservations from certain college towns.

Right now, the GOP is looking from side to side, wondering who is going to still be standing by the next Convention. They know Trump will not be seen. He'll either be pouting in Mar Lago or in prison. It doesn't matter.

The real question for them is, does Trump's endorsement matter? It might, but it also might drive GOP candidates to try and out Trump each other, which pushes middle ground voters to the Democrats, who find it easy to sound moderate and sensible.
