Do you like cornbread? If so, how do you like it? If not, why?

 

With honey on top.. haven't had any for a long time though.

 

I grew up eating sweet cornbread with actual corn in it. That’s not typical in the southern US but my parents are from Indiana. My mom never made cornbread dress but I like it a lot. She made oyster dressing out of chopped up toast with lots of sage. I miss it at thanksgiving.

 

I refuse to eat sweetened cornbread. I like it from a cast iron skillet, brown and crispy on the bottom and sides. Depending on my mood, I'll add shredded cheese, diced onion, chopped peppers, or other ingredients (use your imagination, it's very versatile) to the batter mix to cook into the cornbread.

I like cornbread with beans, chili, hot and buttered with honey, soups, gravies, and with buttermilk.

 

As a Brit living in the UK I've always wondered, what the hell is cornbread?

Never had any. I suspect I might like it, but I’d have to actually make it myself to get any, and I wouldn’t know if I made it right

 

I Love cornbread - hot, cut in two and lathered with butter.
Knew a guy from Louisiana once who ate it that way, but with syrup on top. I'll stick pancakes and waffles for that.

 

Hot with plain butter! I've had it served with honey butter at restaurants, but I prefer plain butter.

 

I like a Thick slice of Cornbread with a big bowl of Texas Red Chili.

i like Marie Calendar's cornbread first and Krusteaz cornbread second. I would love to smoother a piece in butter and honey, but my hips don't like butter and honey, so I just eat it as is, usually with chili or homemade chicken soap.

Sometimes he likes sweet cornbread but most often he's a dutch oven cornbread kind of fellow.

On the river shooter did the cornbread when it was chicken night and he developed something of a reputation on the river for his most excellent cornbread.

He could tell his secret for river cornbread but then he'd have to drown everyone.

 

Love some good cornbread with chili or just as it comes from the skillet, topped with butter.

My mother made her version of johnnycake, which was very similar to southern cornbread.

 

My sister-in-law was from Hattiesburg, MS, a southern girl through and through. When she cooked, she measured nothing, watching her making cornbread was like watching a artist create a masterpiece. Iron skillet in the oven until it was super hot, when her lard ladened batter hit that hot iron it went to sizzling instantly. Back into the oven without a timer, she said she could smell when it was done.

 

I love cornbread hot with lots of butter melting into it. I like it either sweet or regular.

Not a fan. I'll stick to biscuits and sausage gravy, chicken fried steak, gumbo...

Damn. Now I'm hungry.

 

It was said my mom made the best cornbread. It was from scratch, she never used the boxed stuff, but I don't like cornbread except on other people's plates.
