A Florida radio host who is connected to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) has pleaded guilty in a deal that could see him give evidence against the controversial congressman in a sex-trafficking investigation.

Sources told The Daily Beast that “Big Joe” Ellicott pleaded guilty in federal court to a plot to “pay bribes and kickbacks.” He also pleaded guilty to a separate crime related to illegally selling Adderall.

Ellicott is the best friend of Joel Greenberg, a former "wingman" of Gaetz who is said to be cooperating in the sex-trafficking investigation.

It was reported last year that Ellicott knows "intimate details" of a relationship Gaetz and Greenberg allegedly had with a 17-year-old girl. For his part, Gaetz has denied having sex with the girl.

The report indicated that Ellicott's plea deal requires him to cooperate in other ongoing investigations. In exchange, he will have an opportunity to receive a significantly reduced sentence.

The Daily Beast is reported that a witness who is cooperating with prosecutors can confirm that Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) was told by former "wingman" Joel Greenberg that he'd had sex with an underage girl.

According to the Daily Beast's sources, the witness was in the same room with Greenberg when he called Gaetz and informed him that a woman they had paid for sex was under the age of 18.

The witness in question is talk radio host “Big Joe” Ellicott, who earlier this week pleaded guilty to charges of paying bribes and kickbacks, as well as illegally selling Adderall.

"While the sources did not know whether Ellicott had discussed the call with investigators, his account would likely be of critical interest, since it would match a key claim Greenberg made separately in a confession letter," The Daily Beast writes.

Ellicott is not the only potentially incriminating witness Gaetz has to worry about, as a grand jury earlier this month heard sworn testimony from one of Gaetz's former girlfriends, who was granted immunity in exchange for testifying.

Florida GOP Congressman Matt Gaetz got more "bad news" this week about an ongoing federal investigation into whether he sex-trafficked a minor, according to Palm Beach County State Attorney Dave Aronberg.

On Wednesday, the Daily Beast reported that a cooperating witness — “Big Joe” Ellicott— was present during a 2017 phone call Gaetz received from his "wingman," Joel Greenberg, allegedly alerting the congressman that he'd had sex with an underage girl. Elllicott is the longtime best friend of Greenberg, who is also cooperating with investigators.

"It's bad news for Matt Gaetz," Aronberg told MSNBC on Thursday night. "I think he thought that because there was a delay in this case, it was taking forever, that there was light at the end of the tunnel, but it turns out that the light was just an oncoming train."

"This is bad for him, but I think it's worse that the ex-girlfriend testified before the grand jury," Aronberg added, referring to another recent bombshell in the case.

"She really is the linchpin between Matt Gaetz and child sex trafficking and the Mann Act, which says you can't transport individuals across state and federal Ines for the purposes of prostitution, and witness tampering," Aronberg said.

MSNBC host Ari Melber asked why Ellicott's secondhand account of Greenberg's phone call to Gaetz is important if investigators "have underlying better actual evidence, rather than just discussion."

"The feds don't want their key witnesses to just be Joel Greenberg, who is a walking criminal enterprise, and the then 17-year-old girl, who lied about her age, and had a profile on SeekingArangements.com, and then became an adult film star," Aronberg responded. "And not to bash anyone's choice of profession, but let me tell you, juries don't like that profile."

"So they're looking for corroboration, and I think that's why this whole thing has been taking so long, and now they have someone who was in the room when it happened — at least the room where the phone call happened," Aronberg said.

"And why is Joel Greenberg calling Matt Gaetz with 'mayday, mayday' because he just found out that this girl was underage? Well, you can then surmise that it's because they both were with this girl inappropriately," Aronberg said. "But the key witness here is the ex-girlfriend, who has no ax to grind with Matt Gaetz. They had an open relationship. She doesn't have major credibility issues. She used to be a Capitol Hill staffer, and she could be the key witness, because when you go before a grand jury, it's not a place for minor details, but it is a place for details about minors."

Matt Gaetz and Marjorie Taylor Greene’s PAC has ‘all but officially gone bust’: report

A political action committee launched last year by MAGA Reps. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) and Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) received only one contribution in the last quarter of 2021 — from Gaetz himself.

The Daily Beast reported Tuesday that Gaetz and Green's PAC, called "Put America First," has "all but officially gone bust."

"The two right-wing bomb-throwers never really made money from the jump," the Daily Beast reported. "Everything they took in went right back out the door. But their final quarter in 2021 was notably bad."

The PAC's only contribution in the last three months — a $18,922 transfer from Gaetz’s campaign — "appears to have been necessary to pay off the PAC’s final outstanding obligations," the Daily Beast reported, adding that the PAC "has no money left."

After creating the PAC, Gaetz and Greene launched an "America First" tour, but multiple venues canceled their rallies last summer, prompting the two lawmakers to stage a protest in California.

Gaetz has also been struggling to raise money for his own campaign due to the ongoing federal investigation into whether he sex-trafficked a minor, the Daily Beast reported.

"After two breakneck fundraising quarters to kick off 2021, his campaign committee, Friends of Matt Gaetz, ended with a $94,838.65 loss on the year," the site reported. "Those first six months saw record fundraising for the three-term Republican, and it likely would have been a banner year if it weren’t for the investigation, which is examining whether Gaetz sex-trafficked a 17-year-old girl, illegally paid for sex, obstructed justice, violated the Mann Act, and played a role in an allegedly corrupt political influence campaign—and additionally whether his campaign broke the law in furthering any of those possible crimes."

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — A former Florida tax collector whose arrest led to a federal probe into U.S. Rep. Matt Gaetz wants a judge to delay his sentencing scheduled for next month for yet another time as he continues to cooperate with federal prosecutors.

Joel Greenberg's attorney on Friday asked a federal judge in Orlando, Florida, to allow him to file a motion seeking a delay in the sentencing hearing currently scheduled for March 29. U.S. District Judge Gregory Presnell previously granted two delays.

In court papers, Greenberg's attorney said his client had been cooperating with federal prosecutors in Orlando and Washington in active investigations.

Attorney Fritz Scheller said he intended to file a motion outlining the reasons for the extension but that it contained “sensitive" information about the investigations, as well as Greenberg's cooperation. Because of the confidential nature of that information, that request and any subsequent hearing should be sealed and kept out of the public eye, Scheller said in the court papers.

The judge later on Friday granted the request to seal the motion asking for a delay.

Greenberg is facing up to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty last May to six federal crimes, including sex trafficking of a child, identity theft, stalking, wire fraud and conspiracy to bribe a public official.

Greenberg’s plea agreement with prosecutors requires continued cooperation with an ongoing probe into sex trafficking. His cooperation could play a role in an ongoing investigation into Gaetz, a Republican friend of his who represents much of the Florida Panhandle. Gaetz was accused of paying a 17-year-old girl for sex. He has denied the allegations and previously said they were part of an extortion plot.

While speaking out in favor of a bill that would end mandatory arbitration for workplace sexual harassment cases, scandal-plagued Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) talked about the importance of holding sex offenders accountable.

During a speech on the House floor Monday, Gaetz explained why he was one of the few Republicans in support of this particular measure.

"Here is the question presented: Should sexual harassers who work for big businesses get to pick their juries in advance?" Gaetz asked rhetorically. "I believe that the populist, nationalist right approach is to believe that the Article 3 courts, that we have set up for any and all, function as the proper venue. But for tens of millions of American workers, that courthouse door is locked!"

Gaetz added that corporations have a distinct advantage when it comes to arbitration hearings, and that "shouldn't be a reason that someone is more likely to have to endure sexual harassment in the workplace, or more likely, to evade consequence as a result of predatory behavior."

Gaetz at the moment is facing a criminal investigation into whether he potentially paid for sex with a girl who was at the time under the legal age of 18.
