No, they said, the average American has nothing to fear from us, we aren't coming after anyone making less than $400,000 a year (course, when pressed to back up their declaration they refused and voted down a bill that would prohibit targeting Americans with less than $400,000 a year in earnings).

Well, bullshit is what Shooter says.
First, what the hell do they think 87,000 (Fire breathing) IRS auditors are going to do all day? You know, once they've audited the 4% of top earning American households, you know, the ones reporting at least $200,000 in annual income?
Well, first, the IRS pundits think those (Fire breathing) auditors will manage to collect $1TRILLION in new tax revenue.
Imagine that.

And here's what Shooter thinks will develop.
All those new agents will need to justify their presence. They'll be expected to audit so many returns in so many hours and find so much in lost/avoided taxes.
Does anyone really think they're going to lockstep the rules?
Shooter doesn't.
He thinks agents will decide "this fuck makes more than me and paid XX in taxes. Well, fuck that, he can afford another $20,000 in taxes and just defer buying that Ferrari.

And "that fuck", he'll say to himself, "we all know this is bullshit, and we all know this is just a shake down, and we all know if we fought this bullshit in court we'd prevail. But it will cost more than $20,000 to fight the IRS, so really what we're talking about here is principal."
And chances are, they'll cave and pay or maybe negotiate and get the bill down to $15K or maybe even $10K.

So who cares right, none of us makes $400,000 a year, let the IRS manhandle those rich fucks. They can afford it.

You forget though, that 87,000 (fire breathing) agents will go through the top 1% in short order.
And then they'll need something else to do.

And that's when, if you make, say $100,000 a year, you can bend over and take it in the ass just like those rich fucks did.
Only, you won't have the luxury of fighting on principal, cause Shooter would bet you don't have an extra $10-$20,000 to hire a tax lawyer to do battle for you.

Macron meets Biden. French President Emmanuel Macron arrives in the United States today for a state visit, as the two countries seek to put the diplomatic fallout from the AUKUS deal behind them.

A senior French official who spoke on condition of anonymity described the state visit as a “really important confirmation of both our oldest alliance and also a strategic partnership in the world of today and tomorrow” and a “politically important symbol.” Speaking at the White House on Monday, National Security Council Spokesperson John Kirby described the visit as “an opportunity to highlight a foundational component of this administration’s foreign policy, and that’s through alliances.”

The visit is expected to focus on a range of shared strategic challenges, including the war in Ukraine, as well as the two countries’ cooperation in defense, climate change, and space. The first item on Macron’s public agenda in Washington is a meeting at the NASA headquarters on Wednesday morning, where he will be accompanied by Vice President Kamala Harris, followed by a lunch with members of Congress to discuss climate change and biodiversity.

The visit will culminate in a state dinner at the White House on Thursday evening, after which Macron is expected to travel to Louisiana to meet the local Francophone and French community and to discuss Paris’ energy transition partnership with the state.

‘Boy We Zoomed Up!’ CNBC Reporters Gush Over GDP — Wonder If US ‘Canceled Appointment With Recession’

CNBC reporters Rick Santelli and Steve Liesman gushed about the new GDP estimate, and even wondered if the U.S. has “canceled its appointment with a recession.”

On Wednesday morning’s edition of CNBC’s Squawk Box, Santelli excitedly read the results of a new estimate for 3rd quarter Gross Domestic Product (GDP) that was revised up from a previous estimate and a slowdown in a key inflation indicator:


Our last look was up 2.6. Boy, we zoomed up to 2.9%! Added 3/10. Very unusual, up 2.9. On the consumption side, we improved by 3/10 from 1.4 up to 1.7. On the pricing index, 4.3 versus 4.1. And 4.3 is very interesting on the price index because the high watermark there goes all the way back, all the way back to 9% in June of 22. We have made great strides there. And if we look at the core personal consumption expenditure quarter over quarter, that’s up 4.6. The high watermark there was 6% and that was in June of 2021.

Anchor Becky Quick asked Liesman for his take, and he noted that “this quarter or even early, late last quarter was the one where we’re supposed to be slipping into recession. Instead, in the second half of this year, the economy has rebounded from those two negative numbers we got in the first half…”

Liesman added that the numbers show “we took care of inflation and we spent 2.9%, or at 2.9% more additional activity at an annualized rate.”

After PIMCO economist Tiffany Wilding, weighed in to say she still predicts a recession despite the growth, Liesman pushed back:

BECKY QUICK: Steve, if you were trying to figure out conventional wisdom, where does it stand right now in terms of the number of economists who are expecting recession, not just economists, but more broadly, people, watchers, traders, anybody else on this, you know, versus those who think you could have some sort of a crazy….

STEVE LIESMAN: It’s funny. It’s funny you ask that question, Becky, because I was just looking at that this morning. And I want to read you some of the commentary that I have here. Barclays, this is before the GDP number, says “we’ve delayed our estimate for the downturn. Our revisions allow spending momentum to carry into early 2023, pushing back the shallow recession that we had shown in our prior forecast by one quarter.”

…So I was actually just thinking to see what happened on the report on Friday for the jobs report. But I’m wondering, Becky, if the United States has canceled its appointment with a recession or not? You know, with due respect to what Tiffany says, I get what she’s saying, that that is probably the conventional wisdom out there. But I’m starting to wonder, Becky, if maybe, maybe — don’t throw things at me — we get out of this without a recession and more of a growth slowdown.

‘Another happy jobs day’: Economists thrilled with ‘amazing’ report as jobs growth beats expectations, wages increase

The Biden economy added a whopping 263,000 jobs last month, crushing expectations of 200,000, and wages are growing as well, leading one economist to declare "another happy jobs day."

The U.S.Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) adds that unemployment remains at a near-historic low of 3.7% in November, "and has been in a narrow range of 3.5 percent to 3.7 percent since March."

University of Michigan School of Economics Professor Justin Wolfers exclaimed, "It's yet ANOTHER happy jobs day. Payrolls rose +263k, well above expectations."

"This expansion just keeps on rolling on," added Wolfers, a senior fellow at The Brookings Institution.

Wolfers also takes on those who have been falsely pushing "recession" talking points.

"BTW, remember all that recession talk? It was nonsense. Bollocks. Cow dung," he tweets. "There never was a recession. And the economy sure doesn't look like it's in one now. Job growth at this rate is the economy singing: 'This is a robust expansion.'"

And he also slams the doom and gloom forecasters

Never mind that fewer members of the labor force are returning than ever before, which is why the unemployment rate is so low. And if those folks are not returning to the labor force since they left at the start of Covid, we must ask, how are they surviving?
