I am explaining their behavior. I am not justifying it. I wanted them to be punished, but there were no witnesses, and they had taken their badges off, so I could not get their numbers.

If someone had recorded the event on a cam recorder I would not have wanted the recording to inspire a riot. Because I am white, it would not have.

I continue to think of the police as my friends, and the criminals as my enemies.

Man ‘Eaten Alive’ by Insects in Infested Atlanta Jail Cell, Lawyer Alleges

An Atlanta man died in jail after being “eaten alive” by insects, his family’s attorney told USA TODAY Thursday. LaShawn Thompson, 35, was reportedly found unresponsive in his cell Sept. 19 and declared dead after first responders failed to save his life. At the time of his death, Thompson showed no signs of trauma but was covered in bed bugs. “Mr. Thompson was found dead in a filthy jail cell after being eaten alive by insects and bed bugs,” said his family’s lawyer, Michael D. Harper. Harper said the family is pursuing a criminal investigation and for major changes to be made at the jail after the horrid conditions Thompson allegedly endured. “They literally watched his health decline until he died,” Harper said. “When his body was found, one of the detention officers refused to administer CPR because in her words, she ‘freaked out.’ The jail cell Mr. Thompson was housed in was not fit for a diseased animal. He did not deserve this.” Thompson was arrested for misdemeanor simple battery in Atlanta last summer and placed in the psychiatric wing of the Fulton County Jail after officials established he was mentally ill.

Bodycam Footage Shows Cops Fatally Shoot Man at Wrong Address

A police department in New Mexico has been in hot water since it was revealed earlier this month that three of its officers responded to a call at the wrong house—and then shot the man who lived there. Now, newly released body camera footage shows the tragic moments leading up to the fatal April 5 shooting of 52-year-old Robert Dotson by police in Farmington, New Mexico. According to reporting by the Albuquerque Journal, the officers realized they were at the wrong house before Dotson opened the door. But they proceeded to shine a powerful light on him anyway, and then began shooting when he raised a weapon, possibly unaware that the men at his door were police. “All of us—the men and women of the Farmington Police Department—recognize the severity of this incident. We will do everything possible to more fully understand what transpired here,” the Farmington police chief said in a statement. The names of the officers involved have not been released, but the police department said they were all placed on administrative leave.

Domestic disputes are one of the most dangerous calls for cops.
Guy raises a gun at a domestic dispute call, theres a good chance he'll get shot.

Ohio grand jury votes against indicting police in Jayland Walker killing

    Reuters
    April 18, 2023

By Brendan O'Brien and Tyler Clifford

(Reuters) -An Ohio grand jury voted against indicting eight Akron police officers who fatally shot an unarmed Black man last year, the state attorney general said on Monday, as the city prepared for a fresh round of protests against alleged police misconduct.

The officers pursued Jayland Walker, 25, on foot after an attempted traffic stop last June and shot him 46 times, including five times in the back.

Police opened fire after mistakenly thinking Walker reached into his waistband for a gun, did a "cross draw motion," planted his foot and turned toward the officers while raising his hand, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost said during a briefing to announce the grand jury's decision.

"Only then did the officers fire believing Mr. Walker was firing again at them," said Yost, whose office was asked by local prosecutors to investigate the shooting.

Earlier, while driving his car with officers in pursuit, Walker had fired at least one shot at them, but he left the gun in the car when he fled on foot, Yost said.

State law allows officers to use deadly force against a deadly threat to themselves or others, he said.

"The grand jury concluded that the officers were legally justified in their use of force," he told a news conference.

The Walker family's legal team derided the decision and said they would file a civil lawsuit against the city in June.

Paige White, one of the lawyers, claimed prosecutors presented a case that was in favor of the officers.

"What we saw happen this week in the grand jury was a miscarriage of justice," she said. "Jayland did not have a chance."

U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes from Ohio said she will formally request the Justice Department probe the patterns and practices of the Akron Police Department.

"We've seen it too many times. A routine traffic stop ends in death," she said in a statement.

The panel of three men and six women, including two Black people, reached its decision after hearing that Walker had shot at officers at least once, and that officers had first used non-lethal Tasers in an attempt to stop him, Yost added.

Walker had neither alcohol nor drugs in his system at the time of his death.

The shooting follows a spate of law enforcement killings of Black people in the U.S. that have triggered protests against racial injustice and police brutality, including the 2020 murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Akron officials were preparing for the possibility that the grand jury's decision would lead to more protests.

In June, Walker's death sparked mostly peaceful daytime protests, although some demonstrators broke storefront windows and damaged property in central Akron, prompting police to disperse the crowd with tear gas.

Calling for peaceful protests, Mayor Dan Horrigan on Monday said the police department would internally investigate the incident and its policies. The review will be publicized at a later date.

The officers involved will remain on administrative duty as the department reviews if they violated internal policies, Police Chief Steve Mylett said.

Barriers have been set up in downtown Akron outside of City Hall and the police department in anticipation of protests, he said.

Akron Public Schools closed all schools on Tuesday to "ensure the safety of our scholars and staff" in light of the grand jury's decision.

      @toniter
Yes, standard practice is to handcuff anyone arrested.
      Even people shot 47 times.

And police are trained to shoot to kill. To shoot until the threat is done. That sounds harsh to snowflakes but the point is, we were trained that the gun was the last resort, resort to it when lives are at risk only. And if that is the situation, you shoot until the threat is eliminated.

Now. Very telling the rhetoric has focused on the number of shots, and handcuffs.
Not the chase he led police on.
Or the fact he did have a gun, and did fire.
Police couldn't know he left the gun in the car when he ran. They were pursuing a violent criminal and they did their job.

Carry on. Can hardly wait to hear the next chapter of demonization.

@shootersa, I can just see you stomping around your living room now. Slow down. I haven't heard or read criticism about the cops need to stop a threat. The dumb kid shot at the cops and ran. That pretty much completed his death certificate. The cops had no choice and a responsibility to end the threat, which they did. But there were eight cops shooting at this guy (I think), ninety something shots were fired and half of them found flesh. That's pretty good shooting, at night, on the run. Gotta wonder how many were fired into the guy after he was dead and lying on the ground.

It's times like this when Trump supporters remember they love police, at least the police who aren't guarding the Capitol.

Their concern about riots and police deaths is a pick and choose affair.

They sure proved that beyond any reasonable doubt didn't they. It was all back the Blue as long as they were killing unarmed Black people and attacking protesters. But as soon as the police try to stop an armed violent deadly insurrection or dare to investigate Trump its fuck the Blue defund those traitors.

Oh, good job. minimalize Shooter and get out the conspiracy thingy and see who salutes it.
    Good job.
    Shame on you.

According to all the reliable reports (and the grand jury) the cops did their job. The "victim" always had a choice. All he had to do was stop and let them see his hands. Instead he endangered the cops, anyone on the street nearby, and of course himself.
    And for what?
    All he got was dead.
Now his family, and the cops who took his life, have to live with that.
Course, the despicables are protesting the latest and demanding "justice"

Funny how people like to pick and choose. Why are we still reading about shootings at all?!?! This should not be the norm yet people are shooting, cops or not. Worst of it is, cops get away with a lot. Fun fact, if cops raid the wrong house by mistake they are not responsible for damages, talk about some bullshit

That is truly where we are at. Knock on the wrong door? shoot them. Pull into the wrong driveway shoot them. Try to get in the wrong car shoot them all.

Not to mention just leave that semi automatic pistol with a round in the chamber laying around where any toddler can get their hands, or more like their thumbs on it and shoot themselves or someone else. Fine. Better dead toddlers than gun laws.

Hey feeling a little down lately? Thinking about killing yourself? Don't go alone. Just walk down to your local gun store and buy an assault weapon and extended magazines and take a bunch of those fuckers with you.

All of them can be laid at the alter of the gun because you know .... freedom

The basic legal principle at work here is the suspect must behave perfectly under the most stressful circumstances or face death, with the knowledge that behaving perfectly may not prevent oneself from being shot multiple times by multiple policemen.

The counterpart of this principle is a policeman, or multiple policemen are allowed to behave badly, behave incompetently, or just callously, because they are in a stressful situation. If a civilian dies, they should have behaved more perfectly.

We expect police officers to risk their lives for the safety of others, but that's not actually in the official job description. It's difficult for the generation who grew up watching Dragnet and Adam-12 to understand that police officers are free to hide out of range while a young man with an AR-15 is murdering school children in the next room. Police officers are also free to shoot a civilian who may or may not be a threat. This is legal precedent we have created. This is just reality. No delusions needed.

It takes a particularly egregious event recorded on video, such as kneeling on a man's neck until he stops breathing, before a police officer's judgment is questioned. Even then, it better be on video or the death will be ruled "natural causes". After all, a healthy person should be able to hold their breath for 10 seconds, right?

A police officer has the right to go home to their family. Unless of course, he is a Capitol policeman. In this case, they can be hit with bear spray and a fire extinguisher before going home to their family, where they can die of a cerebral hemorrhage or commit suicide. More reality.

Is a police officer who kills a citizen who is not a threat to them, defending America.

That would be a pretty good deal. Instead of, " I regret I only have one life to give for my country," a policeman can give many lives.

Do not fall for the lie that anyone who criticizes police brutality and over use of lethal force in anti police.

The opposite is true. It is the few officers and police departments who engage in those things casing a dark cloud over all law enforcement and trying to weed those out actually supports and majority of police. Which is one of the reasons President Biden is requesting $35 billion in police funding in his 2023 budget.

It is the treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans screaming defund the FBI for noting more than daring to investigate Trump's crimes.

      carry on stumbler.
We all know your attitude towards police, and it isn't at all about criticism aimed at improving police.
If it was, you'd be spewing about cops dying because they lack proper equipment, training, and backup.
Not a whisper. Not a single tear. And if Shooter recalls correctly you were leading the charge a few years ago bitching about police departments having almost carte blanche on equipment and such.
And you surely didn't speak out against cutting cop budgets until that directive came down from the head office, did you?
Course, then you were all about casting your lies about who really wants to cut cop budgets and diverting with your to be expected BUT TRUMP nonsense.

But not ever, not once, were we entertained with one of your copy N paste jobs about a cop getting killed doing their job, or saving a life, or being an unsung hero.
Just your usual American hating bullshit.

      Shame on you.

Let's try to stay focused. On Apr6, Trump posted that the DOJ and FBI should be defunded. Now we know who wants to deprive law enforcement of money.

If anyone can link lack of funding or proper equipment to a police officer shooting a citizen who is not a threat, we can happily add that to the demand that police stop shooting citizens.

It makes a good slogan, "Less death, more stuff".
