I remember when a cop actually had less right to even draw their gun let alone actually fire it than anyone else. Seriously if a cop even unholstered their gun they had some explaining to do. And if they actually fired their gun they better be able to prove they were getting shot at first and they had a clear open shot that didn't endanger anyone else.. And if they couldn't they got their gun and badge taken away from them and they could never be a cop again.

And there used to be three reasons for that . One police were supposed to be professionally trained to accurately assess the situation. Two, they were supposed to be professionally trained to have courage and calm in the face of fire. And three since they had signed up to protect and serve better they die in the line of duty than a citizen.

Now though there is nothing wrong with cops being a bunch of trigger happy cowards that shoot first and ask questions later. Who gives a shit how many unarmed people they kill. They don't have to pay a cent for the lawsuits. The tax payers do. So they have better than a license to kill. They have a gun a badge and immunity.

Americans are five times more likely to be shot and killed by police than Canadians.
American handguns are the root of it all. We need to tighten up our southern border.

 

I had to come back to this. The police shot Jayland Walker 46 times. But they fired at him 921 times. So where did those other 46 bullets go? And you are telling me those are "responsible gun owners"? Because my grandma taught me I had to know where every one of my bullets stopped. And if I didn't I couldn't have a gun.

Plugging a rabbit or deer from ambush is considerably different than shooting at someone trying to kill you. You can understand that, can't you?

Grandma taught me if you can't hit your target don't pull the trigger. Grandma taught me I had to know what was behind, above and below my target and on either side or don't pull the trigger.

So are you telling us these police officers were under combat? As in someone actually shooting at them? Because you would be an absolute liar if you are.


By the way tell us since you claim to be an ex cop back in the 70's. What your rules of resorting to lethal force? What was your training at the time? Shoot first and ask questions later? Empty your gun?

 

What your sainted grandma taught you about hunting isn't applicable to law enforcement training.

And yes, after a high speed chase with shots fired and a perpetrator who apparently turned as if to again shoot is "combat".

And for you to even mutter liar at someone else is truly shameful.

Finally you do not deserve to or are smart enough to even begin to understand police training in the use of deadly force. Either today or in the 1970's when shooter was a cop.

But the problem is bigger than that. The problem is actually policing itself where the public is seen as the enemy and police are allowed to shoot first and ask questions later and have immunity for their actions.

Police body cam footage shows Oklahoma man being tased while handcuffed — he later died

The McCurtain County Commission and county officials have been under greater scrutiny after a series of recordings of a secret meeting was revealed.

Now the McCurtain News-Gazette, a local print-only newspaper, has also released body camera footage of the McCurtain County Sheriff and his deputies on the night that they arrested Tulsa man Bobby Barrick. The man died in the custody of the police in March 2022.

"After reportedly breaking property at a convenience store in Eagleton and causing a scene, citizens hogtied Barrick before deputies arrived," local KJRH reported late Wednesday night.

Tulsa attorney Mitchell Garrett said in a press release that Barrick experienced another example of unreasonable force, including tasers while he was handcuffed. Barrick then had a seizure and was dead five days later. The lawsuits are against the sheriff's office as well as the McCurtain County Board of Commissioners and includes wrongful death and civil rights violations.

The lawsuit was filed before the McCurtain Gazette-News published a QR code leading to the body camera footage.

The lawsuit also comes after Sheriff Kevin Clardy was revealed to have joked with Commissioner Mark Jennings, who resigned Wednesday along with three others, about the days when the deputies could abuse and lynch Black men. Barrick, however, was white.

The two-minute video shows Barrick screaming that he was afraid they would kill him.

"They're going to kill me!" he shouted while handcuffed inside of the police car.

"He's doped up hard," the deputy says to one of the paramedics.

The video is part of an ongoing effort by the Gazette to obtain the video with open records requests. The paper took the McCurtain County Sheriff's Office to court. It's part of a two-year investigation into potential corruption in the MCSO that reporter Chris Willingham has followed.

The MCSO has said that they will investigate the authenticity of the audio, but in the same statement, they also said that it was doctored. The following day, the paper released the full three-hour recording.

The MCSO has also contacted the Oklahoma state FBI offices asking that the paper be investigated for illegally recording the meeting that was supposed to be open to the public. The paper's publisher said in a statement that he spoke with his lawyer twice to ensure that he could leave the recorder in the room upon leaving.

Some things that might help police would be better and more consistent training, oversight and scrutiny. Higher pay and funding for health checks and welfare services performed by specialist officers.

 

Police departments also need to weed out the racists, white supremacists, neo Nazis, and sadists. That is one of the police reforms people were protesting for following the George Floyd murder.

A Texas man accused of taking part in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot is now facing a federal firearms charge after prosecutors said he fired several shots toward law enforcement days before his first court appearance, according to a news release.

Nathan Donald Pelham, 40, of Greenville, shot at Hunt County Sheriff’s Department officers April 12 when they arrived at his home to do a welfare check, according to the news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas. The shooting happened days before he was scheduled for his first court appearance for charges relating to the U.S. Capitol riot.

Pelham is facing four misdemeanor charges for the part he is accused of playing in the breach of the Capitol Building in Washington, D.C.

Authorities said Pelham’s family called the sheriff’s office for a welfare check, telling dispatchers he had a gun. When officers arrived, they found the house was dark. After officers turned on their emergency lights, Pelham’s juvenile daughter exited the home, according to the news release. Officers then heard gunshots from the house and took cover.



About an hour later, Pelham walked onto the porch and fired toward officers, according to the news release. Sheriff’s deputies told him to put the gun down, but Pelham continued to wave it around until he went back into the home. Another hour later, Pelham came out of the house again and fired multiple rounds, authorities said.

No injuries were reported.

A later search of Pelham’s home turned up a 9 millimeter Smith & Wesson handgun and four boxes of ammunition, as well as bullet holes in the walls.

Pelham, who is a convicted felon and therefore is not legally allowed to own firearms, was charged via criminal complaint, according to federal prosecutors. He made his first court appearance on the gun charges Thursday. If convicted of the gun charges, Pelham could spend up to 15 years in prison on top of a potential sentence of three years on the misdemeanor charges related to the Capitol Building breach.
