It’s funny coming that DeSantis fought in the navy and is practicing tyrannical politics by banning books and charging people who speak poorly of him. The funniest part of all, Disney might be the reason he’ll resign

DeSantis signs bill to defund DEI programs at Florida public colleges

    CNN —

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis on Monday signed legislation to defund diversity, equity and inclusion programs at all state universities, which he called a “distraction from the core mission.”

“This is better viewed as standing for discrimination, exclusion and indoctrination, and that has no place in our public institutions,” DeSantis said at a news conference in Sarasota.

“If you want to do things like gender ideology, go to (the University of California) Berkeley,” DeSantis added. “There’s nothing wrong with that, per se, but for us with our tax dollars, we want to focus on the classical mission of what a university is supposed to be.”

Under the law, Florida state universities are barred from spending state or federal funds to promote, support or maintain any programs that “advocate for diversity, equity, and inclusion, or promote or engage in political or social activism.”

“What this does is reorient our universities back to their traditional mission and part of that traditional mission is to treat people as individuals, not to try to divvy them up based on any type of superficial characteristics,” DeSantis said.

The law also demands that general education courses “may not distort significant historical events or include a curriculum that teaches identity politics” based on “theories that systemic racism, sexism, oppression, and privilege are inherent in the institutions of the United States and were created to maintain social, political, and economic inequities.”

DeSantis signed the legislation at the liberal arts New College of Florida, where he has been steering a conservative takeover. Earlier this year, DeSantis replaced six members of the college’s board of trustees with conservative allies.

In addition, the law gives university presidents and boards of trustees more hiring power.

“They’re more accountable to the people of Florida who they’re using our tax dollars,” DeSantis said. “It’s easier to be able to make changes if they’re failing at their mission.”

Making light of protests at the college, DeSantis said he was “a little disappointed” in the turn out.

“I was hoping for more,” DeSantis said. “It’s all good.”

'The mouse brought in the big guns': Disney prepares to level DeSantis' attacks

The dispute between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Disney World heated up last month when the company sued DeSantis and other government officials, accusing them of retaliation against the company for exercising its constitutional rights last year when it criticized a Florida law that bars classroom discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity.

According to The Washington Post, what started as a feud between DeSantis and Disney has now become a war between DeSantis and Disney's CEO Bob Iger.

Last month, responding to DeSantis’ tax district declaring Disney’s development agreements void, the company went to court, alleging government interference in its contracts and retaliation for daring to criticize DeSantis' policies.

“The mouse brought in the big guns,” said Dave Aronberg, a state attorney in Palm Beach County and former Democratic state senator. “The problem with DeSantis’ case is that he and his supporters never tried to hide their true intentions. You can’t do any of this in retaliation.”

Former Republican state representative Jeff Brandes said the feud has been good for DeSantis in the sense that it has kept his name in the headlines, but he “got himself into something that he doesn’t know how to get out of" while Disney is creating the image that it's standing up for its employees.

Some GOP leaders have warned that the feud may be hurting DeSantis in the long run. Trump called the feud "a political stunt," saying on Truth Social that the company's next move "will be the announcement that no more money will be invested in Florida because of the Governor – in fact, they could even announce a slow withdrawal or sale of certain properties, or the whole thing. Watch!”

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, has called for DeSantis to negotiate with Disney.

“Why wouldn’t you sit down and negotiate and talk? If there’s differences, you can always find ways that you can solve this problem," McCarthy said last month on CNBC.

Disney kills $1 billion development in Florida just days before DeSantis' expected presidential announcement

    • Disney canceled its plans to move jobs from California to Florida.

    • The announcement came just days before DeSantis is expected to formally run for president.

    • It also came after DeSantis signed a slew of anti-trans measures into law.
The Walt Disney Co. on Thursday scrapped its plans to build a nearly $1 billion campus in Florida, just as details leaked about Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis' imminent presidential run.

The 2,000 jobs that were headed to Florida will now no longer be leaving Southern California where the entertainment company is headquartered. Disney World is Florida's largest attraction and already employs 75,000 people in the state.

CEO Bob Iger appeared to threaten Florida recently, amid the company's ongoing battle with the governor over who controls the land surrounding Disney World. The fight has grown increasingly bitter and is before the courts.

"One question: Does the state want us to invest more, employ more people, and pay more taxes — or not?" he asked during the company's second-quarter earnings call.

The decision drew immediate reaction from the Trump campaign, and Steven Cheung, campaign spokesman, noted to Insider that former President Donald Trump predicted Disney's "slow withdrawal" on Truth Social weeks ago. The Trump campaign then circulated an email to reporters outlining Trump's economic policies when he was president.

"Ron DeSanctimonious gets caught in the mouse trap," the Trump campaign tweeted Thursday.

Numerous reports say that DeSantis is going to make a presidential bid official next week, kicking off with a donor event in Miami.

Disney's announcement also came a day after DeSantis signed a slew of anti-transgender rights bills into law that will limit access to healthcare, public restroom usage, and school curriculum.

"Turns out, bigoted policies have consequences," Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom of California, who'd urged Disney not to relocate workers from his state to Florida, tweeted.

His office later issued a statement calling Disney's announcement a "victory" for California and company employees who "know they can live in a state where they are respected and safe."

DeSantis and Disney have been locked in a power struggle that began when Disney publicly objected to a Florida law that severely limits teachings about gender identity and sexual orientation in public schools.

DeSantis appointed board members to take over the special tax district Disney enjoys, and proposed new tolls, taxes, and affordable housing, and floated the possibility of building a state prison nearby.

Nikki Fried, who chairs the Florida Democratic Party, said in a statement that she wasn't surprised by the news, blaming DeSantis' "unhinged personal vendetta."

The Wall Street Journal was first to break the news about Disney's latest plans, per an internal email from Josh D'Amaro, Disney's head of Parks, Experiences and Products.

"While some were excited about the new campus, I know that this decision and the circumstances surrounding it have been difficult for others," D'Amaro wrote, according to Journal. "Given the considerable changes that have occurred since the announcement of this project, including new leadership and changing business conditions, we have decided not to move forward."

Hundreds of Disney workers who already relocated to Florida will have the option to move back, per the Wall Street Journal.

The email sent Thursday comes as the company has plans to cut more than 7,000 jobs by the summer, and Disney has been under new leadership ever since November. The relocation plans initially happened under former CEO Bob Chapek.

DeSantis' office blamed Disney's financial challenges when asked about the scuttled plans for the Florida campus.

"Disney announced the possibility of a Lake Nona campus nearly two years ago," Jeremy Redfern, press secretary for the governor, told Insider. "Nothing ever came of the project, and the state was unsure whether it would come to fruition.Given the company's financial straits, falling market cap and declining stock price, it is unsurprising that they would restructure their business operations and cancel unsuccessful ventures."

Desantis is keeping this state normal. Meaning keeping everything as it was before biden started catering to the 1%s!!! Unlike NY, CA, Chicago and so on, we don't have major crime, streets are not inundated with homeless, we don't have mass groups picketing. We are a hard working diverse group of people that respects and protects each other! Our police force is highly recognized, powerful and well respected! We are the melting pot of the world and we love it that way! It is the way that the US is suppose to be but can't because biden pushes extreme racisist policies

A smart boke would want Dismal World to stay in Florida as they employ around 70,000 and bring in multiple billions of dollars to Florida's economy.....but obviously the Republicans and Ron DeSanctimonious with his giant ego isn't smart enough to not pick a fight with Mickey.

@Stormy8330 I was reviewing his recent bills & I only saw where medical professionals can refuse treatment if it is not within their personal beliefs. Now, I don't agree with that & it can open a can of worms, not just for the Trans but also for people in general.

Tell me what I'm missing in the way of medications.

I have friends in marathon & kw. They too said a lot of people left after the hurricane & it hasn't been the same since. However, I looked at Monroe County population for 2023 & it is showing a 17% increase.

We are the melting pot and even more so as these democratic run cities are loosing residents because of their weak policies & higher taxes. We had an overall growth rate of 4% for 2022 which is the highest in the country per capita.

If biden didn't push his ignorant policies against the majority, none of this would have happened. Now there are a lot of knee jerk reactions to try & protect what we once had. Can't say I agree with all of it but I do understand the why's of it

And you've got to draw your line somewhere...
And which Biden policies, exactly, caused Ron Desantis and the other Republicans in Florida to go all spiteful on the LGBTQ+ community? What caused all the banned books? And then what caused Desantis to go after a groups free speech?

    @sirius1902

Ok, lets start with SB254.. 254 starts out with the State can take your child if you give them any medication that is for Gender affirming care. This can be done even if a parent who has custody in another state allows the child to take gender-affirming medications in that state and visits this one. They have the legal right to take the child from the parents. No kidding read the bill, Florida said it can legally take a child who resides in another state. Can't wait to see what happens when this one gets challenged.

The second part, prohibiting sex-reassignment prescriptions and procedures for patients younger than 18 years of age; requires the department to immediately suspend the license of a healthcare practitioner who is arrested for committing or attempting, soliciting, or conspiring to commit specified violations related to sex-reassignment prescriptions or procedures. -- They not only are being told they can not treat their pt. they are threatened with arrest.

The third part of this bill says that adults 18 years or older have to seek a Doctor each time they need their medications refilled. They are required to sign an informed consent form. It also removes their liability shield. So now most doctors (including my own) are unable to provide any health care to anyone seeking gender-affirming medicines. I have spoken to well over 300 trans people online and in support groups, we have found only about six doctors that are willing to try. They are suddenly booked out almost a solid year in advance.

There is a bit more as far as punishments and then they define the terms. Yahad... and so on.. Now to the next bill,

SB 1674 facility Requirements Based on Sex; Creating the “Safety in Private Spaces Act”. The bathroom bill. So this one is simple. Your required to use the bathroom that matches the sex you were born with. This is what I have started to call the Pandores box Law. I have posted before but let me do so again. This is what you're going to see now in women's restrooms.

    [IMG] [IMG]

Ironically enough this bill forces Trans men into women's bathrooms. And to think, you all were worried about men dressed as women going to women's bathrooms. Now you have men going to women's bathrooms and you forced it to happen! People have already been assaulted for following these rules. Welcome to SB 1674...

Ok next bills this is two bills combined, HB 1423 and SB 1438, which are the anti-drag laws. Now this one affects me. They say that if the establishment admits a child to the adult live performance they can have their license revoked. If it has lewd, sexual, or inappropriate behavior. It also added however taken as a whole, is without serious literary, artistic, political, or scientific value for the age of the children present. So, let's break this down in daily terms. I am a tour guide. I dress in a manner that fits me as a person and after being on HRT for a couple of years, I don't do well in men's stuff, it's kind of noticeable I am not a guy. I teach history here in Key West. Does this fall under artistic? We talk about Pirates and how they fight, is this appropriate for kids under the age of 5 or so? Who makes that call? For simply trying to teach the kids because my title is actor I can be arrested. Now mind you for me, the fine is fifty bucks and I think it might be worth the fight. But my company can lose its business license. So am I out of work? Not sure. The lawyers are waiting to see.

Now the one you mentioned, any medical professional can refuse treatment to anyone based on Religious or Moral issues. This includes Doctors, Nurses, EMTs, also included are Police and Fire.. Yeah, little rider they snuck in there at the last minute. Not that the police are on our side anyway. But one can always hope. Infect if they see a transgender person having a heart attack they have no legal obligation to help if they don't want to. If a transperson is in a auto accident an EMT or even a Firemen can refuse aid to that person, even if it means their death. This doesn't just affect trans people. If they don't want to because you are Black, Asian, or Somoan.. Doesn't matter they can just sit back and watch. I would hope their Hippocratic Oath would be their guide. But it's their call and someone will decide to let a person die. It's going to happen you watch.

Now, most of these laws will get struck down. Let's face it Florida can't take a child from another state. They can't stop doctors from treating patients. However, what it is doing is green-lighting hate and telling the people who really are Bigots it's ok to be that way. Just last month a Trans Man was beaten,he was put in the hospital. The guy that did it.. Nothing, they were let go. He got arrested.

    https://www.fox19.com/2022/07/08/tr...-says-group-beat-him-up-using-wrong-restroom/

Thankfully in my case. I am a full-time RVer. I am out of here in the next few weeks. I am getting a job in California. I am just waiting for the final approval from HR. So I am getting out of Florida just as fast as my little wheels will let me. You are losing people, we are fleeing. I am not alone as I said, I talk to lots of us. I am a Political Refugee in the United States of America. How ya like them apples?

Yeh, this isn't Florida before Biden.. This is Florida before Johnson.

Desantis is just another election denying trumptard. The guy still hasn't acknowledged Biden's 2020 win. But what else can a true trumptard do. Lake and Trump make up election fraud lies. While other trumptards like Desantis spread them for political gain.

You're just a hater. Of all rep. So what's your point? And can you prove Ron has said anything about election fraud? Because I know you guys have been challenging him but to the best of my knowledge he is averting that question like the plaque

Reporters are challenging him because Desantis has never acknowledged Biden's win in the 2020 election. What's do hard about stating a obvious fact? Well Desantis knows he can never admit Trump lost the 2020 election. Desantis owes everything to Trump. So you'll never hear Desantis tell the truth about the 2020 election. Desantis also told Trump to "fight on" with his election fraud claims. Yep Desantis is just an apple from the Trump tree.

Desantis still hasn't acknowledged Biden win over Trump. That's just a fact. So why can't Desantis bring himself to say Trump lost? Desantis just another Trumptard, so he can never ever say Trump lost.
