The far-right faction of the Republican party is up in arms about the Federal Bureau of Investigation's search of Mar-a-Lago, calling for the agency to be defunded and destroyed.

Trump ally and Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene was one of the first to tweet her disapproval of the search, posting on Twitter: "DEFUND THE FBI!"

She then followed that up with a tweet reading: "Elections are how Americans solve political differences. Not by radicalizing our federal law enforcement to take political enemies out. This is why we must protect election integrity."

She was joined by other GOP lawmakers who came out against law enforcement in support of Trump.


"The FBI raid on Trump's home tells us one thing. Failure is not an option," Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar tweeted. "We must destroy the FBI. We must save America."

Colorado lawmaker Lauren Boebert tweeted that she wanted the GOP to "set up a Select Committee to investigate the FBI's politically-motivated raid on Mar-a-Lago and on ALL the fraudulent persecution of President Trump from our government."

"This cannot wait. We are turning into a banana republic at record speed," Boebert wrote.

Speaking on Fox News, Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio called on Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray to answer questions at the House Judiciary Committee on Friday.


"What were you really doing? What were you looking for? Why not talk to President Trump and have him give the information you're after?" Jordan questioned angrily. "This is unbelievable!"

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy tweeted a warning to Garland, signaling that a GOP-controlled Congress would investigate the FBI's search of Trump's property.

"I've seen enough. The Department of Justice has reached an intolerable state of weaponized politicization," McCarthy tweeted. "When Republicans take back the House, we will conduct immediate oversight of this department, follow the facts, and leave no stone unturned," McCarthy wrote. "Attorney General Garland, preserve your documents and clear your calendar."

House Republicans' calls to defund and destroy a law enforcement organization stands in contrast to legislation their party introduced in May 2021 to "back the blue" in opposition to a progressive push to defund the police. As recently as May 2022, top-ranking Republicans like Rep. Elise Stefanik were still pushing the "back the blue" slogan — something that both Greene and Boebert have themselves staunchly supported.


The congressional lawmakers' posts join a chorus of conservative voices decrying the FBI's execution of a search warrant at Mar-a-Lago on Monday. For one, Trump's 2024 rivals like Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio swooped in to support Trump on Monday.

In the midst of GOP lawmakers' allegations of the investigation being politically motivated, it is worth noting that Wray, the FBI chief, was a Trump appointee nominated in June 2017. At the time, Trump described him as "a man of impeccable credentials."

It is unclear what investigation the search warrant for Mar-a-Lago was related to, though three sources told CNN it was related to whether or not Trump mishandled classified government documents. The National Archives also asked the DOJ in February to look into whether Trump broke laws by removing documents from the White House and bringing them to Mar-a-Lago.

Legal experts told Insider on Monday night that securing a federal search warrant against an ex-president is no easy feat. The experts said agents must prove an extremely high degree of probable cause and that the FBI likely had an overwhelming amount of credible evidence ahead of the search before even applying to a judge to grant such a warrant.

Jim Jordan's hands are tied despite pressure to save Donald Trump: columnist

Washington Post columnist Greg Sargent doesn't think there are a lot of options available to Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH), who might be looking for ways to save Donald Trump from prosecution.

Writing Monday, Sargent quoted Jordan as he struggled to defend Trump on CNN Sunday. This is as political as it gets!" the congressman fumed.

But there isn't much he can do about it, Sargent said.

"MAGA Republicans will expect the House to do everything within its power, but it’s not clear that the House can do all that much — or that many non-MAGA Republicans will even want to," he explained.

Speaking to Dana Bash Sunday, Jordan claimed that Trump repeatedly said that he had declassified everything. Bash noted that, after leaving the White House, Trump was on a recording saying he didn't declassify a document and wished he had. Jordan wouldn't accept it.

Jordan went on to claim that Trump can keep "declassified" information "wherever he wants." To reinforce his confusion, Jordan then admitted he doesn't know if Trump had declassified anything. He simply assumed Trump is telling the truth.

"Someone willing to offer such ludicrous spin will presumably be willing to use his committee to derail the prosecution by any means necessary. So what can Jordan do?" Sargent asked.

The problem for Jordan is that even when it comes to Jordan's current role, heading a committee that's effectively trying to bring down President Joe Biden, he's failed. It's goal was to prove that Biden had weaponized the government against Republicans. However, it has instead drawn increased attention to some of Trump's behavior while working in the White House.

"To be clear, congressional oversight of law enforcement is an essential component of the rule of law. Republicans could theoretically conduct this in good faith and possibly produce genuine evidence of prosecutorial misconduct," said Sargent.

"But Jordan’s track record is awful. He has relied on FBI “whistleblowers” who peddle conspiracy theories about the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. He has issued subpoenas designed to persuade conservative parents to feel like FBI targets when they aren’t. He has harassed academics who study disinformation to pretend that conservatives are being silenced."

Sargent explained that Jordan is trying to seem like he's doing a lot, but he has landed more misses than hits.

"But if the prosecution of Trump advances, MAGA Republicans might demand not performative strikes but real results. If so, the GOP split will deepen between those who want to go through the motions of defending Trump without aligning themselves too firmly against the rule of law, and those who want the House to treat the fantasy of Trump’s persecution as a genuine MAGA emergency, and act accordingly," he said.

The Oversight Committee has already obtained thousands of pages of financial records related to the Biden family and has traced millions of dollars from China and Romania to the Biden family and their associates. Americans are asking: What is the Biden family business? They don’t sell anything, they don’t have lucrative assets generating income, yet they receive millions from around the globe. What are they selling? Influence and access.

President Biden has repeatedly lied to the American people about his family’s business dealings. Now, Americans are left wondering if Joe Biden was involved with them.

The document memorializes a confidential human source’s conversations with a foreign national who claimed to have bribed then-Vice President Biden in exchange for certain actions.

Last month, Sen. Grassley and I demanded the FBI produce this unclassified record and I issued a subpoena to obtain it. We need to know what, if anything, the FBI did to verify the serious allegations contained within this record. The American people need to know if President Biden sold out the United States to make money for himself.

Unfortunately, the premier agency that is supposed to investigate crimes appears to have run defense for the Bidens. FBI Director Christopher Wray refused for weeks to acknowledge the existence of the FD-1023 form and failed to produce it.

Once Director Wray finally confirmed the record’s existence, the FBI still failed to comply with a congressional subpoena.

We made it clear: If the FBI didn’t hand over this form, the House Oversight Committee would begin contempt of Congress proceedings. The FBI was finally forced to cooperate and is allowing all members of the House Oversight Committee to review the record in person and producing additional documents.

Allowing all Oversight Committee members to review this record is a big victory and an important step toward conducting oversight of the FBI and holding it accountable to the American people.

• The FBI confirmed multiple times during our briefing that the information contained within the record is currently being used in an ongoing investigation.
• The confidential human source who provided information about then-Vice President Biden being involved in a criminal bribery scheme is a trusted, highly credible informant who has been used by the FBI for years and paid six figures.
• The allegations contained within the record track closely with the thousands of pages of financial records obtained by the Oversight Committee. The Bidens have a pattern of using their network of over 20 limited liability companies and complicated financial transactions to hide the sources of the money and evade detection.

Disinformation from the left reinforces the need for the FBI to produce this unclassified FD-1023 record to the House Oversight Committee.

Despite growing evidence, the White House and Democrats are lying to the American people about the allegations contained within this record and what was done with it. Let me set the record straight:

• First, Democrats are peddling conspiracy theories and alleging the FD-1023 record is based on secondhand hearsay. The FD-1023 record was generated by a trusted confidential source who was working with the FBI for over ten years.
• Second, Democrats claim that the record is part of the documents Rudy Giuliani provided the FBI in January 2020. That’s not true. The FD-1023 document stands on its own and contains information from the FBI’s confidential human source dating back to another FD-1023 generated in 2017.
• Third, the FD-1023 was generated by the FBI in June 2020 based on other FBI records dating back to 2017. The Department of Justice conducted an assessment on separate material provided to the Department in January 2020, and this assessment was closed in August 2020. Democrats are claiming the DOJ investigated the FD-1023 and then took no action, but the FBI has refused to answer what information was part of their assessment. How could the DOJ have conducted a credible, thorough investigation in four weeks? It’s not possible.
• And last, let’s be very clear: The allegations in the record are not closed. FBI officials and former Attorney General William Barr have refuted Democrats’ lies that the Biden bribery investigation was closed. "On the contrary, it was sent to Delaware for further investigation," former Attorney General Barr said this week on the record.

Republicans are going to follow the facts and ensure accountability for the American people.

Americans have lost trust in the FBI’s ability to enforce the law impartially and demand answers, transparency, and accountability.

The Oversight Committee will continue to follow the facts and ensure accountability for the American people. Democrats’ lies and deterrents will not distract us from this goal.

Matt Gaetz admits FBI 'whistleblower' can only produce 'allegation' against Biden

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) admitted on Tuesday that he only has an "allegation" against President Joe Biden despite suggestions by Republicans who say the former vice president likely received bribes from foreign governments.

During an interview with conservative podcast host Steve Bannon, Gaetz revealed that he had personally debriefed an alleged FBI whistleblower with apparent dirt on Biden's family.

"And I found the claims credible, but I want to be very clear about something," he said. "Even what's on a 1023 [form] is an allegation."

"And the important work ahead is not to reflexively lurch into some sort of legislative procedural posture, " he continued. "It is to track down the bank records. It is to look for these 17 audio recordings that I knew were alleged to have existed several months ago."

Gaetz said that Republican lawmakers could take foreign trips to secure bank records.

"And so there's going to have to be some very serious work," he remarked.

The FBI FD-1023 is used to "record raw, unverified reporting from confidential human sources," according to the Society of Former Special Agents.
