First, Shooter gives not a tick fart what Romney thinks should happen.
Second, when Biden was begging for votes he told us he'd treat Saudia Arabia as a "pariah" for Khashoggi’s murder.

Shooter even recalls that at the time the resident American hating bung hole touted this as a reason why biden was a better choice than trump. Remember?
Well, now biden is planning to run over to Saudia Arabia to beg for more oil, cause we all know Presidents have zero impact on the price of gas in America, and then he might even stop by Israel to, you know, see how things are working out over there.

Wonder if biden is planning a trip to Iran to, you know, show support for their nukelear program?

Just more proof that politicians lie. They always lie. Whatever it takes, eh stumbler?

How Stacey Abrams Helped Funnel Hundreds of Thousands of Dollars to an Israel-Hating Terrorist Sympathizer

Georgia Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacey Abrams sits on the board of a foundation that funneled hundreds of thousands of dollars to an anti-Israel activist who has praised terrorists and encouraged violence against Jews.

Abrams joined the Marguerite Casey Foundation board in May 2021, business filings show. Roughly six months later, the foundation announced its 2021 cohort of "Freedom Scholars," a group of "leading thinkers and scholars … in critical fields including abolitionist, Black, feminist, queer, radical, and anti-colonialist studies." Included in the group was UCLA professor Robin D.G. Kelley, a leading Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) activist who works with groups that collaborate with Palestinian terrorists.

Kelley, who received $250,000 through the program, praised the Palestine Liberation Organization—a U.S.-designated terror group—as "revolutionary combatants" and "models for those of us dedicated to Black liberation and socialism" in a 2016 article. Three years prior, Kelley encouraged Palestinians to use violence against Israelis, calling the notion that Palestinians should only protest non-violently a "bludgeon to beat down Palestinian organizations." Kelley also advisesthe U.S. Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel, a group that operates to advance the BDS movement on college campuses. The campaign's fiscal sponsor, Al-Awda, works with Palestinian terrorist organizations such as Hamas to grow BDS and routinely hosts convicted Islamic jihadists at its events, the Jerusalem Post reported in 2019.

Abrams’s role in funding Kelley provides a startling window into how the Democrat could handle the BDS movement and larger issues of anti-Semitism on Georgia’s college campuses should she defeat Gov. Brian Kemp (R.) in November. As governor, Abrams would appoint members to the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia, which oversees the state’s public colleges and universities. Georgia legislators passed a law in 2016 that forbids the state from contracting a person or company that promotes a boycott of Israel, but a federal judge struck that law down in May 2021. Abrams opposed the law as a state representative and reportedly refused to meet with pro-Israel activists at the time.

It is unclear whether Abrams was directly involved with the grant to Kelley. When she joined the foundation's board in 2021, she emphasized that a major part of her role would be determining "how the philanthropic network targets its contributions." Neither Abrams nor the foundation responded to inquiries on her involvement with the Freedom Scholars program. Abrams has earned more than $52,000 from the foundation since 2020, her financial disclosures show.

In addition to Kelley's anti-Israel activism, the professor has called himself a "communist for life" and argued that capitalism is inherently racist. The Marguerite Casey Foundation also awarded $250,000 to a pair of academics—Angelica Chazaro and Ananya Roy—who advocate for the abolition of prisons and private property, respectively.

In May 2021, the foundation launched its "Answer the Uprising" initiative, which aims to fund groups working to "transform, defund, [and] abolish" police. The initiative was "fully supported by Marguerite Casey Foundation’s Board of Directors, which recently named seven new changemakers to the Board, including Stacey Abrams," the foundation said in a press release. One year before Abrams decided to join the group's board, the foundation gave $200,000 to the Louisville Community Bail Fund, which later paid $100,000 to free Quintez Brown, an anti-police activist charged with the attempted murder of a Jewish mayoral candidate.

Abrams ran unopposed in Georgia's May primary election and will face Kemp in November after the Republican defeated Trump-backed challenger and former senator David Perdue by 52 points in his own primary bid. Her campaign against Kemp is not her first—the Democrat lost to Kemp by roughly 2 points in 2018 but never conceded defeat, instead arguing the election was "stolen" due to "voter suppression." After her loss, Abrams launched a nonprofit "voting rights" group that sued Georgia's secretary of state to challenge the validity of the election. That lawsuit blasted the state's use of "unreliable" voting machines and even alleged the machines "switched" votes from Abrams to Kemp.

Iran Admits Deadly Explosion at Suspected Nuclear Facility Was No Accident

Iran — which continues to attack Israel through its proxies, wreak havoc in the region, and push torward the development of a nuclear bomb — admitted on Monday what the world already knew was true: last month’s explosion at a military research center in Iran was not an accident.

Soon after the incident, Western media reported the May 25 explosion at the military facility in Parchin was the result of a drone attack.

The explosion, which killed one engineer and injured another, followed the assassinations of several military officials. Many believe the uptick in explosions and deaths of Iranian scientists and military officials is Israel’s attempt to discourage and thwart growing threats against their nation.

In recent weeks there have been multiple strikes in Syria against weapons depots used by Iran and her proxies. Following the arrival of new weapons via supply planes at the Damascus airport last week, an Israeli raid crippled the radar tower and runway, drawing a sharp rebuke from Russia. The airport remains closed.

On Monday, Iranian media quoted Imam Hussein University President Hasani-Ahangar referring to last month’s explosion as “industrial sabotage.”

Iran, however, denies that the Parchin site was used to conduct nuclear weapons research. However, Iran recently admitted that it tested parts used for nuclear detonators there and turned off surveillance cameras at suspected nuclear development sites.

On many accounts, Iran has not proven itself an honest or reliable player on the international stage.

I thought someone would put up a thread on Hamas striking Israel. I don't think I have ever seen anything like this. The attack was massive with more than 2,000 missiles fired that overwhelm Iron Dome and acted as cover for Hamas terrorists to attack on land air and sea. Israel is saying more than 600 Israelis killed which is more casualties than I can ever remember. And Israel believes Hamas has for than 100 hostages. And it is believed there are Americans among the dead and kidnapped.

Ther3e are still ongoing fire fights inside Israel. And Israel is striking back in Gaza with air raids. But they have the obvious problem of not knowing where the hostages are being held and they could accidentally kill them.

This is also being reported as a massive intelligence failure by one of the best intelligence agencies in the world. And attack this massive had to be in the planning for years and thousands have been recruited to take part in the attack. And yet no one saw it coming.

US Navy moving warships, aircraft closer to Israel amid Hamas war.

The U.S. Navy is moving warships and aircraft closer to Israel in the aftermath of an unprecedented assault on the country from Hamas terrorists, a U.S. military official tells Fox News.

President Biden has aggressively affirmed Israel's right to defend itself in the wake of Saturday's surprise attack, which has so far killed at least 600 Israelis and wounded at least 2,000 more.

The Pentagon has not clarified whether it would use military force to assist Israel in the conflict. Israel formally declared war on Hamas on Sunday, its first such declaration since 1973.

Oh, and I forgot, it was Hamas that declared war by entering their army into Israel by air, sea and land and by committing war crimes amongst others by kidnapping civilians and killing innocent unarmed civilians ni their hundreds !

Hi there, I am actually living in Israel. It is true that it is a major intelligence error (just 50 years and 1 day after the Yom Kipur war in 1973) but there were actually many hundreds of terrorists that crossed the border and many Gaza civilians that ssisted in moving the hostages back into Gaza. I am sure that the reasons for this failure will be thoroughly checked but first Israel has to win the war. The first step is to clear Israel of all the terrorists that infiltrated and that will take most likely till tomorrow. It is also clear that a lot worse has been avoided as was deducted from the equipment they took with them, a lot of water, food, RPGs and anti aircraft rockets. They had planned to stay many days. Over 400 terrorists have been killed in Israel and many others taken prison, part of which were the civilians assisting the terrorists. In the meantime the airforce is attacking from the air destroying many targets, over 800 of them only in the first two days, to weaken the terrorists and kill as many of them as possible. Once this has been completed they will concentrate on a land incursion to take away the military power of Hamas and hopefully to kill or take prison their leaders. I can't say much more as this is an international forum.
It is unheard of how the terrorists just entered and started shooting at whatever moved, whether soldiers or civilians, armed or not. There was a concert near the border with over 2,000 people staying the night as well and in the morning the terrorists just came and started killing everybody, over 200 were killed there. This is the direct result of the world supporting them with billions of dollars over the years and also the American Government that started to support them again after Biden came to power. And let's be clear, the PA did not condemn Hamas for the attack and squarely put the blame on Israel's shoulders while the PA citizens handed out sweets in the streets (like in many parts of the Arab world) as 600 Jews were killed. They pulled people out of their homes and shoved them into cars they stole or brought with them and others were pulled by their hairs out of cars. An 85 years old lady was taken hostage ! She needs her medicines which of course she will not get and she will probably die without them. But what do they care ?
These are not people, they are animals of the lowest type, even lower than animals as animals only kill for food ... ! I do hope that the world will now demand an end to terrorism and education towards hate before channeling more money to the Palestinians. Israel will have many more dead and wounded beyond the 600 dead and over 2,000 wounded.

It's interesting that even Israel is willing to point to the Biden administrations financial support of Iran which in turn supports Hamas.
Shooter doubts the old boy even contemplated what the consequences would be of giving Iran $6 BILLION ($6,000,000,000) but then we expect our President to be a bit sharper, eh?

And where the fuck is state in all this? Shouldn't Anthony Blinken be up front telling Hamas/Iran what will be happening to them if they don't back the fuck up?

It was clear before the 6 billion was freed what Iran would do with the money. They, just like the Palestinians, publish on their websites in Arab exactly what they want to do. On every Palestinian website in Arabic you can find that they want to destroy Israel, kill Jews and create a state "from the river to the sea". I value the American step to send the float of ships in our direction and hope it will help Hezbollah to stay out of this war. All the financial support for the PA, Hamas, Iran and other terrorist states and organisations is used for one thing only, to fight against Israel and the West. And I can promise you one thing, what happens today to the Jews / Israelis will happen next to the Western World. They will only stop when the world is all Muslim believing in Islam and Allah with Muhammed his prophet. There is only one way to solve this : fight them and defeat them. It is the only language they understand.

Israeli operations will necessarily be complex going forward, some of the ops they need to perform are covered by posters above.

The diciest part would seem to be the ground incursion into Gaza - the Hamas and PA animals will gladly suffer the collateral killings of Gaza civilians, because that is exactly what they want: to get Israel killing civilians into the international news cycle, turning the sympathy for the Israelis into condemnation.

It's unclear what Hezbollah or, for that matter, Syria, will do, but a tight watch should be maintained on the Lebanese border as well as maintaining strong control of the Golan Heights.

When Trump left office, Iran was poor, with a weak economy, but Biden, by lifting sanctions has allowed Iran to have much more oil money in their coffers - whether any of that particular (fungible) 6 billion dollars has even been touched or not.

Since coming into office, Biden has backed and basically funded Iran while paying weak lip-service to Israel.

About Iran being weak when Trump left, I totally agree. But it has to be said Biden has hit all the right buttons in standing with ISrael, sending ammunition and weapons immediately and sending war ships to support their message to Iran not to mess around with Hezbollah.
As to Israel's operations, there is no choice, we can't stop again in the middle and agree to a cease fire in order to get a similar situation again a year or two later. This has got to stop NOW. Israel will have to go in deep, accept the casualties this will bring with it, and destroy the weapon factories, arsenal of weapons and rockets once and for all. Many more terrorists will be killed no doubt about it and the civilians will be hit as well. Did you ever see a war where civilians were not hit ? What do you think, if the USA would attack with their airplanes there will not be civilian casualties ?

They made their choice, now they will unfortunately have to accept the results of that choice as well. Sad, but true.
Having sad that, after some 1,000 Israelis having been cruelly murdered, civilians having been pulled out of their homes and shot at point blank range, having taken hostage small children up to elderly people including holocaust survivors, I can't have sympathy for the Palestinians in Gaza anymore. They will get what they deserve.

Let s go back to the history of this conflict. When the state of Israel was found they have cut it off from Palestinians. Why Palestinians don t have a state of their ofwn. I m Babtised. But I found some things in Islam I appreciate such as money should not be given on rise terms, it is haram. While for Jews it is the most valuble business to do. The only one who wants unrest in the middle east is USA. Israel don t want to live in peace with its neighbours. It behaves like some kinda jerk. As far as I know Palestinians n Jews are coming from a same nation only the differ in their religion.
And look most interesting thing Jews gave us Jesus Christ and christianity, while they themsevs are not . Isn t it weird,. Why do Jews think that they must rule the world. Look around all media is controlled by them, and by owning media they can form and direct our mentality, our point of view, the way we look at things that are happening.
USA took off most of the Israely cannon shells to help Ukraine. And the last thing ,, last Saturday when it all started was mr. Putin s birthday.

    1. Ian613
What an antisemitc crap : "While for Jews it is the most valuble business to do". Sure, the Jews own the banks and the media right ? So let's go back to the history of this conflict :
There never was a Palestine, a Palestinian State or a Palestinian People before the State of Israel was born. Most so called Palestinians were immigrants that came around the same time as the Jews (Arafat was Egyptian !). Jews were murdered since the end of the 19th century, just hink of Hebron in 1929. After the State of Israel was created during the 1950's the fedayen attacked busses in Israel and killed Israelis / Jews. They came from Gaza and Jordan. Egypt conquered the Gaza strip and Jordan the West Bank. Did they create a Palestinian State there ? NO ! They kept it for themselves.

The PLO was created in 1964 and from the start was a terrorist organisation, resulting in the airplane hyjackings and taking over a vessel in the Middle East throwing a Jew in a wheelchair overboard to drown. In 1970 King Jordan faught them and expelled them from Jordan to Lebanon. Later they were expelled from there to Tunesia. They came back to the West Bank due to the Oslo accords which were quickly turned around into 2 intifadas organised and orchestrated by Arafat and the PLO. They received offers from both Ehud Barak and Ehud Olmert (PM's of Israel) of 98% of the territory with Jerusalem as their capital but they refused consistently. Why ?

Beause no Palestinian leader will be able to accept anything but a State from "the river to the sea". This is in short the true history ! Israel would sign a true peace treaty tomorrow ! Just look at the websites of Hamas and the PA and listen to their leaders speaking in Arabic (with translations) to hear the true message. So please don't bend the history and spread false history around !

Biden Slammed for Hosting BBQ While Hamas Holds Americans Captive: ‘BBQ First, America Last’

The Biden White House was reportedly in the midst of hosting a barbecue, even as Americans were announced as among those confirmed killed or taken hostage during Hamas’ surprise attack over the weekend.

The White House National Security Council verified Sunday that multiple Americans lost their lives in the unexpected assault by Hamas on Israel.

Meanwhile, on Monday, a memo detailing the scheduled barbeque was revealed.

“The President and First Lady are hosting a barbecue for White House Executive Residence staff and their families,” the memo reads.

    https://twitter.com/redsteeze/statu...lds-americans-captive-bbq-first-america-last/

In response, many expressed outrage over the event in light of reports of an unknown number of missing and murdered Americans.

“While Hamas holds Americans hostage, Joe Biden is enjoying a picnic with a live band,” wrote Republican Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri.

“READ: The president and the First Lady are hosting a bbq right now with a live band for staff while a war breaks out in the Middle East, where our own US citizens have been killed, per a pool report,” wrote reporter Jennie Taer.

“While countless Americans are being held hostage in Gaza, with attacks on civilians in Israel ongoing, President Biden is hosting a BBQ,” wrote conservative commentator Katie Pavlich.

    https://twitter.com/KatiePavlich/st...lds-americans-captive-bbq-first-america-last/

“Countless American citizens have been murdered or are currently being held hostage by Hamas, but Biden is in his back yard hosting a BBQ,” wrote political commentator Brilyn Hollyhand. “They care more about their picnic schedule than dead Americans thanks to a major U.S. intel failure.”

“Disgusting,” he added. “BBQ First, America Last.”

    https://twitter.com/BrilynHollyhand...lds-americans-captive-bbq-first-america-last/

“Americans are being held hostage by terrorists, and Biden stopped working before noon,” wrote MAGA Inc. spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt. “Having worked in the Trump White House, I can tell you President Trump would have been working in the Oval all day and night.”

“Then again – this would have never happened under his watch,” she added. “Even worse – BIDEN IS HOSTING A BARBECUE. There are no words.”

“American citizens have been taken as hostages by Hamas according to Israel Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer. In response to these reports, Secretary of State Blinken says the US is ‘working overtime.’ One person who doesn’t seem to be working overtime is Biden who is hosting a BBQ at the White House with a live band,” wrote commentator Collin Rugg, insisting that “We deserve better, America.”

“The Iranian regime planned and approved a Hamas terror invasion that killed several Americans. Dozens more Americans may be kidnapped and are missing. Senior Biden officials went on TV all day long covering up Iran’s involvement,” noted former Special Advisor for Iran Gabriel Noronha.

“And now the White House is hosting a BBQ?” he asked.

“And yet Biden is hosting a BBQ at the White House. Noted,” wrote one popular X user.

The matter comes as several Americans were killed in the Hamas attack on Israel this weekend, the White House National Security Council (NSC) confirmed Sunday.

“We can confirm the deaths of several U.S. citizens,” an NSC spokesperson said in a statement.

Earlier Sunday, Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Mike Herzog and Israeli Minister for Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer confirmed that American citizens were among Hamas’ hostages brought to Gaza.

In addition, this is what you get when you negotiate with terrorists! Even though you and biden will deny it (because that's what you do best when hiding behind your commie mask)!
But there is proof from inside Iran that they planned & approved this attack.

Hmmmmm, you have to wonder if trump was right again....!

MSM will not mention Iran and Biden removing sanctions. They are more concerned with pro Palestine protests, claiming Israeli is the aggressor. The conflict is not about who the aggressor is, the middle east has been against Israel, since the nation was established. The propaganda and finger pointing of any other reason is rhetoric to hide the racist attitudes of supremacy of muslims.

The west should keep out of this. All western countries have a large population of both Jews and moslems so unless we what battles on our streets let them fight it out there, not near our homes

Where are your borders? "Not near our homes". Terrorism knows no borders. Killing woman and children, in the name of idealism. Killing innocent people, for what? It is not to instill fear, as so many believe, it is to show followers of this peaceful religion, that killing infidels is what you do. Infidels are not human, they, that is you, are less then human, and if not converted, put into servitude, then they are to be killed, as written in the quran. The terrorist praises their god, as they kill, letting others know they will be welcomed to heaven.
Understand that, and they will not stop until muslims rule the world. So rest assured, it will come to your street, sooner or later.

So we have 2 world leaders that weigh in on this attack, China calls for cease fire & communication for resolution. Then you have Biden saying Isreal has a right to defend themselves & we're sending ships, weapons & whatever else you need..... Basically the same communications with Ukraine & Russia! Hmmmmm Has America become the sponsor for war under biden?

And how in the world did we not know this wasn't being planned with all of the communication & spy capabilities that we have? Were we too busy up twitters ass, trump and or the American citizens, that we missed it? This could have been us! Again!

When is America going to get back to protecting its citizens & our foreign allies? I hope this is a wake-up call for this dysfunctional government!!!

There is always two sides to every story. I condemn all terrorism, terrorists, and acts of terrorism. And I condemn Hamas for these attacks. And agree Israel must defeat Hamas.

But at the same time I have always opposed the State of Israel for their actions. Including Israel's own history of terrorism against the Palestinians.

I have also opposed the US blind support of Israel and have long advocated for cutting off all aid to Israel until they reach a meaningful two state solution with the Palestinians.

But right now I mourn the loss of life of innocent civilians on both sides.

One cannot compare the atrocities and the barbarism of the Hamas terrorists with the attacks of Israel. We are talking about raping women of all ages and killing them afterwards, burning groups of people alive, decapitating young children, binding them together before torturing them and in the end killing them, taking hostages from babies till elderly people including Holocaust survivors. There is NO comparison and making such a comparison is a grave mistake !!!
If you look at the video coverage you will see that many civilians assisted the terrorists and helped them with these atrocities. In Gaza there is no separation of civilians and terrorists, they are all celebrating the killing of all these innocent people, over 1,000 people tortured and killed barbarically in cold blood ! THERE IS NO COMPARISON !!!

(Reuters) - A careful campaign of deception ensured Israel was caught off guard when the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas launched its devastating attack, enabling a force using bulldozers, hang gliders and motorbikes to take on the Middle East's most powerful army.

Saturday's assault, the worst breach in Israel's defences since Arab armies waged war in 1973, followed two years of subterfuge by Hamas that involved keeping its military plans under wraps and convincing Israel it did not want a fight.

While Israel was led to believe it was containing a war-weary Hamas by providing economic incentives to Gazan workers, the group's fighters were being trained and drilled, often in plain sight, a source close to Hamas said.

This source provided many of the details for the account of the attack and its buildup that has been pieced together by Reuters. Three sources within Israel's security establishment, who like others asked not to be identified, also contributed to this account.

"Hamas gave Israel the impression that it was not ready for a fight," said the source close to Hamas, describing plans for the most startling assault since the Yom Kippur War 50 years ago when Egypt and Syria surprised Israel and made it fight for its survival.

"Hamas used an unprecedented intelligence tactic to mislead Israel over the last months, by giving a public impression that it was not willing to go into a fight or confrontation with Israel while preparing for this massive operation," the source said.

Israel concedes it was caught off guard by an attack timed to coincide with the Jewish Sabbath and a religious holiday. Hamas fighters stormed into Israeli towns, killing 700 Israelis and abducting dozens. Israel has killed more than 400 Palestinians in its retaliation on Gaza since then.

"This is our 9/11," said Major Nir Dinar, spokesperson for the Israeli Defence Forces. "They got us."

"They surprised us and they came fast from many spots - both from the air and the ground and the sea."

Osama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Lebanon, told Reuters the attack showed Palestinians had the will to achieve their goals "regardless of Israel's military power and capabilities."

    'THEY RAN RIOT'

In one of the most striking elements of their preparations, Hamas constructed a mock Israeli settlement in Gaza where they practiced a military landing and trained to storm it, the source close to Hamas said, adding they even made videos of the manoeuvres.

"Israel surely saw them but they were convinced that Hamas wasn't keen on getting into a confrontation," the source said.

Meanwhile, Hamas sought to convince Israel it cared more about ensuring that workers in Gaza, a narrow strip of land with more than two million residents, had access to jobs across the border and had no interest in starting a new war.

"Hamas was able to build a whole image that it was not ready for a military adventure against Israel," the source said.

Since a 2021 war with Hamas, Israel has sought to provide a basic level of economic stability in Gaza by offering incentives including thousands of permits so Gazans can work in Israel or the West Bank, where salaries in construction, agriculture or service jobs can be 10 times the level of pay in Gaza.

"We believed that the fact that they were coming in to work and bringing money into Gaza would create a certain level of calm. We were wrong," another Israeli army spokesperson said.

An Israeli security source acknowledged Israel's security services were duped by Hamas. "They caused us to think they wanted money," the source said. "And all the time they were involved in exercises/drills until they ran riot."

As part of its subterfuge in the past two years, Hamas refrained from military operations against Israel, even as another Gaza-based Islamist armed group known as Islamic Jihad launched a series of its own assaults or rocket attacks.

    NO INKLING

The restraint shown by Hamas drew public criticism from some supporters, again aimed at building an impression that Hamas had economic concerns not a new war on its mind, the source said.

In the West Bank, controlled by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and his Fatah group, there were those who mocked Hamas for going quiet. In one Fatah statement published in June 2022, the group accused Hamas leaders of fleeing to Arab capitals to live in "luxurious hotels and villas" leaving their people to poverty in Gaza.

A second Israeli security source said there was a period when Israel believed the movement's leader in Gaza, Yahya Al-Sinwar, was preoccupied with managing Gaza "rather than killing Jews". At the same time, Israel turned its focus away from Hamas as it pushed for a deal to normalise relations with Saudi Arabia, he added.

Israel has long prided itself on its ability to infiltrate and monitor Islamist groups. As a consequence, the source close to Hamas said, a crucial part of the plan was to avoid leaks.

Many Hamas leaders were unaware of the plans and, while training, the 1,000 fighters deployed in the assault had no inkling of the exact purpose of the exercises, the source added.

When the day came, the operation was divided into four parts, the Hamas source said, describing the various elements.

The first move was a barrage of 3,000 rockets fired from Gaza that coincided with incursions by fighters who flew hang gliders, or motorised paragliders, over the border, the source said. Israel has previously said 2,500 rockets were fired at first.

Once the fighters on hang-gliders were on the ground, they secured the terrain so an elite commando unit could storm the fortified electronic and cement wall built by Israel to prevent infiltration.

The fighters used explosives to breach the barriers and then sped across on motorbikes. Bulldozers widened the gaps and more fighters entered in four-wheel drives, scenes that witnesses described.

    'HUGE FAILURE'

A commando unit attacked the Israeli army's southern Gaza headquarters and jammed its communications, preventing personnel from calling commanders or each other, the source said.

The final part involved moving hostages to Gaza, mostly achieved early in the attack, the source close to Hamas said.

In one well-publicised hostage taking, fighters abducted party-goers fleeing a rave near the kibbutz of Re'im near Gaza. Social media footage showed dozens of people running through fields and on a road as gunshots were heard.

"How could this party happen this close (to Gaza)?" the Israeli security source said.

The Israeli security source said Israeli troops were below full strength in the south near Gaza because some had been redeployed to the West Bank to protect Israeli settlers following a surge of violence between them and Palestinian militants.

"They (Hamas) exploited that," the source said.

Dennis Ross, a former Middle East negotiator who is now at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy, said Israel had been distracted by violence in the West Bank, leading to a "thin, under-prepared presence in the south."

"Hamas probably succeeded beyond their expectation. Now they will have to deal with an Israel determined to decimate them," he said.

Retired General Yaakov Amidror, a former national security adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told reporters on Sunday the assault represented "a huge failure of the intelligence system and the military apparatus in the south."

Amidror, chairman of the National Security Council from April 2011-November 2013 and now senior fellow with the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security, said some of Israel's allies had been saying that Hamas had acquired "more responsibility".

"We stupidly began to believe that it was true," he said. "So, we made a mistake. We are not going to make this mistake again and we will destroy Hamas, slowly but surely."
