'Gibberish': Trump's rant about 'Letitia Jones' causes 'mental decline' uproar

Former President Donald Trump gave a furious speech about his legal problems in New York, in which he seemed to be confused on many issues, like calling New York Attorney General Letitia James "Letitia Jones," and mixing her up with Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is prosecuting his hush money case next week — while claiming President Joe Biden had something to do with all of it.

"They put him into the state of New York, and then into the D.A.'s office to run the case," said Trump. "This is being run by Biden. They put a man into the state, Letitia Jones, 'Peekaboo,' I call her, Peekaboo Jones, Peekaboo — they put a man into that one to, Letitia. They put a man into that one to run it, and he went into the D.A.'s office."

Commenters on social media had a field day with this rant.

"It's bad. His mental decline is getting worse by the day," wrote The Lincoln Project, a group of current and former Republicans.

"Wow. Just saw a video of Trump from a few hours ago," wrote the account The Shallow State. "His right hand was gesticulating, his left arm clutched the podium, his energy was off, and he glitched - several times (Letitia Jones) - without catching and correcting his gaffes. It was a veritable showcase of the three 'D's' - desperation, delusion, and dementia."

"Trump appears to be broken," wrote the longtime resistance account Angry Staffer on X. "Has anyone tried turning him off and back on again?"

"He mostly speaks word salad but even his word salad is struggling lately," wrote the account @JMeanypants.

"Can anyone translate this into English?" wrote the account @larrymasonbiz. "I'm not that good with gibberish."

"His handlers will never let him debate President Biden," wrote the account @ArendtDave.

We can agree that the current candidates are not the best America can offer. They are what we're stuck with for this year unless something happens to take one or both of them out. This is looking increasingly impossible.

Gotta vote, choose your options wisely.

I'm wondering what you have wished for to "take one or both of them out".
I've got my mind made up but, thanks to the electoral college system, my vote won't count for jack because I don't live in a swing state.

'He's not even clear on what he's doing': New Trump stumble draws mental acuity concerns

Donald Trump's efforts to derail an extension of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) authority has drawn more concerns that he either doesn't know what he is talking about or he has grown more confused as he ages.

During a panel discussion on MSNBC's "The Weekend," co-host Symone Sanders-Townsend kicked off the conversation by noting that the former president used his Truth Social platform to rail against a provision of FISA and botched what he was opposing.

That led co-host Alicia Menendez to jump in and state, "He's trying to make this election about Joe Biden's mental acuity when in reality it is Donald Trump who continues to get confused about things."

ALSO READ: A neuroscientist reveals how Trump and Biden's cognitive impairments are different

Displaying comments the former president made on social media, she continued, "So, 2018, he brags; 'Just signed the 702 Bill to reauthorize foreign intelligence collection. This is NOT the same FISA law that was so wrongly abused during the election.' "

"Then on Wednesday he writes: 'Kill FISA, it was used against me and others to spy on the campaign,'" she added.

"We have Fox News pointing out he confused section 702 with Title 1," she elaborated. "I mean, he's not even clear on what he's doing."

"He doesn't know," co-host Michael Steele interjected.

"He has no idea what he's talking about," former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL) pointed out.

'Adlinthin': Internet erupts over 'confused' Trump's mental 'glitches' at Saturday rally

    David McAfee
    April 13, 2024 9:04PM ET

"Adlinthin," "Magastine," and "weak nicks" are among the things Donald Trump said at his Saturday rally in Pennsylvania. The internet had a field day with all of them.

Trump this weekend gave a rally speech in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania, where he opened the talk by drawing attention to the ongoing Iranian attacks on Israel. But political onlookers and citizen journalists were quick to point out the former president's "glitches" that occurred throughout the campaign event.

Trump in one instance said that the people of Israel are under attack because the United States has shown "great weak nicks." Actress Morgan Fairchild was quick to point that one out.

"Weak NICKS?" she asked on social media following Trump's comment.

@JoJoFromJerz said, "'Weak nicks' sounds like a knock-off Crazy Eddie where they only sell shitty made in China Trump merch."

"Trump’s decline continues," the @TrumpsTaxes account wrote.

In another instance, as Trump was calling Rolling Stone a liberal outlet, he accidentally called it a "magastine."

Then the Joe Biden rapid response team, Biden-Harris HQ, stepped up to the plate.

"Trump, confused: This was a magastine that I’ve never read," the account wrote.

@Leslieannscott wrote, "What is a magastine???"

In a third example, Trump at his rally was talking about immigration when he invented the word "adlinthin," according to onlookers.

"Just last week it was reported that an illegal adlinthin-- and you just look at this, what's happening," he said Saturday.

Journalist Bill Grueskin chimed in on that one.

"Hmm. That sounded more like 'adledirthin' than 'adlinthin' which if true kind of changes everything," he wrote.

@JoJoFromJerz added, "We see what’s happening alright. It’s called dementia. And it’s getting worse."

@Trumpnado2016 asked, "What's an adelethelin?" The account added, "We all fumble words, but these Trump glitches are getting really weird."

I think this is probably right. There's an old advertising adage. Year in and year out sex sells. And this trial will be full of sex. and will draw a lot of attention. And nothing will change the minds of Trump's treasonous conservative/America Hating/Republicans but this will have a negative impact on independents and moderate Republicans. But especially women who will have a negative reaction to Trump being a cheater when Melania was home with his baby, and then attacking he women he had affairs with.

Raskin Argues Trump World is Dead Wrong to Think Hush Money Trial Will Be a Political Win: They’ll ‘Be Shocked How Tuned in America is’
    Phillip NietoApr 14th, 2024, 5:44 pm

Rep. Jamie Raskin (R-MD) claimed that former President Donald Trump’s hush money trial will not be a political win for the Republican nominee.

The Maryland lawmaker joined MSNBC host Jen Psaki for an interview on Sunday where he discussed the Republican nominee’s upcoming criminal trial and the effect it will have on the November 2024 election with voters.

Trump is expected to stand trial on Monday in his New York criminal case over allegations he paid hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 election. The former president faces three other criminal indictments for his efforts to overturn the 2020 election and his handling of classified documents.

Raskin noted that Trump’s supporters are trying to diminish the significance of the trial, but noted it is “a very serious case” and the American people will be paying attention to the result.

PSAKI: As we look to this week, a criminal trial starting tomorrow, how should we think about this moment in history?

RASKIN: Well, you know, Trump’s people would like to trivialize and diminish the meaning of this trial, but in fact, it’s, perfectly emblematic of the others that are out there. They’re all about electoral interference and manipulation. They tried it with violence. And we’re going to see that in the DC case. They tried it with fraud. We’re going to see that in the Georgia case. And here they tried it with payoffs and then cooking the books. Financial manipulation. That’s what it’s about. It’s a very serious case. And I think the Trump people are going to be shocked how tuned-in America is to what’s going on here.

The thing is, clinton broke that particular mold with a blow job and a cigar.

Then we learned that brandon was scrubbing his prepubescent daughters back.

Both of these ocurred while the miscreants were government employees.

So trump having a one night stand AS A PRIVATE CITIZEN and trying to keep it from his wife isn't quite as earth shattering as the government coverups for clinton and brandon.

Maggie Haberman Reports Trump ‘Appears To Be Sleeping’ LIVE From Court
    Tommy ChristopherApr 15th, 2024, 1:00 pm

CNN commentator and New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman reported former President Donald Trump “appears to be sleeping” in the courtroom at his election interference-hush money trial.

Trump’s trial — on 34 felony counts in the case that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has brought involving hush money payments to porn star Stormy Danielsbegan Monday morning with jury selection.

CNN was on the scene with branded coverage entitled “Trump Hush Money Trial” featuring custom graphics and live coverage outside the courthouse.

But Haberman and her Times colleagues provided live text updates from the trial, one of which could prove embarrassing for Trump.

Minutes before the trial broke for lunch, Jonah Bromwich wrote “We are sitting through a somewhat dull discussion about an important issue: Last month, the judge, seeking to stem a flood of defense motions meant in part to delay the trial, asked the defense to give notice when it sought to make a new argument. Ever since, the defense has sought to turn that very order, meant to combat delays, into a delay tactic. That includes right now.”

Several minutes later, Haberman wrote “Trump appears to be sleeping. His head keeps dropping down and his mouth goes slack.”

A few minutes later, Haberman provided a Trump sleeping update, writing “Trump has apparently jolted back awake, noticing the notes his lawyer passed him several minutes ago.”

About ten minutes after that, one of Haberman’s colleagues wrote “Justice Merchan says that the prospective jurors, who haven’t even come to the courtroom yet, are now on their lunch break. As such, we are also now breaking to eat and will be back at 1:30 p.m.”

Ironically, one of Trump’s many nicknames for President Joe Biden is “Sleepy Joe” — a moniker that may become outdated following the lapse.

Haberman made an appearance on CNN shortly thereafter to recount her reporting to anchor Jake Tapper.

Watch above via CNN’s “Trump Hush Money Trial” coverage.

'Old and weak': Observers roast Trump for taking 'nap time' at hush-money trial

Former President Donald Trump reportedly nodded off during the first day of his hush-money trial in New York on Monday, and it didn't take long for his internet critics to pounce.

According to New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, Trump's head on Monday kept "dropping down" while in court, with his mouth going "slack."

Given all of the jokes that Trump has made about his political opponents' stamina over the years, including his decision to label President Joe Biden as "Sleepy Joe" in 2020, many users on Twitter mocked him for not even being able to stay awake at his own criminal trial for a day.

"If Trump is too old and weak to stay awake at his own criminal trial, what do you think will happen in the Situation Room?" asked Pod Save America host Dan Pfeiffer.

"Sleepy Don ... doesn’t have the stamina, the strength, the manhood to endure even a few hours in court," cracked anti-Trump strategist Rick Wilson. "Sad! Weak! Low-T!"

The anti-Trump Lincoln Project, of which Wilson is a cofounder, sarcastically asked, "Where's Mike Lindell when you need him," a reference to the Trump-loving pillow monger who became infamous for spouting false claims about voting machines stealing the 2020 election from Trump.

"Poor baby," joked Twitter user Alison Berkowitz. "Nap time!"

The Twitter account for Republican Voters Against Trump noted the irony of Trump dozing off given his nickname for Biden.

"'Sleepy Joe' is projection, like everything else," they wrote.

David DeWitt, a former courts reporter and current editor-in-chief at the Ohio Capital Journal, noted that he "never saw a felony defendant sleep during his criminal trial like Trump apparently is doing."

Twitter user Francis Maxwell, meanwhile, pondered just how the president's staunchest supporters would spin him falling asleep.

"How long before the MAGA cultists claim Trump was actually deep in prayer as opposed to taking a catnap during his own criminal trial?" he wondered.

Twitter user Liz Chausse, however, jokingly posited that Trump falling asleep might not be entirely his own fault because "they probably sedated him."

Poor MAGA Haberman. Multiple reporters in the court room reported on Trump falling asleep. But apparently Trump is just blaming her.

Former President Donald Trump reportedly turned an angry gaze toward New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman after she broke news that he may have been sleeping in court.

During the first day of his hush money trial, several reporters observed that Trump appeared to fall asleep.

"Former President Donald J. Trump seemed alternately irritated and exhausted Monday morning," Haberman wrote in the Times. "Mr. Trump appeared to nod off a few times, his mouth going slack and his head drooping onto his chest."

ALSO READ: A neuroscientist explains how Trump is using existential fear to win the election

In a break in court proceedings, courtroom reporter Frank Runyeon observed Trump's reaction to Haberman.

"After the thirty-some jurors remaining file out of the room for a brief afternoon break, Trump rises," Runyeon wrote. "After the jurors leave the courtroom, he stares over at DA Alvin Bragg. Then Trump turns his eyes to the press pool. As he exits, he glares at New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman for several seconds as he walks out."

Trump is facing 34 charges involving accusations he arranged for hush money payments to adult movie actress Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair. The charges involve business fraud, because the payments were allegedly filed as a business expence, and election interference.

Trump is accused of wanting to buy Daniels' silence because he was concerned about the effect her story would have on 2016 election voters.

He has denied all the charges.

Former President Donald Trump was seen apparently "nodding off" during his hush money trial for allegedly covering up a sex scandal.

On Trump's first day in the Manhattan courtroom, reporters spotted him looking as though he was falling asleep as attorneys discussed rules for jury selection.

"It very much looks like Trump is dozing off right now," courtroom reporter Stewart Bishop observed on X.

"Tough to see the screen in the overflow room, but I swear Trump is nodding off at the defense table," reporter Erik Uebelacker agreed. "His chin just hit his chest, then his head shot back up. We've all been there."

Trump is facing 34 counts of falsifying business records after his attorney, Michael Cohen, made hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels to cover up an alleged affair.

    He has denied the allegations.

Trump does not have the stamina for a trial like this. He has always lead a pampered life with his mind bouncing like a pinball. Where he can do anything he wants and never has to concentrate and/or focus. So when all that is taken away from him he just falls asleep.

Reporter catches Trump dozing off in court — again

NEW YORK, NEW YORK - APRIL 16: Former U.S. President Donald Trump attends jury selection with his attorneys (L-R) Todd Blanche, Emil Bove and Susan Necheles on the second day of his trial for allegedly covering up hush money payments at Manhattan Criminal Court on April 16, 2024 in New York City. Trump was charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records last year, which prosecutors say was an effort to hide a potential sex scandal, both before and after the 2016 presidential election. Former President Donald Trump really seems to be having a difficult time keeping himself alert during his criminal trial.

Frank G. Runyeon, a reporter for Law 360, brings word on his Twitter account that the former president started nodding off again in court on Tuesday morning.

In fact, Trump had such trouble staying awake on Tuesday that Runyeon could give a detailed blow-by-blow account.

"Trump's head slowly dropped, his eyes closed," he reported. "It jerked back upward. He adjusts himself. Then, his head droops again. He straightens up, leaning back. His head drops for a third time, he shakes his shoulders. Eyes closed still. His head drops. Finally, he pops his eyes open."

This comes just one day after New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman and other journalists spied Trump dozing during the first day of his criminal trial on Monday, which sparked furious denials from Trump and his allies.

Trump is in court this week for a case related to allegations that he falsified business records to cover up hush-money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election in which he defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Heading into court on Tuesday, Trump once again angrily attacked Judge Juan Merchan for hitting him with a gag order that prevents him from attacking witnesses at the trial.

Trump's trial related to hush-money payments is far from the only legal trouble he faces, and many legal experts have called the other charges that have been leveled against him -- including allegedly trying to defraud the United States with a scheme to illegally stay in power and allegedly obstructing government efforts to retrieve top-secret government documents from his Mar-a-Lago resort -- as significantly more serious.

Donald Trump appeared in court for a second day of jury selection Tuesday and, once again, appeared to doze off in the morning session.

Several reporters had made the same observation Monday, with one noticing a jolt after his head slumped down slack-jawed, and another saying his chin hit his chest.

On Tuesday, Law 360 reporter Frank G. Runyeon described seeing a similar thing.

"Trump's head slowly dropped, his eyes closed. It jerked back upward. He adjusts himself. Then, his head droops again. He straightens up, leaning back. His head [drops] for a third time, he shakes his shoulders. Eyes closed still. His head drops. Finally, he pops his eyes open."

Without cameras in the courtroom to confirm, MSNBC's Andrea Mitchell said Trump could be asleep or he could be "resting his eyes."

But internet commenters were happy to take the courtroom reporters at their word.

"True to his word, he ain’t woke," mocked one activist using the hashtag #DonSnoreleone, a reference to fictional mafia boss Vito "Don" Corleone from "The Godfather."

Others made a similar observation, with one cartoonist describing it as part of Trump's "war on woke."

Former liberal host Keith Olbermann posted a screen capture of a recent Trump rant reading in all-caps: "My trial is an assault on America!"

Olbermann retorted, "...but apparently not so much an assault that Trump can't sleep through it."

Others went further with the mafia theme, knocking Trump as "The Nodfather." One person mocked up a fake movie posted with Trump as the mafia boss. The mock quote from the film said: "Even criminals need a nap."

Some photoshopped images using Trump to help promote Mike Lindell's "My Pillow" for court.

Political cartoonist Clay Jones illustrated a photo of a sleeping Trump admitting to crimes by talking in his sleep.
