I'm just sitting here wondering what happened. This forum used to be so much fun. Oh sure... GD has always been a cesspool of hate and anger, and Sexuality makes you feel like you need some hand sanitizer after you click on it, and Personals is creepy and sad, but...

Games was always fun, and the saving grace for me was always here in the Stories section. Now things seem so far gone. Does anyone care, or am I the only one watching the fun slowly fly away?

Who are the active writers? We only see them in a CAW or a KAW. Most of the other stories posted are just horrible. You all used to be a group. A "community". What happened?

 

I admit I am guilty of not participating more. You are right @HisBabyGirl. Actually I have a hard time calling them stories. They're just mumbled, mush mouth, gibberish in some alien language.

Just saying.

 

I'm assuming you were serious but this gave me a chuckle. It says you joined in 2011 and if you came to the story forum back then on a regular basis then you should have seen more writer feuds, more badmouthing each other and backstabbing than there were threads practically. There may have been periods of peace here and there and there are some seemingly decent, reasonable members like WSF but this 'community' myth in my opinion is just that - a myth. Not that I'm saying its all bad here or anything and maybe its part of human nature to always be searching for paradise lost. If there is peace now its because there aren't enough active members left to have a proper feud and not just at story forum but xnxx forum as a whole along with sexstories site. ejls tried to foster the sense of community by starting the Calling All Writers Challenge which morphed into the CAW. The idea was to get writers off their collective butts and writing by stating a common loose theme and, as ejls said, "double-dog-daring" us to write about it. It worked. In many early CAWs there were twenty entries, sometimes more.

By its nature, CAW and the offshoot KAW are competitions. We write, we read, we vote, and someone wins. Winning is great. However, since the whole thing is not only not sponsored by the site -- it's largely ignored -- you don't get an actual prize unless the host feels like providing it. You get fifteen minutes of fame and the honor (?) of running the next one. You also don't get to enter your own competition, so any kick-ass idea you have will need to be a non-entry or something you save for another time. Sucks to be you.

Competition brings out both the best and worst in some people. We've seen voter fraud, advertising, and even plagiarism by writers who didn't get the basic concept -- we're supposed to write the best story WE can and put it out there for review by our peers.

The rules changes and censorship were the stated reasons for some writers leaving. Others felt genuinely threatened by angry trolls who interfered with their personal lives. Still others simply moved on.

Two's company, three's a crowd, and four's a community. We have problems. Always, have, always will.

Now, even though it's the holidays, and you're busy, and you can't be hanging out on a porn site with the family around, and no one gave you a theme anyway -- now you should start writing on a brand new idea.

I fucking hate what this site is becoming!

 

Chin up Unc, no matter the level of discourse at this site (or the country as a whole) as of yet I haven't heard of anyone advocating for the return of Prohibition. That would be something to worry about.
