On President Trump giving the military leaders freer reign, let's not forget the hero of VietNam General William Westmoreland. Military leaders, he proved, can be as politically motivated as politicians. Left completely to his own devices he would have killed or maimed every US service member in the shit. His motto should have been, "Win by using the most body bags."

Sharing Of Nude Photos Of Female Marines Online Prompts Pentagon Investigation

Hundreds of Marines are reportedly under investigation by the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, after a trove of photographs were shared online that show female service members and veterans in the nude. The images were spread via a closed Facebook group with thousands of members.

When the photos were shared via Marines United — a Facebook group that's intended only for male Marines and Marine veterans — they drew bawdy and obscene comments, according to two nonprofit news sites: the War Horse and the Center for Investigative Reporting.

According to War Horse founder Thomas James Brennan, many of the photos on the Marines United page included personal information about the female service members, from their name, rank and duty station to the names of their social media accounts.

The Facebook page also included links to a Google Drive with even more images — and an invitation to any members to contribute photos. The images were obtained in a variety of ways, Brennan reports, from sharing by former partners to stalking and, potentially, the hacking of service members' personal accounts.

in a statement about what it calls "social media misconduct." The service says those involved could face charges based on at two portions of the Uniform Code of Military Justice — one that involves consent and an expectation of privacy, and another that centers on distributing indecent material.

"A Marine who directly participates in, encourages, or condones such actions could also be subjected to criminal proceedings or adverse administrative actions," the Marine Corps says.

At least two people have already been punished, according to Brennan: a Marine veteran who worked as a government subcontractor was fired after being the first to post a Google Drive link to the photos; and a service member was fired for secretly taking photos of a woman who was picking up gear at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

"He was standing close enough to smell my perfume," that Marine tells Brennan. She added, "This is going to follow me – just like he did."

There's also been a backlash against Brennan, according to Marine Corps Times:

"The news report was authored by Thomas Brennan, an Iraq and Afghanistan combat veteran and Purple Heart recipient who founded The War Horse in 2016. The nonprofit news site focuses on military and veterans affairs, and tales of combat heroism.

"After its publication, several members of the Facebook group lashed out at Brennan, making threats against him and his family."

The revelation that hundreds, and perhaps thousands, of female service members have been targeted by their fellow Marines has set off intense reactions from members of the military service that often touts its motto: Semper Fidelis — "Always Faithful."

Here's one reaction to the Marine Corps' statement on its Facebook page, from a female captain:

"What bothers me more than the actions of these few and the inaction of their small-unit leaders is the number of commenters here and other places justifying the FB page. These are weak, leaderless men, probably low performers afraid of being outpaced, denigrating women in order to feel superior. And doing it online with Internet bravado. Pathetic. Some of them may be teachable, will learn from this, and grow up to be worthy of the title, but they're not there yet."

I heard about this story earlier in the week and was disheartened to listen to this and it does not bode well for our Marine Corp .

It was only a matter of time for that to come out and the actions of a few will fuck it up for the many and the UCMJ will be tightened due to this revelation .
I was confronted here a few times as to my being so vague in my posts and it was implied I may be hiding my true identity when in reality all I do is protect my ass from stepping over the lines established for active military personnel as to representing our military in a respectful and courteous matter AT ALL TIMES and I couldn't care less if others think I am as was once said , full of shit . I do not have it in me to speak ill of any member of the military and especially not against the fine women that work doubly hard to fit in . Some people are not fit to wear our uniform !

Father of slain soldier who criticized Trump says travel rights reviewed
    By Gina Cherelus

The father of an American soldier killed in Iraq who came under criticism last year from then-candidate Donald Trump said he has canceled a speaking engagement in Toronto after being notified that his U.S. travel privileges were under review.

Khizr Khan, an American citizen born in Pakistan, said he had not been given a reason as to why his travel privileges were being reviewed. He did not say what kind of review he was subject to, which U.S. agency ordered it or who told him of the change.

"This turn of events is not just of deep concern to me but to all my fellow Americans who cherish our freedom to travel abroad," Khan said in a statement issued by the engagement organizer on Monday. "I am grateful for your support and look forward to visiting Toronto in the near future."

Khan had planned to speak at a luncheon in Toronto on Tuesday in a discussion about President Trump's administration, according to Ramsay Talks, a Toronto-based speaker series hosted by Bob Ramsay.

Khan declined to comment further in an email exchange with Reuters.

The organization said in the same statement that Khan, a U.S. citizen for over 30 years, was notified Sunday evening that his travel privileges were being reviewed.

"Mr. Khan will not be traveling to Toronto on March 7th to speak about tolerance, understanding, unity and the rule of law," said Ramsay Talks, which announced guests would be refunded the ticket price of C$89.

U.S. Customs & Border Protection said it does not contact travelers in advance of their travel out of the United States, according to an official who said any U.S. citizen with a passport may travel out of the country. CBP would not comment specifically on the Khan case, citing privacy protections.

Jeff Khurgel, an attorney at the Khurgel Immigration Law Firm in Irvine, California, said there is no valid reason under U.S. immigration law that would keep naturalized U.S. citizens from having the same travel rights and privileges as a natural born U.S. citizen.

"Theoretically, if the government had any criminal information on any U.S. citizen they have a right to question them under law, but it would be very rare to revoke their travel privileges unless they have been charged with a crime," Khurgel said.

Trump signed a revised executive order on Monday banning citizens from six Muslim-majority nations from traveling to the United States, but Pakistan is not one of those countries and the ban does not apply to U.S. citizens or legal permanent U.S. residents.

Khan and his wife, Ghazala Khan, appeared at the Democratic National Convention in support of presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and shared the story of their son, U.S. Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed during the Iraq war.

He also criticized Trump's proposal during the election campaign for a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States.

During his speech, Khan asked Trump if he had ever read the U.S. Constitution and said that he would gladly lend him his copy. He urged Trump to "look for the words liberty and equal protection of law" in the document.

Trump responded by questioning whether Clinton's aides scripted Khan's speech and questioned whether Ghazala Khan was allowed to speak.

Khan and Trump went on to exchange further criticism, dominating the presidential campaign for several days over the summer.

So, Government policy is not to review US Citizen travel plans in advance, but this fellow is notified that his travel "privileges" are under review.

Gonna need some more confirmation on this one before Shooter comments further.

      not only that, but:
Well then, all the more deserving of making a news story, eh? So, all we know is, someone who doesn't like Trump told someone in the media that someone told him that his travel privileges were being reviewed.

U.S. military deploys advanced defensive missile system to South Korea, citing North Korean threat

By Dan Lamothe March 7 at 3:42 AM

The U.S. military began deploying an advanced defensive missile system to South Korea on Monday, a long-awaited move that was agreed upon with the government in Seoul last summer and follows a series of provocations by North Korea.

The Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system does not use warheads and is designed to shoot down enemy ballistic missiles like the ones launched by Pyongyang into the Sea of Japan on Sunday. The deployment comes despite protests from Chinese officials, who have said repeatedly over the last year that it is a threat to Chinese security.

“Continued provocative actions by North Korea, to include yesterday’s launch of multiple missiles, only confirm the prudence of our alliance decision last year to deploy THAAD to South Korea,” said Navy Adm. Harry Harris, the chief of U.S. Pacific Command. “We will resolutely honor our alliance commitments to South Korea and stand ready to defend ourselves, the American homeland, and our allies.”

The deployment was announced as North Korean state media reported that the four missiles Pyongyang launched Sunday were practice for a North Korean attack on U.S. military bases in Japan. Three of the missiles traveled about 600 miles over North Korea and the Sea of Japan before landing inside of Japan’s exclusive economic zone. The fourth landed just outside the EEZ.

North Korea also is believed to have thousands of artillery cannons aimed at its southern neighbor, a particular concern for Seoul because the city of 10 million is within range, 35 miles from North Korea’s border.

Each THAAD battery includes at least six truck-mounted launchers that carry up to eight missiles each. U.S. military officials stress that it provides strictly defensive capabilities, but it also possesses powerful radar that Chinese officials are concerned will be used to observe Chinese airspace.

“We firmly oppose the deployment of THAAD,” said Geng Shuang, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry at a daily press briefing in Beijing on Tuesday. “We will resolutely take necessary measures to defend our security interests.”

“All the consequences from this will be borne by the U.S. and the ROK,” he added. “We strongly urge relevant parties to stop deploying it and not travel down the wrong path.”

South Korea’s left-wing opposition parties also sharply criticized the government’s “unilateral, rushed” move to deploy the THAAD battery ahead of schedule.

The government “has completely disregarded public calls and demands from political circles with regard to the THAAD deployment,” said Youn Kwan-suk, the spokesman for the Democratic Party.

“From the clandestine push for the deployment to the process of making the final decision on the installation, the government has unilaterally pressed ahead with it without any consultations with citizens,” he said, according to the Yonhap news agency.

Several key details of the deployment have not yet been finalized and the land where the battery will be housed is not yet ready, opposition politicians said. But South Korean defense officials said they would keep the equipment at the U.S. air base at Osan until the site was ready.

When Seoul and Washington agreed last year on the THAAD unit, they were aiming for deployment by the end of July, although it had been expedited and was expected to arrive between June and August.

With the arrival of the first components, they could have it up and running sooner. “The deployment could be completed within one or two months, and it can be operational as early as April,” a South Korean military official told reporters in Seoul.

Conservative politicians said that North Korea’s latest missile launches underscored the urgent need for THAAD.

“We welcome the right decision to deploy THAAD when North Korea threatens the security of the Republic of Korea and Northeast Asia by firing as many as four ballistic missiles,” said Kim Sung-won, the spokesman for the ruling Liberty Korea Party.

The timing is politically sensitive because the president, Park Geun-hye, is likely to find out this week whether she will be impeached. The Constitutional Court is expected to issue its decision as soon as Friday on whether to uphold a parliamentary motion to force Park out of office over a corruption scandal.

Moon Jae-in, the leading liberal candidate for the presidency, has said he would respect agreements between governments, but has also suggested that he might ask parliament to revisit the THAAD deployment.

The United States and South Korea began discussing the deployment of THAAD more than a year ago, and reached an agreement to do so in July. Then-president Barrack Obama reaffirmed U.S. commitment to the deployment in October, saying Washington and Seoul have worked together to prepare for any threat. He specifically cited THAAD as an example, while calling it “a purely defensive system to deter and defend against North Korean threats.”

Defense Secretary Jim Mattis made his first trip as Pentagon chief to Seoul and Tokyo in January, and said then that he anticipated THAAD would arrive in South Korea this year.

“THAAD is for defenses of our ally’s people, of our troops who are committed to their defenses,” Mattis said.

Anna Fifield contributed to this report.

Kim will froth and shout that THAAD is a provocative escalation.
    So it is.
Provocative in that Kim understands his missiles can be shot down before they even get out of the country.

If only he were insane enough to arm them while still in N Korean airspace as we knock them out of the sky ! That would save a lot of countries some grief although fallout would make it to S Korea unfortunately .

    This one is worth reading.
Kyle Smith is an Air Force K-9 handler who served with his dog Bodza in Kyrgystan in 2012. When Bodza retired, Smith was paired with another dog, but was also able to adopt Bodza and bring him home.

Last week, due to health issues, the 11 year old dog had to be euthanized. Kyle held him and comforted him. It was after Bodza was gone that the focus of this story surfaces. Smiths fellow officers learned that Bodza was being put down, and arrived at the vets office just after it had been done.

They brought with them a US Flag to drape Bodza's body in, a practice the military follows for all fallen soldiers.

Having put down a family friend Shooter can relate to Smith's loss.

Rest in Peace, Bodza, and thank you for your service.

For all of you that complain about flying economy , try spending near 20 hours in the belly of a C-130 transport to appreciate that economy seat on a commercial airliner . They refer the these seats as jump seats but I now will rename them torture !

The point of this post though is that we would like to thank the people of the Canadian Forces Air Base in Goose Bay where we set down to refuel at their installation . It was brought to my attention that the US had a Naval Station not far from there at Argentia Newfoundland until 1994 and I did some research on it and if anyone is interested , it is worth reading up on if you are a Naval buff .

It was a rush to set foot back on American soil after a 3 1/2 month absence and I think a drink is in order to recognize that . Tomorrow is another day but tonight is for acclimating to home and time to put my feet up and not give a care in the world for anything but myself for a moment .

It makes sense, being deployed to South Korea, that they would be defensive only, and capability against ICBM's would not be needed.

At a cost of 1.6 Billion per unit that is a lot it doesn't do ... even our company's drones are more cost effective than that !!!

Then again there was resistence to the Patriot Batteries years ago too in the midddle east and they did ok.

Since 1998, when North Korea launched a Taepodong-1 missile over northern Japan, the Japanese have been jointly developing a new surface-to-air interceptor known as the Patriot Advanced Capability 3 (PAC-3) with the US. So far tests have been successful, and there are planned 11 locations that the PAC-3 will be installed. A military spokesman[40] said that tests had been done on two sites, one of them a business park in central Tokyo, and Ichigaya – a site not far from the Imperial Palace. Along with the PAC-3, Japan has installed a US-developed ship-based anti-ballistic missile system, which was tested successfully on 18 December 2007. The missile was launched from a Japanese warship, in partnership with the US Missile Defense Agency and destroyed a mock target launched from the coast.

Japan is in consultations with the United States to possibly deploy the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system and a ground-based version of the Standard Missile-3 interceptors mounted on Aegis destroyers. In a joint US-Japan test of Standard Missile-3 Block IIa, a medium-range ballistic missile was successfully intercepted on 3 February 2017.[41][42] Japan's intention is to create a four-stage anti-missile shield.[43]

The US prepares to 'incapacitate' Kim: USS Carl Vinson carrying huge fleet of fighter jets arrives in South Korea as military sources reveal plan to 'remove' Jong-un's war chiefs
    • USS Carl Vinson arrived at the southern port of Busan, in South Korea, to join the annual joint military exercise
    • South Korea military source says heightened presence is part of plan to decapitate North Korean leadership
    • Pyongyang has long condemned the annual joint drills - called Foal Eagle - between South Korea and the US
    • Tensions have escalated with missile launches from North and assassination of Kim Jong-Un's half-brother

A growing US presence off the Korean Peninsula is reportedly part of a plan aimed at 'incapacitating' Kim Jong-Un's despotic regime in Pyongyang should conflict break out.

A nuclear-powered US aircraft carrier arrived in South Korea on Wednesday for joint military exercises in the latest show of force against the North.

The USS Carl Vinson arrived at the southern port of Busan as US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson began a tour of the region, where tensions have escalated in recent weeks with missile launches from the nuclear-armed North and the assassination of Kim Jong-Un's estranged half-brother in Malaysia.

More than 80 aircraft, including the fighter aircraft F/A-18F Super Hornet, the E-2C Hawkeye and the carrier-based EA-18G Growler are on board the supercarrier.

South Korea's Yonhap News Agency claims the heightened military presence is part of a plan to decapitate North Korean leadership.

They claim a military official, who wished to remain anonymous, told them: 'A bigger number of and more diverse U.S. special operation forces will take part in this year's Foal Eagle and Key Resolve exercises to practice missions to infiltrate into the North, remove the North's war command and demolition of its key military facilities.'

The aircraft carrier and a US destroyer will conduct naval drills including an anti-submarine manoeuvre with South Koreans in waters off the Korean peninsula as part of the annual Foal Eagle exercise.

Washington insist they are purely defensive in nature.

Rear Admiral James Kilby, commander of USS Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group 1, said: 'The importance of the exercise is to continue to build our alliance and our relationship and strengthen that working relationship between our ships.'

Yonhap news agency said the navy drills will begin next week.

The US has also started to deploy 'Gray Eagle' attack drones to South Korea, a military spokesman revealed on Monday.

South Korean and U.S. troops began the large-scale joint drills on March 1.

The exercise last year involved about 17,000 American troops and more than 300,000 South Koreans. This year's exercise is expected to be of a similar scale.

The spike in tensions has concerned Beijing, with China's Foreign Ministry calling on all sides to end 'a vicious cycle that could spiral out of control.'

North Korea, which has alarmed its neighbours with two nuclear tests and a string of missile launches since last year, said the arrival of the US strike group was part of a 'reckless scheme' to attack it.

The North Korea's state KCNA news agency said: 'If they infringe on the DPRK's sovereignty and dignity even a bit, its army will launch merciless ultra-precision strikes from ground, air, sea and underwater.

'On March 11 alone, many enemy carrier-based aircraft flew along a course near territorial air and waters of the DPRK to stage drills of dropping bombs and making surprise attacks on the ground targets of its army,' KCNA said.

Last week, North Korea fired four ballistic missiles into the sea off Japan in response to annual U.S.-South Korea military drills, which the North sees as preparation for war.

The murder in Malaysia last month of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's estranged half-brother has added to the sense of urgency to efforts to get a grip on North Korea.

Visiting the headquarters of an army unit early this month, Kim praised his troops for their 'vigilance against the US and South Korean enemy forces that are making frantic efforts for invasion', according to the North's official KCNA news agency.

Kim also ordered the troops to 'set up thorough countermeasures of a merciless strike against the enemy's sudden air assault', it said.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is due to make his first visit to South Korea on Friday.

The threat represented by North Korea's growing nuclear and missile arsenal is the main reason for his trip to the region.

Tillerson arrives in Tokyo on Wednesday, moves on Friday to Seoul, which is in the grip of a political crisis, and then travels the next day to Beijing to hold talks with President Xi Jinping and other officials.

Last week, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations said President Donald Trump's administration was re-evaluating its North Korea strategy and 'all options are on the table'.

Most people can't grasp the sheer size of an F/A-18 Super Hornet so here is a comparison image to scale it against . Look at all of the neat toys on that bird .

Those neat toys are simply spare tunks for additional fuel.

PLANES ON THE USS CARL VINSON
The aircraft carrier, commissioned in 1982, is the centerpiece of the 7,500-sailor strike group. The 100,000-ton ship measures 333 meters in length and 77 meters in width.

The Carl Vinson has been involved in a number of notable events including Operation Iraqi Freedom. The ship also received huge attention in 2011 when the body of Osama bin Laden was buried at sea from its deck.

More than 80 aircraft, including the fighter aircraft F/A-18F Super Hornet, the E-2C Hawkeye and the carrier-based EA-18G Growler are on board the supercarrier.

The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is the U.S. Navy's primary strike and air superiority aircraft.

The E-2C Hawkeye is the U.S. Navy's primary carrier-based airborne early warning and command and control aircraft.

The EA-18G Growler is the U.S. Navy's newest electronic attack aircraft intended to replace ageing EA-6B Prowlers in the service's fleet.

As part of his plans to bolster the military, President Trump has vowed to expand the number of carriers the US fields from 10 to 12.

And he promised to bring down the cost of building three 'super-carriers,' which has ballooned by a third over the last decade from $27 to $36 billion.

For those that are not familiar with AC Carriers , the planes are launched with a CATOBAR or Catapult Assisted Take-Off But Arrested Recovery or Catapult Assisted Take-Off Barrier Arrested Recovery . It is steam driven .
They are currently developing EMALS or electromagnetic aircraft launch system .

That is very interesting...nice to have you around...
Guess before too long we will be hearing how Trump is about to start a war....

If a North Korea jet was to buzz our ship do you think we take it out?

Considering it's moored in South Korea right now I would hope so ...

I am so glad I am to old to fight wars I don't envy those sailors on that rig.

Hopefully people see that this show of force is a deterrent RK and not chest beating by Trump. Kim drew a line in the sand some time back launching missiles during an official visit to South Korea. The US is there to help protect it's allies but I think you are right in your comment and some will backspin it into aggression on Trumps part.

Not a FUCKING CHANCE dude. I have the utmost respect for all military personnel and to diminish their job would be a great injustice to them.

I did my time in the trenches back in my day and made it out because we were a tight unit and I know the sacrifice that they make every day ...

I was trying to be nice to you and I answered with respect so fuck you if you want to go there lol.

Cool stories military dude and interesting sidenotes. I don't envy you armed forces members but wish all of you a safe return and godspeed.

Could this evolve into a ground war if it does come to a head and where does Russia stand on this display ???

Oh ya, good luck with your heavy date that you mentioned in the "smile" thread.
