But let me point out your stupid fallacy here. Its a nice thought. And something I have always believed myself and instilled in ny own kids. But it ignores a very simple reality. Right now we have a 4.3 unemployment rate and that is considered full employment. We also have a few million people not counted in that figure because they have become so discouraged by looking for a job and not finding one they have given up looking for one. At least for the time being.

So in the very best of times there are millions more Americans looking for or wanting a job than there are jobs. And so our social safety net is the only thing that keeps millions of men, women, and children from starving and dying in the streets. And there is nothing more stupid and cruel than telling people to go out and get jobs that do not exist. Its just another indication of people who live in a fantasy world instead of the real one.

There are plenty of jobs on the market, it has become a joke.

People are lead to beleive by the federal fucking governemnt that they are too good to take a job that doesn't pay them $100,000 annually.

For fuck sake, I need employees...no one wants to work.

I have no problem with people collecting unemployment, as they have paid into that while working. They are required to be actively seeking employment while they're looking. I've lost jobs, and have needed unemployment while I was out of work. I'm referring to people who are able to work, but choose not to. I know several people like this. I have a family member who refuses to work, and relies on food stamps, section 8 housing etc. I find this wrong as she can work, but chooses not to.

 

Don't talk about my fallacy...

I'm able to work. I choose not to. But I'm ineligible for food stamps, and no way in hell would I move into section 8 housing, so I choose not to. LOL

Just one question. Are there more jobs in this country than people willing to work? Are there more people willing to work than there are jobs? You can answer that simple question can't you?

 

According to Dept of Labor statistics, there are currently 5.7 million jobs available and 6.9 million people out of work. 52.2 million people in the US receive government support according to US Census.

Now is that just the amount of people currently on unemployment and looking for work? Or all the people willing to work?

And does that 52.2 million include just the people who can work?. Or the disabled, the elderly. and families with dependent children who cannot find full time work?

 

I guess this varies by state. In NJ, I contribute to unemployment insurance.
