‘When was that?’: Watch Lindsey Graham bumble after Fox News airs his previous comments about Trump firing Sessions

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) has become one of President Donald Trump’s staunchest supporters in Congress—a tireless defender of Trump agenda and character.

But, not so long ago, Graham was a skeptic of Trump who tried to hold his worst impulses in check.

Back in July 2017, Graham said there would be “holy hell to pay” if Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions to quash the Robert Mueller probe and warned it would be “the beginning of the end of Trump’s presidency.”

On Thursday night, Fox News asked Graham about his old comments, making him visibly uncomfortable.

“When was that?” Graham said. “What year?”

“July of 2017,” said anchor Martha MacCallum.

“Hehehehehehehehe,” Graham said. “So… Hehe. Yeah… So, what I’ve been saying for months is that every president deserves an Attorney General they have confidence in.”

Figures on the left and right quickly denounced the Antifa group's action. Former Fox host Megyn Kelly tweeted: "This has to stop... He does not deserve this. His family does not deserve this. It's stomach-turning."
"This is not okay," CNN host SE Cupp wrote. "By the political left, the political right or the deranged. Don't do this."

"Late Show" host Stephen Colbert weighed in as well, saying "Fighting Tucker Carlson's ideas is an American right. Targeting his home and terrorizing his family is an act of monstrous cowardice. Obviously don't do this, but also, take no pleasure in it happening. Feeding monsters just makes more monsters."

One of the leaders of Media Matters, a liberal media monitoring group that opposes Fox, also condemned the incident.

"This behavior is way over the line," senior fellow Matthew Gertz tweeted. "Going to someone's home, breaking their door, and terrorizing their family is unacceptable. It's also extremely counterproductive if your interest is actually in reducing his influence."

Max Boot, a conservative columnist and CNN commentator, said he agreed with Gertz.

"I think Tucker is a terrible influence on modern America but that doesn't justify harassing him at home," Boot tweeted. "Go high, not low."

As I have already said a couple other places the reason Trump is not going to get away with making Whitaker AG is because there are too many forces against him coming from all sides. Even his own network isn't going along with it.

President Trump’s lies about whether or not he knew Matt Whitaker before appointing him interim attorney general are so obvious, even John Roberts of Fox News is calling him out on it.

Roberts noted that Trump is “taking a tremendous amounted of criticism” for Whitaker’s appointment given his strong public comments of the Mueller investigation, and suggested the president is distancing himself from the controversial appointment.

“On the south lawn today, on his way to the helicopter to come here to Paris, the president standing behind Whitaker but also *suggesting that he didn’t know much about him before he appointed him,” Roberts said, teeing up a clip of the president claiming today, “I don’t know Matt Whitaker.”

“That would seem to contradict something the president told “Fox and Friends” back in October,” Roberts added, rolling a clip of the president saying, “Matt Whitaker is a great guy. I know Matt Whitaker.”

“The president,” said Roberts, *“seemed to suggest he knew him a little better than he let on this morning.”

Fox News Reporter: WSJ‘s Story on Trump’s Payoffs to Stormy Daniels/Karen McDougal is a ‘Really Big Deal’

On Friday night, a Fox News reporter stressed the importance of a bombshell report that came from the Wall Street Journal.

The WSJ reported that President Donald Trump is directly implicated in the payoffs of alleged mistresses Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal during the 2016 election and was “involved in or briefed on nearly every step of the agreements. He directed deals in phone calls and meetings with his self-described fixer, Michael Cohen, and others.”

Fox News Washington correspondent Kristin Fisher appeared on Fox News @ Night and gave Shannon Bream a recap from the report.

“This report from The Wall Street Journal is a really big deal because it raises the possibility that President Trump may have violated federal campaign finance laws,” Fisher said.

As part of her report, Fisher showed a clip from Trump’s interview with Fox News back in August, insisting the money came from his own bank account and not from his campaign, adding that if he spent at least $2,700 from the campaign as part of the payoffs, he would be “convicted of a federal campaign finance crime.”

“Tonight, there is certainly more evidence than there was this morning that the president of the United States might have violated some kind of campaign finance law,” Fisher reported. “There is still a considerable amount of debate over whether a sitting president could actually be indicted.”

Fox News, other outlets back CNN’s lawsuit against Trump administration

Fox News joined a number of media outlets on Wednesday in announcing that they would back rival CNN’s lawsuit against the Trump administration.

Fox News President Jay Wallace said in a statement that the network intends to file an amicus brief with a U.S. District Court in the lawsuit.

CNN filed suit against the White House on Tuesday seeking the return of correspondent Jim Acosta’s press credentials, which were revoked last week after a testy exchange with President Trump during a press conference.

“FOX News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential. We intend to file an amicus brief with the U.S. District Court. Secret Service passes for working White House journalists should never be weaponized," Wallace said.

"While we don’t condone the growing antagonistic tone by both the President and the press at recent media avails, we do support a free press, access and open exchanges for the American people.”

NBC News, The Associated Press, Bloomberg, Gannett, The New York Times, Politico, USA Today, The Washington Post and other outlets also plan to file briefs supporting CNN's lawsuit, according to a release from Ballard Spahr LLP, a law firm representing the outlets.

“Whether the news of the day concerns national security, the economy, or the environment, reporters covering the White House must remain free to ask questions,” the news outlets said in a joint statement released by the firm.

“It is imperative that independent journalists have access to the President and his activities, and that journalists are not barred for arbitrary reasons. Our news organizations support the fundamental constitutional right to question this President, or any President.”

CNN has argued that the Trump administration violated Acosta's First and Fifth Amendment rights of free speech and due process. The case was filed in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., and is being overseen by Judge Timothy Kelly, a Trump appointee, who scheduled a hearing in the case for Wednesday.

The White House dismissed CNN's lawsuit on Tuesday, accusing the network of “grandstanding." White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Acosta “is no more or less special than any other media outlet or reporter with respect to the First Amendment."

The White House has argued that it was justified in suspending Acosta's hard pass after he did not allow a White House intern to take the microphone from him during a press conference when Trump cut him off after he asked several questions about the migrant caravan and federal probe into Russia's election interference.

After Mr. Acosta asked the President two questions — each of which the President answered — he physically refused to surrender the White House microphone to an intern, so that other reporters might ask their questions,” Sanders said in a statement Tuesday.

Fox News fans melt down after their favorite network supports CNN’s Acosta: ‘You are dead to me’

Fox News fans are not happy that their favorite network is filing an amicus brief on behalf of CNN’s Jim Acosta, who had his White House press pass revoked by the Trump administration last week.

“Fox News supports CNN in its legal effort to regain its White House reporter’s press credential,” Fox News President Jay Wallace said on Tuesday. “Secret Service passes for White House journalists should never be weaponized.”

After Fox News media critic Howard Kurtz tweeted out Wallace’s announcement that his network would be supporting Acosta’s challenge to his press pass getting revoked, he was met with heavy criticism from several of his followers, who saw Fox’s decision to show solidarity with CNN as a clear betrayal of President Donald Trump.

Even Donald Trump mocks Fox News’ Sean Hannity’s slobbering devotion: report

Fox News host Sean Hannity stirred up controversy by appearing at a Trump rally recently, raising questions about whether the network should so blatantly back President Donald Trump.

Hannity also often hosts the president on his show.

A new report in the Daily Beast reveals that even Trump mocks Hannity for asking softball questions.

Sources tell the Beast that Trump, who appears to thrive on validation, nevertheless has made fun of Hannity for the host’s excessive sucking up.

“It’s like he’s not even trying,” Trump has said, one source told the Daily Beast, before Trump did a nasty impersonation of Hannity’s gestures and voice.

He’s also called Hannity’s line of inquiry “dumb.”

In fact, Trump, who often spars with reporters like CNN’s Jim Acosta, appears bored by Hannity’s unadulterated support.

“[Trump] does enjoy the back-and-forth with the press—look at this whole Jim Acosta thing,” Jeff Lord, a Trump ally, told the Beast. “The president can call on anybody he wants. He could have ignored Jim Acosta. He didn’t do it. And he didn’t do it because… they would have some chance to do some verbal jousting there.”

Fox News issued a statement calling Hannity’s appearance at a Trump campaign event an “unfortunate distraction.”

Chris Wallace to Trump: You’re seen around the world as a 'beacon for repression'

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace told President Trump that he is viewed as a "beacon for repression around the world" because of his repeated attacks against the press.

Wallace made the statement to Trump while conducting a sit-down interview with the president that was aired on Sunday. In it, Wallace pressed Trump about his rhetoric in regard to the media, noting that most presidents haven't like the coverage of their administrations.

No president has liked his press coverage ... Nobody called it the enemy of the American people," Wallace said.

"The fake news is the enemy — it’s fake, it’s phony," Trump replied, before claiming that he doesn't mind negative press coverage if he gets something wrong.

But Wallace pushed Trump on the topic, saying that "leaders in authoritarian countries like Russia, China, Venezuela, now repress the media using your words."

After Trump said he can't speak for other countries, Wallace stated that "you’re seen around the world as a beacon for repression."

Trump continued to double down, saying that the coverage of him was "largely phony."

Trump has repeatedly gone after the press during his presidency, going so far as to call them the "enemy of the people." He insisted on Sunday that when he calls the media the "enemy of the people," he is referring to the "fake news media."

The airing of his interview with Wallace came only days after a judge ruled that the White House must reinstate CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta's press pass.

The administration had revoked Acosta's credentials after he got in a heated exchange with Trump during a press conference.

U.S. District Judge Timothy Kelly said on Friday that the White House violated Acosta's Fifth Amendment rights to due process by pulling Acosta's pass.

Trump stated to Wallace that the White House can pull Acosta's pass again if he "misbehaves" at a future press conference.

"What they said though is that we have to create rules and regulations for conduct, etc., etc. We’re doing that, were going to write them up right now," Trump said. "It’s not a big deal. And if he misbehaves, we’ll throw him out or we’ll stop the news conference.”

Out of the Loop? Kellyanne Conway Apparently Had No Idea White House Planned to Ban Acosta Again

On America’s Newsroom Monday, anchor Bill Hemmer interviewed Kellyanne Conway about the banning and reinstatement of Jim Acosta to the press corps, and CNN’s lawsuit over it.

News broke Sunday night that the White House plans to revoke the pass again once the 12-day temporary injunction expires. CNN has called an “emergency meeting” over the situation. but Conway said she was unaware when Hemmer brought it up.

After playing a clip from Chris Wallace‘s interview with President Donald Trump that aired on Sunday, Hemmer asked Conway about the development of rules of behavior or conduct in the briefing room. Conway said that the rules are being developed now, something that was confirmed on CNN’s Reliable Sources on Sunday by the attorney who argued Acosta’s case to the court last week.

In her response, Conway said that in the upcoming days or weeks they would have new guidance, but that even while “that reporter” was gone, “the particular outlet in question” still had access to be “fairly anti-Trump” and be a 24 hour news network.

Hemmer replied, asking whether Acosta is now still permitted in the White House. “Is that reporter allowed back in the White House? Because I was given a note about an hour ago that the White House has made a quote preliminary decision to suspend the hard pass for Jim Acosta yet again,” he said. “Are you fighting this?”

“I am not aware of that,” said Conway. “I am not aware of anything happening in the last hour. I will have to talk to the press shop about that.”

Hemmer asked “Is he allowed access to the White House today?”

“I do not know, I do not know that answer,” said Conway. “I got someone from the press shop standing right here, I do not know that answer.”

At the end of the clip, Conway goes for an angry indictment of the reaction to the pass being pulled, but Fox’s Hemmer simply talked through it and didn’t bite.
