If Trump is as rich as he claims to be, and he might not be - why won't he release his tax returns? - he has gotten rich by telling gullible fools what they want to believe. What has he produced that you own? Bill Gates produced the computer system I am using as I type. Jeff Bezos produced Amazon that I have bought a lot of stuff from. Mark Zuckerberg produced Facebook. I use that too.

What has Trump produced? He produced casinos that went out of business. He produced "Trump University" that was a scam and a sham. He has refused to pay vendors and contractors what he promised to pay them.

 

Trump is enjoying the tail end of an economic expansion that began under Obama. He has done nothing of a sustainable nature to "Make America great again."

His tax cuts will increase the yearly deficits that Republicans only complain about when a Democrat is president. Rich people and corporations are getting most of the tax cuts. They are using the vast majority of it for stock buy backs and to increase dividend payments.

Environmental de regulation in the coal industry may lead to a few more coal mining jobs. It will also lead to the increase in lethal coal mining accidents and the incidence of black lung.

"Better trade deals" will lead to higher consumer prices and higher tariffs from our trading partners.

 

Okay so here's the deal, the article really proving out the point perfectly;

If you insist upon 'trying' to boost your own nations internal production and sales of goods and services, you then must make such tariffs broad sweeping to even all encompassing. Considering the U.S., we are only left with the options of providing a significantly better product, or a unique product, or a product that can only be generated here for whatever reason. We will never be able to generate a less expensive product simply due to our level of wages driven by the cost and standard of living... NEVER.

For the most part "unique" products will only remain so for a short time. Most nation's industries have no qualms about purchasing such a product and reverse engineering it. Products that can only be produced here often requires that they're either agricultural (which has also over time been whittled down to few, acreage required the factor) or raw material driven. Better we can do (though that didn't work out so well compared to the Japanese who have had exceptional QC and continuous improvement since BEFORE WWII).

So that essentially leaves us with trying to compete where we really never can. In the articles example, the vendor is willing to accept reduced profits to perhaps even a loss to make the sale. However, if cheaper foreign equipment can still be purchased, he's just chasing his tail. More so, if his raw materials now increase in cost dramatically, he's now at an even greater disadvantage.

You can shout "buy American" all you want, and you may mean it sincerely. However, most individuals and especially companies will not. In the example's case, the Chinese are still shipping in steel at their reduced cost. Only steel stock is hit with a tariff. Products made from steel however are not.

The same goes with our greatest export. Water. To a great degree we ship billions of gallons of water when we sell hay and grains. Hence the issue with exporting agricultural products. We're using up our valuable water resources, essentially selling it overseas at a reduced cost to compete. Unfortunately, many of our "bigly geniuses, the really stable geniuses at that" have no concept of anything beyond that point of sale bottom line. They don't consider all that goes into either buying, manufacturing or selling a product.

So, such flamboyant wild flailings to make a show, in the end only hurt American industry...
