Trump's approval rating hits highest point in two years

President Trump’s job approval rating is the highest it’s been in two years, boosted by voter optimism about the economy, according to the latest Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey.

The survey found that 48 percent approve of the job Trump is doing, compared to 52 percent who said they disapprove. That’s up from 45 percent approval in March. The last time the president’s job approval rating reached 48 percent in the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey was in June of 2017.

Trump appears to be getting a lift from the economy, with a record 62 percent approving of his approach to employment and 59 percent approving of his handling of the economy.

51 percent said the economy is heading in the right direction. Seventy-one percent of voters said the economy is very strong or somewhat strong.

“People’s views on the economy are gradually pushing Trump’s numbers up and his actions on other issues like China and immigration are neutral to positive,” said Mark Penn, the co-director of the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey. “Every point of increase in this range of 45 to 50 improves the possibility of re-election.”

Trump’s job approval rating in the Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll survey is higher than what other recent polls have found.

The president’s job approval rating is at 42.5 percent in the RealClearPolitics average. A recent Rasmussen Reports survey found Trump at 48 percent, but six other recent polls found him ranging between 38 percent and 44 percent.

Gallup has registered some momentum for Trump recently. The president’s job approval in that survey bounced from 39 percent in March to 46 percent in late April, before falling back to 42 percent this month.



The Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll online survey of 1,295 registered voters was conducted from May 29 to May 30.

Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll is a collaboration of the Center for American Political Studies at Harvard University and The Harris Poll. The Hill will be working with Harvard CAPS/Harris Poll throughout 2019.

For the first time since President Donald Trump took office, the CNBC All-America Economic Survey shows more than half the public approving his handling of the economy, and it appears to be having some impact on his overall job approval rating.

The president’s economic approval rating surged 6 points to 51 percent with just 36 percent of the public disapproving, a 6 point drop from the March Survey.

So theres this neighborhood web site that covers shooters neighborhood, which is fairly close to the US Air Force Academy.

Its goodfor getting rid of stuff one no longer needs, bitch about fast drivers, rude people, and lost (found) pets.

Political discourse is discouraged, as is religion.

Shooter rarely participates in the discussions, but they can be really amusing.

Anyway, the 2019 graduating class from the academy had its ceremony last Thursday.
President Trump was the key note speaker.
He also saluted and shook the hand of every graduate.
All 991 of them.
Now, presidents traditionally speak at the military academy's graduations, rotating among them.
It is not traditional that the president sticks around to shake every graduates hand and salute them. Usually, they just acknowledge the top of the class and then split.

So, the neighborhood blog lit up.

It started with the neighborhood busy body bitching because the thunderbirds did their fly over and the noise scared her kitty, and GAWD DAMMIT, why don't they put mufflers on those things?
Which prompted a lengthy explanation from retired air force guy about why jet engines are not muffled.
Which prompted a rant from the local twig and berry eater about the horrific impact those jets have on the climate.

Retired teacher noted that President Trumps speech was humble, about the sacrifice graduates had made and would make, and with no mention of Mueller or political rivals. AND teach pointed out, the President shook every graduates hand and saluted them.

Farmer John cynically opined that trump did that for the votes, and the traffic jam caused by his motorcade was horrendous. In fact, farmer John ran out of gas waiting for traffic to clear.

But the best post came from mad Hattie, the local nut case, who claimed with authority that it wasn't Trump at all, but a double and the real Trump was being held in the white house basement by republican leadership.

Really.

Shooter got a chuckle out of that.

 

Trump lifts year-round ethanol restrictions, could lower gas prices

The Trump administration Opens a New Window. on Friday announced that it would allow for the year-round sale Opens a New Window. of gasoline with higher concentrations of ethanol.

The action addresses a rule the Environmental Protection Agency had in place preventing the sale of so-called E15 fuel, which contains 15 percent ethanol and 85 percent gasoline, between June 1 and Sept. 15. The purpose was to prevent air pollution and curb dependence on foreign petroleum, but the ban has stopped some retailers from selling E15 at all because of the need to change out pumps.

President Trump promised to end the ban last year, as corn farmers were voicing a concern over the trade war between the U.S. and China, which remains ongoing. Corn is widely used to domestically make ethanol.

Gasoline generally contains about 10 percent ethanol. Allowing for the year-round sale of E15 will give farmers more avenues to sell corn, which could bolster revenue especially when prices are low.

Lifting the ban has been opposed by oil refiners.
