What I watch is how fast the numbers go up. If its going to be a pandemic the numbers have to go up exponentially. And it looks like they are. Despite all the lock downs they are reporting 2,700 cases and 81 deaths in China and now 5 cases in the US.

And I don't claim to know anything about it or why but they are reporting the stock markets are reacting negatively to the possibility of a pandemic with markets down about 1.5% just before the opening.

The story here was that our fellow didn’t feel ill until the day after he landed. As of last night that’s changed; he didn’t feel well on the plane.

He had very little contact with people after leaving the airport and his family has self-quarantined, but I keep thinking about how busy Lester B Pearson is. And if everyone within 2m on the plane is a potential infected contact, where’d they go? And the flight crew?

Ugh.

 

I knew a SARS victim that died because of it and was placed on home isolation because I was in his home with only a coffee table between us. I was isolated a week after he was diagnosed.
At least this time they are reacting faster.

I just saw a report on the news that they think the infection period could be as high as 14 days and that infectious people can be assymptomatic!

An idea of the potential for spread.

End of long summer holidays here , and beginning of school year this week.

Schools have asked that any who have returned from travel , in risk areas , recently to stay away for at least 2 weeks.

Some schools could have a few to dozens in that category.

Some schools could have similar or more Asian students returning ,
or new enrolments .

This is right around the country , at hundreds of schools.

One student accommodation provider is particularly concerned ,
as normally this week they will have an influx
of over 1,000 Asian's this week alone.

Most of the Asian students nowadays are from China.

Education and (English) language schools
(which a friend started about 40 years ago)
are big business here , mostly for Europeans and Asians , but also South Americans and Africans.

 

I'm half Japanese.

 

I am still confused about how bad this is. On the one had it doesn't seem to spreading outside China but the numbers do seem to be going up. And if China has 60 million people locked down and are building emergency hospitals in a matter of days I have to wonder if China is telling the truth.
