The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

The context is easily discernable from the rest of the sentence if effect was the intention in the post then then sentence is incomplete and therefore grammitically incorrect.
      Similarly with the final comment!

I am going back to Pride and Prejudice!

I see Aussie is banning entry for all non Australians from China .

I think we should do the same.

If this has an outbreak here , it could very quickly overwhelm our tiny health capabilities ,
    literally .

And when you consider just one planeload could put up to 300 or more cases here in one fell swoop ,,,,,,

If they can be here for up to two weeks , infecting others , without knowing they're infected themselves ,
while it might seem a small chance ,
it's a risk we don't need to take.

The rate it has spread , and now covering all China ,
no visitors from there can be considered low risk.

NZ citizens includes anyone who is a citizen , born or naturalized.

We don't have part citizens , they either are or are not.

After all , if not Polynesian Maori ,
we are all recent arrivals , French , Scotch , Irish , Chinese , Samoan or American

It dose not say if they are/were naturalized , or just have residency.

Dosen't matter , they had a right to come home.

What has most all the health experts really worried is all viruses mutate. Some actually become weaker. But in other cases the virus can mutate to be very deadly very quickly. So now that they know it can be transmitted from human to human. And humans are contagious before they have symptoms they are watching to see if the Coronavirus is going to mutate into something more deadly and easier to catch.

And I can't fucking believe that after Trump's disastrous trade war his supporters remain so stupid and ignorant (two different things) they still haven't learned that the US and China economies are so intertwined you can't hurt China without hurting the US in the process. Which is why the stock market fell.

Yeah , well the Coronavirus were currently dealing with ,
    Novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV)
    Is a mutation itself.

It's actually quite interesting , so here's a few snippets to bore people
    :)

    * * *
Coronaviruses are a group of viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds. In humans, the viruses cause respiratory infections which are typically mild, including the common cold; however, rarer forms such as SARS, MERS and the novel coronavirus causing the current outbreak can be lethal. In cows and pigs they may cause diarrhea, while in chickens they can cause an upper respiratory disease.

    Virus classification[IMG]
    (unranked): Virus
    Realm: Riboviria
    Phylum: incertae sedis
    Order: Nidovirales
    Family: Coronaviridae
    Subfamily: Orthocoronavirinae

Coronaviruses were discovered in the 1960s;[6] the earliest ones discovered were infectious bronchitis virus in chickens and two viruses from the nasal cavities of human patients with the common cold that were subsequently named human coronavirus 229E and human coronavirus OC43.[7] Other members of this family have since been identified, including SARS-CoV in 2003, HCoV NL63 in 2004, HKU1 in 2005, MERS-CoV in 2012, and 2019-nCoV in 2019; most of these have been involved in serious respiratory tract infections.

The most recent common ancestor of the coronavirus has been placed at 8000 BCE.
They may be considerably older than this.

The MRCA of human coronavirus OC43 has been dated to the 1950s.

    ********

So they've been jumping around from host to host for about 10,000 years or more , which makes them pretty successful mutant ninjas.

We're maybe starting to get some interesting info on the origins of this outbreak.

    * *

The deadly coronavirus sweeping the globe did not begin in a Chinese fish market.

Instead, researchers warn it was spreading through Wuhan for up to a month before being detected.
    *
This makes the rapid spread somewhat more plausible

Note this is heavily edited to just the basic interesting information , relevant to this post.

    *

finding a 'Patient Zero' is so important.

The Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market had been the primary suspect for where the new virus made its jump from the wild into humans.

But new research has found the virus must have already been in the human population.

Instead, the wild trade facility served as a "super spreader" –

a concentrated hive of activity where the virus rapidly jumped to new hosts.
    *
no surprise , this all exposes some mighty weaknesses in the Chinese systems , methods , and very restrictive authority structures , areas of responsibility and communication
    But
    It sort of explains
how , once the facts filtered through , to the hierarchy ,
they realised so quickly they had a major problem ,
that required extraordinary action , quickly

(We all know how very reluctant they are to exposing and or admitting to any weaknesses or fuckups ,
    so there's no surprises there.
Any comments on that are pointless at this stage.
    It's an established known )

    *
Chinese researchers tracked reports to 41 original cases.
These earliest infections pose a serious mystery.

"No epidemiological link was found between the first patient and later cases,"
    they state.

In fact, 13 of the first 41
" had no link to the market whatsoever".
    *
that makes it a whole different ball game
    *
With the first diagnosis now known to have been
    on December 1,
the virus must have been on the move in November.
    * *
from an extensive article in NZ Herald
    sources include.
    Medical science journal The Lancet

    * * *

About 10 per cent of those infected with SARS died. The mortality rate for MERS is about 35 per cent.

    Just great.
Now China reports an outbreak of bird flu , in another part of Wuhan province.

Probably not , but I hope if anyone contracts both , that they can't mutate between eachother , or together.

They've culled thousands , so let's hope it's just a minor side issue

    * *
H5N1 also known as the bird flu and avian influenza is highly infectious in birds.

According to the World Health Organisation, however, it is difficult to transmit the infection from person to person.

When the infection spreads, the mortality rate is about 60 percent.

The problem I see here is that we have to assume China is telling the truth about these numbers. And I am just not sure that is a safe assumption.

Coronavirus Death Toll Rises to 304, Over 14,000 Confirmed Cases in China

I have to wonder if the virus isn't getting more deadly. Up until now they have been claiming the people that die from Coronavirus have other health issues that makes them more vulnerable. So i wish there was more information on reported deaths.

And here in the US the Trump administration is going to use military bases to house people who might have been exposed to the virus for up to two weeks. Mandatory. But considering how they handled the Child Separation policy I worry about that.

    1. Josef.K.
The US/A will handle it with the care and consideration they did when "dealing" with their "Native People" problem and internment of Japanese and ethnic Japanese residents in the 1940s.

Our people will only be allowed on the evacuation plane if symptom free ,
and they to will be quareantined here at a military training base ,
which has the nessascary facilities , including medical/hospital .

It's an excellent sight , being out on the end of a Peninsula ,
insulated by reserve (a sister lives right next door to) and surrounded by water , obviously.

There are no reports of any cases of human infection yet.
Let's hope it stays that way.

    ***

"The incubation period is from 2 to 8 days, and it can take up to 17 days".

This is compared with 2 to 3 days for human seasonal flu.May 23, 2017

    * * *
Of the 7,850 chickens on the farm where the outbreak occurred,

4,500 died of the H5N1 avian flu,

as reported by Reuters on Saturday.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), while H5N1 can be transmitted to humans,
typically through contact with dead birds or a contaminated environment,
    it is rare in humans.
"The virus does not infect humans easily, and spread from person to person appears to be unusual,"

The mayor of a city near where I live is wanting people to donate face masks to people in the Wuhan providence.
Sounds like he doesn't know China is where most of the face masks come from in the first place.

    1. slutwolf
and they can build a hospital in 8 days
(one of which is opening today)

so how many masks dose he expect donated ?
      for the 11 million there
      and
how and when will he get them there ?

Not to mention , the consensus , including from WHO is that masks
Will Not protect people from this virus.

So essentially , it's just a nonsense useless feel good gesture .

So we got dispensation to open the factory today as long as we could prove we had face masks for the staff for ten days.
Problem with this is none can be sourced locally. By the time we had sourced 1000 pieces from Africa we couldn't courier them in as all trade flights had been halted.

@slutwolf I just want to thank you for doing most excellent work on this thread. In all seriousness you have provided more vital information faster than anywhere else I am seeing it in the media. Lots of scary headlines but not many facts such as; ""The incubation period is from 2 to 8 days, and it can take up to 17 days". You can go lots of places and run into lots of people in 17 days. And as you also have informed its already mutating even though it started with the best virus advantages. Such as the masks people are wearing don't really protect against the virus. Its so small it goes right through them. But its still a good thing to wear those makes because they keep people from touching their mouth and noses which is how the virus gets in.

And I don't know about you but when the Chinese say they have it under control and there is only this many cases I always think of Tiananmen Square. The government ordered military troops to kill the protesters. Well they couldn't really. They were military units stationed in the cities and couldn't just open fire on mostly kids. Fearing government collapse they brought in units from rural regions. They didn't even know why they were doing it. The order to kill them came down and they just opened fire. Let me just fucking quote this. hundreds to thousands of protesters were killed. And the world reacted in horror but not the Chinese people. They never even heard of it and didn't know it even happened. Ever since then on things like this I take China's word in hopes its the beginning of the trail I can track it to what they are hiding.

We shouldn't get to tied up in the way China is.
    It's a totalitarian society , and that's it.

It's been that way so long , it's all most know ,
and after the disasterous reign of terror by Mao ,
this has to be an improvement , as bad as we think it is.
I don't know how it could be changed ,
    and anyway ,
    only they can change it.

    Absolute power corrupts absolutely ,
so nothing should be any surprise.

We just have to be thankful they've made the effort this time , albeit starting a bit late ,
    to inform and cooperate.

We can't expect them to even know the full extent of this , given the regime they operate under ,
and the fact they won't even know as fast as we might expect.

Confirmed cases , is not an unreasonable way of giving out information.

They can't know numbers of the infected , undiagnosed , the haven't reported , or the can't get to help or to care.

They certainly fucked up in the early stages , trying to suppress what was happening ,
but we can't do anything about that now.

For now , the best we can do is all cooperate and get this over with as soon as possible.
Keep control as much as we can ,
and get treatment going as quickly as possible.

In the long term , we can hope this might force some changes ,
    but don't count on it.

    To digress a moment;

One thing that we might hope for , is that this will let them , the Chinese government , off the hook they got themselves on ,
    in Hong Kong.

I thaught from the start they fucked up there and would likely regret it , being how hard it is for them to back down , or be seen to.

Now hopefully they can just quietly leave it to fade into obscurity.

    Well it's a possibility.
Why would they want to reignite that hornets nest again.
It seemed like a no win situation to me right from the get go.

    How Predictable.

The Chinese ambassador has warned us ,
closing our borders to all from or transiting through China ,
    "could have ramifications".
    LOL

Well isn't that the sign of a good world citizen.
    Threaten the little guy.

    Tough titty China.

It's already costing millions a day.

    Massive export interruptions .
All sorts of businesses deals frozen .
Over a 1,000 tourist a day shut out
they've already pretty much disappeared anyway. None here
Thousands of paying students shut out for now.
    missing here to
The list goes on and on.

And along with everything , millions knocked off the Stock Market ,
and every day , more jobs will be on the line.
can't pay wages for long if income has disappeared over the horizon

    Thanks China.
    * *
    *

Now many won't realise that we have an extra duty of care.

Our biggest city , and main gateway , is
also the biggest Pacifica city in the world ,
    and
we recently saw how tragically an epidemic here can effect any of those Pacific Islands .

The recent measles outbreak spread there with devastating results for many.
The deaths of babies , mother's and others.

Anything that gets a hold here , gets access to the Pacific communities ,
particularly Samoa , Fiji , Tonga , the Cooks and Niue , come to.mind , all with substantial populations here.

So up yours China if you want to punish us more.
    To bad.

Im afraid we're heading that way. Way too many people traveling around the world everyday. People are too caught up in their day-to-day to let something like a plague interupt there precious daily routines. Plus Americans think this can't really affect them. They think everything we see on social media is part of some reality show and not real or capable of reaching them in their personal lives. My office has branches around the world so it's quite easy to come into contact with it.

I find the WHO attitude rather
    intriguing/puzzling.

    Do the travel bans work?
Global health officials have advised against the bans.

The WHO has warned that closing borders could even accelerate the spread of the virus, if travellers enter countries unofficially.

    Really ?
just how are they going to get into NZ
    "unofficially" ?
    swim ?

and you really think we should let over a thousand a day to enter , not knowing if they are infected ?

"Travel restrictions can cause more harm than good by hindering info-sharing, medical supply chains and harming economies," the head of the WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said last week.
Oh do they , really ?
    How ?

The WHO instead recommends introducing screening at border crossings.
    Gee , thanks ,
so we should let those thousands in , with any number infected ,
Because they don't yet show symptoms.
    And
WTF do we do with all the ones who do
    And
how about all the airline and associated staff who have to come into contact with these masses of possibly infected ?
    Just to bad
    I suppose

On Monday, Dr Tedros again praised China for its commitment to fighting the coronavirus, stressing that the only way to defeat it was for all countries to work together "in a spirit of co-operation".

What? You don't want people entering your country without permission? That would be like entering your country illegally right?

      What's up with that?:O_o:
