Dems Pounce After Trump Says He Intends to Cut Entitlements

President Donald Trump said he intends to cut entitlement programs during a town hall forum in Pennsylvania on Thursday night.

When Fox News host Martha MacCallum suggested that if “you don’t cut something in entitlements, you will never really deal with the debt,” Trump jumped in right away.

“Oh, we’ll be cutting,” he said to an audience in Scranton. “We’re also going to have growth like you’ve never seen before.”

The move would represent a change of direction, as Trump has generally maintained that he does not intend to trim such programs. In a tweet last month, he wrote: “We will not be touching your Social Security and Medicare in Fiscal 2021 Budget.”

He has occasionally walked back similar comments on cutting entitlements. At the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, for example, the president was asked by a moderator how he would handle federal entitlement programs. He responded by saying “at some point they will be” on the chopping block. In a follow up question, when he was asked about Medicare, in particular, Trump said “we’re going to look” at it. In the following months, the president never attempted to enact cuts.

In the midst of the Democratic primary, Trump’s remarks could receive particular attention for another reason: the location in which he delivered them. Pennsylvania, one of the most consequential battlegrounds of the general election, is a top target for Democrats looking to defeat Trump in the state scored a victory against Hillary Clinton in 2016. It’s also the home state of former Vice President Joe Biden, a favorite punching bag of the president, who is surging as the 2020 frontrunner after a series of Super Tuesday wins.

Within minutes, Biden had already pounced. “Here’s the deal, folks: social security is on the ballot this year, and the choice couldn't be clearer: I’ll protect and expand it. Donald Trump will cut it and take it away,” the former vice president tweeted on top of a clipped video of the remarks that the Democratic National Committee was promoting.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) took a different approach, using the opportunity to ding Biden directly on a topic they have sparred over for months. “Here’s the deal: Joe Biden has repeatedly advocated for cuts to Social Security. I’ve fought my whole career to protect and expand it,” Sanders tweeted.

I just watched the idiot, saying "She had no talent..." and what everyone knows about this man, how ridiculous he is in office, his incompetency, and ignorance, his inability to understand even the basics of leadership or government, and for the American people to have to tolerate this kind of president...

 

The border wall should have been built for reasons just like this virus, preventative measures to try to help the situations of people coming freely can do. Not do it 100% because that's obviously impossible but to slow them down a bit. I think. Like washing your hands helps prevent the virus from being transmitted as easy not stop it but a preventive measure. If I'm wrong then you still know what I'm trying to say. I think. If nothing else this should be a major wake up call of how easy something terrible can happen in such a short amount of time, and how unprepared we are to do something about it, whatever it may be. I think.

 

Something mental health and other language experts have pointed out is there are multiple "tells" when Trump is just about to tell a lie and one of the most prominent is when Trump begins with "People come to me and say SIR." They document that every time says "sir" it can be proven a lie. And it uncanny how you can just see for yourself that ever time Trump says "sir" a lie will follow.

PS Another thing that just cracks my ass up is when Trump supporters scream Trump has promised not to cut Social Security and Medicare. One because that is already a lie. The Trump administration has already taken a big junk out of entitlement programs with sneaky little changes that don't get covered very well. But also just laugh at the fucking obvious. Trump says he will not cut Social Security and Medicare and then multiple times now has said if he gets re-elected he plans on cutting Social Security and Medicare. So which one of those is Trump lying about because they both can't be fucking true. And the tell is no matter what Trump says his administration is already taking steps to make cuts to both programs.

Trump claims he had no idea people die of influenza despite his grandfather dying from the virus


President Donald Trump made the claim when speaking about the flu that he had no clue people could die from the virus - despite it taking the life of his grandfather.

Mr Trump's claim came while he was in Atlanta, Georgia, on Friday to visit the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention headquarters and meet with health officials about the coronavirus.

During a press conference, the president spoke about the number of people getting infected by the coronavirus and how it compared to influenza.

"Over the last long period of time, you have an average of 36,000 people dying (per year)," he said about the flu.

Mr Trump continued: "I never heard those numbers. I would've been shocked. I would've said, 'Does anybody die from the flu? I didn't know people died from the flu.' ... And again, you had a couple of years where it was over a 100,000 people died from the flu."

In recent years, about 12,000 to 61,000 people in America have died from the flu in the course of one season, according to data from the CDC. An estimated 34,000 died from the flu last season.

So the president was correct on his figures when attempting to calm fears of the coronavirus. But he was incorrect, or misinformed, about not knowing anyone who has ever died from the virus, the Daily Beast reported.
