Morning Joe and Mika bust Trump for ignoring a dozen COVID-19 classified briefings

MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski laid the blame for tens of thousands of coronavirus deaths on President Donald Trump.

As more reporting comes out showing the president ignored dire warnings about the pandemic back in January and February, the “Morning Joe” co-hosts blasted Trump for downplaying the threat and continuing to endanger public health.

“He knew explicitly how bad it was,” Scarborough said. “He knew explicitly, as he praised [Chinese] President Xi [Jinping], that China was suppressing information. Everybody should read this Washington Post story because coronavirus was not a footnote in the [presidential daily briefing]. It was at the core of what the intelligence community was worried about.”

“Knowing that, hearing that a dozen times, the president still went out and downplayed, after he put in the travel restriction to China, spent a month and a half downplaying how serious this was going to be,” he added.

Those statements endangered public health, Scarborough said, and continue to pose a threat.

“I’m just saying, there wasn’t just a political impact to that,” Scarborough said. “There was a public health care impact to that. People went out because they believed the president. People didn’t socially distance. There are still polls that show, even now, supporters of Donald Trump are less likely to social distance, supporters of Donald Trump are less likely to understand how serious this pandemic is. His words have had a negative impact on the public health of Americans, so it’s not — this is not just a political matter. This is a public health matter. I mean, he is responsible for it.”

“We ask, again, on this day, that he starts telling Americans the truth, he stops with his parade of CEOs and all the other nonsense he does in the afternoon, and let Dr. [Anthony] Fauci and Dr. [Deborah] Birx speak.”

Brzezinski then laid the blame at Trump’s feet.

“Let them run these things and actually go to your briefings, listen to the briefings, however you can try and retain information, as best you can,” she said. “If you can’t read, if you don’t read because it doesn’t work for you, because you never did, then try and get the information. It was on you to read those briefings back in January. It was on you to listen to the warnings, and you didn’t. That’s why we’re here.”

No, you are just bullshitting yourself. Trump has overridden the FBI and security experts and handed out security clearances like they were cards for a 900 number. Trump is surrounded by people who can't pass background checks or have a security clearance under normal circumstances. And Trump has blocked any oversight as to how security clearances are handed out it Trump's White House. Which is why the Trump White House has more leaks than any president in history. Trump created his own den of vipers.

Johnson expressed genuine empathy in response to Hurricane Betsy in the 1960s when he said, “I am your president, and I’m here to help.” Meacham lamented Trump’s inability to become a sympathetic figure during the pandemic, telling Williams, “We can’t normalize what is fundamentally a mad dysfunctional kingship.”

The following morning, Meacham defended two U.S. presidents of the past who faced a major crisis — Democrat Franklin Delano Roosevelt with Pearl Harbor and Republican George W. Bush with 9/11 — and explained why it’s unfair to compare either of them to Trump with coronavirus.

An argument that has been used against Trump during the coronavirus pandemic was also used against President George W. Bush following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and against President Franklin Delano Roosevelt following the Japanese military’s attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941: he should have seen it coming. But Meacham, on “Morning Joe,” explained why it is unfair to blame Bush for 9/11 or FDR for Pearl Harbor but quite fair to attack Trump’s response to coronavirus: 9/11 and Pearl Harbor were “singular events,” whereas coronavirus was a crisis that grew worse and worse while Trump ignored warning after warning.

Back in January and February, Trump downplayed the severity of coronavirus —insisting that it didn’t pose a major threat to the United States. He was dead wrong, of course: according to researchers at John Hopkins University in Baltimore, COVID-19 had killed more than 56,200 people in the U.S. as of early Tuesday morning, April 28. Worldwide, the staggering death toll stood at 211,894.

Trump was warned more than a dozen times about the dangers of the novel coronavirus in January and February

US President Donald Trump was repeatedly warned about the dangers of the novel coronavirus in intelligence briefings in January and February, The Washington Post reported late Monday.

The warnings — more than a dozen included in classified briefings known as the President’s Daily Brief — came during a time the president was mostly downplaying the threat of a COVID-19 pandemic.

The Post, citing unnamed current and former US officials, said the warnings were contained in the daily classified summary of the most important global issues and security threats.

For weeks, the Daily Briefs traced the spread of the virus, said that China was suppressing information about the virus’s lethality and ease of transmission, and mentioned the frightful political and economic consequences, the Post said.

The president, who officials told the Post often does not read the briefings and bristles at having to listen to oral summaries, failed to mobilize for a major pandemic.

Trump did restrict travel between the United States and China in late January, but he spent most of the following month downplaying the threat.

He did not declare a national emergency over the coronavirus pandemic until March 13, as the stock market plummeted and virus cases were on the rise in New York.

As of late Monday, the United States recorded an overall coronavirus death toll of 56,144, with 988,197 confirmed infections, according to a tally by Johns Hopkins University.

Politico Hit Piece on Trump ‘Owing’ China Falls Apart After Media Outlet Issues yet *Another* Correction

My RedState colleague Bonchie wrote over the weekend about how Politico had to issue a major correction on a supposed bombshell report that originally alleged that President Trump was “tens of millions of dollars in debt to China.”

To quickly recap, here is what they initially reported Friday:

Donald Trump is warning “China will own the United States” if Joe Biden is elected president.

But Trump himself is tens of millions of dollars in debt to China: In 2012, his real estate partner refinanced one of Trump’s most prized New York buildings for almost $1 billion. The debt includes $211 million from the state-owned Bank of China — its first loan of this kind in the U.S. — which matures in the middle of what could be Trump’s second term, financial records show.

The news outlet, however, had to update their hit piece the next day with this information, which undercut a significant chunk of their piece:

After the first version of this article was published, the Bank of China issued a statement Friday evening stating that it sold its debt on the building weeks after the 2012 loan on the property. Vornado Realty Trust owns 70 percent of the building.

Even with that very important update, Politico still held out hope that they had a solid report by pointing to a 2017 Wells Fargo document:

Another public document, however, lists Bank of China as a creditor on 1290 Avenue of the Americas even after the bank said it was no longer involved in the property. Filed in 2017 with the New York City Department of Finance Office of the Register, it lists the Bank of China as a secured party having a financial interest in the building’s fixtures — such as air conditioning systems and toilets — in case of default on the loan.

But as it turns out, Wells Fargo confirmed Bank of China’s statement this week. As a result, Politico has published a separate statement on the piece, once again acknowledging their initial error, while noting another error, which they blamed on “an apparent mistake in the public record.”:

POLITICO attempted to reach other parties to the refinancing throughout the weekend and Monday. Wells Fargo on Monday confirmed the Bank of China’s statement that it had been listed as a creditor on the building in error. Bank of China said Wells Fargo is taking steps to correct the record with an updated filing.

Consequently, the story was updated a second time on Monday evening to take account of the apparent mistake in the public record.

Our commitment at POLITICO is to journalism that gets its facts straight. We regret we fell short in this case.

“Fell short”? That’s an understatement if I’ve ever heard one. Politico jumped the gun on this “report” without doing thorough due diligence on what they were alleging.

They should delete the entire phony report, but they won’t, because the “fake but accurate” rules are in full effect with the mainstream press at all times when it comes to erroneous and/or contrived reports attacking Republicans, especially during an election year.

Coronavirus Death Toll in Seven States May Be 9,000 Higher Than Official Figures Suggest

The coronavirus death toll worldwide is thought to be far higher than official records suggest, and now The New York Times reports that total deaths in seven U.S. states hard-hit by the coronavirus pandemic are up nearly 50 percent from the usual figures. The analysis of the seven states—Colorado, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New York, and New Jersey—shows 9,000 more excess deaths over and above the 18,000 already attributed to COVID-19. Increasingly, analysts around the world are using the difference between total deaths from all causes during the pandemic and total death from all causes in normal times, saying this figure paints a clearer picture of the true impact of the pandemic, as it also captures deaths caused by knock-on effects of the virus, such as stresses on the health-care system or, on the flip side, reduced road traffic accidents. “It gives you an overall sense of how big things are,” said Samuel Clark, a professor of sociology at Ohio State University whose work is in demography and epidemiology, of the total excess-deaths figure. “For now, you can basically attribute the excess mortality to COVID-19. But you also grab all the things that are not COVID at all, but are probably created by the situation.”

A television actress blames President Donald Trump for the coronavirus death of her grandfather.

Holly Marie Combs, who appeared in the TV series “Charmed” and “Picket Fences,” revealed that her Trump-supporting grandfather had died from COVID-19 after the president downplayed the risks from the pandemic, reported USA Today.

“He voted for you,” Combs tweeted at the president. “He believed you when you said this virus was no worse than the flu. He believed every lie you muttered and sputtered. He died today from Covid-19 one day after his 66th wedding anniversary. You’re a disgrace to the human race.”

The 46-year-old Combs leveled the accusations in response to an April 25 tweet from the president insisting — falsely — that he had never called the coronavirus a hoax.

In fact, Trump dismissed the virus during a Feb. 28 campaign rally as the Democrats’ “new hoax” aimed at undermining his presidency, and he spent February and much of March assuring Americans the outbreak was under control — despite dire warnings from health officials, the military and intelligence services.

Combs’ allegations infuriated the president’s online supporters, who lashed out at the actress.

“Sorry for your loss but how dare you blame Trump!” tweeted @cindyinpgi. “Absolutely disgraceful and your wonderful grandfather would probably feel the same way about your despicable behavior!”

Jared Kushner’s ‘princely arrogance’ set back the coronavirus response by weeks: report

President Donald Trump’s obsession with settling scores in the wake of his impeachment and the “princely arrogance” of his son-in-law Jared Kushner delayed the response from the White House in the critical early days of the coronavirus outbreak, numerous Republicans and administration officials told Vanity Fair’s Gabe Sherman.

As the number of coronavirus cases in New York reached 4,000, Trump continued to fume about impeachment while dismissing concerns about the outbreak, a Republican in frequent contact with the administration told Sherman.

“Trump was obsessed with Pelosi, Schiff, the media — just obsessed,” the source said of the president. “He would say, ‘They’re using it against me!’ It was unhinged.”

When Secretary of Health and Human Services Alex Azar tried to warn Trump about the virus, the president repeatedly interrupted him to lament his decision to ban certain vaping products, according to the report. Kushner also dismissed concerns from Azar and other officials.

“Jared kept saying the stock market would go down, and Trump wouldn’t get re-elected,” a Republican familiar with the situation told Sherman. A source close to Kushner denied the claim.

And as the outbreak grew, so did Kushner’s influence.

“Jared is running everything,” one former White House official told Sherman. “He’s the de facto president of the United States.”

While former chief of staff John Kelly “marginalized” Kushner, former acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, who has since been replaced with former Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., had no such power.

“Jared treats Mick like the help,” one prominent Republican told Vanity Fair.

The sources described Kushner’s “princely arrogance” as a “fixture in the West Wing,” Sherman wrote. Kushner had a “famously unshakable belief in his own judgment” but “hardened to a degree that was sometimes shocking.”

“I told Jared that if Trump won a second term, he wouldn’t have to worry about running again. And you can really help people. Jared just looked at me and said, ‘I don’t care about any of that,'” a New York business executive who met with Kushner at the White House last fall told Sherman. “I wanted to tell Jared, ‘You don’t say that part out loud — even in private.'”

A source close to Kushner said that he had “no recollection” of that remark.

Weeks passed before advisers convinced Trump to do anything about the virus. The president partially banned certain travel from China on Jan. 31.

After he was acquitted in his Senate impeachment trial, Trump turned days later to settling scores with career officials who testified against him while downplaying the threat posed by the outbreak.

“We only have 11 cases, and they are all getting better,” Trump declared on Feb. 11.

Frustrated with Azar, Trump placed Vice President Mike Pence at the helm of the White House coronavirus task force weeks later.

“Pence lives in mortal fear of being booted off the ticket,” a Republican who heard the comments told Sherman. “Trump constantly reminds Mike that he almost didn’t choose him.”

As the outbreak continued to grow, Trump blamed the media for amplifying the threat and claimed to aides that journalists would try to intentionally infect him with the virus.

“This is full-blown, pathological, paranoid-level delusion,” a former West Wing official told Sherman.

Fox News host Tucker Carlson drove to Mar-a-Lago to warn the president to take the threat seriously during this time. Kushner pushed back, urging Trump not to declare a national emergency because it “would tank the markets,” a source familiar with the situation told Sherman. A person close to Kushner denied the claim.

Kushner officially joined the coronavirus response team on March 12 and put together a “shadow network” of tech entrepreneurs. As the response effort came under criticism, Kushner sought to scapegoat Azar for the delays in testing.

“This was a total mess,” Kushner told people, according to the report. “To be honest, when I got involved, I was a little intimidated. But I know how to make this government run now.”

“The arrogance was on full display,” a source told Sherman.

Kushner pushed for a “public-private approach” like the kind he “used for his Mideast peace plan.” He sought advice from billionaires like Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg but “wrought chaos” in the White House, because business leaders did not know who to contact about helping with supplies. During this time, Kushner pushed experimental treatments to Trump that he learned from Silicon Valley executives, a Republican familiar with the situation told Sherman. A person close to Kushner denied this.

“Jared is bringing conspiracy theories to Trump about potential treatments,” the Republican said.

A former West Wing official added that “Trump is like an 11-year-old boy waiting for the fairy godmother to bring him a magic pill.”

Kushner also dismissed pleas from governors about severe shortages of ventilators as the caseload grew.

“I have all this data about ICU capacity. I’m doing my own projections, and I’ve gotten a lot smarter about this. New York doesn’t need all the ventilators,” Kushner said during a White House meeting, according to a participant.

Trump later grew “enraged” after Kushner oversold a plan for Google to roll out a testing website.

“Jared told Trump that Google was doing an entire website that would be up in 72 hours and had 1,100 people working on it 24/7. That’s just a lie,” a person briefed on the discussions told Sherman.

A White House official denied the claim.

“This is just another false story focused on rumors about palace intrigue instead of the actual aggressive measures President Trump has implemented to keep the American people safe and healthy,” the official told Sherman.

Kushner’s role in the coronavirus response has drawn scrutiny. The House Oversight and Homeland Security committees called on the administration to provide documents related to his work.

On Monday, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., sent letters seeking explanation about the equipment supply chain Kushner has helped oversee.

“Given the ‘unprecedented’ nature of this partnership, and the numerous reported problems with states and hospital officials being unable to obtain personal protective equipment and other medical supplies, or having shipments of these materials seized by federal officials and spirited to unknown destinations, the American people need an explanation for how these supplies are obtained, priced and distributed,” the letters said.

The government watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) also called for an ethics investigation Monday into Kushner’s team. The organization submitted a complaint to the Office of Government Ethics alleging that Kushner’s team appears to have “violated federal conflicts of interest and transparency laws.”

“Jared Kushner’s task force appears to be playing a critical role in our government’s response to a catastrophic pandemic with literally life or death consequences, and yet Americans have no way to know whether task force members are acting in our interest or their own,” CREW Executive Director Noah Bookbinder. said “We need task force members to be disclosing their interests and avoiding conflicts of interest rather than acting in secret with no oversight.”

Very true, I see it as the virus is not deadly, if it was every person in the world that gets it would in fact die. This is a novel virus, novel means new and no one knows a thing about it. What pains me are those who think they know everything, telling people they know when they don't. Those who are dying have a pre-existing or unknown pre-existing condition. Health means free from illness and disease and is a world human right, universal declaration of human rights, that can never be taken away. The problem in doing this no money would be made from human suffering. An empathic person would do anything possible a psychopathy would not. I use the movie Lorenzo's Oil to show any person can solve a problem. If you research and see how he and his wife were treated for doing so. Psychopath's do this and I am not totally certain as to why.
