Nancy Pelosi, after nearly two months of the media ignoring it, was finally asked this morning about her promotion of tourism in late February, even as the Wuhan virus had clearly escalated into a serious situation for the country. This came during a trip to Chinatown in which she told people everything was safe and that they should come visit.

The reason this is so relevant is because Pelosi has relentlessly attacked Trump as not taking the virus seriously enough in January, even accusing him of having killed people as a result. Given that, the fact that she’s on video telling people to go to Chinatown and enjoy the food a month later makes her a massive hypocrite.

Anyway, here’s her insufferable answer as to why she did it.

You see, she was just trying to fight discrimination or something. That makes sense because discrimination is defeated by encouraging people to gather in densely packed areas to spread a deadly disease. Wait, what?

One of the more ridiculous things Democratic politicians have learned to do in the last decade is to spin every flub into a topic on racism. They apparently see that as a shield whereby they can’t be criticized as long as they are flexing their social justice muscles. The reality is that Pelosi told people to come to Chinatown in late February because she didn’t know any better. And because she didn’t know any better, she has no business going after others for their response to the virus.

She wants to have it both ways though. Her words must be hand waved away, but she can basically accuse Trump of murder for actions he took before anyone believed this disease would be much of an issue in the United States.

These recriminations have become absolutely ludicrous at this point. There was no world where Trump could have taken tougher actions in January, nor even into late February. It wasn’t until early March that the magnitude of the situation was apparent enough that the public were willing to buy in. Pelosi has disingenuously attempted to act as if she were ahead of the curve long before the administration was. That’s simply false and her past statements show it to be false. No amount of hiding behind ridiculous charges of racism will change that.

Pelosi: Negotiators 'down to the fine print' on coronavirus relief package

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Monday evening that lawmakers are in the final discussions regarding the language for an interim stimulus package in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

In an interview on CNN's "Anderson Cooper 360," Pelosi indicated lawmakers were nearing a final draft of the bill, which aims to refill the coffers of a popular small business loan program that was included in the $2.2 trillion stimulus package and in which Democrats had aimed to include funds for hospitals, coronavirus testing and state and local governments.

"As we speak, we're in conversation with the final language. We have, I believe, come to terms on the principles of the legislation, which is a good thing. Then — but it's always in the fine print. And so now we're down to the fine print," she told Anderson Cooper.

"But I feel very optimistic and hopeful that we will come to a conclusion tonight, so that it can be taken up tomorrow in the Senate and Wednesday in the House of Representatives. But we can't go until we have the final agreement. But we're close," she added.

Republicans, behind Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) had wanted a clean bill, including only $250 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). Democrats, who have been negotiating in recent days with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, fought for additional funding for hospitals and state and local governments, as well as stipulations that some of the small business money go to women, minority and veteran-owned businesses.

Mnuchin said Sunday that both sides have agreed on $300 billion in new money for the PPP as well as $50 billion for the agency’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan program.

But Democratic demands for a $30 billion national coronavirus testing program and $150 billion to fund state and local governments remained as stumbling blocks Monday.

McConnell blamed Democrats for the slow pace of the legislation on Monday, accusing the party of holding up progress in the House.

“At this hour, our Democratic colleagues are still prolonging their discussions with the administration, so the Senate regretfully will not be able to pass more funding for Americans’ paychecks today,” McConnell said.

White House, Congress reach deal to replenish small business loan program

The White House and Congress have reached a deal on a new funding package that will replenish a lending program meant to aid small businesses impacted by the novel coronavirus outbreak, two administration officials confirmed on Tuesday.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and White House chief of staff Mark Meadows struck an agreement on the core components of the deal with Senate Democratic Leader Charles Schumer (N.Y.) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) early Tuesday morning.

Schumer announced the deal during an interview on CNN shortly after 8 a.m. Tuesday and White House officials confirmed after 1 p.m.

The deal includes $310 billion for the Small Business Administration’s Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), $60 billion of which is set aside for small lenders and community financial institutions; $50 billion for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program; $25 billion for testing; and $75 billion for hospitals, according to details later released.

President Trump urged the House and Senate to pass the legislation in a pair of tweets Tuesday afternoon and laid out his vision for what would be included in the next round of coronavirus legislation.

“After I sign this Bill, we will begin discussions on the next Legislative Initiative with fiscal relief … to State/Local Governments for lost revenues from COVID 19, much needed Infrastructure Investments for Bridges, Tunnels, Broadband, Tax Incentives for Restaurants, Entertainment, Sports, and Payroll Tax Cuts to increase Economic Growth,” the president wrote.

The Trump administration and congressional negotiators have been locked in negotiations over a deal to replenish the $350 billion for the PPP, which was authorized in the third coronavirus relief package signed by Trump at the end of March and ran out of funds to lend small businesses last week.

The program allows small businesses to keep workers on the payroll and in some cases has aided shops from going under completely amid the downturn. Social distancing measures and stay-at-home orders in some states meant to slow the spread of the virus have hit small business owners particularly hard.

The Senate and House will need to pass the legislation. Doing so this week will require the Senate to pass the bill in unanimous consent.

McConnell applauded the deal on Tuesday afternoon and proclaimed the deal a GOP victory.

“I am encouraged that Democratic leaders have finally agreed to reopen the Paycheck Protection Program and abandon a number of their unrelated demands,” he said in a statement.

He noted the $320 billion in new PPP money is $70 billion more than Republicans initially requested two weeks ago.

He also praised Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), the chairman of the Small Business Committee, for pushing to add $60 billion for the Economic Injury Disaster Loan progam, of which $10 billion will go to grantmaking.

He singled out Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) and Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) for adding language clarifying that farmers and ranchers will be eligible for the small-business assistance.

“I welcome this bipartisan agreement and hope the Senate will quickly pass it once members have reviewed the final text,” McConnell added.

Along with Schumer, GOP Sens. Shelley Moore Capito (W.Va.) and Chuck Grassley (Iowa), who are both members of GOP leadership, expect the deal to pass the Senate at 4 p.m.

The House is expected to vote on the legislation Thursday if the Senate passes it Tuesday.

The small business lending program has come under scrutiny this week after it was revealed that large corporations like chain restaurants and hotels were able to tap into the funds. The CEO of burger chain Shake Shack said Monday the company was returning $10 million in loans that it received through the program because the company is “fortunate to now have access to capital that others do not."

The launch of the program was marred by confusion as thousands of businesses flooded the system to apply for loans. Banks and industry officials also expressed frustration over the lack of clarity in the program’s lending set up.

Administration officials have focused on the positive influence of the program, with Trump touting on Monday that it had affected 30 million American jobs thus far.

Over the past few weeks, House Republicans have tried to paint Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) as an obstacle to legislation, as Congress has grappled over a bill to reform the small business loan program in the coronavirus stimulus package.

But according to Politico, Republicans will vote in near-lockstep against a rule change that would allow Congress to more safely pass legislation.

“Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her deputies are drafting a temporary overhaul of the chamber’s rules that would permit lawmakers to cast votes by proxy for their colleagues, allowing them to go on record without leaving home during the coronavirus outbreak,” reported Sarah Ferris, Melanie Zanona, and Heather Caygle. “But the lack of GOP support is threatening an ugly partisan clash when the House meets Thursday to pass yet another round of legislation confronting the nation’s dual health and economic crises.”

“I think you’ll see pretty close to universal Republican opposition,” said Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK). He added, *“It was probably more dangerous to get here during the Civil War. Congress looks pretty wimpy here, in my view.”

“The House proposal is a more low-tech version of electronic voting that some members have supported,” said the report. “It would allow lawmakers who are unable to come into the Capitol to still go on record for the massive relief bills — the biggest of their congressional careers — by being paired with a member in the Capitol who casts their vote.”

On Tuesday’s (socially distanced) episode of The View, no-fan-of-Trump Meghan McCain called the President’s new Pelosi ice cream ad “a kill shot.”

As previously covered by RedState’s Nick Arama, the ad positions Nancy’s cushy life with giant fridges and all the ice cream she and her family could want against that of normal Americans — people struggling due to the shutdown Pelosi’s fine with, in need of relief she didn’t mind withholding.

There’s nothing quite like tough times to expose the ivory tower in which some detached, painfully clueless elites live. And with her kitchen segment on The Late, Late Show with James Corden — complete with a tennis sweater tied around her neck (at home!) — boy, did Nancy come with the goods.

On The View, co-host Whoopi asked Meghan about her above tweet, in which she called the ad “an absolute savage blow.”

The daughter of the late Sen. John was quick to note it was a shot of the deadly variety:

“ thought this ad was a kill shot. And I think that it’s not the ice cream that’s in her fridge. It’s the fact that she’s standing behind giant refrigerators — multiple ones that cost $24,000 each. And look, you’re right, Joy — politicians are wealthy, Trump is wealthy. But I think in this specific moment, optics are narratives. And I don’t make the rules of politics. This is just how it works. And when it looks like — what she’s saying in the video, and I also agree with Joy that, if I were advising any politician at this point, I would also say, ‘Tread very carefully with a comedy show. This is not the time or the moment to be doing something like this.’”

Nancy stepped in it.

“There are too many mine fields you can step into in a situation like this. And this is an effective attack ad. And she’s talking about a quarter of a trillion dollars that she is holding up for small businesses. Now, again, I understand Democrats and Republicans are going to view this from different lenses but seeing a $24,000 refrigerator and joking about holding up money for small businesses at the same time they’re showing videos of people saying that they’re starving and showing pictures of their fridges which are empty, it is very effective.”

This was just another incredible House Speaker Nancy Pelosi performance today. And this story does not do it justice. But no single story could because Speaker Pelosi covered so many topics and just laid waste to Trump, Moscow Mitch, and the Republicans in every one of them.

Speaking on MSNBC this morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressed President Trump’s advocacy for unproven coronavirus treatments, specifically drugs like Hydroxychloroquine, adding that not only is Trump pushing for these drugs, he’s also pushing for the agencies in charge of approving medical treatments to approve “what the administration wants rather than what science demands.”

“But nonetheless … let’s just go forward,” Pelosi said. “Let’s say that what we’re doing legislatively that we will provide the resources for our health services and the rest to meet the needs of the American people, for our scientists to quickly, as soon as possible, find a vaccine, hopefully a cure even sooner than that, and that we will make sure there is integrity in how it is developed and integrity in how it’s distributed. That doesn’t exist right now according to what we’re seeing from the White House.”

Host Andrea Mitchell then mentioned how a high profile vaccine researcher was allegedly removed from his government post for questioning the wisdom of Trump’s push for unproven treatments.

“When he takes scientists out because they’re not quickly giving approvals to his preferred choice of medicines, it’s beyond me,” Pelosi said. “That is a danger to our system. Efficacy and safety, they’re the hallmarks of how a drug is proved and [moved] forward. We have seen that some things [Trump] has recommended have not been safe while he was recommending them. That’s very sad.”

Nancy Pelosi Tells CNN’s Tapper ‘Just Calm Down’ When Pressed on Needed Aid for States

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told CNN’s Jake Tapper to “just calm down” when he pressed her on those who say Congress should’ve provided more state and local funding by now with their coronavirus relief packages.

Pelosi spoke to Tapper on Sunday for a State of the Union interview, during which, she was asked if she and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer made a “tactical mistake” by conceding on Congress’ stimulus bill that focused on struggling small businesses. Tapper noted that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo objected to the legislation because it didn’t provide state and local governments with funding despite the increasingly thin spread of resources from a lack of tax revenue.

Pelosi insisted that it “wasn’t a concession” with the current bill, and in response to Tapper’s question, she told him to “just calm down.”

“We will have state and local, and we will have it in a very significant way,” she continued. “The governors are impatient. I’m a big fan of Gov. Cuomo. My own governor, Gavin Newsom, has been so spectacular, my mayor, Mayor Breed. State and local have done their job magnificently. They should be impatient. Their impatience will help us get an even bigger number.”

Pelosi concluded by insisting she has a plan to secure more money late, and “I say to members, judge it for what it does – don’t criticize it for what it doesn’t because we have a plan for that.”

At the end of an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi ) (D-CA) was finally asked about Donald Trump’s proposal that researchers should look into using common household disinfectants to treat coronavirus patients, and she had a ready answer.

After noting the president comments that outraged the public and the medical profession, the California Democrat told the smiling “State of the Union” host, “We’ve spent a lot of time on what the president said, and disinfectant in the body. You know what they call that? They call that embalming.”

“That’s the medical term,” she added as Tapper appeared to be speechless.

I not only think this is true House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is actually doing a really good job of it. Pelosi has been all over TV for more than a week now. And I mean really extended interviews on all the major networks not just the cable networks. Although she has flooded MSNBC, CNN and even Fox. She is setting the table for the next round.

Pelosi says her time is better spent speaking in a public because it’s what Trump pays attention to

MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace wondered why House Speaker Nancy Pelosi doesn’t reach out to Trump and tell him to set aside partisan politics and focus on the coronavirus. She explained it wasn’t worth the time when he has been ignoring her since she became Speaker anyway.

“Will it change his behavior?” Pelosi asked. “What he said about infrastructure and then he changed his mind. What he said about guns and changed his mind. Again, time is the most finite quantity that we all have. My time, I think, is better spent speaking to the president in a public forum, that’s something that he pays attention to.”

She said that there are certainly ongoing communications with the administration and that will continue, but Trump stopped speaking to her when she became Speaker, she said.

“Without going into the psychology of what’s worth doing as far as the president is concerned, I think it’s worth for him to listen to the scientists,” she continued. “I think it’s worth it for him to listen to the intelligence community and some people in his own administration who, I think, want to do the right thing but I bear no responsibility for his lack of listening to other people and I do my best to try to be as bipartisan as possible in my actions as we try to be respectful of other people’s views.”

Pelosi went on to say “the president’s daily briefing is just so very important to decisionmaking and the rest. So what you just heard begs the question — what did the president know and when did he know it?”
