A woman was horrified to hear doctors insulting her while she was sedated for surgery after she secretly recorded the procedure.

Ethel Easter, of Harris County, Texas, decided to record her hernia surgery by hiding a small device in her hair extensions after an unpleasant conversation with her doctor.

She had broken down and cried after he informed her she would have to wait two months to schedule the operation, she told Fox26.

And when she played the recording back after the procedure, she was shocked to hear him and other medical professionals make nasty comments about her body – as well as talking about touching her and a reference to Bill Cosby.

After her doctor told her she would have to wait months to be scheduled for surgery, she said she told him: ‘I was like “I can’t wait for two months.”

‘He got very abrupt. He said, “who do you think you are? You have to wait just like everybody else.”

His tone made her nervous, she said, so she decide to hide the recorder in her braided weave before her surgery at a hospital operated by Harris Health System.

As soon as she is heard starting to snore on tape, the doctor is heard talking about her with his colleagues in the operating room.

‘She’s a handful. She had some choice words for us in the clinic when we didn’t book her case in two weeks,’ he says.

He repeats a comment he claims Easter made about calling a lawyer about the issue while others are heard laughing.

One man asks: ‘That doesn’t seem like the thing to say to the person who’s going to do your surgery.’

Easter says the medical professionals also made hurtful comments about her body and called her ‘Precious’ – a reference to Gabourey Sidibe’s character in the 2009 film.

‘Did you see her belly button?’ a woman is heard asking, followed by the sound of laughs.

‘It was Precious meet Precious, as though I was this big, fat, black woman,’ Easter told Fox26.

She added that some of the medics called her a ‘queen’ and her doctor remarked that he felt sorry for her husband.

While Easter says she does not intend to sue anyone, she wants to share her story.

A Harris Health System spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

I think it is illegal to record someone without their knowledge...not sure, but that is my understanding....fuck Precious.

 

Texas is a 1 party consent state which means as long as you are involved in the conversation you have the right to record it even if the other person or people do not know you are recording. The same thing happened in California to a racist NBA team owner.

I once woke up during minor surgery. My gown was open and the doctors and nurses were worshipping my cock. At least that's how I remember it. Maybe it was drugs....

Im not sure where all the meanness has come from. A person deserves to be treated with respect and for the people treating them to act professionally.

 

My wife is a retired medical/surgical nurse. She commented that most doctors and medical staff are very vocal and at times very unflattering of their patients, while the patient is on the table. She once got thrown out of the operating room for chastising a doctor for his verbal abuse of the patient. She told him that several of her patients had felt very uncomfortable about their doctors after surgery, but couldn't quite explain why. She believes that some patients although not quite awake do in fact hear what is being said.

 

Maybe there should be laws where audio recording is mandatory when the patient is app the way passed out. It protects everyone.

 

That would be a possible violation of the law if the doctor or clinic did the recording due to patients rights to privacy. If the patient is not given choice then it is a violation from the wording of the law. Laws are that vague.

 

That extends both ways. She disrespected the doctors first when she expected to be put first in line and then got attitude when she was told where the end of the line was located. Don't fuck with the cook and damn well don't piss off your doctor is the moral of the story.Anyone that thinks these conversations don't happen is living under a rock. People talk shit, doctors are no exception. Was it right, no. Is it a big deal, I don't think so.

 

It's called morbid humour, people in anxiety laden jobs commonly make rude or off colour remarks about their circumstances, etc. Otherwise they'd be suffering PTSD.
