Another way we know to blame Trump is because nothing has changed. We now have the highest number of daily Covid 19 cases ever at more than 55,000 in the past 24 hours. There are still not enough testing supplies and labs to handle the demand. And Trump and Kushner and Pence haven't even managed to solve the shortage of PPE. Six fucking months and we are worse off than we were when it started. Because Trump.

Medical companies warn PPE, critical equipment situation 'not sustainable,' House memo says
The firms shared their concerns with a congressional oversight panel.

As coronavirus infections continue to spike across the U.S, six of the nation’s largest medical equipment distribution companies are raising “troubling concerns” about the Trump administration’s coordination of critical supplies to COVID-19 hot spots, according to a memo outlining a key House committee’s discussions with the companies.

New York Democratic Rep. Carolyn Maloney, who chairs the House Oversight Committee, submitted the memo Thursday to the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus ahead of its hearing on the administration’s efforts to procure, stockpile and distribute critical supplies during the pandemic. The memo was provided to NBC News.

In the memo, Maloney wrote that as the pandemic flares anew in several states, the companies are cautioning that the supply of personal protective equipment for medical staff is not meeting demand and that prices for raw materials have increased “dramatically.”

“Despite months of effort, there are still severe shortages of PPE and critical medical equipment, and the Trump administration has no coherent strategy to address these deficiencies,” Maloney wrote. The memo refers to PPE generally, but specifically warns that raw material for surgical gowns is “unavailable at any price.”

The companies that shared concerns with the committee include major suppliers, manufacturers and distributors to hospitals, medical offices and nursing homes: Cardinal Health, Concordance Healthcare Solutions, Henry Schein, McKesson, Medline, and Owens & Minor.

The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA), a conduit between the Trump administration and medical companies, told committee staff it has been imploring the administration to create a national supply chain for months.

According to the Maloney memo, Medline directly asked the administration for a federal “umbrella” but “politics has gotten in the way of that.”

The companies told committee staff that obtaining personal protective equipment for U.S. medical personnel and patients under current conditions is “not sustainable,” Maloney wrote.

The White House referred NBC News to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for comment on the memo and the companies’ concerns.

FEMA press secretary Lizzie Litzow said the task force has “ supplied critical PPE to save lives in our nation, and we worked with governors from every state and territory to provide PPE that otherwise would not have been available in our fight against this disease.”

This includes 249 flights delivering over 5.3 million N95 respirators, 937 million gloves, 122 million surgical masks, 63.3 million gowns, and 2.6 million face/eye shields.

For his part, Trump, in a press briefing Thursday, claimed U.S. companies “have all the equipment they need.”

The memo outlines the companies’ repeated requests to the White House Supply Chain Task Force for a coordinated federal response, saying they lack the data to obtain the best prices and prioritize supplies.

Instead of creating a federal clearinghouse for purchasing and distribution, a project led by Trump’s son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner known as “Project Airbridge” was created to provide free air transportation for certain companies importing PPE.

The memo says several companies told the committee that the Trump Administration “spent many weeks pressing them to buy PPE directly from one particular Chinese company” — BYD, a Chinese electric car and battery manufacturer heavily subsidized by the Chinese government — but that they declined because the administration was asking them to “purchase at a price that was fairly high.”

The White House has for months resisted calls from the nation’s top medical associations and providers to coordinate the purchase and distribution of supplies including protective gear and ventilators. The head of the American Medical Association and others called on Trump to invoke the Defense Production Act to coordinate supply and demand, including prioritizing hot spots and safeguarding against price gouging.

Attempts by states and medical providers to procure supplies through Chinese brokers has “led to a series of problems,” the memo argues, such as contractors failing to report back the price of PPE paid for by U.S. taxpayers.

The Supply Chain Task Force was created at the end of March, but the administration continues to place individual states in charge of procuring PPE, leading to bidding wars and shortages that endanger health care workers.

HIDA members said they were raising alarms directly with federal agencies as early as January 30.

FEMA, meanwhile, has been unable to provide evidence of any procurement efforts prior to March 19, even as coronavirus was raging through New York City and other hot spots at the time.

“Only the federal government has the data and the authority to provide this strategic direction to the supply chain and the healthcare system,” the president of HIDA wrote in a March 28 letter to the administration, according to the memo.

In a June 18 briefing with committee staff, the memo states, FEMA officials said the administration is playing no role in directing PPE to specific hotspots. The officials also said the Kushner transport project is now “winding down.”

While FEMA officials conceded “the supply chain is still not stable,” they claimed distributors can now “do it on their own,” the memo states.

I agree that Trump could do much better handling the covid crises. However, the main problem is people refusing to use the precautions that have been laid out by the medical community. Such as not gathering in large groups at churches, back yard parties, protests, etc, no social distancing, not wearing a mask and poor hand washing.
It's those who ignore those things that are causing the current spike in covid cases.
As an old philosopher once said. ...
Only you can prevent the spread of covid.

Florida teen dies after conspiracy theorist mom takes her to church ‘COVID party’ and tries to treat her with Trump-approved drug: report

A Florida mother took her high-risk teenage daughter to a “COVID party” at their church, tried treating the girl at home with unproven drugs when she got sick — and then hailed her as a patriot after she died.

Carsyn Davis died June 23, two days after her 17th birthday, after she contracted the coronavirus, reported the News-Press, but former Florida data scientist Rebekah Jones detailed shocking claims in a medical examiner’s report about her illness.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the teen’s last two week in the medical examiner’s report, which Jones said shows her mother, Carole Brunton Davis, had taken her June 10 to a church-sponsored event to intentionally expose her immunocompromised daughter, who had survived cancer at 2, to the potentially deadly coronavirus.

More than 100 mask-free children attended the event, and Davis gave her daughter azithromycin, an anti-bacterial drug with no known benefits for fighting COVID-19, after she developed headaches, sinus pressure and a cough, Jones reported.

Davis — whose Facebook page is awash in QAnon conspiracy theories, anti-vaccine and coronavirus misinformation and dubious legal theories — next put the girl on her grandfather’s oxygen machine after she “looked gray” on June 19.

Then she gave the girl hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug touted as a cure by President Donald Trump, despite evidence of deadly side effects, and Carsyn’s condition worsened.

Davis finally took her daughter to a hospital, where she was admitted to a pediatric intensive-care unit — but declined intubation until it was too late.

The hospital started plasma therapy on June 20 and 21, Jones reported, but Carsyn’s cardio-respiratory system was too seriously damaged and she died June 22.

“We are incredibly saddened by her passing at this young age, but are comforted that she is pain free,” Davis told the News-Press after her daughter’s death.

She told the newspaper her daughter was patriotic Christian who was involved with Operation Christmas Child and organized Christmas card writing for Ten Thousand for the Troops.

“Though she never wanted anything for herself, she was always making or buying gifts for others,” Davis said.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, is now warning that no one should take comfort from the surge in coronavirus cases.

“It’s a false narrative to take comfort in a lower rate of death,” Fauci said during a press event with Sen. Doug Jones (D-AL), according to CBS News reporter Alan He. “There’s so many other things that are very dangerous and bad about this virus. Don’t get yourself into false complacency.”

Right now in fact is states like Arizona, Texas, and Florida where they are screening patients trying to be admitted to the hospital and if they are old or have other health problems they are being sent home to die because the hospitals are overwhelmed and simply can't treat everyone.

Because of COVID-19 Trump can't brag about the economy any more. Because of 133,000 deaths from COVID-19 Trump can't call the Corona Virus fake news anymore either.

Trump's only remaining issue is the culture wars. That might win reelection for him. Democrats seem intent on remaking the mistakes they made during the late 1960's. Nevertheless, black ghetto riots are a two edged sword that can cut the Republicans too. But now back on topic. I think this is actually another form of political suicide on Trump's part. You do not fucking try to hold people's kids hostage for your own political gain. Children are the most precious thing parents and grand parents have and they will turn on you like a pack of rabid dogs if you threaten their safety and well being. Doctors have already identified a number of very serous illnesses in children who contract COVOD 19 and Trump is demanding children be infected with the virus on massive scales just because he thinks it will help him get re-elected.
