And what I actually do believe makes House Speaker Nancy Pelosi the best I have ever seen is she had one advantage over all others. Her hand has rocked the cradle. Which allows her to understand what really matters to mothers. And mothers believe it or not are the most powerful voting block in the country.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday condemned President Trump and his administration's push for schools to reopen in the fall despite rising coronavirus cases across some parts of the country.

“This is appalling. ... The president and his administration are messing with the health of our children. We all want our children to go back to school — teachers do, parents do and children do — but they must go back safely,” Pelosi said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

Pelosi also called Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’s earlier comments on CNN “malfeasance” and a “dereliction of duty.”

DeVos said the “rule” should be for U.S. schools to reopen in the fall, with some exceptions in place for localities with “flare-ups.”

“When you hear what the administration is saying, we know that they have no appreciation for the failure that has brought us to this point,” Pelosi said later. “Going back to school presents the biggest risk for the spread of the coronavirus. They ignore science, and they ignore governance.”

DeVos also said on Sunday that Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines are “meant to be flexible and meant to be applied as appropriate for the situation.”

Pelosi, however, said the CDC's guidelines should be “requirements” in order for schools to safely reopen.

She also renewed a call for Trump to invoke the Defense Production Act in order to have personal protective equipment and testing available to allow schools to safely reopen.

“All of these things are essential to controlling this virus and essential to whether our children go back to school safely,” Pelosi said.

Congress petitions Supreme Court over their ‘urgent’ investigations into Donald Trump: report

The House of Representatives is reviving efforts to obtain financial documents from Donald Trump as part of multiple investigations, Politico reported Monday.

“The House is planning to quickly revisit its effort to obtain President Donald Trump’s personal financial records, urging the Supreme Court on Monday night to take its final formal steps on the matter so lawmakers can reignite the issue in the lower courts,” Politico reported.

“In a filing late Monday, the House’s top lawyer, Douglas Letter, urged the justices to immediately effectuate their July 9 ruling on the House’s subpoena for Trump’s records. Once the ruling is in force, the House can return to the U.S. District Court judge who initially heard the case and ask for renewed consideration,” Politico explained. “But Supreme Court rulings typically don’t go into force immediately, and Letter noted that the Mazars ruling would normally take effect on Aug. 3 without the intervention of the justices. The lower courts can’t begin to take up the effort until the Supreme Court ruling takes hold, and the House is urging the justices to make that happen as quickly as possible.”

Nancy Pelosi says Trump will be ‘fumigated’ out of the White House if he refuses to leave after losing election

President Donald Trump suggested that he may not accept the results of the election if he loses, prompting a strongly-worded rebuke from Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Fox News anchor Chris Wallace pressed Trump on the possibility of a forthcoming loss in an interview which first aired on Sunday. The current polling average shows Trump trailing by nearly nine points, according to election forecaster FiveThirtyEight.

“I’m not a good loser. I don’t like to lose,” Trump said. “I don’t lose too often. I don’t like to lose.”

Wallace asked if that meant that he would not accept the election results.

“No. I have to see,” Trump replied. “No, I’m not going to just say ‘yes.’ I’m not going to say ‘no,’ and I didn’t last time either.”

Trump then brought up his debunked conspiracy theories about voting by mail, a process which has an incredibly low rate of fraud and numerous built-in protections, to claim that Democrats may “rig” the election.

Pelosi rejected Trump’s remarks in an interview with “Morning Joe.”

“The fact is, whether he knows it yet or not, he will be leaving,” she told the MSNBC morning show on Monday. “Just because he might not want to move out of the White House doesn’t mean we won’t have an inauguration ceremony to inaugurate a duly elected president of the United States.”

Pelosi said simply being present in the White House does not make someone the president.

“There is a process,” she said. “It has nothing to do with the certain occupant of the White House doesn’t feel like moving and has to be fumigated out of there.”

But host Joe Scarborough worried that Trump had already proven that he was capable of doing “whatever he can get away with.”

“I think the best and brightest minds in government and out of government now have to start . . . preparing for something that we haven’t had to prepare for,” he said. “And that is: How does our government, how does our military, how does the Secret Service, how quickly do the courts respond to a sitting president who is defeated at the ballot box and refuses to leave?”

The progressive grassroots group Stand Up America called Trump’s comments an “existential threat to our democracy” which show he has “no respect for the rule of law.”

“For five years, Trump has sought to undermine our elections again and again — from soliciting foreign interference to making baseless claims about voter fraud to lying about the results of the 2016 election,” Sean Eldridge, the group’s founder and president, said in a statement. “The American people must be prepared to mobilize if Trump refuses to concede — and we will be prepared to meet the moment if he does.”

Trump was met with pushback and skepticism from Wallace throughout Sunday’s interview.

Trump falsely claimed that presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden wanted to “defund the police.”

“Sir, he does not,” Wallace pushed back.

Trump directed an aide to find a copy of a document he claimed showed Biden wanted to “abolish” the police, but Wallace pointed out the document said no such thing. Biden actually supports increasing federal funding for police.

A similar moment occurred when Trump falsely insisted that the U.S. had the lowest coronavirus death rate in the world.

“That’s not true, sir,” Wallace replied.

Trump then directed press secretary Kayleigh McEnany to produce a chart he claimed showed that the U.S. had the “lowest mortality rate anywhere in the world.”

Fox News cut away to fact-check the president, explaining that the White House chart did not show that the U.S. had the lowest death rate in the world. It notably excluded several countries that had a lower death rate.

Elsewhere in the interview, Wallace cited polls showing more Americans believe Biden will be more competent as president than Trump.

“Well, I’ll tell you what, let’s take a test. Let’s take a test right now,” Trump said. “Let’s go down. Joe and I will take a test. Let him take the same test that I took.”

*Trump was referring to a cognitive test, which he claims left doctors “very surprised” after he aced it.

“I took the test, too, when I heard you passed it. It’s not the hardest test,” Wallace responded. “They have a picture, and it says: ‘What’s that?’ And it’s an elephant.”

“No, no, no. You see, that’s all misrepresentation,” Trump insisted. “Because, yes, the first few questions are easy, but I’ll bet you couldn’t even answer the last five questions. I’ll bet you couldn’t. They get very hard, the last five questions.”

Pelosi Calls Covid ‘Trump Virus’: His Inaction Is Making the Pandemic Worse

Speaker Nancy Pelosi called the coronavirus the “Trump virus” Tuesday as she blasted President Donald Trump for failures in his response to the pandemic.

Pelosi told Wolf Blitzer that the president showed at his coronavirus briefing that “he recognized the mistakes he made by now embracing mask-wearing and the recognition this is not a hoax, it is a pandemic.”

She said the reason it’s going to get worse before it gets better is “because of his inaction,” and then added, “Clearly it is the Trump virus.”

“What do you mean, Trump virus?” Blitzer asked.

The speaker responded that Trump could’ve been forcefully recommending mask-wearing and socially distancing instead of being dismissive and trying to hold rallies and making masks “a manhood thing.”

“You are saying thousands of Americans have died because of what the president has done or not done. Is that what you are saying?” Blitzer asked to clarify.

“Yes, that’s what I’m saying,” Pelosi said. “I think it’s clearly evident.”

On Wednesday, Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for referring to federal law enforcement officials as “storm troopers.”

Morgan told “Fox & Friends” host Griff Jenkins that Pelosi’s comments had gone “right to the heart.”He began the segment by saying that politics shouldn’t matter when it comes to public safety and protecting the people from violence, stating that “[T]his is about wanting to walk down the street and not be concerned that your baby in your stroller is going to be shot. That you can attend a funeral and there’s not going to be a war zone in the aftermath.”

Jenkins then asked Morgan for his reaction to Pelosi referring to federal officers as “storm troopers,” and to Leftist Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot calling them “Trump’s troops.”

Morgan answered:

“I’m disgusted. I’m disgusted, Griff. Look, so far this year, CBP, just CBP alone we’ve lost 10 personnel, 10 in the line of duty. And for her to refer to those men and women as storm troopers, that is — that is — it’s absolutely disgusting. It goes right to the heart because I know the character and I know these men and women that are sacrificing so much.

“When their political leaders are using disparaging terms like that, it’s just reckless and it’s untrue. These are professional, civil law enforcement individuals that are out there doing their job protecting this great nation. They are not storm troopers.”

“Politics is being place above public safety. People should be outraged,” Morgan continued, while saying that people should be wondering why their leaders oppose working together with President Trump to keep their citizens safe.

Mnuchin: Payroll tax cut won't be in GOP coronavirus bill

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday indicated that a payroll tax cut won't be in the coronavirus relief bill that Senate Republicans are expected to start unveiling shortly.

"It won't be in the base bill," he said on CNBC. He added that a payroll tax cut could be part of a subsequent coronavirus relief package.

President Trump has said that a payroll tax cut is a must-have for him. But Democrats, as well as a number of key Republicans, have opposed the idea, expressing concerns about the impact a payroll tax cut would have on the Social Security trust fund.

When Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) previewed the GOP proposal earlier this week, he didn't mention the payroll tax cut idea but said the package would include a second round of direct payments for Americans.

Mnuchin suggested that a second round of direct payments could get more money to people quicker than a payroll tax cut could.

"We think the payroll tax cut is a very good, pro-growth policy, but the president's focus is, he wants to get money into people's pockets now because we need to reopen the economy," he said. "One of the issues I think you know about the payroll tax cut is, people get that money over time, so the president's preference is to make sure that we send out direct payments quickly, so that in August, people get more money."

Mnuchin also said that enhanced unemployment insurance will not be extended at the current rate of $600 per week. Instead, the bill would provide for benefits that are based on "approximately 70 percent wage replacement."

The $600 weekly boost to unemployment benefits expires at the end of this month. Democrats want to extend the enhanced benefits at that amount, but Republicans argue that that amount is too high.

"We're not going to continue it in its current form because we're not going to pay people more money to stay at home than work, but we want to make sure that the people that are out there that can't find jobs do get a reasonable wage replacement," Mnuchin said.

Other elements of the GOP package are slated to be $105 billion for schools, liability protection and tax credits to incentivize companies to hire workers, Mnuchin said.

Senate Republicans are expected to start rolling out their proposal on Thursday. *Any coronavirus relief package will need bipartisan support to become law.

One of the things I have said many times is American democracy is just way too easy or hard depending on what piece of it we are looking at. One of the conservative/Republican plans for more than a decade is just try to make it as hard as possible to vote. Especially for minorities and the young because they tend to vote Democratic. But on the other hand the majority of Americans don't even pay attention to politics. They don't have to. They can just ignore politics and voting and everything else because just as a general rule things are usually going pretty good in their personal lives and they don't have to do anything for it.

But they can be awakened if something comes along and impacts them personally like a pandemic and being unemployed and threatened with eviction. And once awakened they get out and start looking for who's to blame for that. And so they are sitting home now worried about a job, being unemployed, and getting evicted because they can't pay their bills and when they look at who to blame for that they see Moscow Mitch and the Republicans. While House Speaker Nancy, Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and the Democrats trying to help them. And when they see them on TV saying they are trying to help but they are helpless because its Trump and the Republicans that can't get their shit together and even come up with a bill they get pissed off at the Republicans.

Pelosi, Schumer knock GOP over 'disarray' ahead of unemployment cliff

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) knocked Republicans on Friday, blaming their "disarray" for a looming expiration of enhanced unemployment benefits.

“This weekend, millions of Americans will lose their Unemployment Insurance, will be at risk of being evicted from their homes, and could be laid off by state and local government, and there is only one reason: Republicans have been dithering for months while America’s crisis deepens," the congressional Democratic leaders said in a joint statement.

As part of the March $2.2 trillion coronavirus relief bill, Congress agreed to provide a $600-per-week increase of unemployment benefits. The increased benefits are set to expire on July 31.

Lawmakers are struggling to reach a deal on how to move forward.

House Democrats approved a bill in May that extends the payments through the end of the year. Republicans have not yet unveiled their own coronavirus proposal, but Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told reporters that it would provide a roughly 70 percent wage replacement through the end of the year.

Roughly 32 million Americans are unemployed and the national jobless rate is just above 11 percent. In the last week, 1.4 million applied for unemployment insurance, according to Department of Labor data released Thursday, the first increase since March.

Both administration officials and Pelosi have said they want to get a deal by next Friday, July 31, a deadline they are all but guaranteed to miss.

White House chief of staff Mark Meadows told reporters that if they aren't able to get an agreement on a larger coronavirus deal they should break off unemployment into a separate piece of legislation. He said the issue could potentially be paired with school funding and liability protection.

But both Democrats and Senate Republicans have shot down that idea, saying Congress needs to agree to one deal instead of multiple coronavirus packages.

Pelosi and Schumer noted in their joint statement that they had been expecting to negotiate during the upcoming weekend. With Republicans not expected to release their opening offer until Monday, those talks are not expected to take place.

"It is simply unacceptable that Republicans have had this entire time to reach consensus among themselves and continue to flail. Time is of the essence and lives are being lost," they added.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi told CBS’ Face the Nation host Margaret Brennan that her new nickname for President Donald Trump is “Mr. Make Matters Worse” on Sunday in a discussion about the next Covid relief package.

Pelosi brought up unemployment insurance in response to the question of when Americans might see Congress reach a deal on a relief package. Brennan asked the Speaker if extending unemployment insurance is a “red line” for Democrats, considering Pelosi’s previous comments that they have no red lines.

“You don’t go into a negotiation with a red line. But you do go in with your values,” said Pelosi. She talked about the needs of the insurance extensions to both individual family needs as well as to the economy overall, and the potential burden on state on local governments.

Brennan then pointed out that some companies and “even universities” have expressed a need for liability protections with regard to risk of infection in workplaces and classrooms. “Are you open to a deal that includes that?” she asked.

“What we will not support is the following,” said Pelosi. “What they’re saying to essential workers, you have to go to work because you’re essential. We’ve placed no responsibility on your employer to make that workplace safe, and if you get sick, you have no recourse, because we’ve given your employer protection. And if you don’t go to work because you’re afraid of being sick, and you have that job opportunity, you don’t get unemployment insurance. This is so unfair.”

“Let’s just get to the heart of it. The point of all this is, this president–I have a new name for him, ‘Mr. Make Matters Worse’,” she said. “He has made matters worse from the start. Delay, denial, it’s a hoax, it’ll go away magically, it’s a miracle, and all the rest. And we’re in this situation, that you spelled out some of the numbers very clearly earlier.”

Pelosi Calls Barr ‘Despicable’ Over Hearing: ‘He Was Like a Blob… a Henchman for the President’

Speaker Nancy Pelosi blasted Attorney General Bill Barr over Tuesday’s contentious hearing and said he looked like a “henchman” for the president.

After talking about the Republican covid relief proposal, MSNBC’s Ari Melber asked Pelosi about the House Judiciary Committee hearing with Barr, in which Democrats got very combative with the AG on subjects ranging from federal agents in cities like Portland to the ouster of U.S. attorney Geoffrey Berman.

Pelosi said the hearing showed people “the contempt that he has for our democracy” and illustrated “the inconsistency” he showed.

“I just thought he was despicable and just so beneath the dignity of an attorney general,” Pelosi continued. “I did tune in to hear certain questions that I had an interest in his answers, and they all related to upholding the Constitution of the United States. And he felt very short in that regard.”

Melber played a clip of one Republican asking about the Speaker’s tweet denouncing “stormtroopers” and Barr’s answer calling that comment “irresponsible” and potentially dangerous to law enforcement.

Pelosi dismissed Barr’s response and brought up a “stormtroopers” comparison Rudy Giuliani drew two years ago.

“I said they acted like stormtroopers and they did,” Pelosi said. “Peaceful protest is who we are and what we do. And do some other people come along and try to disrupt? Yes. But you don’t send in people acting like stormtroopers into the scene and evoking even more unease and unrest.”

Pelosi brought up the clearing of protesters in Lafayette Square before saying of Barr, “He was like a blob, he was like — just a henchman for the President of the United States.”
