The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

One of Bush’s great mistakes was the bailout of GM and others.

The very people who created the problem were allowed to collect huge sums of money because their contracts were so airtight that short of their companies going under the companies were contractually obligated to pay them.

This notion of too big to fail was nonsense.

You can call that capitalism if you want but GM was misrun and faced no real consequences.

As far as unions go, when I lived in Detroit the UAW chose a strike target every year. It was generally for increases in wages.

By the way it was the investment of seed capital that created the wealth that allowed unions to have the power to ask for significant higher wages.

The industrial revolution required time to grow capital.

Right now the auto industry sees workers as a drain on their capital so of course they will automate more and more and send their money abroad.

This might have happened more slowly were it not for aggressive union demands.

I agree with most of this but like I said, you can't strike purely for monetary gain, at least from my understanding.
One labor law violation is enough to call for a strike vote then the membership can start to bargain for other things.

No one hires anyone they can’t make money from. Ever. Unions and collective bargaining work for employers by not having to negotiate with each and every employee.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know very much about public sector unions. (@Rixer) ;)
Does anyone remember when Reagan fired over 11,000 air traffic controllers for refusing to return to the job because they were overworked and just fucking tired?
I'm guessing a lot of unqualified people were hired to fill those jobs.
Would you have flown on a plane anytime soon after knowing that?
Ok, I'm rambling now... just remember, my friends, when @Truthful 1 first joined the forum he claimed to be an ATC.
    HA HA HA HA...:nailbiting:

They broke the law and violated their oath. When Reagan gave them a deadline to get back to work, they refused. He fired them. Can I get a WOOT, WOOT!? :p
Yeah, air traffic was delayed for a while but they had other qualified controllers to step in. Supervisors with the knowledge and experience, military and some others stepped in until they could train and bring back the numbers. It took some time.

      But I didn't fly. I was a broke ass grubber then... :(

Reagan was really hard on all labor. Labor took big cuts and the socor moms went to work without any benefits.

I remember labor doing pretty damned good for me back then. In fact, the building industry was in a funk back then after poor old Jimmy Carter fucked everything up. We were in deep recession and Reagan brought it back. It was a time I won't forget because I was in that industry and experienced it. It wasn't too long after he became President that new subdivisions were going in everywhere and life was good.

It wasn't for unions. No -one would make living wage . The more they disappear the lower wages will go . Gm employees should get to gether and say yo lets get this shit over with . Before they get a royal fucking . I personally hope GM goes out of fucking business like they should have during the obama years .

Harley Davidson, another one Fuck them also.
they don't give a shit about their customers whatsoever . I still would buy no other bike for the street , but ill never buy another new one . can't wait till they go out of business . In is making a very nice bike now . but where the hell do you go to buy one . there is almost no market for big bikes , I don't know how any of them are staying in business. Young people seem to have no interest in motorcycles now

Can you think of a more loyal and dedicated customer than Harley owners? They got a financial leg up from Ronnie Regan who also slapped tariffs on Japanese imports. Are their assembly plants unionized? Are they saying greedy workers are the root of all their woes?

No there is no other customer who is as loyal as Harley owners , do I talk funny? Harley is not loyal to their customers . and screw Japanese imports, but you're not taking my Yamaha or my Honda away from me . I've owned 13 Harley's I still have two of them i'd say I'm pretty loyal . I don't complain about the bike it's their service that sucks

GMC strikes, sales go down, company needs money and seeks bailout and maybe USA will do it but Canada's answer will be "Hell No!"
You closed plants, put folk out of work and stopped building cars, so ask Mexico to bailout your arses.

Union have never ask for so much to cause a plant to close. Union is a business in its self. The way a union makes money is union dues. If a company closes,on money for the Union. Sometimes unions take cuts to help company stay open.

I know 2 people who were secured debt holders of GM. Combined they lost about $200,000. GM and Chrysler should have both went bankrupt back in 2008. BUT they didn't. Fuck'em ALL!!!

ITS not the pay its the liabilities into the future for employees not making product that cost them a shit ton of money.

Oh and if anyone tells you your gonna have a 8% annualized rate of return FOREVER trust me i'll guarantee it. Well know you know that doesn't exist and never will.

Canada bailed Chrysler with loans and them lost the money when they sold to Fiat. Oh well we got some jobs. Sheesh.

That only involves 3 plants in 3 states and 3,600 workers. Florida Pennsylvania, and Maryland are involved so far. These workers are out because their contract with the company had expired on October 1, 2019.

    Shooter has been a union member and represented the employer side in labor issues. Some thoughts;

    1) no matter the industry, no matter the size of the workforce, union or nonunion, employers do not hire employees who cannot contribute to the bottom line.
    2) Employers will always seek the lowest possible labor cost. The smart ones will take into account employee satisfaction, turnover costs and worker safety, but they will not spend money without a reasonable expectation of a return.
    3) Unions will always put self interest first, member interest second. This is not a bad thing.
    4) Unions want to control as much of members pay and benefits as possible. This is where they get their power.
    5) strikes rarely provide members with more money than they would have made without a strike.
    6) almost without exception, strikes are about power and control, not pay, benefits, working conditions or profits.
    7) Unions almost always win the media contests.
    8) power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts, absolutely.

Definitely not all Unions are created equally. In the US corruption was caused by organized crime getting their foot in door by providing muscle to combat corporate goons and skull splitters. This problem lingers to this day. Not the violence part but the influence remains in many unions. Where is Jimmy Hoffa? Who cares.

G M has never tried to settle a contract in good faith. Ronald Reagan was always on the side of
Corporations. He said in one of his contract speeches with the UAW that both sides could afford a new car. Management could buy a new Lincoln and labor could buy a new Ford Galaxy.Labor had their own country clubs and churches, management had theirs .
Hope Trump backs labor this time. The working people helped put him in office.
