The only thing that will save this planet from destruction is a over all reduction of our numbers.we are beyond our planets(carrying capacity) means of sustaining humanity naturally, in its current number, and form.It doesnt make a difference what type of energy source we use.We either need to reduce our number by sending them to space to terra form another plantet .or start sterilizing the general masses.

Since I am already up to my ass in allegators on sterilizing the masses on another thread I guess I won't go that far, but on the other hand since I've just read a really great article on stable growth economics, which points out the necessity for population limits I agree we can't just keep growing.

But I also disagree there are not things we could be doing right now today. On population for starters we could elect a president who does not tie his domestic and international policies to Evangelical views which promote things like abstinence based only programs instead of birth control education.

And we can legalize hemp and get serious about bio fuels and other renewable energy sources.

Well if I can't be first can I at least be next.

As I recall you have because your ass is out of this world.

Now when we talk about adding to global warming I would like to add these observations.

I just came out of the coal bed methane gas fields in the powder river basin. They routinely allow the methane to escape into the atmosphere and its a serious green house gas. The wells also produce a huge amount of contaminated water which in many cases they just discharge into streams and draws.

In the gas field just 15 miles from my house they fracture the formation with liquid CO2. They not only allow all this CO2, literally tons of it, to escape back into the atmosphere, the also routinely allow the CO2 to escape into the atmosphere so they can save the transportation costs of hauling it back to a storage facility. This in ENCANA by the way.

 

And you work in this industry, shame on you. How do you sleep at night, knowing that you are contributing to the whole GW problem at a rate many times the rest of us?

 

I sleep real easy. First because a man does what he has to do to make a living for him and his family. Second, because I work on drilling rigs and it might seem like splitting hairs to you but the drilling contractor and the roughnecks don't have anything to do with those whores ripping all of us off at the gas pump and polluting the atmosphere. All we do is drill a hole in the ground and move off and as far as we know they could be cutting that hole in to post holes once we're gone. And third and most importantly I rest easy knowing I have always told the truth about the oil companies, tried to expose their lies and warned as many people as possible what was really going on out there.

 

The post was intended as tongue-in-cheek, but I do know where you're coming from here. There are many thousands of hardworking folks in the oil/gas industry. Those who do so, help keep us in the game, so to speak.

The practises of all industrys are suspect at times, more so to those who work in them. While I challenge you at times, I do not disrespect you for your position or knowledge. My take is that most of the problems in our industrial sector are blown out of proportion to reality.
