  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

It's an end of an Era. Admins haven't fixed anything because they probably have stopped caring. Everything comes to an end and it seems sexstories has as well.

Very disappointed. But it's a free site. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did. I'll look for old stories.

I'm not really sure your attitude of "it's the end, sexstories is dead" is helping anything. I've changed my style to just looking through most recent stories (and, for fun, searching with a particular first name like Sydney or Justin and seeing what I can find) instead of focusing on popular stories, but there's still value to this site. Current events and lack of management in some areas has led to setbacks, but there are still stories, including new ones, that are worth our time. Sexstories will only truly be dead when nothing on here is worth reading anymore, and today is not that day.

I don't know about anyone else here, but I find it bizarre to see someone on this forum complaining over and over about problems and then declaring and re-declaring the site to be "dead" or insisting that they won't post or read stories here again. Before any other labels one could ascribe to it, it just sort of comes across as a bit dishonest and soapbox-y (and that's me calling people soapbox-y). I get mentioning it once, and I get agitating for change, but what is actually accomplished by suggesting over and over that you're totally going to leave the site or the site is dead or something?

I see this in so many forms. I would have thought that given you can see the silliness of people whining about how their story ratings "should be" higher, throatHer, I wouldn't see that kind of rhetoric from you. It seems that this forum, for a lot of people, isn't a place to celebrate good stories or agitate for change when things go wrong or even get angry about the house you're living in. It's just a place for people to talk about the decrepit old house they've totally moved out of while still sitting in that house, week after week. If you've been talking for months about moving on to another site, you just look like a bitter liar. I don't want to say "if you keep talking about moving to a new site just do it already" but it seems like you're just causing yourselves more pain and bitterness at this point. It's helping no one. It's an unhealthy addiction to one's own bitter grief.

"The ratings are so bad and I'm not posting any more stories to this site and this site is dead and I'll be moving on to a new site." Yeah, whatever you say, Dave. You come in here every week to say that, over and over. It's like still being in love with your ex and being in denial about it.

You really do enjoy telling people over and over, what they should do, how they should post and how they should use the forum. Sorry, just my observation.

I guess a moment of clarity has to exercised regarding my comment about this site being "dead."

I guess it was taking literally, but I am here to set you all straight.

Dead- no longer functioning, especially because of a fault.

Hmmmm- who should I place the fault on?

How about the algorithm gods. YES... it is they who have smited us all with poor coding and inconsistencies since the dawn of this new year.

Let's blame the authors - who, as of late, have penned shit work and deserve the rating they do.

Let's blame the reader- downgrade good stories and up tick shitty ones.

Let's blame patreon- good stories are now behind a pay wall to leave the shitty ones on a free site.

Or let us blame throatHer- for pointing out the truth and now just watching it unfold.

Sorry for the use of shitty repeatedly but if it works it works.

My word isn't law. But it's always the truth.

No blame, my friend, just a few thoughts out loud. Mild criticism. There's no obligation to listen to it; it was meant as a broader comment.

But congrats to sisterinlaw who had appearently written the perfect story. I've not read it yet, so I don't have any comments on the merits of the story. Maybe the down voters have gotten bored and left, or are satisfied to have driven off the regular authors.

The difference seems to be that votes on that story are open to registered accounts only. I'm sure that wouldn't stop a determined enough downvoter, but if you get a few positives in early before you switch it to account-required, it appears you can buy a fair amount of time at the top.

Interesting. I thought a registered vote counted as 4, but they have 5 positives.

Oh, does it? I didn't know that. Maybe it doesn't count for 4 when it's in registered-only mode because obviously all of them will be registered, so there's no point weighting it extra.

Guess I'm getting a good dose of reality check. Part 1 of my first ever story just got published and did pretty well for the first 4000 reads but now things have started to go downhill with negative votes piling up. What's disappointing is that almost 6000 reads and not one comment. I mean if a reader hates something it'd be helpful to know why. Did they hate my characters? Was the sex too pedestrian? Do they just hate teen girl stories? You would think someone could throw a few words at me to let me know why they chose the rating. Oh well, time for me to try harder to write something better!

Does anyone know what the read counter really means? Does it count stories actually scrolled through to the end? Or does it simply mean someone clicked on it and then could have never actually read it?

Also, is there a guideline for maximum story length? My story is about 60K words and I broke it into 4 parts. It really needs to be read from beginning to end so wondering if the system would have allowed a single post of 60K words?

    Thanks

I, too, have been flabbergasted at the extremely low percentage of readers who bother to comment. This is also true on Literotica and SmashWords. LushStories gets more feedback. But they are so picky about content that I rarely try to publish there.

Can someone explain the difference between "reply" and "comment?"

Hi AG31. Comment adds your text to the same message as you can see here. Your comment and my comment appear under my post about my story rating. If you use reply instead, then it gets posted as a new topic under the main thread for the author's lounge.

I wouldn't take the downvotes personally. The unfortunate truth is that mathematically, when the goal is keeping your story at the top, the most efficient way to do it is by downvoting everyone else's story. It's terrible, and thankfully not everyone does it, but it's still gotten worse than ever even in just the last year.

This is also the reason for the lack of comments. It's not that people dislike specific aspects of your story (although some might, but just don't feel like commenting). A lot of the downvoting is simply strategic in nature. My two stories combined have 36492 views at the time I'm writing this post, and neither one has a single comment. I'd imagine it's also true that most people come to the site to jerk off rather than to evaluate and review works on their literary merits.

I haven't read your story, but based on what you've said I think the decision to break it into 4 chapters is the right one. 60k words can be intimidating to a reader who maybe doesn't feel like making as large of a time investment. Breaking it up avoids that. Plus, publishing regularly establishes you as a frequent contributor and people see your name more often that way. And finally, people seem to like the serial style and enjoy waiting for new chapters of their favorite stories. The great majority of stories in the top/30d section of the homepage are chapters rather than one-shots.

Unfortunately lack of comments and mindless down votes have hurt the site. Better chance to get comments on this board. More people will read it the other site.

Not sure I agree with this. Youtube did this and got criticized by everyone under the sun. People do need some method of getting a ballpark idea of quality at a glance. Even in the current I'm certain there are legitimate downvotes too, they're just outnumbered by the ones that are trying to game the system. Maybe the solution is disallowing downvotes from a VPN; I imagine that's how the mass-voters are doing it. It's not a perfect solution but it's probably better than the status quo.

Maybe you should have to log in to down vote. If you think a story deserves to be downvoted, put your name on your complaint. A reason would be nice, but let's not get crazy.

This isn't a bad idea. It does hand a disproportionate amount of power to authors who can see exactly who dislikes their stories and can contact them directly, but as it is right now, an even more disproportionate amount of power is given to completely anonymous people. It's a lesser of two evils.

I have been writing a novel and toyed with the idea of having a main novel series that is more mainstream, and then branching off into one of the same storyline but more explicit. They I decided to jump into writing short stories that could be taken from each scene.. I’m not sure if this is an ADHD malfunction at its finest or just some kind of writers madness. Thoughts?

If nothing else, this site is giving me an education and insight into people. I've received a second negative comment about the fact that my story mentions that the main character is attracted to girls 13-16 even though it then states that he never did anything about his attractions. This then leads to an interpretation of "sick pedophile" from some. The story eventually evolves to sex with a 16 yo which I thought was within the site guidelines. It is age of consent in my location but the site rules seem less clear. The fact that the story is fictional fantasy does not seem to matter.

What's is interesting is that I have taken the time to read some of the 90+ rated stories posted in the last year and found that incest is a major theme. That would seem to be as concerning as sex with a 16 yo, yet you don't see comments regarding the illegality of the actions in the story. There is one story where no ages are mentioned but it clearly says the girl is a year away from starting high school so she is basically 13. It too has a high score and no comments regarding criminality.

I realize the comments are so few that no real conclusion can be drawn. But it is an interesting look into how folks interpret things.

The age parameters are fourteen and up. It will help if you type fourteen rather than 14. You will more than likely not get flagged.

You will find if you haven't already but Incest is King on this site.
