We’re doin’ a spin on a low country boil. Boiled red skin potatoes and corn on the cob, cooked in a pot with garlic and dill. But for seafood we’re picking up boiled shrimp from the Freezer, those who know this area of Florida know how good they are.

A very lazy sheet pan meal. Roasted carrots and Brussels Sprouts and sliced kielbasa tossed in olive oil and a spice blend I make with smoked sugar, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and dried herbs from my garden.

Thanks! They were pre-stuffed by the meat department at the store, so all I had to do was put them in the oven. It's not something thy always have, so I get them when they do.

If I told you what I’ve been eating I’d be accused of bragging. I’m travelling and the food’s been terrific.

But I wanted to share specifically what I had as an appetizer last night while out at an excellent Italian place - buffalo mozzarella.

Sweet fancy crackers that is some next level cheese. If you get the chance, have some.

I had it once, and it was fantastic.

Actually, we had regular mozzarella with soppressata and crackers for a late lunch yesterday.

It’s yet ANOTHER chilly, damp, windy day, so there’s a big pot of stew on the stove, which we’ll have with biscuits & an herbed compound butter. I prepped the crust & filling for an apple pie… will put it in the oven closer to dinner time.
I made sure we have vanilla ice cream and whipping cream in the house. Learned THAT lesson long ago… just because I think it’s ridiculous to want ice cream on your pie when it’s so cold doesn’t mean that everyone else feels the same way!

Most of us don't crave ice cream in the dead of winter. Unless you're from Iceland. They LOVE their ice cream year round.

"Icelanders have always loved their ice cream and eat it no matter the outside temperature,” said Íris Sveinsdottir, who teaches Icelandic cooking classes in Reykjavik with Traveling Spoon. “It's just as popular during the winter as in the summer.”

I just don’t get it, but I’m told that it’s warm enough indoors to have ice cream whenever you want it, ESPECIALLY when you’re having warm apple pie!

Another lazy meal because having two sick kids is the worst. Mushroom, onion, pepper, cheese, and bacon frittata, apple slices, and white chocolate chip pancakes. It was good though.

I’m at a fave Greek restaurant. The chef spotted me and said he’d like to try something to see what I thought, he’s thinking of adding a dish to the menu. I’m always game to try new things, why not? Surprise me.

After a Greek salad and some bread, he served me a monstrous beef short rib in a tangy tomato sauce, served over orecchiette. Feta crumbled over top. I already had a half-carafe of the best Pinot Grigio Canada has to offer.

Talk about a battle of regional and cultural flavours. I honestly didn’t want to like it, but I can’t deny it’s delicious. I can’t wait for him to come out to discuss it over coffee and baklava.

I think I’d lose the feta.

It was really good. My brain was wrestling with it, though - orecchiette at a Greek place? :O_o:

And the sauce didn’t seem quite right as a pasta sauce, although it tasted just fine. It was excellent over the short rib.

I’d definitely lose the melted feta on top.

I ate the whole thing. Oooof I was so full.

The pasta should be easy to swap out for something more thematically appropriate, but I'm having a hard time imagining cheese on top ever being a bad decision.

Pasta is Greek anyway, they took it to Italy in the first place.
