You may be right, but only because there are people out there who are sufficiently blinkered to refuse to accept science, or find it necessary to 're-write' it because they are that insecure in their beliefs, and the compatibility of those beliefs with accepted thought.

Of course, I stress again that these people are not indicative of the vast majority of Christian or religious people.

 

No I wasn't trying to claim this guy was representative of christians across the board, just that it was funny. I do think that it is almost required to be a christian to take this guy seriously though. I had actually seen him before several years ago. In 2000 when I was in military tech school, I had a roomate for about a week before our dorm flooded that owned many of this guys tapes and spoke very highly of him. I didn't really watch them at the time, but almost wish I had now.

I suppose you would have to see more of his "work" but in one instance where he was explaining where all the water from the flood came from he said that at one time there was a solid layer of ice suspended in space around the earth. This protected us from x-rays but now that it is gone we are experiencing the negative effects of it. So when the ice started to melt it came crashing down on the earth causing noahs flood and killing the dinosaurs. But the solid pieces were attracted magnetically to the poles and is why we see it there now.

The type of things he says can only be stomached by someone with an encyclopedic ignorance of nature yet have a desire to have it explained in very simple albiet meaningless terms. That doesn't have to be a christian, but those attracted to the way religion explains things will be distinctively attracted to it. Add in that it reconfirms old notions that many christians hold onto "religiously," and will only hear sides of the story supporting their position, and I think my statement "it is almost required to be a christian to take this guy seriously" isn't that absurd.

 

I can't imagine anybody with even a basic (pre-high school) understanding of science taking anything he says seriously. It boggles my mind that this guy's seminars carry any weight whatsoever, anywhere.
