    Chapter 22 - Mind Warriors (Part 1)

    Chapter 22- Mind Warrior

Jon sat at his desk, staring at the pile of cards before him. The earlier duel with Jim had shown that the elf deck had needed much more work before being tournament worthy. Thus the current moment of indecision. Jon had been running a rather potent necro deck of late, but last week he had noticed a larger then average number of anti-black decks running around. It was only to be expected of course. While he didn’t necessarily claim top honors in every competition, he did always place in the top five. Thus people either tried to imitate his decks, or find a way to thwart them. The latter was the preferred option, as few people could comprehend what went through his mind when he crafted his decks. After all, few truly understand the insane.

Once more he reviewed his options. The green stompy deck was out. There was too much protection and kill running around for it to be viable. The red deck ran into similar problems. Black and white decks could match its speed, and green could out size the army it provided. He wasn’t really a fan of white, and generally only played his weenies if he was out to lose (people worried less about you if you lost occasionally), and he wanted to win this week, if only to show off for Stef. Finally, he really didn’t want to build a new deck, as he already had more then enough of them running around. He sighed. He had one option left. Man, Savan was going to be really pissed off at him for this one.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It had become known as the god deck. It was nothing unique, a black/blue discard/counter deck. Most of the cards were fairly common, especially since many tended to be released in reconstructed decks. That wasn’t the problem. The only cards of significant value in the deck were a pair of Palinchrons. The problem was the deck’s uncanny ability to respond to his needs. Heart of the cards and such bullshit aside, it did seem to possess an awareness of the way the match was going. If a big creature hit play, bounce spells came to hand. If the opponent was trying a big combo, counter spells made themselves readily available. As a final touch, besides a few smaller pingers and walls for defenses, the Palinchrons never came up until it was time to land a finishing blow. They hid near the bottom of the deck, but as soon as the opponent was cracked they would rise to draw blood in battle. The only times they showed otherwise would be if they were need to deal with a creature swarm.

The deck had become widely feared, and soon claims of cheating had been put forward. The few times the deck had been played by another, it failed to “react” the way it did for Jon. Savan had worried about this, and put the deck through several tests. Though Jon was cleared in name, it was recognized that the deck was above and beyond all others. As such, with the exceptions of a finals match, Jon was forced to take a five point handicap when ever he played it.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jon grabbed the deck, bound within its black sleeves, and placed it into the top pocket of his backpack. Already the bag was filled, containing the chips, water, and power bars he would need for the coming battles. Satisfied that he was prepared for the next day, he sealed the zippers and logged on to his computer. He was randomly surfing the web comics he read, when his cell began to ring. A quick check of the number calling told him it was Stef.

    “Hey what’s up?” he answered.

“I was wondering about two things about tomorrow. When should I show up, and should I bring anything?” she asked.

“The games start at one, though I and Jim will show up around noon. So sometime between twelve and one is fine for showing up. As for bringing anything, it depends. You plan on staying for the whole tourney?”

“Of course. Why wouldn’t I?” Stef was puzzled by the question

“Well, they can run kind of long. They don’t normally end till around five or six.” he replied.

“So then I take it I should bring some food or cash?” she asked.

“You got it. I personally bring a bit of both. Snacks are great for the tourney, and Savan doesn’t like people bringing mall food in, but Jim and I normally go out and hit a stand afterwards for dinner.”

“Ok then. I’ll bring both as well. What should I wear?”

“Clothes? Don’t take that the wrong way. You are going to be spending four or five hours with a group consisting almost entirely of geeks and nerds. Most of these guys can’t even speak to a girl. So you’ll be getting stared at no matter what.”

“Umm, ok I guess. I’ll see you tomorrow then. Bye doll.”

“Good night.” Jon waited till he heard the click of her phone hanging up and then folded his own phone closed. Glancing at the clock, he realized that it was nearing twelve thirty. It was time to crash.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The next day was overcast. Low rumbles of thunder could be heard in the distance. Jon couldn’t help but smile. Storms always excited him. He saw them as good luck charms. Climbing into his car (it really belonged to his parents, but they ‘loaned’ it to him) he was more then eager to get to the Pit. There was nothing that could ruin his good mood.

He parked the car in one of the reserved spots. Savan lived quite close to the mall, so he rarely drove. As owner of a store, he had been given a space for himself and three employees. As he ran the store himself, he had willingly distributed the passes amongst his better customers and friends. Both Jim and Jon had qualified as such, and both willingly accepted the gift of free parking. After all, it saved them several dollars each week, and that was more money they could spend at the Pit. He noticed Stef had parked near where he and Jim had parked their cars, and was glad that she had decided to show up early. She had gained an understanding of Magic watching him and Jim play, but knowing the game and knowing the cast of characters that played it were two entirely different things. Walking into the Pit, he noticed that a larger crowd then normal was on for the tournament. This wasn’t entirely unusual, as there were a few amateur players who only came when there was nothing to do outside. The storm had sent many of them down to the Pit. As far as Jon was concerned this was a good thing, as not only did they rarely place, but they also upped the prize pool on the days they played. Near the counter he noticed a somewhat smaller crowd. Jim was talking with Savan and Brian, a fellow player. Brian wasn’t a local, instead driving in from Nikilin to play in the tourneys. He was somewhere between Jim and Jon when it came to playing, and he had an easy going nature that made it easy for people to like him. The three were talking, but were also all facing the same direction. Stef was with them, but she looked slightly nervous, as she kept glancing around the store. When she saw Jon she brightened, and walked over to him.

“Hey glad to see you made it.” He greeted her.

“Wouldn’t miss it! Though admittedly, some of these guys are kinda strange.” she replied.

    “Really? How so?” he asked.

“Let me put it this way. What’s a Torrusque?” she questioned.

“Depends. D&D or Starcraft?” he asked.

“GAH!” was the only response she could come up with

“Hahaha. Don’t worry about. Come on; let’s see what’s going on. What are Jim and the others talking about?”

“I don’t know. Some guy with a really weird name.”

    “Huh.”

Jon walked over to Jim. He, Brian, and Savan ad stopped talking and were silently watching a small group across the room. Jon glanced over and saw a large group of younger players gathered around someone. Every so often they all burst out laughing.

“Hey what’s going over there?” he asked Savan.

“He’s back.” It was all the reply offered.

    “Whose back?”

“Bayboy.” Jon grimaced at the answer.

Bayboy was infamous at the pit. During the early days, he had been one of the top players, evenly matched with the other warlords. There was one major difference though. His decks were all ‘bought’.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Savan had been a gamer for many years before opening the Pit, and had built as a haven for true gamers. As such, one of the major beliefs was in the purchasing of booster packs. The rise of online auction houses such as eBay had made it so that anyone with a credit card could purchase rare and powerful cards. “Booster farms” formed solely for this goal, purchasing and opening boosters, then selling the rare cards at high prices, made all the steeper by bidding wars. Purchasing such cards was a tricky subject. The entire point of random booster packs was that rare cards would be evenly distributed, allowing players to remain on close levels with each other, their individual deck building and thinking skills determining matches. Card farms made these rare cards available to everyone. As a result, copycat decks soon over ran the tournament scene. Only a few individuals stuck to the packs, but in general they were the ones with talent, such as Jon.

This in the end proved to their benefit. As people began to play similar decks, it made it easy to build counter decks, and as a result, having a ‘bought’ deck (a deck formed from online guides, with cards purchased online) became a risky proposition. People knew what you had and how to beat it. With that knowledge, they were guaranteed to win, dooming the eBay warriors, as they became known, to defeat. This was especially dangerous in the Pit, which had already been attracting skilled players. They also held another belief, which soon became just as important. Buying boosters at the Pit meant the Pit had money to keep operating. Thus, they could continue playing at the Pit. It was rather circular logic, but it worked.

As with all rules, however, there was an exception. Andy, or the Bayboy as he became known, didn’t care about the Pit. He merely wanted to win. He had no problem purchasing his cards online, and he was smart enough to craft his own decks rather then an internet one. Thus he began to dominate the weaker players, including the new comer Jim. This brought him to the attention of Jon, who set out to teach him the error of his ways.

The duel they fought was epic one. By then end of the match Jon had been defeated, though he had managed to nearly succeed in a come from behind victory. It was also one of the three times the god deck lost a match. It would have ended there, but for one thing. Like many who lack a sense of honor, Andy had no problems with cheating, even when he was the superior player. In an even match, it gave him the edge. IT was through these tactics that he beat Jon and would have gotten away with it had it not been for his own arrogance. Having claimed victory, Andy had risen and begun to dance around, jumping and waving his arms about in order to belittle Jon. This caused the cards he had hidden literally up his sleeve to go flying all over the place and to fall out the bottom of his jacket. Those who had been watching knew immediately what had happened. Savan promptly banned him for a year from the store, despite his many protests. The year passed, and Andy failed to return. This was considered for the best by all involved then. The name Bayboy was given to him, and many jokes were made at his expense.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Andy never forgot his defeat. He was ostracized by other gamers, and soon became horribly depressed. During one of his many funks, he punched a bully who had been trying to get his lunch money from him. The punch had felt good, and he proceeded to truly let loose. After they returned from their respective suspensions, the bully began to follow Andy. Thus was the Posse born.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That had all been over two years ago. Now Andy had returned, and the younger gamers seemed impressed as he regaled them with the tales of his many victories. Brian had not been around then, but he had heard the stories of Bayboy, and was hardly impressed by what he saw before him. Savan wanted him gone, wishing for the times that had been before now. Jim and Jon simply wanted him dead. They knew he ran the Posse, and they knew what the Posse had been pulling for the jocks. Savan turned to Jon, the greatest player eligible for the tournament.

“Which deck did you bring?” he asked. He had a fairly decent working knowledge of Jon’s decks, having sold most of the cards that were in them, having awarded the rest of them.

    “I brought God.” Jon answered.

“Good. For today, I lift the penalty. You get full life for all matches.”

“Doubt I’ll need it but thanks. Why though?” Jon was curious. Even with the penalty he almost always made it to finals, which automatically lifted the penalty on a temporary basis.

“Andy didn’t come alone. There were two others with him.”

“You think he brought a few bleeders of his own huh?”

“Right. And I don’t want any of them walking off with prizes.”

“So how we playing then?” This was the best way to knock off a player. Certain formats could cripple a player if their plan called for something else.

“Do you want Emperor or Knights Joust?” Savan asked.

“What do you guys think?” Jon asked his fellows.
Jim and Brian replied in unison. “Knights.”

“You joining us Brian?” Jon asked.

“Nah, if I take a camp of my own, it’ll improve their odds of defeat. I’ll post a ringer against him, and take one of the bleeders myself. That ok?” he asked Savan.

    “Yeah go for it.”

    “Thanks.”

The group broke up at that point. Jim went to find a third, while Jon sat with Stef.

“So what’s going on?” she asked.

“Some one is here who should have stayed gone. So we were cooking up a plan to get rid of him.”

    “Let me guess. Andy?”

    Jon nodded

“So what’s the plan?” she asked.

“We are going to hit him with a team tournament. The prizes will be slightly biased, or Savan is going to give out some store credit to a team, but right now I don’t think he cares.”

    “Why not?”

“Savan opened this place for gamers who enjoy the games. Not winners.”

“But don’t you win a lot?”

“Yeah I do. But that’s because the only thing more important to me then gaming is you.”

“Thanks.” Stef wrapped her arms around him and gave him a tight squeeze. He gave her a gentler one in return.

Jim soon returned another of the bleeders in tow. James was no where near the level that Jim and Jon played at, but he had a nasty tendency to pull some hare brained combo off, which normally got him a win. He had beaten both Jim and Jon at one time or another, and would make an excellent third string.

Savan called out the format for the rest of the crowd. The next twenty minutes were of utter chaos as people linked up into teams and registered for the games. Jon and his followers sat there, Savan having already written them down at the head of the list. Andy and his followers were placed at the far end, meaning they would have to make it to the finals in order to face one another. Brian’s team ended up closer to Andy, the better to eliminate him slightly earlier.

As the final team paid their entry, Savan wrote them in. Their bad luck made them the first of Andy’s opponents, and their defeat would be a swift one. Savan stood himself on a small stepstool so that he could be seen above the milling crowd. He quickly called out the rules. Each match would consist of three simultaneous duels. The team to win two duels first claimed victory, and would advance. Otherwise, the team would be eliminated. Decks would be free format, anything goes. He then quickly called out the match ups for the first round.

The rules finished, Savan had but one more thing to add.

    “Let the games begin!”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A/N: First and foremost, no, the story is not dying, nor will it any time soon. Even we mighty dragons get sick, and last week was such a time. I then had to spend this week making up work for last week. F***ing colds! That said; expect a few more updates this weekend, including the second half of this chapter. Now, for what you all waited for! The quiz results!

    Chapter 23 - Mind Warrior (Part 2)

Chapter 23- Mind Warrior Part 2

The games moved at an odd pace. Jon’s team and Andy’s team both managed to win heir own matches at fairly quick speeds. Other teams moved slightly slower, stall decks moving them along at a snail’s pace. This caused a lull in between the matches, so the group ended up just sitting around talking.

“So how’s Kentai been doing?” Jim asked. The bear wasn’t a regular topic at school, as no one wanted to risk being overheard.

“Who’s Kentai?” James asked. He had been doing ok, and Jim and Jon had forgotten about him.

    “Um, Stef’s dog?” Jon answered.

“Ah ok.” James walked off, his stomach insisting it was more important then some girl’s dog. Jon turned back to Jim as he walked away. Stef walked back in, having left for the facilities a few minutes ago.

“So how is he doing?” Jim asked again.

    “Who?” asked Stef.

    “Kentai.”

“Oh.” she replied. “Fairly well actually. He’s getting kind of big, but he’s been fairly well behaved. The training has been working out rather well.”

    “What training?” Jim wondered.

“I’ve been working with him, teaching him a few simple commands.” Jon informed him.

‘Since when have you been qualified to train a large animal?”

“Since I googled it. God bless Google, the ultimate research tool!” The boys began laughing, and Stef just rolled her eyes. Going out with Jon was great, but she still found his sense of humor to be a tad bit strange.

“Well, as long as he’s doing fine. Give him an apple or fish or whatever you guys use as treats for me.” Jim asked.

“Sure will.” Stef agreed. The conversation changed to the topic of the various evils of teachers. The complaints were the typical one, too harsh, too much work, and so forth. They talked like this for several more minutes, until the boy’s next match was announced. Jon and Jim walked off, headed for the table. Stef decided to go walk around the mall, to see of there were any interesting sales or events she might be interested in.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The games continued with out any major events for another hour or so. Then a minor setback occurred.

“We lost.” Brian told them, walking over from his last match.

    “To who?” Jon asked

“Andy and his team. I don’t know where he found those two, but they are fairly strong players.”

“Anything you can tell us?” Jim asked. Information was the key to winning anything.

“The other two are running white and blue decks, but Andy’s running a blue/black. I can’t give a hundred on this, but I think he based it off of God there.”

“What makes you say that?” asked Jon.

“It pulled that Megrim/Recoil combo you like so much, then decided to drop four Palinchrons. Trust me, he copied yours.”

“Damn. Alright, we still have a few rounds to figure out what we want to do about this.”

Those next few rounds passed quickly. By this point many of the remaining players had experience on their sides, and they could tell when they had lost. As such many games were now decided by surrenders rather then a forced kill. Many such were surrenders were offered to Jon, and he accepted them with a smile. In the few minutes between matches, tips and ideas were exchanged and debated, and there were none of the bruised egos that normally occur in such matches.

The last rounds of the semi-finals came to a close, and as predicted, Andy and Jon would be soon facing each other. As it was wont to do, disaster decided to strike then, the most inopportune time. James’s cell phone began to ring. He answered, and his face turned pale at the news coming from the other end of the connection. He turned to his teammates and broke the bad news.

“My mother just got into a car accident. My dad’s coming to pick me up so that we can get to the hospital. Sorry, guys but I got to bail.” He told them.

“Don’t be sorry man. Family first always. Tell her our prayers are with her ok?” Jon told him.

“Thanks man, I shall. Bye.” James broke for the exit. Overhearing the exchange, Andy walked over, a huge grin on his face.

“So I take it this means you two forfeit to me huh? Such a shame. I was looking forward to getting back at you Jon.” he taunted them.

“We aren’t out yet, so shut your trap.” Jon retorted.

“But with only two players, you don’t have a team. You need three players to qualify. And the rules clearly state that a person may only be one on team at a time.” He smirked and glanced around the room. “My gosh, I don’t see anyone who hasn’t been on a team today! So sorry guys. Better luck next week eh?” He walked off, grinning to himself. The two boys were furious. He was right of course. All the guys here had played in the tourney already. The only other people in the store were a few middle aged parents looking at games they were going to give as gifts.

“You know, I knew the kid was a bad character. I didn’t realize it was ‘cause he was blind.” Savan had been standing behind them for the entire conversation.

“What are you talking about? The only other person here is you, and you aren’t eligible to play.” Jim replied. Jon meanwhile had followed Savan’s gaze. She had been there the entire time, looking at a display of pewter gaming dice.

“Pinky, are you thinking what I’m thinking?” Savan asked.

“I think so Brain. But what are the odds of Kai Budde walking in right now?” asked Jim. Jon and Savan both smacked him at the same time.

“Do you really think she will?” he asked the air.

“Definitely man. And don’t worry, I can’t tell her what to do in game, but I can tell her how not to play.” Savan offered.

“Then let me go ask.” Jon walked over to where Stef was standing.

    “Hey.” he began.

    “What’s up?” she asked.

“How would you feel about joining us for the final match?” he asked her. Stef stared at him for a few minutes, trying to figure out if he was joking or not.

“You’re serious aren’t you?” she asked

“Yeah I am. James had a family emergency he had to run out for. You are the only one who can take his place according to the rules.”

“Do you really think I can?” she asked.

“I have absolute confidence in you. You’ve seen me and Jim play enough to understand how the game works, and Savan promised to be as lenient as possible with you.”

    “Are you sure about this?”

“Yes I am. You can do no wrong. Trust me on that.”

“Ok then I will.” He smiled and gave her a quick hug. “Come on. Jim always carries a few spare decks, so he should be able to lend you one.”

He did of course, a white green combo deck. It was a good fit, meant to simply overwhelm its opponent with big creatures. It was a perfect deck for a beginning player. It had a few bonus tricks to it, but they weren’t key to playing it. Andy scowled at seeing Stef getting set up. He knew he was well balanced against Jon, and he was confident in the abilities of his bleeders. Stef had no experience actually playing, and so she would be an easy win. But having won by forfeit would have meant not having to worry about it at all. As soon as the six players had taken their seats, Savan announced the beginning of the games. A large crowd gathered around the table. Many of the older players knew of the history between Jon and Andy, and seeing the two of them going at it for a rematch was going to provide fuel for many online threads for the next few weeks, as their moves and plays would be endlessly debated. On top of that, there was an actual girl playing in this match. That would generate almost as many posts, though few would be believed.

The matches began and the tension in the room became thick enough to cut, though anyone attempting this would have required a chainsaw. The first to finish was Jim and his opponent. Both players managed to eek out a win, with the second game ending with Jim self destructing on pestilence. The resulting draw caused quite a stir.

Many of the onlookers were focused on the main event between Andy and Jon. Both players were going at it full bore, counter spells and bounce spells preventing either from getting a decent creature base. Neither got his Megrims into play, causing a major setback for both boys. In the end, God proved triumphant. The third game ended for Jon, leaving him two victories over Andy’s one. This was greeted by a cheer loud enough to draw attention from mall security. The score now stood at 2 wins and a draw for Andy’s team, and three wins and a draw for Jon’s. The fate of the match was riding on the outcome of Stef’s set.

The first game had gone well for her. Her opponent was playing a fast red deck, and he had hit a land clump early in the match. This had given her time to summon her big creatures and attack. By the time he had begun summoning a defense, it was too late. The second match had gone quite the opposite way. Everything she played got killed, and a swarm of small creatures quickly overwhelmed her. She lost with out ever drawing blood. The last match was heading the same way. She had seven lands and a few elves, so there were no worries about mana. She had lost half her life, though, and any creature she played fell victim to a burn kill. Her opponent had only lost one life. He had managed to summon a few early walls, enough to hold back her elves. He had yet to summon any creatures to attack with, the few goblins under his command being no match for her elves.

She had one card in her hand, a Yavimaya how-the -heck-did-you-pronounce-this? It was fairly big, and gave back life for damage, but she knew it would die quickly. She sighed, and drew her card for the turn. It turned out to be Armadillo Cloak, a rather useful enchantment that Jim had explained to her. She wondered about something, and decided to act on it. Tapping all her lands, she put both into play. Her opponent scowled, not having anything to kill it. He played through his next turn, adding another goblin to his army, bringing the total to three.

The next few turns passed very similar, but with one exception. Stef now attacked each time, dealing damage at first only to creatures. Soon the enemy army crumbled, there being nothing capable of stopping the monster she had played. The game ended eight turns later, Stef many points ahead of her opponent. It was the final blow, giving her team the five wins necessary to claim victory. Andy stood ashen face, and his teammates stood up as well. The three walked out in silence, with the exception of Andy turning back and yelling an oath to never return to the Pit. This was met with much cheering.

As the crowd filtered out, the three victors stayed behind to help clean up. The tables and chairs were folded back up and returned to the stock room from which they had come. After this minor chore was taken care of. The four sat near the counter. Savan checked the list he had, and began to count out the boosters meant as prizes. A few customers wandered around the store, checking out the various sale offerings. Savan rang up one woman, who had found a specialty monopoly set she had been looking for. As she walked off with her purchase, he placed two piles before Jim and Jon.

“Here you guys go. Twenty each. Hope you guys get something good out of them.” the boys began to unwrap the cards. Those they either didn’t want or already had enough of they left in a pile. These would be given back to Savan to sell as singles, in exchange for rebates on more expensive stuff. They each set aside five packs to give to James later.

“As for you, I believe that store credit is something you don’t have much use for?” he asked Stef. She smiled and nodded her head.

“No offense, but I think I’ll leave the games to these two.”

“I thought as much. In that case, as a prize for winning, I offer you this.”

Reaching up to a top shelf, he removed a crystal sculpture of a dragon rising from the mists. It stood nearly a foot tall, and the flared wings were nearly the same length as the height. Even in the dim lighting of the store it sparkled, casting speckles of rainbow about the area near it. There was a thin layer of dust on the mahogany base, and Savan gently
    brushed it away.

“I can’t take this! It has to be worth way more then the packs they won!” Stef protested.

“Don’t worry about the cost. I have more then enough money to see me and my family through well past the end of my days. This has been sitting up there gathering dust for almost a year now. It deserves better glory then the top shelf in some dingy game shop. All I ask is that you put it somewhere where it can feel the sun.” Savan told her.

“But why this?” she asked, still a bit taken aback by the stunning gift.

“Because today you not only became a friend of mine, but you did me a massive favor. Your victory has driven a person I didn’t want around from my store away for good.. In honor of that gift, I offer you this one.” Savan explained. Reaching under the counter, he grabbed a box and began to pack the statue.

“Well, wow. Thanks.” It was all Stef could manage.

“Come on guys let’s go get some real food. See you next weekend Savan!” Jim cried. The three teens walked out of the store, heading for the mall’s food court.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After a quick meal dragged out by a long conversation, they all headed out. Jim headed for home, while the other two headed for Stef’s house. Jon found a place on the curb for his car, while Stef parked hers in the garage. Jon jogged up behind, and as they started walking towards the door, he felt something small, wet, and cool bump into him from behind. Turning around, he saw Kentai staring up at him. Holding his hand out straight, he snapped his fingers above the bear’s head. Kentai stood up immediately, and held there for a few moments before dropping back onto his front paws. Jon just smiled.

“Good boy,” he said, “you’re getting better at that.” He began to scratch the bear behind the ears, and a small growl of pleasure rolled from Kentai’s throat. Stef stood there, smiling at her two boys. Holding the door open, she beckoned to them both.

“Come on guys, let’s go.” Kentai eagerly dashed past her into the basement, quickly finding a spot to lounge in. Jon walked past and gave her a questioning look.

“Is it alright for him to be inside?” he asked.

“Don’t worry about it. My parents went to visit my uncle, and they rarely come down here anyway. So as long as he stays quite, which he usually does, I let him sleep inside.”

“Ok, as long as you aren’t going to get in any trouble over this.”

    “Don’t worry about it!”

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In truth, Stef’s parents did know about Kentai, at least to the point that there was a bear living in their backyard. Being fairly liberal about this sort of thing, they didn’t mind, seeing as the bear didn’t dig through their garbage or anything like that. (Kentai didn’t need to, Stef made sure he had plenty to eat.) They were a mite concerned that it seemed to stick close to their house, but except for the occasional glance, they hadn’t really seen him. If they had known their daughter was letting the bear into their house, a call would quickly have gone to animal control.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stef’s parents had nothing against parties, but they also saw no reason why they should remain awake because of them. Thus setting up the basement to handle kids had seemed like a good idea. The floors had been carpeted, and an air hockey table stood in one corner, across from a small minibar. The bar itself was unstocked, only to be used during barbecues, or some other event when her parents were entertaining company. A small TV had been set up with a VCR and DVD player, making for decent home entertainment system. It wasn’t large, but there was enough room to dance if people wanted to. A few chairs and a couch had been placed opposite the TV. It was in front of the couch that Kentai had sprawled, leaving just enough room for the two humans to climb on. They did so, Jon lying back against the arm of the couch, with Stef lying back against him. The DVD started, and soon the antics of Jason Lee in a shopping mall began to provide them with laughs.

As the movie ran, Jon slowly began to run his hand over Stef’s body. She snuggled closer to him, purring slightly. Taking this as the invitation it was intended as, he let his hand wander even more. Reaching her breast, he gave it a gentle squeeze, before palming the quickly hardening nipple. Receiving all the right cues, Stef’s body became more and more aroused. Flipping over, she pressed her chest against his, and gently began rubbing up and down. She could feel him growing hard, as his member slowly grew against her stomach. He lazily placed a kiss against her eager lips.

“I’m glad I can get you so excited. But tonight is a special night. Savan gave a gift in thanks. Now it’s time for me to give a gift of my own.”

Flipping them over so that she was now on the bottom, he began to run kisses down her body. He started at the top of her forehead, and gently ran down her nose, he paused ever so briefly at her lips, pulling away when he felt her tongue coming for his. He worked his way down her neck, gently sucking on her skin with each kiss. All this teasing was driving Stef crazy, but when she tried to act he gently restrained her. Catching her eye, he simply shook his head no. She realized she was trapped, but she wouldn’t have traded places with anyone in the world at that moment.

Kentai looked up at the two humans. Rolling his eyes, he got up and turned around. The smaller humans were much more entertaining...
