I did a small research on whats in (FSC) and cant find anything but i feel so much worse now smoking them i've tried to quit but 1. i cant stop and 2. i get really sick and i get the shakes.

Can someone find more information on this topic. Here are some other people with the same problems that i have when smoking (FSC) you may feel the same way.

I can't stand the FSC cigarettes. Since smoking them,my throat feels scratchy all the time. I think they have put a harmful chemical in them and won't tell us. Hell, they just went ahead and changed them without telling us. Fed up with everyone!!!!

I agree. The FSC cigarettes are clearly affecting me. I have heard anctedotal stories of them causing bronchitis, scratchy throat, coughs and other respitory issues. I asked tobacoonists and several store clerks and managers and they tell me I'm in the majority of customers who have asked or commented on them. I really would like to see a study done. At the very least, I would like to know what changes in the ingredients were made to produce rhese cigarettes.

I also find it interesting that in the myth vs realities section on this website cites toxicity studies comparong FSC and non FSC cigarettes but no studies of actual smokers.
Oh well. There isn't a better time to give them up.

i just looked this up because my throats really been bothering me since i started these. not sure if it's in my head or not. i suppose smoking extra paper could have some effect. but they seem to have a slightly different smell also. the whole thing bothers me a little. i know cigarettes are bad anyway but.. i might start rolling my own now to ease my mind.

These "fire safe" cigarettes that are out have been doing a number on me. For some reason when I try to quit smoking them, I get deathly sick. It's happen two times now and I've had to been rushed to the hospital both times. The tests come back inconclusive. There is something seriously wrong with this. I know it's the cigarettes because I can be running a really high fever and shivering at the same time and have really bad withdrawl symtpons then once I smoke a cigarette, I'm fine again my fever goes down and I just feel normal again. This is total bull if you ask me, saying all it is to put them out is paper. Have you tried to relight the cigarette after it goes out? It flames big time when you try and ambers go everywhere! I'm tried of being sick from trying to quit. This is a outrage! Is there anyone out there that is having the same problems as me?

Posted by: Juggernaut | December 10, 2007 at 10:21 PM

I noticed an immediate change in my health once I started smoking the FSC (Fire Safe Cigarettes). I have had serious sinus problems since the advent of these things in the State of New Hampshire. Constant cough, chest pains, and just tonight my wife, who is a non smoker, told me that she needed to crack the door because her chest felt tight...yet another problem I have had with FSC. She doesn't smoke, but she obviously has been getting my second hand smoke in the car, etc.
Also, I work directly with around 20 other smokers every day. ALL of them have had some complaint about their sinuses, chest tightening, throat being scratchy, etc. This is a HUGE problem! Someone needs to stop the government, or tobacco companies before we all end up in the emergency room. Jesus, the non smokers want to know why healthcare costs are going up.....here's your answer. If I end up in the hospital 20 times in the next year because of this, I'm sure they'll somehow find a way to blame us for the backwards way this country/state does things. That's right, take away all our rights, then they'll have to pick on the drinkers, then people who go to church, then whatever else is left. Welcome to 2008 people, this is the begining of the wake up call. You'll get it sooner or later!

Illinois is the same way i went to buy a carton like i always do not sure of the change. Of coarse why tell us we don't matter anyway right. My throat was sore my stomach was upset could not figure out what was going on until i google cigarette wont stay lit came up with others with same thing Ok first smoking ban fine now you mess with the taste almost making me want to quit something i enjoy this a joke people we just opened up a big can a worms government control next the booze the end of big gas eating cars. It wont end now you will see are right of chose will start fading away. We must be heard people spread the word about fsc there is something funny about these cigs its not in are heads safe is good but lets tests whats making people sick instead of sneaking them on the self. I did fine some old cigs to see if was just me no big difference in taste and after a day of no smoking the fsc i was over the sore throat and stomach was feeling better. Just tell friends that smoke about this because they might not beware of it take care all.

FSC reach the band and then the ashes fall off the cig and land on my rug, etc. Noticed one big ash was still red. Keeping thinking these FSC cigs are going to start a fire because the ashes fall off.
My throat also seemed to swell, thought it was something I ate and was having a reaction. Not sure. Also, have to drag/puff harder on the cig to keep it burning.
Yes, smoking is bad, hazardous to our health, etc. and expensive. Nothing like burning up our money.

Posted by: smoker | January 11, 2008 at 02:25 AM

i live in a house with 5 people who all smoke! ever since we started smoking the (fsc) cigarettes we have all had different symptoms! burning in our throut, stomach ache, headache! and more! we have to go across state lines to buy no (fsc) there is a chemical in the new cigarettes that are 10 times more likely to kill you faster! whatever is in them we need to no! oviously our health is not a concern to the tobaco companys! smoking is bad for your health either way! but now we are smoking a cigarette that we have no idea about whats really in side!!!! we need answers!!! chicago il

Posted by: michelle sulenski | January 11, 2008 at 07:12 PM

they keep up with this chemical we are all going to just quit! and then they wont have to give us any answers! cuz as soon as the rest of the normal cigarettes run out and we cant find tem, we are all done! we have rights to know the new chemical! newport, and the tobaco company better get on it and let us know!

    Posted by: michelle s | January 11, 2008 at 07:17 PM

to me the government is experimenting again and we dont know nothing about it! And did we ask for it?
Come on, what are u guys proving?....First the damn law, now the new 'Whatever tobacoo?'' ..My symptoms are sharp stabbing pains in my stomach and my stomach is going around the world and also it does not taste the same. You guys are changing the laws and the fact of tobacco.Where does the line draw?...I had one person say to me and fellow workers, I have more rights than u now...'lol', he was laughing at us cause we dont 'spit' but we chose to smoke. I have changed many trash at work and almost put my hand in 'spit'!..and or step in 'spit'!...why have no one said anything about spitting before smoking?
well, they say, do chew tobacco, lol'...how far has that gone?..not much!
Do u know how much kids actually relate to 'spit'?
Posted by: diane | January 11, 2008 at 09:31 PM

Since I have been smoking the new FSC cigarettes my throat hurts and my chest. I can't stand the smell of them. How can they change something without making the public aware of what is in them. I am a nurse and can tell you that what ever is in them is horrible because I can't stand the smell or the taste of them and I have been smoking for 17 years. This is ridiculous. My stomach gets nauseated every time I smell a cigarette!! I guess this is a wake up call that we have NO rights!!!

I cannot believe it, those friggin liberals in the House and Senate have nothing better to do all day but find a way to make FSC cigartettes,,,,,,,,isn't it enough, they us smokers have to pay a SIN tax of about $3.00 at least of tax........what ever happened to the choice?....I am a 47 year old woman who smokes, that is my right................i do not bother anyone and I am very polite smoker,,,,,,,,,,,,,but our country is being taken over by those hippy liberals who have nothing else to do but pass stupid laws, not laws that shouold be passed...........What ever happened to the land of the free????????....we had choices,,,,,,,,now, the goverment mandates smoking again, again, again, but the drug dealers and the pimps, and the child molestors and murdering husbands of pregnant moms can't even get arrested,in this country (Great use to be) get away with anything they want, somehow, they find laws to protect losers like those..........Well Washington, we better kick ass and get those mindless dopes also know as, Liberls out of power, before we lose any more rights for the upstanding and law abiding, and tax paying folks.

E-mail the people that are pushing the FSC laws. Tell them what you think. Tell them your story. Maybe even sue them for effecting your health. Granted ciggs are bad but why make them worse?

Posted by: Russell | January 28, 2008 at 01:21 AM

Join the smoker's coalition to stop FSC ciggarettes from making bad worse!
    We smoke, We decide!
I think if you are worried about catching your house on fire you should take action!
Call the tobacco company and tell them you want to buy the FSC ciggs!
But if your not worried you should be able to buy the regular stuff!
    America stands for freedom!
The freedom to choose what job you have or your religion!
The freedom to stand up and say no!

The ashes fall off and start fires! What can the common person do when the government becomes this intrusive into our personal lives???

Posted by: Bob Smoker | January 31, 2008 at 10:40 AM

I also have been greatly affected by these FSC cigarettes. Illinois just surprised us with this in January. I have not been sick in years and now I have been off work for 2 weeks out of the last month and also to the ER and several doctor visits. I know it's these cigarettes, I know it. Why do NON-smokers make decisions that they have no experience in? I have had health insurance for years and NEVER used it, Now since these cigarettes, I'm going through insurance money like crazy.

Posted by: Dave | February 02, 2008 at 02:34 AM

Add me to the list of negatively affected FSC smokers . Ever since they switched to the new formula, my sinuses have been a mess and for the first time in my life, I have a smokers cough.
Does anyone know if the FSC cigarettes are being sold overseas?

    Posted by: Coughing2 | February 08, 2008 at 12:40 AM

Since I started smoking "fsc" cigarettes I've noticed muscular aches to my calf muscles and outer knees and I can taste the diference in my mouth. I think it's time to quit.

Posted by: sylvia | February 12, 2008 at 01:50 PM

The FSC smokes are not being sold overseas. A friend of mine gets his from there. Indian reservations are not fsc at this point either. All big tobacco companies are going to be fsc by 2009 and lorillard is already doing it across the board. I myself can not smoke these damn things. I get sick as a dog. I also think just a change in the paper is bull. I will keep smoking till everything is fsc then I will probably roll my own. I feel like I am being forced to quit and that is not right!

How interesting that the FDA isn't interested in what is put into them, neither is anyone else in govt.

CONSPIRACY? I would bet my ass that these cigarettes cause cancer more rapidly and more severely than the regular cigarettes.

They are obviously a HEALTH HAZARD, the Center for Contagious Diseases might even be convined to do something but it is going to take a massive
amount of complaints and noise by the people to get anything done.

One thing is that EVERYONE suffering these should write their socalled representatives, maybe the sheer volume will overwhelm them.

on the other hand this chemical they use is not being stated like the consumer product laws REQUIRE. Where is the legal action? Where are the class action suits?

I know they take time, but these abominations are obviously detrimental to health.
Complaining on here unfortunately wont get any action, but if groups are started online, smokers forums, etc. maybe something can happen.

I don't smoke and never have but this type of stuff by the tobacco companies is CRIMINAL, and I don't think any smoker should be subjected to this kind of maltreatment..

Phillip Morris sold their stock in Kraft foods recently, and changed their company name. Now, they have produced a more toxic cigarette to either kill you quicker, or keep you smoking.

Just remember that during America's unofficial recession, nearly every financial institution is hurting. This is another reason to (if necessary) smoke organic / natural / self rolled cigarettes instead of relying on a corporate faction to decide your fate.

This sounds sick, in more ways than one! I wouldn't smoke them.
I like Ellen's post, many of us feel the same way.
I roll my own, and while my "Drum" tobacco has long term harmful affects on me, certain chemicals just aren't in them.

I have drastically reduced my intake, I will quit, likely, in the right time and place.

I will not be dictated to by idiots that use fear mongering and science illliterates to deliver their message however.
Too many gullible twats unquestionably follow the government's `studies'. Hah! Half truthe and out and out lies.

No there not but im afraid of this fire safe chemical there putting in them. when your smoking and put your cig down to go make coffee downstairs. Then come back up to your room. The cig is completely out and you have to relight it. It has to be a chemical that oxygen makes it go out and not hold its ember.

Another thought: What are the odds they also have something in them that makes them even more addictive too?

I am firmly convinced that coke and pepsi have some kind of addictive additive. Reason: If I leave them alone for a week or two I don't care if I never have one. But If I have been drinking them a time or two a day, I keep wanting to have one. And it is not only coke and pepsi!.

No doubt about that but then on the other hand since life is 100% fatal I don't see anything wrong with allowing people to pick their own poison. Besides any casual visit to a nursing home should be enough to demonstrate to anyone that perhaps we place too much value on the diaper years of adulthood. I've seen what the 80's, 90's and even 100 look like and don't plan on going there.

But yes I do find some reason for concern here. One, because I can just about tell you the time cigarette manufactures changed their tobacco formulas in cigarettes, using stems instead of just leaves because they were actually more addictive. I could taste it in the cigarettes, especially unfiltered Camel Cigarettes which was in my opinion the classic American cigarette.

I think there is room for concern about the chemical makeup of these new FSC's.

And try to look at this logically for a minute. If you think smoking tobacco is bad for your health and full of toxins try smoking just paper. That would really kill someone in short order.

Seriously i don't understand why the govt has to be so secret with us. Why can't they just tell us shit rather than keeping them secret. Like Area 51 ( what is it really), (JFK murder), (FSC)..etc

I don't understand why they don't like us citizens lying to them but they have a right to lie to us about shit. I hope i don't sound ignorant.

That's an easy one Lannie. Coke and Pepsi have high caffeine content and caffeine is physically addictive and also has specific withdrawal symptoms with headache being the most common of them.

Not to mention if its diet pop your slugging down its got that sweet and low substitute in it which causes cancer and makes you addicted. I would know from drinking a 24pack of diet Pepsi or Coke a day when in construction in the hot sun.

If they're fire-safe, how do you light them ?

Just seems like a contradiction in terms. Very double-speak if you ask me. Corporate America does with us whatever they want to anyway, noone's surprised by that I hope.
