I was aware that there were IRA fundraisers in this country. What I do not know, is whether the US govt did anything financially to aid either side.

Jim, sorry mate but I'm a proddy dog from the 'pool and I had a ball at St Pats in NY. I am sure that a handfull of people there supported the IRA but the vast majority were just ordinary good people celebrating Irish roots and getting pissed. BTW most of them don't even have Irish roots I spent the afternoon getting pissed with some polish policemen. But hell, everyone is Irish on St Pats.

 

MM - I don't doubt that you had a good time in NY nor that the majority of Americans would (were the facts spelt out to them) condemn terrorist fundraising.

However, it is exactly the casual "...everyone's Irish..." attitude (exacebated by the knowledge that "...most of them don't even have Irish roots...") that so exercises me.

Nobody stood up after 11th September, 2001 and made the point that I have exactly because of the attitudes so eloquently demonstrated by Rock Princess.

Well I've did a lot of thought about what you have said here and I am concerned about a lot of things this country has done . I've read articles about some of our undermining bullshit to other countries even watched a document about 9/11 that showed it could have been an inside job No cameras around the pentagon caught a picture of that large jet crashing into that building. That kind of stuff bothers me. I do love this good old USA. but our leaders have lied to us went to war under false information . Never even had a plan how they were gonna exit . We got some brave young men there, trying to bring stability to the region but it's a waste of there time and there precious blood. The Iraqis have got to step up and take charge which they are not doing What goes around does sometime come around. That bothers me . God Bless America and may he give our leaders wisdom

LJ, no doubt some murkins supported the IRA so did some yerpeens. But don't condem a nation. The USA was a victim of 911 they don't need to be told that they supported the IRA so deserved it. On mass they did not. US president after president tried to intervene in the Irish problem. It took John Major and later Tony Blair to negotiaite directly with the parties to bring a solution into sight. Look, I'm English but if Birkenhead was invaded by the black and tans and internment was introduced, I might become a tourist.
