  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

    Memorial Day

I can't honestly say when the last Memorial Day weekend passed with me not drinking. Maybe 1979, when I was just a boy wondering why my uncle's were fighting at dad's bar-b-que. I don't have a tan, stayed in and watched bad movies (Taken was actually pretty good, just a bit over the top.), but did not take a single drink. I also didn't answer my phone most of the times it rang, but I would rather have idle hands without temptation, than to have idle hands with temptation.

I wont say how long I have gone without a drink. I will say I still want one, and refuse to give in. I don't want a keychain, I want a life. I hope that isn't taken in an offensive way to those that have chosen AA, I just need as much of a normal life as I can get, and just don't see looking backwards as a way for me to go forwards. If I fail, and I pray that doesn't happen, I may change my thoughts, but for now, I am content in a much-too-paranoid-of-me kind of way.

Once again, God bless all of you that have sent me well wishes and advice, and God bless all of you that have made light of my situation. I am, no matter what, a huge fan of Monty Python, so taking things too seriously has never been a big problem in my life!!

If I might input my 2 cents worth on the subject (I am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor) The first step is to admit you have a problem AA and other programs similar to AA work wonders if you actually work the program. By that I mean you have to work it 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Remember it's people places and things that allow us to drink. If you try to quit then go to the same people the same places and do the same things you will relapse. But take it one day at a time, if that's too hard try 1 hour 1 minute at a time. 1 drink is too many and a thousand is not enough.

Hey good post. Have you found any sort of social ques or specific things that make you pursue drinking? Is it stress, the environment, I'm just trying to think of what triggers you have. If you can find what actually triggers you to drink then you can analyze the problem a lot better in order to find a solution.

    AA is painless

I did not think that AA would help me, but I have a 90 day keychain now, and a new outlook on life. I don't think I am quite ready for the bar scene just yet, give me 10 or 15 years and then maybe....;) But I can honestly say that there is much strength to be gained from a group of strangers that have walked in my shoes. Never give up on what you can be, it could change the world.

My grandfather drank heavy for his entire life until joining AA, was sober three years before he passed away. I on the other hand was shooting beers and doing shots with my son tailgating all day yesterday. Difference is, I may not have another drink before the next time there is a social event. There is such thing as moderation for some, for those with no will power, AA and sticking to the program is their best hope. Maybe you should solicit your friends help/support as opposed to trying to keep your problem hidden from them. Addiction is a bitch, good luck.
