Okay, now think of those countries that spend less than us. How is their technology versus ours?

Now how many of those countries that you state, is military service not optional? How much are their wages, versus the wages of the US military members?

Afghanistan, no one has ever won in Afghanistan. Countries have been broken because of their fights in Afghanistan. Plus, the enemy keeps running away, and then come back with more troops.

Iraq, the enemy is fighting with guerilla tactics, while the coalition forces have to follow the Geneva Convention and the Hague Convention rules. But the enemy do not follow those rules. Plus the enemy is using IEDs against the coalition forces, and that is where your highest deaths are coming from.

 

However you figure it, the huge U.S. military budget is a heavy drag on the U.S. economy that is not sustainable.

 

You seem to admit that the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq were mistakes. We invaded Afghanistan to capture Osama bin Laden, but we still do not have him. We invaded Iraq to end Saddam's nuclear bomb program, but it did not exist.

At most we should have invaded both countries, destroyed the Taliban and Saddam dictatorships, and helped the inhabitants of both countries write constitutions and hold elections. Then we should have boogied on out. If the people of either or both countries erupted in civil wars, that's their problem. Anyway, they don't seem to appreciate our presence.

 

Britain did a pretty good fucking job in Basra, before we ever "surged."

I am telling you destroying the Taliban is much harder than you think. When Afghanistan is open for tourism again, go and see for yourself. And you will comprehend why the Soldiers are having such a hard time fighting against them. You just have to see the news report on the cave they found, which shows the network of living conditions the Taliban leave in.

And the Saddam dictatorship was brought down on its knees, the only problem is the insurgency will not stop attacking, some still loyal troops of Saddam, and many from Al-Qaeda. I think they appreciate our presence, they just do not appreciate us being there for so long. Yet, when insurgency rises, they want us to stay and police the area.

The trouble with these wars is that once they get started most Americans would rather keep fighting than lose. Whether or not they should have started in the first place seems to be off the table of discussion. The Republicans in the Senate have successfully sent the Health Care Reform package back to the House of Representatives. You know what could be really funny about that? If the democrats have 50 senators willing to vote for the public option they can stick the public option back in the reforms and push it through the Senate.

The way I look at it is, this is perfect conservative tax: You are being taxed for public health insurance. If you don't like the government plan, you have the option of seeking similar services in the private sector; without discarding your personal responsibilities to the collective good.
