  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    StanleyOG.

He is a justice of the peace, not a priest, he must sign licenses that the state says can be signed, and come on when the governor is calling for your letter of resignation, you know you fucked up.

his opinion is OK with me

I think it's interesting to note that he explicitly says he didn't tell them they couldn't get married, only that he felt unable to do it with a clear conscience. Not only that, but they were directed to another judge who would.

This is hardly the action of a racist man.

Right on they weren't the first couple he sent down the road to another Justice. What his opinion is what you dint like ? We spend to much time trying to appease people who are trying to push their way of life on others if you want to marry a different race its your choice and his if he doesn't want to so move on to another Justice no big deal .Roadtoad:)

What I think you fail to grasp, is that it is his job. It is his job to dole out marriage licenses to those wanting to get married unless there is a legal reason that the marriage cannot take place. Those legal reasons include things like not yet being above the age of legal consent, or perhaps being married already. Being an interracial couple does not qualify as a legal reason for being unable to marry.

Ah yes ... pushing their way of life on others ... that's just what the JoP is guilty of. As well as being a racist.

I'm gonna go with the....the guy is a racist.

And quite honestly, I'm not sure I understand why people think it's more likely for interracial couples to divorce. Like all the couples in my family are interracial, family friends that are couples are mostly interracial. Most of my friends parents have married and divorced a few times and only in their race.

I don't think it has anything to do with what race someone is just the people aren't right for each other.

And that is where your wrong. The state salute says only that he may perform marriages not that he is required to do so.

I'll add again that the clerk of court in the court house issues the liscense.

I believe you misread what feared flame said, redeyed.

This couple was refused a license to marry by the JoP.

But Piggit my point is that he can't issue the liscense.
    He can only sign them.
Ethicly/morally the jop is wrong, but for now at least, leagally he can say no to whom ever he chooses.

The justices in louisianna are not required to marry people. Our governor spoke before he knew the facts.

That's a very good point. It comes down to how the law is written. If the law doesn't require him to sign the license, then I agree with you. Congratulations, you actually managed to change the mind of someone on an internet forum. That might be the first time in history that that's happened (We're all a bunch of stubborn bastards on the internet).

I still say he's a racist, and I still say it might be acceptable to fire him over this, but it wouldn't be because he's not performing his job. At worst, he's not performing his job well.

I agree, if his reason was race, he should get fired.

I don't think you can really state that children of mixed parentage are more likely to get fucked over by society. It happens all the time to children of any parentage.

One more OMG look what these rednecks down south are doing, racism is rampant.

Get a life everyone, one JP who refuses to grant a license or perform a marriage is hardly a majority.

As for his motives, he is an elected official, his constituents can deal with it they way they choose.

This latest press article explains it a bit better:

My thoughts are still that the man is wrong for his actions. And that he made up some bullshit excuse for his actions.

I'm curious though, If he is a racist then wouldn't he hate/despise (ie not marry) all races other than his?

    Let the people speak

We elect those that speak for us. No matter if you live in LA, NY City, or Ottawa, KS. When those we elect no longer speak for us, it is our duty to those that paved the roads on which we now travel, to stand up and let our voices be heard. When we blame the judges, we waver until we choose. We have to be willing to either support, or be willing to cry out against, them. This forum works only if it goes beyond what we see here. The government should not be in a position to decide whether people should able to marry one another, based on gender, race, religion, or sexual preference, unless an absolute majority of the population says so, and if you want the government to make those choices for you, let your cry end here.

My thought is that this particular JoP won't be denying marriage licenses for a hell of a lot longer.

"Entitled as a public official"? First I am a private citizen and I am free to "discriminate" on what ever grounds I desire, that is my right just as the couple has the right to go elsewhere. I am not employed by the state to preform the ceremony, in fact there is no fee on my part at all and since I have the right to refuse to marry any couple I am not required to give a reason, nor is it anyone else's business. I would not do this but if I refused to marry a couple because I didn't like their skin color, the cut of their clothes, their mental abilities or their family history I can do it, I can be racist in my selection because I am employed by no one therefor I choose who to serve.

Again, I would not refuse to marry a couple for the color of their skin.

If you watch the video of his interview, you will see that he "recused himself" from performing the marriage ceremony because neither blacks nor whites accept children of interracial marriages. (Tho where he got the idea these two intended to have children, is a mystery.) "Would there be any other reason you'd refuse to perform a marriage." Paraphrasing here, but No. Well, let me take that back. If one of them was intoxicated or on drugs but if they came back, I'd marry them.

I believe that is, by definition, racism.
