You can't take things out of context. I understand my examples are somewhat extreme, but they are no less valid. If this is a normal office job, then I completely agree, there is no reason a smoker shouldn't be employed, but setting up a law to protect their rights further then they already are is absurd, and would cause an explosion of litigation from smokers, or overweight people in the matter at hand, who find circumstances not outlined by law that are "illegal", but entirely reasonable.

I know perfectly well why people give me shit on this site, and considering where it's coming from all it is is amusing.

 

Just gotta say, as a girl with some extra pounds myself (that I'm happily shedding like crazy) this is all crap. Being overweight is being unhealthy, being unhealthy is usually a personal choice (except for the cases of it being from medical reasons, which are sometimes caused from being unhealthy in the first place). Lack of willpower to change is an instability. While I think that attacking others simply because they don't like the way someone looks is abhorrent, making this a legal matter is just all kinds of messed up.

 

What are your views on those who are overweight from medical reasons such as disabilty at birth?

 

I think this law might be in place to protect the chunkier people from Fat taxes and such, which IMO are just not fair. My mom is slightly over weight, she's very sensitive about it but in no way is she so obese that it's a problem to anyone...

She has the cleanest diet I have ever seen in a person, exercises regularly, and is overweight simply because of genetics. It happens.

Fast food companies should be taxed. Make the food more expensive so it isn't as attractive.

 

No, they shouldn't be. They should not be allowed to ever make fast food out to be anything but exactly what it is.. good tasting shit that's bad for you(I'm talking about you McDonalds), but they should not be taxed. People who want a shit burger that tastes good for cheap should not have to pay more just because people don't know not to eat it except once in awhile.

The government needs to stop stepping in just because people can't control themselves or make good choices.

 

Yeah, but if it is interfering with the health and the livelihood of it's citizens the government has every right to do whatever they want.

Make fast food slightly more expensive and make cheaper healthier options. Or, make fastfood companies make mandatory healthy foods take up at least 20% of their menu at reasonable prices. Something needs to be done.

If you want healthy, go to Subway. I don't want my Triple Whopper with a milkshake being taken off the market or made more expensive just because you can't make the intelligent choice of eating healthier. This whole "healthy food is more expensive" stuff is bullshit. It is not at all difficult to make healthy choices.
