I have had many things going through my head today, so I figured I would post a few thoughts to hopefully prevent a sleepless night of excessive thought. I am also interested in the opinions of others on the subjects of the existence of God and finding meaning in life.

Recently, I seriously considered abandoning my agnostic standing for pure atheism after failing to find a religious group that makes sense, but after considering the perspective of an atheist, I realized that it is truly an undesirable reality. Atheism is at first the admission that life has no real value, and it proceeds to build a delusion of self value by ignoring the blatant worthlessness of all perceived accomplishments. Even if the atheist is right that there is no God, one is likely better off believing the more elegant lies of religion.

It seems that the great majority of atheists and theists alike hastily choose one extreme or the other merely so that they can continue on with their lives without having to worry about uncertainty. Both sides appeal to lies for hope and a false sense of security.

To me, the existence of God means much more than an eternity of happiness, and by God I don't mean just any superior being, but a perfect infinite being with ultimate authority over all. The existence of such a being would imply the dominance of order over chaos, and having faith in such a being would mean that one could derive hope from the existence of righteousness.

Without God, existence is nothing but a struggle between order and chaos with chaos inevitably consuming. One thus spends life constantly fighting a hopeless battle with the greedy for the next fleeting fix of happiness, all to maintain the delusion that life is worth living. In my opinion, only fools can be happy in such conditions because they unquestioningly buy into the lies.

Now that I have shared my thoughts for the day, I was hoping that perhaps we could have a continued discussion of various out-looks on life. I would appreciate it if the annoying one-sided metaphors and fictional dialogues were left out.

wow you sure did have some deep thoughts for the day. my current outlook is very confusing. it seems like i want to believe that there is a greater being out there that is in complete control. But i still cant convince myself that there is such a thing. i hope that one day there will be this moment that clicks with me and i experience or see that maybe there is a glimmer of hope and a greater being. im not sure if that helped at all but it seems that if people dont believe they are waiting for something to show them a sign.

I was raised hard core JESUS! I mean to the point of having JESUS beat into me.
I spent my entire childhood being abused in the name of JESUS!
They told me if I sinned even once,I was damned to Hell forever! I believed them and set out to live a perfect life without Sin.
I soon turned schizophrenic from my constant Prayers for forgiveness,even if I forgot to use my turn signal.
I was not a well Boy.

I went the other direction completely.I rebelled and became the sort of person people feared! I paid them all back for what they had created! I drank,excessively,Did all manor of Drugs and lived the life of a Gangster,taking whatever I wanted when I wanted it.
I ended up almost killing myself!
When I hit bottom(Again) ,I really did not want to do the God thing like most of the people in recovery were doing.I needed something I really felt was real.

So I spend many months sitting on a beach on the Island of Maui,just thinking about the whole God thing.It was and still is a clothing optional beach,so I did spend some time watching naked Girls play volley ball.
But I did think a lot as well. I did Yoga,Swam,ate great food and had sex with a lot of really hot Girls.
Back to the God Thing.

I came to the conclusion that everything here came from somewhere!
But Where?
It does not really matter!
I formed a God Consciousness,sending my appreciation to the source of all that is,no matter what that source is.
Then I formed an image of the source of all that is True.
I now see the source of all that is and the source of all that is true in every person I meet and in everything I touch.
I have made peace with the entire universe!

COuld you clarify for me how believing in a God removes uncertainty from your life or makes your actions worth more than they would be in a godless world? How does "God" make this so inyour opinion?

 

My thoughts are pretty simple. I don't need to believe that there is or isn't some higher power. I see shit objectively and because of this, I know a few truths that most people either choose to ignore or pretend don't exist, or genuinely don't know.

I'm not getting into how I was raised or how I came to my outlook on life but I have never once in my life felt trapped or forced to live a lie or any of that because of religion or religious things. I didn't believe in God because I thought I would go to hell if I didn't or any of that, I believed in him because I was raised as a Catholic, in a community where almost every kid went to Church in the whole neighborhood, the same way we played in youth leagues growing up. Infact, I would say that a bunch of the kids in my Confirmation class from public school were kids I played sports with as a kid or knew in the neighborhood. Hell, that church made our community as strong as it was and as much of almost a fraternity as it was. I held onto that belief for years and by the time I started questioning it, I realized how fucking pointless and stupid labels were, and I slowly started to understand things that others delude themselves into thinking don't exist or aren't true, when they're god damn obvious, not because I read a book or any of that bullshit, because I asked questions and looked for answers and had a completely clear and open mind, free of any outside influence.

For the record, noone, I'm glad that you understand that both theists and atheists believe that there either is or isn't a God because they have to, because they can't deal with the thinking or the questions or the not knowing about something that is so much bigger than them and always will be.

My point is, just drop the fucking title and look at shit objectively and scientifically, and without emotion. Don't be another douche like ShakeZula or Incubus, or any of those other fake ass fucks. Don't have a fucking stance with a label, just don't label yourself period, and don't be into the whole "Yay science! Reality is awesome!" bullshit that the type of "atheists" who are just bouncing from one religion to another spew. Reality IS awesome, but what they see, and feel, and know, that ain't reality, that's bullshit and delusion. And you're god damn right Yay for science!, but those kids wouldn't know science if it bit them on the ass. At the end of the day, this shit doesn't fucking matter, at all. It only matters to people who need it to matter.

 

That's an interesting take on things...but there is no proof of 'lies' from either side.

However, there are more 'lies' spoken in favour of the existence of God than there are against it.

Only atheists call them such.

I have spent a lifetime as a believer

but always with a nagging doubt! I read a story when I was young about a watch that assembled itself. The point of the story was the necessity of a creator. One thing troubled me, though. If the universe couldn't exist without a creator, then the creator must be greater than the universe. If the creator was that great, where did he come from? Who created the creator? Wasn't an uncreated creator a greater paradox than an a creator-less universe.? I am finally agnostic with strong atheist tendencies.

 

God killed the dinosaurs becuase he realized how bad he *****ed up when he gave them arms that weren't in reach of their cocks...so he threw a few meteors to clear up the sheet and start fresh again, this time, creating his newest species, the human. After realizing his mistake, he quickly fixed it and and made our arms in length to reach our cocks and pleasure ourselves when we weren't praying to him. God truly is unbelievable...oh, and read the bible you bitches, it says everything you need to know in that book!

 

Don't worry. I only engage in conversations where people are willing to discuss things in a rational and logical manner. Your hostile attitude before I've even stated a position on anything pretty much guarantees that this won't be such an atmosphere. I learned long ago that it's just as pointless to argue with evangelical atheists as with evangelical Christians. They both tend to resort to childish name-calling and personal attacks when they realize they can't force the other guy to believe what they do.
